I always thought the reason why Sirius Black laughed at the scene was because he realized that Peter was a true rat. That he ratted out his friends and ran out as a rat. And realized that he made the mistake by trusting a guy that could turn into a rat.

Yeah, I always thought it was hysterical laughter. Like, all his emotions catching up with him at once as his drive for revenge fails and everything hits him: his best friend (and his best friend's wife) is dead, Peter escaped, and he (Sirius) is about to be blamed for it thus leaving their final friend (Lupin) all alone in the world.

I read the books for the first time not so long ago (after being a huge fan of the movies for a long time) and I found that laughing rly wierd and wondered if it will ever get explained. Then in the same book the students learn about the tickling / laughing jinx ‘Rictumsempra’ and I was 100% sure that it will be later revealed that this is what happened to Sirius... and it never did.

What 13-yr-old wouldn't love 3 weeks of mostly independent living without even having to worry about where you'll sleep and get food? As an adult I love that whole chapter because I do think that at that age, I would have been like Harry: I would have avoided doing anything wrong and enjoyed the time of independence. I would feel like I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. I'd know that I did have adults around if something happened and I did need adult help, but I'd be really wanting to avoid needing their help for anything beyond the room and board that I'm already getting anyways. It would be like a safe test - a step toward full independence. Note, by the way, that Harry doesn't just have fun. He does his homework, gets some money out from Gringot's and gets his school supplies. That might seem trivial to an adult, but to a kid?

    @stuartl7761 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

34:10 One reason Dumbledore might be against it is that although alerted muggles might report Black and stay clear of him, it will likely lead to muggle law enforcement trying to take him down, which might not end well given he's famous for publicly killing muggles. So Dumbledore's probably thinking that Black is probably more concerned with avoiding the ministry, killing harry, and maybe helping voldy are higher priorities for black than outing himself by attacking muggles, and that extra detection isn't worth putting more muggle lives at risk.

When he tells Harry the story of what really happened at the end of the book, Sirius says that Peter beat him in their duel. Filling the lines, Peter used Rictumsempra, blew up the street, and disappeared as a rat, so Sirius was left there with the dead bodies, laughing uncontrollably, as the spell does

So, a bit of a break, certainly, but I think it's the realizations.

is it ever said how Sirius knows where the Dursleys live as he's been in prison the whole time that Harry has lived there and wouldn't know their address.
also unlike America UK streets, house numbers are restarted for every new road, for example my road there is only 18 houses ( 9 houses each side) the next road over only has 6 houses 3 either side. So Privet Drive is one road with X amount of houses, then Magnolia road is connected to magnolia crescent (which would be an off shoot road) and on Magnolia Crescent there is an alley that connects to Wisteria Walk. So I hope that helps.

Sirius Black's animagus dog breed is never specified but there are various theories among the fans. My personal opinion is that Padfoot is a Newfoundland dog. Irish Wolfhounds may be big but have you ever seen a Newfoundland dog? They are HUGE! And like you've said, "when in doubt, go by the books, not the movies." Remember, Padfoot was strong enough to drag a fourteen-year-old Ron Weasley like a ragdoll and could stand on his hind legs and easily put them on a fifteen-year-old Harry's shoulders. This dog is huge and could considered "bear-like" and they are very good swimmer and let's not forget, a malnourished and skeleton-like Sirius Black who even as Padfoot was so thin that he could slip through the Azkaban bars could swim back to the mainland from Azkaban which is said to be on a remote island in the middle of the North Sea. Also, Sirius's manner as a dog can match up to the temperament of a Newfoundland dog (more so in the Marauders days when he was less broken): sweet-tempered, gentle, and trainable. Newfoundland dogs' personalities are described as docile, watchful, trustworthy, and tolerant of children. They are also very protective and know to put themselves between their family and a stranger; they're more likely to watch and protect than to bark and they're also known to be an intelligent breed and all of this could match up to Sirius' personality.

They don't know the British system counts the houses in each road separately because (I think) the American system counts houses per neighbourhood and the adjacent numbers can be on different roads. They think Harry is walking through roads with barely any houses on them because he only gone from number 4 to 2, without realising he's passed a load of houses and the number has reset each time he turns a corner.

