Hey everybody here is the top end build of my N54. At the end of the video I discuss the coils I'll be using.

This is one of the most detailed video I've seen. Thanks. Very informative
Thank you I appreciate it
I sucked a piece of aluminum that cracked off my OFH, so I'm mid teardown right now. (Still haven't found the piece that got sucked into the oil intake in the head.) I just found your videos and watched them all, you've been a great resource. Can't wait to find this chunk and begin the rebuild... then relocated inlets, outlets, downpipes, intercooler, CP w/ tial 50mm, stage 3+ clutch, new hpfp, 450 lpfp. Then e85 dyno session and hopefully some smiles and miles!
i like how the cam shaft tdc is simple its just the qr code
ya wait till you have to change the trays out due to metal ring eating them away it's such a pain lol
Nah perfect time to drop some shrick low lift cams in there, forced upgrades are the best. I don't have to feel guilty about spending the money lmao.@@jrock865
Appreciate the vid . Will be finishing my motor up next week!
Great stuff here 👍🏼
I would love to learn how to do this precisely
🙌 Thank you! 😁
Good stuff
Beautiful!
need to fix audio. very hard to hear at times. very well done video nonetheless, informative and attention to detail. great job!
Hi mate hoping you might have an answer - I've bolted my cams in and Im about to do the timing but with cylinder 1 at TDC I can't get my cams to spin to the right position. It feels like the valves may be hitting the piston maybe?
Would I need to unbolt the cams, spin them to the righ position and then attempt to bolt them down again that way? Currently I can get about 90 degrees of movement on each side but its not enough to spin to the correct positions with either.
I answered my own question lol. The answer was yes I had to unbolt them, turn them to roughly where I wanted them, clamp the cam covers and then rebolt them, if anyone runs into the same issue.
Yes sir lol you got it.
@@335iN54Enthusiast My issue now is that im struggling to get the vanos units onto the front of the cams with the chain. Any tips for makign that easier?
Just takes some finesse...tilt them in the right way.
@@335iN54Enthusiast I'm close but it just feels like my chain it the tiniest bit too small. I'm hoping I havent got a loose section of chain somewhere below that is causing the top to be too short.
hi great video you have here! do you have an idea of how much would it cost to rebuild an n54 on the cheapest side if i do all the work myself? or is it cheaper to just swap the whole engine and buy a used one?
It's cheaper to buy a used one.
Can valve guides be replaced without hoisting the block? The same way stems can?
Sure the head has to come off though.
Very nice Video 👌 thanks
Thanks, I appreciate it
If I get my bottom sleeved is it the same gasket used or would it be different gasket ?
If you mean your cylinders sleeved then yes I believe you still use the factory head gasket.
I want to build my engine too but I wish I have someone to guide me😅
🙌 Thank you! 😁
Another great video. I cant wait to be able to build my own someday. I know that these engines oil pan gaskets like to leak. Has anyone you know or known to use a small bead of hondabond to cure this?
Thankyou! The oil pan and gasket design are actually really good. A new oil pan gasket is all you need. No sealant no nothing.
@@335iN54Enthusiast right on, thank you sir.
What paint did you use for valve cover? I am planning on painting mines.
Same paint that's on the car. Automotive paint. Base, clear.
Question: How does a person know if the guy doing his engine rebuild is doing a correct and thorough job?
A person would spend a lot of money, but the quality of the workmanship can still be a question.
Trust.
@@335iN54Enthusiast I understand, but one hears regularly of sloppy mechanical work done on their cars. Me included, numerous times. And from the local Audi dealership no less. One time this dealerships mechanic even sent me home without tighten the lugs on my right front wheel and I nearly lost it on the freeway! I called them after I limped home and they said to just bring it back and they would tighten it properly. Seriously. And there have been several occurances of them using substandard parts vs OEM, damaging the vehicle and having to send it to a body shop, etc. Another guy related to me how this dealership once set the interior of his A4 on fire. They tried repairing it, but it was never the same.
This is an Audi dealership right here in town. One of the premier dealerships in this city. I would like to trust them, but obviously I cannot. Its sad because Audi and Porsche cars themselves are excellent.
And when you are talking about rebuilding an engine, there is a lot going on there. Done well and correctly its a great thing and worth the investment. Done poorly it can be an expensive nightmare.
Wow no kidding. I'd stay away from that dealership lol....
@@335iN54Enthusiast Yeah, well. When you buy your car from there and it's under warranty....
What did you use to clean and paint the block/head?
Thinners and Engine enamel.
What sort of bolts are one time use and need to be brand new when replacing the head and cam ledges? Or are those bolts reusable?

Easy.
Where did you get the kit to rebuild the engine I have N54 too
No such thing. Buy every single piece individually as needed. One place to check is FCP euro
What Technical manual did you use to rebuild this engine?
Bmw service
