Someone once said to me they wouldn't like to put clothes on that someone else has previously worn. I asked them if they thought that they were the only person to try on an item of clothing from a regular shop. Imagine how many people have tried on a piece of clothing in one day in a regular shop. 😂 Long live the charity shop.😊
I used to regularly travel around the UK for my work prior to retirement and any spare time was spent visiting the local charity shops. It soon became apparent that the more affluent the area, the better quality items could be found, but of course this would also be reflected in the pricing. In Pinner (Middlesex) I came across a charity shop that only sold designer items, something I've also recently discovered in Lytham and near Bolton, where I currently live. A great way of finding a really special item for a particular occasion. In my home town in Sussex, there were so many charity shops, local people actually complained about it, but I loved them all! In this day and age when new clothes are so expensive, it is how so many of us now regularly buy our clothes. I get so excited when I find a bargain and if one is savvy, something which has obvious "potential" can be brought back to life by being dry cleaned, carefully laundered or even slightly altered by a tailor (I regularly use a good local one). I love your obvious passion and enthusiasm for same!
First trip to try charity shop shopping today, maybe beginners luck, but I got a beautiful white jacket, Tommy Hilfiger for £15. I wouldn't have thought of going there without seeing your bargains Monica, thank you !!😊
I really like your videos. You have a lovely warm personality. You present really clearly, spend just the right amount of time on each category. Good tips on how to get the best from charity shop buys. Would like to see other videos of you trying on your purchases and how you would style them.
great choices! I love shopping vintage vicariously :-) could you do some zoom in shots on shoes earrings and other items you pick up? I'd love to see them in detail
What a fabulous shop. Lucky you. Great tips and those classic styles have longevity, so even more sustainable. Got myself a great find today in Cancer research shop. White broderie anglais shift dress. Just £5.25 😊 On a role at the moment with finds. Had while there when 8 couldn't find anything I liked 🙄
Hi Monica another great video really enjoying them thank u so much would like to c u trying some clothes on in the shops that would be good have a great week from Jackie 😊
What great charity shops you have over there in England.. (I'm here in SoCal). Pricing is very there. Both dark and white blazers looked great on you. Keep them coming Monica!
I’d love to see how you styled up the RL dress and the white blazer purchases. Loved the video, as a fan of pre loved I’m enjoying the tips and ideas. Thanks.
I'm a huge charity shop fan and have found such amazing treasures. It's hard to shop anywhere else now. I've just found you and would love to see loads re of this type of video - thank you so much. I can't find your link for the disinfect spray for shoes - I'd be really interested in that. Thank you x
Oh that's brilliant - thank you. Really looking forward to your next video. I really lovely blazers but have never had the confidence to wear them as I worry they will look too dressy but you have inspired me x
I like your style. Viewing from US, I can't see how these charity shop visits will help my closet, but the philosophy is spot on! Unfortunately, I don't have access to quality charity shops, and I'm not an expert in quality brands. The focus on conservative styles and natural fibers is good advice. What would benefit me, and maybe most, is online links to shopping opportunities. The Halara pants for example might be great for many. Your sources for online vintage would be awesome.
Monica, l was wondering, please, if you purchase items when you go into the stores that you video in, could you please show us how you style the pieces?
Just found your channel. I love it. I buy quite a lot from Vinted but tend to stick to brands I know (such as M & S) because I know the sizing. Think I’ll start looking around some charity shops too now! 😀
Just came across your channel. Omg such useful advice. I am a huge charity shop user. Your tips are going to be used, from looking for quality fabrics to looking for fav designers. Love you. X
You look lovely in the blazers 😊 This is my personal opinion.. I feel the longer blazer tends to overwhelm your petite frame. The shorter ones look more flattering in my humble opinion. On the other hand, is that the style these days? To wear a slightly longer/bigger blazer??? I do want to emphasize you really do look lovely in both
Hi , just came across your videos. Enjoyed them immensely, love your down to earth attitude. Can I ask a small favour. Could you do a c/s video for women over 60 not trend setting fashion but chic, class and elegance for the more mature figure and age..............
Thanks so much for the kind words! Ill definitely give it my best shot! Perhaps more-so focused on ‘timeless & chic style’ as I’m not en expert on the age group 60+ but hopefully the tips would merge across all ages and be useful for everyone 🥰
Monica your vlogs are too too interesting and I really really love your voice so so much you are my inspiration and I wish you have a beautiful weekend🥹🥹🩷🩷
Anyone watching from Australia... I won't gate-keep... Salvos are online now across Australia), & you can get some great gear. I have been buying regularly, from every State, and just got a pair of BNWT shoes for $3.50! So even with postage, they were only $10.50. Aside from the value, you are helping a good charity and dressing sustainably. Win, win.