Sirius told James he would be safer with Peter as secret keeper and James is dead and Sirius knows he is now going to Azkaban for not only killing James and Lily but also the 12 muggles he just watched him kill. Meanwhile having been one who helped him learn to become an animagus the skill that allowed Peter to make a clean break. Plus the fact that like most groups of popular kid's that allow the mousy shy kid to hang around because he's doing no harm then eventually he became part of them against all the odds. I mean there is a certain irony in it being that kid who caused all the trouble that you are about to pay for.

whom the trace would have been active)?
Unrelated - if the Knight Bus can transcend space & time - is it possible that Young Minerva McGonagall took it to her job interview at Hogwarts and arrived 20 years too early? That might help to explain her appearance in Fantastic Beasts.

I figure the "jumping out of the way" is a description of someone who witnessed the travel from inside the bus and doesn't understand what they are witnessing. In the movie you see it stretching from outside (though they do squish inside for comedic effect). Both view points are correct if the bus travels by warping space. In effect it would squish space in front, cross it, then expand to the rear of the bus.

    1) Stan's years:
A few possibilities, first that I think is most likely is that Stan is actually in his early twenties, but actually look younger so Harry has an impression that Stan is just barely older than Harry. Second Stan bailed out to work his dream job at conducting for Knight Bus so he failed to attend school at the same time as Harry. And third one which I think is least likely is that he didn't attend Hogwarts.
    2) Sirius laughing:
I always thought there are several factors, one, he did lose his mind at the moment, sort of a mental breakdown if you will. Two, he just witnessed Peter preform an explosion that killed 12 muggles and himself, I assumed he laughed at irony of Peter accidentaly killing himself.
    3) Sirius being one of the most infamous inmates:
Maybe general public didn't know about Sirius being Harry's Godfather, but they probably know he was a 'traitor' and I guess the way he seemingly killed all those muggles factored in. If Peter preformed an exploding curse I would assume there were body parts and inner organs all over the street, so it looked particulary vicious and evil.

You keep bringing up the incident with Dobby levitating the pudding, but I haven’t seen anyone bring up the possibility that Dobby did some elf magic shenanigans to specifically raise red flags on Harry. It’s possible that the tracker for underage magic isn’t as sensitive as we think, it’s just that Dobby deliberately set it off the first time and Fudge was looking for any excuse to expel/discredit Harry when it came to the dementors in book 5.

Hey brothers! I'm loving listening to these! I always listen to them at work the day after they drop. I had a random thought to share with you that I couldn't a few days ago and just remembered to now.
So... Was Dumbledore BLACKMAILING Petunia into keeping Harry? As in, if she doesn't keep him there perhaps he'll spill the beans on her jealousy, that she herself wrote to him begging for a spot at Hogwarts? Was the howler in Order of the Phoenix a reminder of that? She changed her tune and put her foot down about Harry staying pretty quickly. (And Vernon honored his wife's wishes which, as much of a jerk as he is, at least he loves and respects his wife).
I can't see D'dore sinking to blackmail like that, but it was a fun thought to have anyway. What do you guys think?

It's the same copy my family purchased when I was a kid when it was first released in our area. I alway believed Canada got the same copies as the UK because we always had Philosopher copies unlike the Sorcerer copies in the US. Maybe it's because we're part of the commonwealth. It's interesting that they make these little adjustments with different prints and editions. I wonder why they felt some of those things needed to be different from the original.

Okay they brought it up in the last video too. Regarding the lack of dementors in places like Diagon Alley and hogsmeade, I've always considered this to be intentional.
Hogwarts legacy showcases this pretty well, but irrc many of the long-standing historical sites that are still major wizarding villages have a tentative relationship with the ministry, because many of them were sites of major contentions or resistances in the days when the villages were more influential.
Although these villages are part of the greater body of wizarding world, they are still semi-independent as well and simply annexed into the protection of the ministry.
Therefore the ministry has multiple reasons for there not to be dementors walking around in broad daylight especially in places like hogsmeade, where public image is a factor. if they overstep themselves too far it can lead to a revolt.
Even then, I believe that the dementors did patrol hogsmeade during night time after curfew, as a sort of heightened night watch.
It's much easier to plant ministry officials instead, in hopes to flush out any would be assailants. this could in fact be part of the reason the minister himself was in the village at the time.
