Harry blowing up Aunt Marge actually has a really sneaky explanation. In the fifth book, during O.W.L.s, Harry is tasked with casting the silencing charm on a toad, and instead of being silenced it swells up like a balloon, exactly the way Marge does. He was subconsciously trying to use Silencio on her, and miscast it. I can't remember if it's in the book or not, but in the movie he yells "Shut up!", which is exactly what he was trying to make her do.
Nice catch. Don't think the brothers caught that
My favorite head cannon is that you don’t have to stick your face in the pensive and dumbledoor always gets a chuckle outta seeing Harry go face first lol
@@codyhatton4431I can definitely believe that, especially since Dumbledore just uses his wand to put memories in. Surely there's an easy way which includes wands to view them as well.
I love that 😂
I feel like the intro not being ‘join us as we release the prisoner of Azkaban’ was a major missed opportunity
fr man
Pls do this for the next intro you guys record
@@takumi2023will do
Don’t believe Vernon broke anything in his new car. V & HP are talking in the hallway. After V states he might sign the school form, it reads “He wheeled around, pulled open the front door, and slammed it so hard… .” Sure seems to me V broke a little pane in the front door of the house on his way out to the car.
@@kimgrodAgreed wasn't glass from the car it was the front door, funny I never thought it could be interpreted any other way.
Hey brother! Just wanted to also mention when Uncle Vernon says "no need to tell me he's up to no good" is a nice little foreshadowing for him being one of the marauders. I solemnly swear I am up to no good.
thats quite an observation…
i totally agree that petunia does not like aunt marge. petunia doesnt hate lily, she just resents her
Marge inflats because of an improperly cast Silencing Charm. In a later book when they're practicing silencing charms the frog swells the same way as Marge
That combined with the "work from home" bit made me think; imagine trying to cast a silencing charm on AOL.
When I found out about the taboo on Voldemort’s name, I would simply gather every auror and Order member in a forest, hidden in the trees, and say the name. When the death eaters or snatchers showed up, we’d ambush them and stun them.
They could even coordinate to say the name in two or more different places at the same time to split them up. Or what if they spread themselves out all over the UK and said the name one after the other, five or ten seconds apart? Would they have to keep going to different places, in rapid succession? If lots of people are calling the name nearly simultaneously, which one(s) do you pay attention to?
Bloody brilliant!
I can’t believe the top of my head is in frame for like 90% of this 💀
😂
“I’m … on… tv!”Mike Wazouski (sp???)
You are now a griffin door legend
It's okay you aren't the only one 😂😂😂
Well, you look fabulous. Hopefully we get another cameo in a future episode. 😊
"The morning after the night before" may be the greatest thing you've ever said
I like imagining, in GoF, Harry stepping out from the gravestone to face Voldy, and inflates Voldy like Marge.... LOL 🤣
Harry's "I'm fed up with this" energy in this chapter is AMAZING.
Wouldnt Harry know that Voldemort was raised in an orphanage, Riddle mentions it in the diary memory, and he learns that Riddle is Voldemort
Exactly
Harry is not very.... observant I'll say. There is a lot he should know or have looked up once he learned his name
Back I the 90s you would keep broken things like tvs so that when your new one broke you could get repair parts for free
As someone who collects 90s electronics now, and regularly has to repair them. I can't imagine diagnosing and fixing some of their issues without vast forums that have decades of collated knowledge. I guess you just had to really know yout s**t
@@Jamman88888 you could go the knowing your stuff way, my dad always just went to the TV repair store and talked his problem out with his buddy who worked there then hoped he had the part they decided they needed in the old one
I actually really loved the little bits of audience participation in this episode
This morning at my church, some lady was going on and on about the importance of giving kids "whoopings" and about how important it is to keep hitting your kids no matter how old they get. She reminded me of Aunt Marge. I was so happy when I got home and remembered that this week's episode was all about Aunt Marge! I've only listened to the first few minutes, but y'all's positive energy is an excellent mental palate cleanser.
