    For those voting for the fossil video, would you want me to estimate a timeline using information I can garner from dex entries, or should I base it/display it based on our real-life life history timeline?

    I imagine Tyranitar would be a predator to Arons and a rival to Agron

    • @Pokecology

      They share few overlapping territories, but yes, two big creatures like that would definitely be warring! I definitely should've brought that up.

    Aggron is my favorite Pokémon since Gen 3. Steel is my favorite type and Aggron is a big reason for that. I value attack and defense over speed and Aggron has that. He has a very wide movepool and found him very useful in every playthough he is available. While I know they are 4x weak to Fighting or Ground my biggest issue was water types. You could usually hit Fight and Ground for without resistance but water resist Steel.

    • @Pokecology

      I'm on the fence about Mega Pokemon. Some seem naturally occurring, but others seem to only exist due to Mega stones. I'll definitely start talking about them, though, especially if the fossil video ends up winning the polls.

    Nice video! The Aron line's an old favorite of mine, so seeing it getting some extra attention brought a smile to my face.
    I'm curious how type match-ups relate to predation. I could see the rock type being an adaptation against predatory flyibg types, but that's also a problem if there are too many fighting types around, who could see Aron as a potential prey. I had also imagined the line being related to tough-skinned, but mammaloid, Pokémon such as the Nidoran and Rhyhorn lines, but maybe the similarities are due to convergent evolution.
    As for the vote, here's one towards the fossil mons.

    • @Pokecology
      @Pokecology  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nidoran's lines are based on porcupines, and their legs (to me; the art is unclear. It looks like it's in a battle stance while Lairon seems relaxed) seem to be directly under the body rather than to the side, which is a major difference, believe it or not, between reptiles and mammals.

    Have you ever heard of the theory that Charizard is able to breathe fire naturally as a result of methane in its body? In this theory, the reason that its tail has a fire is so that it burns off the methane so that its toxicity doesn't kill it. Hence the whole deal with Charizard dying when the flame goes out, it would die due to being unable to regulate the methane. Your whole explanation of Aggron learning flamethrower and having an insanely hot organ for creating steel reminded me of that theory.

    Just found your channel and congrats on all the views my kid and I will be giving you over the next forever. Seriously, this is the well produced and brilliantly educational kind of pokemon content I've been looking for! Don't get me wrong, N0rtist and his STEAM take on pokemon is wonderful, but I've been searching for a kid friendly, science based, speculative biology series like yours for so long. We can't wait to watch your channel grow like we did with N0rtist ❤🎉

    I wonder if they digest iron with a strong acid in their gut that extracts minerals that makes their skin hard and armor like, no fire glands required.

    • @Pokecology
      @Pokecology  ปีที่แล้ว

      It specifies steel, not iron, so a fire would be needed.

    In terms of phylogeny i believe aggron to be a basal ceratopsian that convergently evolved long horns and armor, but stayed bipedal

    The ability of pokemon to so masterfully control energy likely helps with steel production. They likely use chemical means to arrange the molecules and produce naturally growing steel so a furnace isn't strictly necessary.
    With the habitat restoration Aggron does it likely has a bit to do with how pokemon like to cooperate and hang out when food isn't a factor or when they aren't out hunting. This would make some form of communal living more likely for them.
    As for how humans got anywhere, there is a reason why they are master sealers and have such a close bond with pokemon. Development of those areas are needed for civilization to even start.
