What oil and oil change interval were you using? I am a bit surprised by the sludge on the cam ledges. What kind of power were you making with the stock turbos? Your videos are very good. I am looking forward to when you get the top end on the block. You show that with a little research this engine can be rebuilt in a garage just like a SBC or an LS. This is just a minor thing, but your audio is only coming out of the left channel. I am not sure if you edit the videos at all but I am assuming you are recording with just one mic. You should be able to copy the left channel audio to the right channel so the sound comes out of both. The music at the beginning is using both channels (and is quite a bit louder than your voice), but your narration is only on the left channel.
@@335iN54Enthusiast Ok, I see. The 15k mi (24,000 km) oil change intervals BMW recommends are a joke. I have been using Rotella T6 with about 7500 mile intervals (12,000 km). I established this interval based on used oil analysis through Blackstone Labs. Your mileage may vary (literally).
@@Fix_It_Again_Tony I see what you mean....yeah regular oil changes are sooo important in these engines especially. Myself being so picky ill probably change my oil every 5000kms....but it would actually take almost a year for me to drive that amount since its not a daily driver. Thanks for subscribing

Can anyone clarify whether these are cam-ground pistons? If I'm correct, this allows extra oil coverage at start-up and then they expand to a perfect circle at operating temperature. That would explain the piston free-play when cold.
It's possible that the skirts of the piston expand when hot to reduce piston slap however the free play I show in my video on my worn out engine is the top of the piston due to worn out rings. With my fresh pistons and rings installed the piston play was dramatically reduced to almost nothing.
Very helpful content for the N54 community! Thank's for posting Friendly suggestion: Re-tool your intro audio. It is waaay louder than your voice, so when I navigate from one video to the next I find it very jarring. Ear buds are out of the question

Very informative video dude, probably the better N54 teardown video on youtube.
Hi there, thank you so much!

I bought the car with 300 k kilometers on it so i dont know the oil change history.

If you take the crank out do you have to get the block resurfaced or can you just clean it up yourself and reseal it?
No you should be okay. Just needs to be cleaned 100%
Great Video! Did you ever place the engine into top dead center?
I did during assembly process. Please watch next videos and you will see
@@335iN54Enthusiast Thanks I wanted to know for just replacing my N54 head gasket! Should I be aware of anything else when doing this?
Why are you replacing your head gasket? They never have issues....Watch the head portion of my videos and you will see what you need to know.

Thanks I am working on my intro volume for my upcoming vids. Posted videos cannot be edited.
How many miles did this engine have on it?
This engine had 300000kms. The cylinder head I had machined only had 120000kms and the valve guides and seals were shot
When is the next video?
I am in the process of building the bottom end of the engine...will have a video up very soon.

@@robloxperalta9646 Yeah...120psi is very low so you dont have much choice....needs a rebuild. Mine was 160ish and still needed a rebuild.
@@335iN54Enthusiast I'll do it after I watch your rebuild video