What a horrible parenting take. "Abuse is good, actually." So horrible.
A good What if would be if harry hadn't lost control on marge, it'd be interesting to see how things play out, whether Sirius shows up or not, and how things may play out later
"This is the morning after the night before"
Ohhhhh,I see! Yeah,that really explains a lot
I'll eat my words. The audio quality was much better then i expected of a live show.
I have been so worried for the quality ngl. Been other shows I enjoyed that turned to trash live
And I can't get my audio remotely this good no matter how hard I try.
Hopefully they can fix the audio on first live episode.
i feel like the real tip off in the muggle news report on sirius is when uncle vernon goes "they didnt even tell us where he escaped from"
and thats when, if you've got a keen enough eye, you'd go... yk that's pretty suspicious. maybe he's a wizard
Jay needs a ALDO advertising endorsement 😂
True. His name was also mentioned in chapter 1 of sorcerers stone. When Hagrid tells Dumbledore and McGonagall that he borrowed the flying motorcycle from Sirius.
So I always assumed Vernon meant the city he escaped from, like if he escaped from a prison near London, that would be bad since they lived near London. But if he escaped from somewhere in Scotland he’d be rather far away. Never really thought that it automatically meant wizard 😅
@@Halfbloodprincesss8 i mean usually prisons are just named after the area they're located in. like "so and so county prison". so i think its kind of one and the same. if they didnt say the prison name then they didn't say the city/county the prison was in.
When McGonagall was watching the Dursleys all day before Harry was dropped off, she reported to Dumbledore that they are "among the worst sort of muggles imaginable." And given her family history and her personal beliefs, I know she wouldn't use that label lightly. So I think that Harry or no Harry, Vernon and Petunia absolutely would've spoiled Dudley beyond reason and been generally insufferable people.
Absolutely agree
In my opinion he would have been spoilt, but not to the degree he was in the books. Maybe like movie vibes spoilt instead of the comical levels in the books
I definately agree that he would have been spoiled, he was already spoiled as a baby before we introduced Harry in the first chapter of sorcerer's! Good catch!

I hope the people present had fun, I usually use this to fall asleep or listen to high quality commentary and the laughing of the crowd etc drive me a little bit mad :p
I'll be back in a few weeks when you're back 👋
I think Harry's bedroom is the Dursley's Room of Requirement
I had a thought the other day: I don't think Voldemort intended the diary to be able to come to life. He never planned on dying, so why would he have a horcrux resurrect his 16 year-old self? So while Lucius gets criticized for not knowing the diary has part of Voldemort's soul, I don't think even Voldemort knew the diary would be able to come to corporeal form.
Obviously Voldemort doesn’t intend to die, though the whole purpose of a Horcrux is to act as a resurrection if death occurs.
However I do agree that Voldemort put more power into the diary than he intended, it was acting upon its own judgment that Voldemort Prime had failed.
It was that moment Aunt Marge knew she messed up
Harry did know Voldemort grew up in an orphanage by this chapter. Tom Riddle's diary told him.
These are not so good sleep aid when I can hear the audiance but thankfully this is just few chapter tour 💤💤💤
One thing that I found interesting was Petunia’s reaction where she quickly looks out the window. Harry thought it was because she would want to be the person to turn him in. But more likely, Petunia knew who Sirius Black is and was honestly worried that he would come to finish off Harry. I it a tiny bit of redemption for her, as to me she seems at least a little worried for Harry.
I dont know if she knows black. Given that Lily and James got together during the height of the voldemort's reign, I can't imagine they would invite many people to the wedding. But that's before Harry's prophecy, so maybe they weren't in danger yet. But they have defied voldemort 3 times at least.
@@takumi2023I doubt there was much of a wedding to be honest. We know from Arthur and Molly that a lot of young wizarding couples eloped during the first war. And considering how young Lily and James were when they got married and had Harry, I have to imagine they likely did the same.
