- The difficulty of getting bad endings varies greatly. In some cases, getting them is inevitable if you don't already know how to prevent it, but on rare occasions, you might actually have to put in more effort to end your adventure in an unhappy way.
But bizarrely enough, perhaps both of the easiest and hardest bad endings to obtain of all time happen to be from the same game...
Bad endings. I don't know about anyone else, but they terrify me. Just when the hero(es) thought everything was finally right, just when it looked like peace had finally returned to the world, something happens that, at best, creates a bittersweet victory and, at worst, spoils everything and the enemies win, despite everything that happened throughout your adventure. Bad endings don't give you any second chances, you screwed things up for everyone and you must pay dearly...

I laughed my ass off at the implications that these endings had, their creepy but hilarious because it just goes straight to the credits and lets your imagination go wild.

Oh my god, I got the dog ending when I was really little and no one believed me so I thought it must have been a dream when I thought back on it but iT WAS REAL HOLY
When I played this game I married the mermaid Daryl(the mad scientist) was keeping locked in his basement. It never occurred to me how creepy that plot point was until I revisited this game as an adult...

I keep forgetting how unpleasant and evil the characters in the Harvest Moon games can be. But most of them are humans, so go figure.
Simaginary Friend see i liked most of the characters in magical melody though your rival is a jerk at first but a redeemable one theodore (hmm's thomas) is kinda pompous still but way way nicer than in this game XD idk i love magical melody basically everyone is nice to an extent after a short while some of them are still kinda terse and cranky toned in their manner of speaking no one is a complete unpleasant evil character they all have their likable moments
I agree. Some are just so infuriating and some unavoidable heart events just piss me off. I played the cute version of this game and I hate Skye's first heart event... He makes your character and Lumina appear like bimbo airheads that lose all their abilty to think rational just because of a 'hot' guy. He literally just robbed Lumina of something in her mansion and she just runs after him like a giggling fangirl

There’s an even quicker bad ending in Harvest Moon 3 for GBC. You can just reject going to the farm at the very beginning and you’re just brought back to the main menu.

Ahah I knew that you would put the mushroom ending in there. I totally agree with you, games with super hidden bad endings like that is pretty cool. However, if I discovered a bad ending like that when I was a kid, I would not feel like a badass, I would feel traumatised. (you are legit killing the whole town with that mushroom, you included)

@@jackscott8259 Thank goodness I never got far enough into DS to find that Toadstool ending. After having the game corrupt my save data when I tried to save in slot 2, that was the end of DS for me.

I consider the implied mass homicide as the best ending because I find it the most satisfying and most entertaining part of the whole game.

To be honest, in mineral town the people bully you for having a gold fence and here the mayors the same so.....Killing them is justified out of their past actions. Next time put Death in there
I like how in the remake they just say "People used to get mad about gold fences but nobody cares anymore" if you put one up.
Now I want to see speedrunners compare this games' starting bad ending with Super Paper Mario's starting bad ending to see which one is quicker.

I think there is an Even faster Bad ending. At The Start of Golden Sun it asks if you are Ready to Save The world (or something) , well you can just say no, Game Over
Danielthewizard Actually, it isnt. You have to go through the prologue, then the sanctum and get the elemental stars. then you can say no. this is shorter than that.

Oh geez I've had that game for a long time (when I was I kid I reset the game all of the time lol) and the ending even though I got the "good ending" always made me cry for some reason. I can't imagine how much I'd cry if it died.

Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life SE on the PS2 has a similar early game over when the farm's caretaker asks you if you want the farm - if you reply "No" (which I did the first time playing, for the lulz) the game ends right there lol
I forgot about the fact that he flubs the "you're our last hope!" line and says "soap" instead in his panic. Doing this again and seeing this happen made me laugh VERY hard.

I love just how well suited the protagonist's expression is for this game. Even for these dark events it just works - heck, it almost seems more fitting for those than it'd be if you were being nice!

Well at least with the first ending, speedrunning this game would be a breeze!
I never knew about these bad endings. I experienced a bad ending when I serendipitously activated the feature that gives you infinite gold. I doubt they expected anyone to grow mushrooms, let alone poisonous ones, to level 100. HMDS has a lot of glitches. I nearly gave up on my mushroom shed because going to it, especially during winter time, freezes the game.

I got More Friends of Mineral town for my sister, who felt a bit left behind with the Harvest Moon Craze some of my family members started. I noted how weird it is that you can attack Thomas in that game , so it's kinda blowing my mind that there's some continuity here with that.

This probably has to be my favorite entry of the HM series mostly because you can get away with some of these acts as seen on this vid (if you ask me letting the dog have it's way with the Mayor was pure catharsis at that point of the game, and especially when the whole golden lumber shenanigans happen)
Also love how you can actually make the witch princess fall in love with you but only if you manage to piss off all your other possible love interests in-game.
on a sidenote, as for looking for (possible) hidden bad endings.... have you tried Phantasy Star III?
turns out that on a certain part of the beginning, if you well.... decide to go all Pokemon Emerald on it,
the game has quite an interesting way of saying, "you screwed up, BIG TIME bub"

I think it's in Harvest Moon DS, but it might be a different Harvest Moon game, where when the guy talks to you about shipping and you say you don't agree to have your things shipped, it game overs.

The other bad ending is having your save file corrupted. This game was glitchy as hell and loved to corrupt save files.

Bruh when I was a kid and I first played this game I was rude as fuck to Thomas and somehow it triggered a glitch that made nobody ever come out of their houses. Not only that but every building was always locked. They only came out for the festivals. It was the weirdest shit.
This makes me miss HMDS
