I love how in Scarlet and Violet, Dragonite will fly around but Garchomp will fly right towards you if it spots you. Which means it WILL target humans.

If you were spotted by a Garchomp in the wild, it's already too late. Chances are it's been following you for hours, days, or even mere seconds. Salamemce and Hydreigon will attack out of blind rage, with a Garchomp it's 100% premeditated.

The mental image of Gibles huddling together for warmth is so fucking cute i cant. Theyre literally round dinosaur puppies. Aggressive. But cute.

give this man a laboratory, a lab coat and a tree name because we've got a true professor!
also what about the link between the Garchomp line and the Sharpedo line ? did their ancestor split into 2 groups, one on sea and one on land ?

My thought on Gabite’s hoarding behavior is that when it once lived in the tropics, it was attracted to the flashing of fish scales like real-life Tuna. It loses this behavior once it gains the ability to fly, where it then pursues prey in flight.

I consider Garchomp to be the most powerful pokemon (excluding legendaries and mythicals) of all. Here are some of the things that make it so crazy and also so dangerous:
    1. It never gives up on hunting it's prey, ever.
    2. It doesn't just run so fast that it's wings can cut down trees, it actually runs so fast that it's wings generate winds powerful enough to cut them for it.
    3. It is stated to be able to move just as fast underground as it can on the surface.
    4. It can sense it's prey from far distances, before it or it's prey have even seen eachother.
    5. It can fly at supersonic speeds. It is a competent enough flier that it can outmaneuver multiple pokemon specifically adapted for flight at a time, and it can hold it's own in midair battles with Salamence, a pokemon that wanted to fly so badly that it literally willed it's wings into existence.
    6. Given it's many shark inspirations and features, it would likely be able to hunt underwater.
    7. It can comfortably withstand volcanic temperatures.
    8. It has the abilities Sand Veil and Rough Skin, so it's possibly that it changes the colour and shape of it's scales to conceal itself in sandstorms, or sharpen them for fighting and flying.
    9. It is seen to be quite intelligent through Cynthia's Garchomp in the games and anime.
    10. It will not hesitate to attack humans, though it will not attack on sight as long as it is left alone.
    11. It has no "weak phase" of it's maturity, unlike some other psuedo-legendaries.
If you are a pokemon and a Garchomp wants you dead, you cannot do anything about it. It will never give up until it kills you. You can't outrun it. You can't escape it by digging. You can't hide from it. You can't fly out of it's reach. You can't be safe from it underwater. You can't use extreme environments or weathers against it. You can't fight it without hurting yourself. You can't confuse or outsmart it. You can't flee from it into a human settlement. Even if you were to try to kill a Garchomp before it grew up you might STILL have some trouble against it's prevolutions. To be honest Garchomp's only weakness is that it can't stay outside it's den for too long without it's body being chilled, though it is stated that it can easily go hunt and bring back it's kill before this happens.

This is honestly an interesting case in Pokemons logic and biology.
Garchomp is very based around the concept of landsharks, even it's pre evolved forms talk about how they are seen around caves and you can even find them in deserts.
But then Garchomp pokedex shows up and say "OH BTW I CAN FLY AT MACH SPEED" i mean cool but it doesn't scream it in it's design, you could say it is a glider but it has strong legs that create drag and the "wings" are so short. And then you find them in cold climats in Hisui? Like, isn't garchomp like 4 times weak to ice? Like it should be afraid if not staying away from the cold, the pokedexes seem try telling diferent stories of pokemon at once but they all slammed in Garchomp without real reason. But it is cartoon logic so it really doesn't matter.
If they stucked to it's more land shark part It would be logical and cool, still love this dragon haha
    Loved your vid btw

Thanks! It's noticeable that, the more popular a Pokemon is designed to be (if that makes sense), the less sensible their biology is.

The only pokemon that even likely has a chance of predating on garchomp are likely not to interact with it at all or are extremely rare due to evolution limitations. The only pokemon i see able to fight garchomp for territory are other pseudolegendary pokemon, mamoswine, which only evoves with a move it doesn't naturally learn, and strong attacking fast ice types...... which is limited to basically Weaville and maybe cryognal, neither of which share common territory with garchomp as far as i can tell.

It's so funny how much these change during development.
I wonder if the size difference between Gabite and Garchomp allows for the bigger spike to stop growing as the mon (and the other spike) does, thus looking like it shrinks but technically maintaining its size.
Also, what the hell it up with the gender difference, here. What do the Gaboys do differently from the Girlbites to warrant this silly nonsense. My best idea is that male-specific disputes cause them to get into scraps more often, and the back fin is very prone to injuries, which the model/sprite averages to that single cut. Which, I guess could happen if daughters are allowed to stay with a parent, while sons are sent away once they get old enough, like with elephants.
Or alternatively, the former stay in sibling groups, while the latter seek out other Gabite populations to avoid inbreeding, and generally get injured by other mons on the way there. I think I will make that last one my headcanon.

Wow there was a lot of interesting things about the Garchomp line (more than I thought XD).
Are there any real-life examples of animals changing from burrowing/cave dwelling early life to taking to the skies in adulthood?

    • @Pokecology
      @Pokecology  ปีที่แล้ว

There are insects that do this, and you could probably argue that bats have this behavior to an extent, but overall no. Caves aren't very involved in most species' life cycles, and burrowing typically conflicts with wing construction, which is why insects would be more fit to do this (due to metamorphosis).

One little tip I would give is to slow your speech down a bit, as your voiceover sounds more like a shorts VO than a regular VO. Increase the size of pauses between sentences, and slow down your speech to around 85% of its current speed.
I loved the content and scientific analysis, and can see you going pretty far as a channel. Kudos!

    • @Pokecology
      @Pokecology  ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks! Is it the talking that's fast, or is it just the pauses between sentences? For comparison, all the videos before the fossil one were exclusively me editing the audio. However, as of the fossil one, my video editor had shortened pauses because he says it flows better.

@@Pokecology A bit of both. I had a listen to the first 30 seconds of the Weavile video, and I love the VO. I think it's perfect. Whereas the Garchomp VO sounds a bit like you're rushing to get all your words out in as little time as possible.