@@takumi2023 Petunia didn’t go to the wedding but I wouldn’t be surprised if she knew who he was. She probably didn’t know that he was their friend and Harry’s godfather but there is a good chance she knew he “killed” James and Lily. Truthfully, I think Petunia knows far more than she puts on.
The text just makes it seem like she recognizes the name. Vernon barked “lunatic could be coming up the street right now!” Aunt Petunia… whipped around and peered intently out of the kitchen window.
I immediately picked up on that line. It’s like something clicked in her mind when Vernon said that. Like she realized that yes, Sirius could very well be coming up the street because he is the one who killed Lily and James.
@@jamesdrylie5584 i don't think she was told that Sirius killed Lily and James when it was Voldemort who killed them. The nuance of Sirius killing Lily and James is so deep in magic i wouldn't expect anyone to explain it to her. Her only connection to the magical world at the time was Lily.
i can accept she knows Sirius, but if she does, she has to know that Sirius is Harry's godfather. I'm assuming Lily would explain it to her at the time when they were introduced unless Lily and Petunia met Sirius before they had Harry.
Rather could Petunia remember the story of Sirius(Peter) blowing up an alley eleven years ago? But i thought that story was covered up as a gas explosion or something. (muggle saw the event so they'd have a hard time).
maybe Petunia talk with Lily about school during summer break and Lily happens to mention Sirius' name with James
every sunday i listen while im opening the store. its a great way to start the day and puts me in a great mood! thank you brothers for making my sundays awesome ❤
For me, in Japan, it’s every Monday morning, so I listen while preparing my classroom (English teacher) before my kiddos come through 😊
I too have always read it as if it's Aunt Marge who gives Dudley the money, as he is holding the money when they are done hugging, but two things could be said to that. For one it's probably not as if Aunt Marge views it as buying hugs, it's probably just that she likes doting on her nephew and giving him money and Dudley, despite what Harry might think about him, is smart enough to realize she might take offense and not give him any money if he complains or avoid her. Second thing it that it might not be Marge, but actually Vernon or Petunia that slips him the money.
I’ve always read it as Vernon or petunia slipping him money, but I really like your interpretation
I think Marge would absolutely spoil Dudley as well, considering that they just mentioned all the way she did already. The way I read it, Petunia already gave Dudley the £20 just before she arrived and that's why he put up with the hugs.
I always read it as Vernon slipping him the money
See I had grandparents that lived far enough away that I only saw them once or twice a year - and they’d always give me money when they said goodbye. I even went through a phase where I felt really guilty about this and tried to give it back, but it was honestly my main source of income as a kid. So I absolutely read it as Aunt Marge gives him money when she comes to visit, and he is calculatingly welcoming because he wants her to keep doing so.
I've always read it as he stole the money from her wallet or something
Harry found out tom grew up in an orphanage in book 2 in the flash back.
Don't forget what Sirius tells them in the cave the next year: It was Barty Crouch Sr. who sent him to Azkaban without a trial. He makes that specific point as an example of Barty being as merciless as the Death Eaters.
5:20 I like how the audience can just answer immediately whenever there is something you do not remember. Now you have not 2, but 100 people there who know every detail!
Encore!
OK. It can wait 'til chapter 3. Thought the audience deserved a round of applause as well.
Great stuff everyone.
Maybe the Dursleys are hoarding all the broken stuff because as soon as Harry comes of age they think they can force him to “earn his keep” and magically repair all of the broken things they have been saving over the years (before kicking him out of the house)
Also Dudley’s Second Bedroom (the room Harry gets moved into in Chamber of Secrets) is full of broken things, and Harry is broken too, so it’s a metaphor as well.
Marge epitomises the school motto in this chapter. My Latin isn't great so I'm not going to attempt to write the motto but it translates to "never tickle a sleeping dragon." Marge has been warned that Harry is a dangerous and irredeemable criminal, then has it confirmed that he apparently doesn't care about being punished, and her response is to keep taunting Harry. So she doesn't know the full extent of Harry's powers but she might fear Harry would imitate Aunt Petunia and slam her face with a skillet.
