At the Skyway you really need to lockdown your drag to have more control of their digging ability. Great catch and keep it up.

I would love to fish with you sometime. I go to ft. Desoto quite often and just started going to sand key park.
Have to keep reeling the line steadily with no slack (no pumping) otherwise the grouper will get into the rocks. I have fished that area since they put down the reef rubble from the old Skyway and have seen many others fish for grouper. It's hard to land a big fish because you are not dropping straight down, you are way out there at a bad angle which favors the grouper who head for the bottom as soon as they feel the hook. That pier is slowly but surely deteriorating....wouldn't surprise me if dot shuts it down in a few years

What a great fish Bush, congratulations The skyway is a tough place to fish. If you do not know what you're doing, I tried it several times with no success. Never seen anybody fish for gags with the balloon. How would you even begin to tie the balloon to your line?
Thank you my friend what's tough but I got one. Pinch the leader line then tie the balloon around it. When it's time to release just give it a little pop 😄💪
I was having issues later in the day catching pin fish. I killed them between the first and second bathrooms and then down by the last bathroom before you head down to the end

You have to get lucky sometimes skyway is hit or miss 😀💪
I eat 1 time a day that's 3 meals probably.
