  • Reacting to my new wave QUEEN. What a great flashback! One of the best hits of the 80's alternative scene. A song that is still relevant 29 years later.

      Would like to hear Dear Prudence by The Creatures which was Siouxsie and Budgie from the Banshees great song. The UK had hundreds of great 80's songs that never made it across the pond and it's nice to see you playing some nice diverse tracks from the era, love your enthusiasm for the greatest music decades of the 80's and 90's, I would like to suggest quite a lot of obscure tracks for your channel from the UK! that I think would be well received and never charted in the US. Here's a few The Adventures-Broken Land, Voice of the Beehive-I Say Nothing, Lene Lovich-It's You Only You, King -The Taste of Your Tears, Sparks -When Do I Get To Sing My Way to name but a few

      @@boojiboy6236 I only know of the Siouxsie and The Banshees version of Dear Prudence th-cam.com/video/M6rrTROoZIw/w-d-xo.html , when Robert Smith was "temping" with the band. Was there another version by The Creatures?! Meanwhile...Sparks? There's an obscure one! I (like to) think that in Canada, we had a bit of an edge over the U.S. when it came to first hearing and welcoming so many greats bands of the 2nd British Invasion. Music that has stood the test of time.

      @@MadcapShambleton Thanks for the reply!, my apologies! for some reason I thought The creatures released Dear Prudence but it was Siouxsie and the Banshees, and I am glad in Canada you were more fortunate to hear a lot of British bands that the US missed out on. Sparks have just recently released their 25th Album to critical acclaim in the UK!

    I remember the very day I first heard this song. It was a bright, sunny afternoon in Southern California near the end of the school year. I was visiting a friend when I overheard this from the living room. I immediately dropped what I was doing, ran to the TV, and was utterly entranced until it was over. The sound just blew my 11-year-old mind. I became a fan of Siouxsie and the Banshees ever since.

    Nice! Recently "re-"discovered Siouxsie Sioux after being far too long off my radar; going through a renewed "phase" of The Cure as well. How I wanted to look like her back in '80's high school but didn't have the confidence. She is truly masterful, and it's been great to catch up on old interviews to really see her good nature and intelligence.

    Spellbound would be my favourite her and her band. Lot of other great stuff from The Scream (Mirage), Kiss in The Dreamhouse (Circle, She's A Carnival), Happy House, The Staircase (Mystery) but this is a lovely late effort where she looks naturally beautiful without all the iconic makeup and the style is different but recognisably Siouxsie. She was definitely a presence, a lot of stage charisma and that distinctive voice. One of the strong female new wave icons of the 80s (along with Kate Bush, Chrissie Hynde, Annie Lennox and Debbie Harry amongst others)

    Back in the day in Chicago there was a show called JBTV on in the middle of the night. This guy Jerry Bryant worked in radio or radio advertising during the day and played obscure and new music videos at night. He was really invested in showing new bands and British ones that maybe didn't get a lot of airplay in the US. That's where I saw this video and got it on VHS tape. I still associate the song with being 18 and naive and, well, in love with the wrong person 😄

  • @LucianCorrvinus
    @LucianCorrvinus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The use of Indian Raga and the cello bridge was inspired at the time. And the song is about the tragically short life of Jayne Mansfield. Who died in a car accident, on her way to a event , the thing being, she was so very desperate for the attention, and the adoration as a crutch, she would "go to an opening of a Piggy Wiggly if you invited her". That was why she was in that car that night, trying to chase down her necessary fix of adoration, miles from home. It is deeply expressed and tinged with the what might have beens, and the if onlys that poor Jayne knew all to well during her life. It also is overflowing with the sorrow and loss of the many fans who loved her, and those who discovered her even after her Death who also feel that empty sadness she seemed to have always shadowing her in her last days. As well as the senseless loss. Even now....she was not Maryln,a thing she was always reminded of, but her brief and brilliant star suffered just as much when it fell from the skies.More perhaps for not being able to attain what she craved. The knowledge, the feeling,of the unshakeable Love of the public....it was always there, she just never got it how she needed it. Again perhaps if she had not died, she could of grown to discern it, conqoured her personal demons....alas we shall never know....and besides Dear Prudence, this is my most loved song from her and the group....and my favorite new wave? I challenge you to listen to the Red Hot and Blue album of various late 80s early 90s artists covering Cole Porter songs. Iggy Pop and Blonde Harry siging What a Swellagant Party, David Byrne's Don't Fence Me In, Anne Lennox does Night and Day, The Tompson Twins hit up Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, and check out Too Darn Hot,Mrs Otis Regretts( She's Unable To Lunch Today) and my favorite piece of new wave from that era...I Love Paris...deceptivally traditional and sung in contrary manner to Goth music, yet maudlin enough to bridge La Vie Boheme and early Goths last golden flowering....before the emergence of Grunge and dance mix R and B in the later 90s..

    The movie is kinda silly, but has a genuine moment when Mansfield reveals the line that gives the movie its title. It can be seen in the trailers but lacks context. She has been told by her shore leave companion how kissing her would not be fair to her since he is married to another. Her rebuke is WWII era shocking in that she did not need to know what his motivations were, nor did he need to worry about her feelings. She is carrying out the wishes of a presumed dead soldier she knew, probably only as a pen pal. In his last letter to her he describes being pinned down by enemy fire, a hopeless situation, then seeing US planes overhead and the proverbial calvary arriving. His closing asks the Mansfield character to pass his gratitude to his brothers in arms when she meets them: Kiss them for me. SIOUXEE artfully and poignantly adds if I am delayed and I may be delayed as a nod to that unseen character and the bittersweet request as honored by the Mansfield charaxter

    Hey Cat! As a fellow Gen-Xer, I would love to hear either your memories of first hearing the song or just your thoughts on them. I love listening to the music, but they feel incomplete without reflection. This was on my high school make-out playlist. I was thrilled to meet her in 1995 as well!

    I´ve just found out this new channel and i have subscribed. I discovered them in the early 90´s with "Kiss them for me" my favourite track on Superstition. I have all of their albums; her last track was "Love crime" in 2015 of Hannibal soundtrack. I recommend "Into a swan" to you to react and "Standing there" by The Creatures, her other band. I´m a Spanish subscriber, would you react to Spanish music?
