Love the design. I especially like the sheer bow. It reminds me of the old Chris-Craft woodies. Great to see the classic Wellcraft badges, emblems, and logos on cruisers again!
Dan, discovered you a short time ago. Wonderful mix of fact, insight, advice and, for people like me, education. I hope to retire in around 14-15 months so looking to boating! If you ever do a sessions specifically for new boats I’ll sign up or, a Q&A. Keep up the great work 👏🏼
G'day Rick! Glad it's helping - I am really enjoying bringing this to you guys. So I am getting a LOT of requests for this and at this stage I have not set anything formal up yet. Basically I have been doing some one on one consulting to specifically help guys evaluate multiple boats they were considering and discuss the pro's and con's. Feel free to email me info@dansboatlife.com.au when you're ready.
I'm not sure why these "rough sea vessels" choose to ignore rounding off all the sharp angles/edges on the countertops, etc. That being said, this is the sharpest - no pun intended - closed flybridge boat I have seen so far. Keep up the good work, Mr. Jones!
Dan, Dan, .... this is not work! Haha! Mrs R loved the pale blue hull....and it does look gorgeous.....but I think the major selling point of this boat is without a doubt the FOUR BARS! Love it. S
This is hands down the best multi purpose boat out there. I think Viking can get another cabin in there by doing that bunk room, but you also have a crews quarters so the additional bunk room isn't needed.
Great video mate - we had an Aquila 54 at Ao Po and got to know Martin well - he was very knowledgeable and gave us some great cruising tips. My only comment about keeping a boat in Thailand is beware of the weather and the detrimental effect it can have on your boat’s exterior - constant maintenance is the only solution but the Thais are great to work with. Cheers Swanny
G'day Swanny. I reckon you're onto something by having a boat in Thailand though. It's also a nice middle spot between Sydney and Europe so good if you have mates in both places as you can meet in the middle. Yep the conditions just seem like tropical North Queensland so regular attention would absolutely be necessary. Thai's are so lovely and also a lot more cost efficient so I reckon it would be easier to justify semi-permanent crew to keep up with the job list. Of all the brands I would be focusing on Riviera and some of the builders in Florida as they are already building with this in mind.
how is an SX88 in its class? it's larger than 24.5m which puts it in different regulation in the EU and the Riviera 78 is $5.5 million compared to about $9 million for the SX88
Noce boat, but what was rattling while you took it out for a spin? Something loose or something not quite secure? I would find it quite annoying after a while. Again, it's a beautiful beautiful boat!
Nice yacht but below my minimum LOA and not a full displacement. I'm sure the owner of this yacht will have many pleasant adventures cruising the islands.
It's a Lovely yacht, in all aspects. I think FOR ME, the hull color would get old, i would most likely change to a different color,, but again that is just me and certainly no reflection on the builder or its owner ! The design is spectacular for sure.
I felt just as comfortable operating this boat as I did the smaller Riv's. That's how sensible this design is. I reckon a lot of previous Riv owners could jump stright onto this and within a short amount of time they'll be a total boss with it. Personally i'm a blue guy so the colour is to my liking but yes each to their own.
@@BoatLife_DansBoatLife I like yachts with color, I'd probably order it with a deeper blue but that's just me, nothing at all wrong with the yacht It's a great design and built.
Dan, back in '89 we sailed the yacht up from Singapore to Phuket for some R&R. 1st night in the anchorage we had dinner on the beach. It was a very good dinner, as at 4am the skipper bought a 30ft long-tail wooden Thai boat with a Yanmar diesel. We used it around the islands for a week and then picked it up with the crane and put it on the helicopter deck. We took back to the Med and blasted around the Riviera with it. Got it back to Antigua where it still lives today, tied to the hotel dock in English Harbour.
Yeah that's a valid point actually. I guess it's to maintain the open plan feel on both decks. But sure, if grandma needed to wee that could be a drama. I did get the impression that the 78MY is semi-custom so I think if you wanted to do that they would find a way for you.