Uncle Vernon does at least show some awareness of the danger, living up to Dumbledore's lesson that oppressors fear their victims. He realises, rather too late, that the phrase he fears above all else from Harry is "That's it, fuck Hogsmeade..." Followed by everything Harry has been aching to say.
Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus Draco
Gonna throw this out here, was fully expecting to dislike this one. I thought the audience would be annoying, and I was bummed out for the shorter episode. I'm 30 minutes in and this is by far my favorite to date! Come to Atlanta!
naw, SCB audience is legit one of the best communities on TH-cam
It was a different vibe, but not necessarily a bad vibe
I’m really enjoying the energy the audience brings
You might consider if there is some way the audience participation could be integrated: maybe someone with a wandering microphone. They had really good input and were super engaged, so it would be nice to hear them. It could get chaotic, but you guys would get it figured out.
Fantastic job and incredibly quality for being a live show. You both were super on point, did not show your nerves at all, and the audience was awesome. Not overly prominent but added to the digital show.
I always took Marge saying it just happened the other day to be her lying for whatever reason 😂
7:28 That cut right as the person was walking by was SMOOTH
The Ministry clearly noticed Harry's magic, since they punctured Marge and modified her memory. The instant owl expelling him in Order of the Phoenix shows that the Ministry at that time was actively waiting to catch any inevitable blip of magic to further their anti-Harry agenda. I don't think that kind of instant reaction has any relation to "typical" Ministry procedure.
Now I'm picturing the former Judas Priest (and current KK's Priest) vocalist Ripper Owens stalking around a tree all night while Harry is stuck up there. Every time Harry tries to climb down, he gets a loud belt of "Living After Midnight."
This made me laugh so hard. I think I woke up my cat. He’s not very happy with me now lol
Vernon pays Dudley not Marge he slips him 20 pounds behind marge as Dudley’s hugging her
Head cannon if I’m wrong I’ve been reading it that way since they came out 😂
"it's just the morning after of the night before" xD sums up why I'm a J fan.
Hey Brother!!! Been watching from the beginning and TTGD has become an essential part of my Sunday evening routine. I was telling my wife about the podcast, and she loved it. We have two young kids - boy 3 years and girl 1 year. She asks - at what age could we introduce them both to HP with a weekly readalong like you guys did with your dad?
Wow, this audience ep felt amazing!! Besides the amaziness that always is. Thank you 💘💖💫
Thank you so much for this. I had a blast!
Hey brothers!
In a lucky coincidence - I started my reread just in time for this awesome breakdown!
I've always loved your TH-cam channel and am constantly amazed at your ability to come up with theories and connect the most obscure dots!
More of an insight than question:
I now realize how much the Weasley family are integral to the story. I now feel how much we're being emotionally drawn and connected to them, and how much this will affect Harry.
Thanks for being awesome you guys!
I love watching this podcast while eating avocados, love you guys!
Really like the idea that Col Fubster is magical.😅
Maybe he just told Marge he drowned the puppy, maybe he protected the puppy.
Hey Brother!! Happy Fathers’ Day, & I really hope the live shows bring validation to you guys of all the hard work you and the team have been putting in
Hey Brorhers! It was a real treat to aee you with an audience and hear them laugh when I do. It was lots of fun. Great job!
With the underage magic thing, I've always thought that either a) the ministry knew but due to Harry leaving and Sirius being at large they brushed it off as a special case cuz Harry's life was at risk (in the movie Fudge does say that "they don't send people to Azkaban for blowing up their aunts" so there they immediately knew but Harry being safe from Sirius was more important); or b) it being unintentional magic makes the difference, like if Harry used his wand and cast actual spells he would get in trouble but since it was totally accidental it would be brushed off as some magical anomaly/accident (Dobby did his magic intentionally so that would count too)
I feel like Aunt Marge had parallels to Sirius' mother, and then so does Harry walking out and Sirius running away, so they kinda mirror eachother, just as Sirius is near the house....
Thought Lucious was getting rid of suspicious items from his house/posession. Don’t think he or any of the Deatheaters know about the horcruxes.
