    I would love it if Panasonic and/or Olympus produced more of these tiny M43 cameras in different colors. I picked up a GM1 and it’s so much fun to use. My phone camera will never replace this experience. It’s just not as fun to use. I don’t know why.

    Glad someone is still keeping the conversation going about small, daily-use cameras! With a USB-C port that enables decent file transfer with a cable in a theoretical newer model, maybe the microSD card wouldn't be as much of an issue (assuming the space saved is used wisely!)

    I agree! My GX850/800 is a pocket rocket with the 14-42mm power zoom lens. This was my pocket carry camera on a trip to the Amazon, Peru and Galapagos. It's a great camera to get close to people without being an intrusive tourist. The 4k video clips are fantastic. It even proved itself capturing frigate birds in flight. With the Laowa 7.5mm wise angle lens, the GX850 creates immersive video of interiors. The camera is relatively rare and no longer made (come on Panasonic!!). I got mine used like new on mpb.😊
    Just a side note, the Lumix ZS100 with 1 inch sensor was my pocket travel camera on a recent Hawaii trip. With its 25-250mm zoom, it fits easily in a pocket and covers most photo needs (even some astro!). Photos and 4k video are comparable to my m4/3 cameras unless you're seriously into pixel peeping. The ZS100 and little brother ZS80 may take the place of my GX850 in my travel bag and everyday carry! Maybe the ZS100 or ZS200 might get a future m4nerd review😉👍

    Thanks for another lovely video, nicely done! I might add regarding the GM5 EVF argument (as someone who owns the GM1, GM5 and GX880) that the downside with the EVF in the GM5 is that it squashes the LCD screen vertically, so Panasonic decided to put in a 16:9 ratio LCD on the GM5 for that reason. Great for video perhaps, but I doubt anyone would choose it primarily to shoot video nowadays. So when shooting photos this means the 4:3 image is only a part of that already smaller LCD, with bars on the side, making the actual live view very tiny. For photography I very much prefer to so much larger 4:3 LCD image on the GM1, GX800/880 etc.

    Based partly on your videos, I picked up a gx850 for edc a few weeks ago. Totally agree, it's a good size and weight to drop into a sling bag/purse with a pancake and maybe the very compact and sharp 35-100 3.5-5.6. No evf is hardest with lots of sun, backlit scene and manual focus with peaking. Great menus, esp compared to Olympus. Had a gx85 before - better camera no doubt- but just too heavy for edc. Thank you!

    I used to work in a department store and ever since we stocked this camera I just fell in love with the size and simplicity of it.
    Cut to 6 or so years later and I found one second hand and remembered my fondness for this system - it's just as lovely to shoot as I remembered and still a more mature looking image compared to a phone. The autofocus is more than adequate and I personally have the 20mm f1.7 lens kept on the front of mine as I prefer the slightly more cinematic look of the 40mm equivalent. If you really want to push the quality, especially in lower light, DXO DeepPrime/XD processing basically eliminates noise at higher ISO values too!
    Absolutely recommend this if you are wanting to break away from using your phone on holiday and just want a nice, easy to handle Every Day Carry.

I think you have an LX10 or LX100 and have been shopping for one of those but too expensive. I found a contender a G7X Mii Canon used for great price and that fills the void. Keep rocking the camera scene and I'll keep watching.

    Hi, it's exactly as you say, even if I have a larger sensor on a Fuji or Sony, I prefer to take out the GX800 and 12-32 in combination with the Olympus 45mm f1.8. It's small, light, focuses well, and the quality from the phone can't be compared. Oh, and it also has 4K and a rotating display. The biggest advantage is that it fits in your pocket)))

    I love the GX800. It's such a compact camera especially with the 20mm f.7. I also have the 14-42mm pz. Recently I bought the 14-140mm zoom which I've found to be very sharp and crisp at all focal lengths. When using the built in flash, however, the images have a shadow on the bottom of the pictures between 14mm and 35mm. I'm now tempted to sell this lens and buy the 45-175mm pz instead. Either that, or buy a GX85 and a separate flashgun.

    I bought myself a GX880 a couple of months ago - my (quick count) 5th M43 body 😲. It's got to be the ultimate travel camera. I always wanted a GM1 but never found one at a sensible price so gave up after a while. It charges over USB too (does the GX800 do that?) so one less thing to take 👍. I don't think my G80 is going to get a look-in this summer 😎.

    Great video Emily, I have a GX880 which is essentially the same camera. I love it for a carry everywhere camera. Only downside is Apple Photos doesn't seem to understand the RAW files from it but Lightroom/DXO have no problem. The 12-32 lens it comes with is cracking for a plastic fantastic lens and gives some stabilisation which isn't present in the camera itself. I tend to carry 12-32 and a 20mm f1.7 in a pocket for low light and portraits which slightly more shallow DoF. Replaced my Ricoh GR with this set-up, loved that camera but got fed up with dust on the sensor and the expense of getting it cleaned. Enjoy the Netherlands 🇳🇱

    The only problem I had with this camera is that it isn't very comfortable to hold. I have carpal tunnel issues on both my wrists and it just starts to hurt even after a few seconds of holding this camera.
    I have sinced slapped a half case on it and a neck strap. Still hurts every now and then but those two things have definitely helped.