That’s a question for MAN. But knowing the Riv team id say very likely they have consulted MAN on this before making any claims. I stated the fuel flow so you can double check.
@@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Its more about range. 10 knots, 80 lph, 10,500 L, 10 % reserve, its around 1180 NM range. Its ok, but not great. Love to see Riv build this in a more efficient semi displacement version.
Oh sweet! I must have hit 25k subs today! I'm long and detailed in my videos so I don;t think I have the mass market appeal. Judging by the comments it appears to be all boat owners and buyers watching my videos. Next stop 50K I guess!
You talk about fishing with mates, she is not set up to fish from and very impractical to do so. Certainly won’t be trolling for game fish. You certainly can not back down on a fish. Just be a little more realistic in your comments. I have a Riviera and I game fish from it and I love my boat. What I like about the Rivieras is the quality of their finishes and workmanship
I’m fine. Struggle to see what’s needs to calm down about. I am a Riv fan. Post relates to the comment “fishing buddies” eg more a sales marketing comment than a realistic point of view. Cheers
So just to clarify - nobody pays me for these videos and i'm not selling boats anymore so there is no sales and marketing from me. I see your point about backing down on fish - that wasn't exactly what I had in mind when talking to the camera. I see a lot of guys with boats in this category with something like a Grady White in tow. Using the Riv as a mothership and taking off for fun adventures. Could be fishing or whatever you fancy. So that's what I was imagining when talking to the camera and I guess the words I could think of at the time was fishing buddies. Hope that makes more sense now.
I did swim haha it’s totally fine to swim in Thailand. Have you confused with Northern Australia? Because that’s correct about Australia. The jellyfish, and the crocs and sea snakes and sharks will ruin your day
@@BoatLife_DansBoatLife I'm watching, at 27:23, all the jellyfish in the water in this video. They are everywhere. Still, it's the life. You... pulling up anchor and cruising to... go get ice cream! 🤣
Nice interior, but the design is about as ugly as they come. Give me a Viking, Hatt or Bertram! In fact, I'd take a 10yr old Viking any day of the week including Sat and Sun over that ugly ass boat!
Agreed. BTW, I do enjoy your videos, but the new RIV style of angles/massive windows in the hull just look like the European boats, which to me are just a pretty RV that best just a bay boat that looks good on a mooring ball while sipping a glass of wine. Don't know why Riv went down this road? They built a very beautiful convertible in the early 2000's that was what we Bertram owners refer to as a battlewagon. This is not a negative comment, as I absolutely love the Riviera line-up. However, that there’s no day heads on the main deck or the enclosed fly bridge levels on any of their vessels, especially over 60 feet, is my only disappointment. Otherwise, extremely brilliant boats. 🍾🥂🛥
You can option a day head on the bridge deck where the Sunpad was located. It shows on their website under the Layout diagrams, plus I've seen a YT Video of one that had it.
No doubting that Riviera is a world class yacht builder showing the competition how it's done.
Cruising Thailand on Big Mama … hats off to the owners.
Great review Dan , what a beauty !
That was a super awesome opportunity!
This is the first yacht presentation that included operational tutorial. EXCELLENT
I am becoming a Riviera fan because of your videos! BTW - the cleanliness of yachts can put some hospitals to shame. Immaculate!
Oh glad to hear that! This is a brand that's worthy of more attention. They are doing a fantastic job
The blue looks fantastic! Love your reviews!
Thank you! Cheers!

Interesting way to get into the shower. I would have put the hinges on the other side. Or have it open out.

If you don't mind asking, how many stops have the crew made on the way to Phuket from Gold coast on this Riviera 78MY?
The vessel came up from Australia to Singapore as cargo.

Stunning, but no day heads on main or upper deck is a shortfall for an 80ft boat. Otherwise, Riv make some of the best yachts on the world.