Saw this live in new york last week. Great show despite not a great chapter
I was hoping they would do a q&a on the live shows
My biggest gripe is that Vernon didn’t just lie and say that he didn’t know James’ profession because it never came up in conversation. Or just come up with something convincing that Marge wouldn’t find fault with
Vernon was petty with James. They met only once, and James made mild fun of him, and Vernon took it to heart for life.
@@robertgronewold3326If it was anything like how he made fun of Snape, I can understand.
Broken TVs were furniture first TV second. The "new" TV would be placed on top of the old tv when you got a new tv.
I hope you'll be able to upload the first live episode from the previous week, since it's nice seeing the audience's reaction to certain things.
I have a question. What would have happened if Aunt Petunia had been loving and cared for Harry as her own but warned him of the danger that magic poses, that harry's parents died because of it? Would harry want to go to Hogwarts? would he repress his magic? obscurus Potter?
this is one of my favorite chapters in the whole series, just very full of good snippets.
Great episode I really enjoyed the live crowd atmosphere. Some people try this sort of stuff and it doesn’t always work but you guys did it really well. The crowd was great polite and not over the top. Can’t believe you guys are already in prisoner of Azkaban this time has gone so quick
Aunt Marge is the reason why Harry disliked Death Eaters. Was this part of Dumbledore’s big plan?
Omg I love this! Please come to FL!
Prisoner was the first book I read before the movies took off and before I had even heard of any of it. ❤
7:46 waves as the lady bouncing up and down in the front lol.
My realization: Vernon says Sirius is “no good” and to unlock the Map (that Sirius helped create) by swearing that you are “up to no good “
Wow great job doing it live.
Harry actually does know Voldemort was raised in an orphanage, he heard Riddle talk to Dippet about it in the Diary.
Love the jackets, bros! 🤩
Wish I could have been there! Great performance! 🎉🎉🎉
I don't think it's the car breaks, I think it's the front Door. Harry don't catch Vernon at the car, he catches him at the front door, and when Vernon ultimately leaves he slams the front door and makes one of those windows fall out.
That aside, does anyone else remember they just had a new car in Book 1? When Mrs. Figg can't take Harry for Dudley's birthday Petunia suggests taking Harry to the Zoo and leaving him in the car, and Vernon says the car is new and he's not letting Harry sit alone in it. I know some people are obsessed with upgrading their cars all the time, but really, hardly 2 years? One a one person income?
Muriel is on Petunia-level gossip love; Petunia keeps up w/ the progress of a celebrity couple's relationship (if I'm remembering correctly...don't have the book at hand) via gossip magazines tho' she doesn't admit it, and Muriel sooooo looks forward to reading Rita Skeeter's book about Dumbledore.
Had a thought while rereading philosophers stone. In chapter 9 Nevile falls off him broom which then drifts off into the forbidden forest. What if in the idea where Dobby doesn't intervene in chamber, the broom finds Harry and Ron in the forest to escape the spiders?!! I know this if from the book before but when an idea comes, it comes. Could support a what if Dobby didn't intervene theory
Happy Father’s Day guys!
Goin to paste same message, until Carlin brothers take a note of this: One thing that I just thought when reading Prisoner to my kids. At the end with timerturner stuff, Harry and Hermione are hiding in the closet very close to earlier trio, so why on earth does Lupin not see extra Harry and Hermione on Marauders map? I think no video ever by anybody has addressed that issue! Please Supercarlinbrothers take this up!
*Sirius black accused of killing 12 muggles and Peter pettigrew* Ministry of Magic: meh. Life time in Azkaban
*newt and Tina accused of breaking statute of secrecy via obscurious* MACUSA: DEATH TO BOTH OF YOU
I mean, yeah, it was grindelwald posing as graves, but I feel like something like an execution would need to be approved by madame President right? Even if she did approve it, why would in this case it be capital punishment whereas with the ministry is a lifetime internment. Just different wizarding laws in different countries?