My grandmother secretly went to, as she called them, "You know what" shops. She admitted one day with a wry smile about one of her "finds". It was a silk blouse. She had taken it home and even though it said on the label to only dry clean, she had washed it and put it on the outside washing line to dry. She had her little nap, a cup of tea then ventured into the garden, fingers crossed, to get her blouse. The damm thing was ruined. Clucking to herself for having been so mean, she took the stiff-as-a-bone garment inside and left it in the kitchen. A while later, she picked it up and it was silky and not stiff at all. Jack Frost had played a trick on her😂
Sadly I do not live in the UK. However I do travel there. It would be amazing if you could perhaps give a listing of great Charity shops in different areas of Uk. Please
I’ve subscribed! You have a good eye. Though what’s wrong with little flowers? Some of the ditsy flower prints can be charming. Re jewellery, my prize charity shop find was a solid silver necklace (hallmarked) with lapis lazuli beads, for £1.99. You never know what treasure you’ll find!
Thanks so much!! Moreso a personal preference but I find smaller flowers look a little more ‘cheap’ (lots of highstreet brands use them) whereas larger prints I find higher-end brands use and thus, feels more premium & elegant (for me anyways) ♥️♥️
@@themonicaway. it’s probably because I grew up in the 70s and 80s - back then large prints were the cheap ones, and designers had moved to small prints.
Just found your channel and subscribed! I adore charity shops so these videos are heaven to me haha! You have such a lovely presenting style too. I have to say though that the charity shops you are in seem to have a lot more choice and good quality clothes than the ones in my area. Unfortunately there is a lot of Primark and supermarket brands which don’t wear well. Can you recommend certain areas where there are better quality shops?
For locations, I’ve actually never been to an area where I haven’t found at least one good thing! It’s a mixture of luck and timing…and knowing what to look for! I’ve been all over the UK! If your local area isn’t being successful for you, try towns around where you live. You could make a day of it and explore somewhere new. I actually find the smaller towns better than major cities as often they’re ‘over picked’. I do lots of small towns in Yorkshire (that’s where I’m from) but also some of the smaller villages of London. Good luck ♥️🥰
I love loafers especially leather ones and gold jewlrey very royal and navy blue earrings and I have pokadot silky bouse and skirt but never wear together they are both navy blue that go with solid white blouse and skirt. I think pointy shoes are pretty and I agree when you say preference I viewed a video of an american woman talking how pointy shoes are a no no, I think they are stylish with some clothing especially if your short with slacks like me.
Of course! It’s a personal preference but I find *generally* larger print florals look far more chic and upmarket. You’ll see the leading fashion houses such as D&G, Zimmerman and Oscar De La Renta often opt for larger florals over small. It’s just a generalisation but for me personally, I feel larger floral prints and designs feel more luxe in appearance ♥️🌹🥰
Are there any wedge sneakers in size 35? Well..I wear women's size 6 in USA, so not sure if size 35 would be the equivalent? What kind of disinfectant do use for earings and what kind for shoes? Exact names please. Thank you. P.S. Can you only buy only online or can you buy disinfectant in stores? What is the best one to buy?
I bought a brand new leather 3/4 black coat with all price taggs in for £135. Tried it on perfect that was 10 years ago still have it still wear it. Bargain.
Can you show the pieces front and back and hold them in place for a moment please? I really wanted to see the red silk blazer but you held it on its side for the whole time you were speaking so the viewer cant really see it properly.
Hi, I sent you a comment yesterday with some questions. You only sent a generated love your comment but did not reply with any answer to my questions. I am a senior citizen, over 60 and would appreciate if you would reply. Thank you
It did cross my mind! But I’ll still continue to share other topics that I love (luxury, travel, places, interiors) so I’m being careful not to box myself in ♥️ but I will definitely keep this series going! Thanks for the tips xx
I think nobody else does the second hand shop styling so it might be a good business idea. You are really good the way you promote and style these shops. Alll the best xx
In fact, a friend of mine works at Neiman Marcus and she says rich people buy athleisure wear while middle class people wear head to toe Louis Vuitton or Gucci! Rich people wouldn’t do this! *condup* The rich cry, but wealth whispers!

Would love to see you in the outfits you buy, maybe modelling them as an outfit at home later. ❤
Yes so would I.
Great idea!!♥️♥️ will add to my list! Thank you x
I second that! I really wanted to see the last one on her! ❤

Charity shops here in Scotland are so overpriced, and not as nice items as what you’re showing us.
I’ll try to do some in Scotland when I’m next there ☺️♥️