    Hello there my nerdy friend 👋 So I’m in a bit of a conundrum, the same one I was in 5-6 years ago and I thought I had sorted it out by going mirrorless apsc/full frame recently but still find myself in the same spot. Because originally I used DSLRS, then switched over to LUMIX GX80 and didn’t like it enough, same issues as everyone (bad AF, small sensor). But now again, I’d love to find a camera that’s small as possibly can be with a good telephoto lens, because I know quite a few good pancake zoom & primes but if you can recommend, either going for GX80,GM1,GM5 or anything alike i do require a very good but small ish telephoto zoom/super zoom. Otherwise if I can’t find anything I’ll just stick with my M50 or A6100 or A7C.
    Thank you! regards!

It is tiny and tunneling, but its there and it works, even if it it somewhere akin to compose with a loo roll core, that as been rolled up. I did try shooting with the phone for a three year periode, but the lack of tactilitiy drowe me nuts. • @MrJed_s
      @MrJed_s ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sure the G100 is a great camera, but imo the GX850 (et al) is considerably more compact and 80g difference in weight is easily noticeable, especially if carried around in a pocket. The G100 is a good camera and definitely has more video features than a lot of these slightly older GX models. However for me I find the G100 to be quite plasticky - I’ve actually cracked the bottom significantly around the tripod screw just with normal use.
      The G100 in terms of image quality will be basically the same as most of the GX models, and it does have the EVF over the GX800, so definitely worth a consideration.

      @@bitsandblocks7826 Hi, when I got my GM1 in silver and black, I bought it to go with my GX9 silver and black, never thinking it had cult status. I find that I use the GM1 more than the GX9, even though the GX9 is a very good camera. I now see with the high prices especially with the GM5, that they have indeed reached a cult status. I bough mine GM1 in good condition with no lens for £120 about 16 mths ago

    Hi what's the difference between the 800 and the 880?

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! It’s REALLY similar. The gx880 has a little raised handgrip on the front, and a few more “intelligent” modes like “night selfie” and beautification features - mostly quite dated gimmicks. It’s essentially the same camera if you can find it for a bargain go for it 😁

    The GM5 is a unicorn camera, they are more expensive used now (corrected for inflation) then when they sold new. Why can't Panasonic take a hint and give us an updated GM6? I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

    EDIT// the lack of grip on this camera was too much (or too little ;-) for me. You have to pinch hold it, which gets strenuous very quickly. I guess the E-PL cameras are a better fit for me. //EDIT Just ordered one of these for under €200. Been carrying an Oly E-PL2 for the last while - it'll be interesting to see how this cpmpares. (My main camera is a Panasonic GX9, but, even though not very big, i find it too big and heavy to always carry.)

    I own the GX800 and the G9. And sadly I have to say that the skincolors out of the G9 are much more pleasing. And the Dynamic Range is worse. So the highligths of the GX800 are often blown out. Im more often reaching to the G9 because I dont trust the GX800 with portraits.

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think that’s probably to be expected with the g9 being the more modern flagship in terms of colours and dynamic range for sure. I reallly hope we get a refreshed G9ii at some point 🤞

    You don’t mention the gx85 anymore. What are your thoughts on it in 2023?

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you wanted something a little larger with evf and ibis it’s superb!! It’s a little heavier as well compared to these tiny cameras I’ve been reviewing recently - tho definitely not massive, and built very well!
      I sold that camera to invest in a different one - maybe towards my GH6? I lose track - and yet again I regret selling it 🙈

    •  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank yOu for your response. U actually inspired me to buy one a few years ago that’s pretty much just sitting here and I bought a couple lenses for it so was just wondering if I should keep it or sell it and get a new one but I really don’t want to spend more money on another camera if this one is still good on 2023 and I barely use it.

    Why are the really interesting and legendary cameras laid there to die. Lumix must see the secondhand prices of the GM1/5. Give us a Lumix GM7 with magnesium build, an EVF and the newest sensor. Why doesn’t the Pen-F ii come to market, the secondhand prices of those skyrocket beyond their new list price. As much as I liked that camera, I liked the value of it more so sold it.

    A lot of these small cameras are getting popular again. But the camera makers are not making a lot of new ones now. I think its because of the chip shortage that's said not to be back to normal until 2024. That's what Sony said when people was asking about PS5.

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting, I never thought how that might affect things. I think the world is more than ready for some small and capable new cameras!

      @@MicroFourNerds Also a lot of the Fuji shoots are now looking at M43 because the small cameras are cheaper on Ebay. Even Fuji and Olympus have cut back on small cameras but there are so many new videos popping on now on TH-cam about small cameras.