(I could also be missing some details. It’s been a minute since I watched the first fantastic beasts movie)
They don't even bother with a trial or defense lawyers or any rights of the accused whatsoever. Straight from accusation to execution.
That chapter art is sooooo spot on
Just realized that the special hotline set up for Sirius probably so wizards like kingsley shacklebolt can answer. People who both wizards and muggles recognize/ trust, and are integrated in both worlds, and was probably at request of fudge via the muggle prime minister. If this is implied or said later in the books, lemme know what chapters! I’m on my first re read in several years and im only at chamber
Whe they finish all the books i would love to buy one of the books they have made notes in
Maybe the reason why Ripper was so deadset on getting Harry even after he runs up the tree is because Ripper could sense that Harry was Magical since Dogs have a way of sensing when something is off with someone.
Reading this chapter to my kids, they called Marge worse than Voldemort and ON THE SAME LEVEL AS DRACO 😂 it was interesting to me that at this point, Aunt Marge and Draco are the same level of evil.👀
Nah, Marge is worse. Draco hasn't actually killed anyone. Meanwhile, Marge had that poor puppy drowned. :(
Not sure how they came to the conclusion that they're both worse than Voldemort, though.
Love how Ben is shooting Gary Oldman's Sirius Black vibe with his blazer/jacket. Also the pins are cool, snake(I think) and sword.
Happy father's day u guys
St Brutus's confirms nature vs. nurture, which is why it's better. Aunt Marge says as much later in the chapter.
In HBP, Dumbledore asks Harry if he feels sorry for Voldemort after finding out about his childhood.
I would love to see the whole audio release. With crowd interaction before and after.
You’ve theorized, Hedwig is HP’s FIRST birthday gift ever. We know HP just received three gifts from his friends. When did he receive Uncle V’s nasty socks as a bday gift? Or, did he receive the nasty socks before Hedwig making these, perhaps, his actual first bday gift?
I remember he got a hanger as a birthday gift on his birthday before his 11th birthday
I forgot about the hanger.
Hey Brothers. Happy Father's day Ben and J
A Very Good Video 👍🏻
2 things, thing 1: I assume Harry just doesn't unpack his things when he gets back to Privet drive so getting his things together would be quick, and 2: I think later in the book when Harry is in Diagon Alley I assume they have aurors patrolling there.
When Dumbledore picks him up, when the aurors pick him up, and when the Weasleys pick him up, it takes a little while for him to round up his things.
But it would mak more sense of there wad little for him to unpack. There isn't much he would need during the summer. Maybe the books for homework.
He did have the pillowcase with school stuff hidden in the floorboard. I think he retrieved that and Hedwig’s cage first and then got his trunk and Nimbus from the cupboard and just stuffed the pillowcase into his trunk.
Hey Brother! you guys are just awesome.
I was there. I had so much fun!!!
love the survivor reference i was thinking the same thing 😭
Yay I was there!
Obvious to me … we know it’s not Marge’s first visit with Ripper, Marge pampers the dog, based on that little info, V & P know Marge will want more than water for Ripper.
I dont know if it is cursed or hilarious that this is a live podcast XD
Love the mention of a Survivor legend!
I feel like Harry trying to distract himself with the handbook is setup for the Patronus spell and him needing a happy memory
I'm not the biggest fan of live studio audience recording (mostly due to the inevitable audio bleed from said audience) that said great production on this one! Audience noise wasn't over bearing and I enjoyed the talk back between. All around great live show recording and great episode
It took me till the episode AFTER musical statues to realize they were playing musical statues in the bluey intro
I wonder if the avoidance of the death penalty in the wizarding world is partially because there are so few wizards to start with that they are against killing wizards even when they commit horrible crimes. Kind of like would you put down an animal from an endangered species even though it is violent and attacking anything near it. The wizards aren't endangered, but there are significantly less of them compared to muggles.
Death penalty just does not exist in liberal countries normally. Britain is not an exception.
Wizards are just really, really bad at justice administration. As well as criminal detection.
