    Join me in the studio as we experiment using simple art supplies and easy techniques to create textured papers. First we will take a print using bubblewrap and circles, then using matte medium we will give the tissue a more rice paper feel. Of course we can’t stop there, we will then use the handmade papers to create a beautiful collage. #mixedmediatechniques #collage #artjournal #papercollage

    Hey Froyle, really great technique! As you were doing the beehive motif, I remembered a lesson from Robyn M, where we used string (common white packaging string) on the bottom sheet, then covered it with another layer - giving it the embossed / raised surface look. I've also used more rustic types of string and other materials. Here in Brasil I haven't been able to find Seth Apner's products...and the Tim Holts sprays are rare and uber-expensive... I have used food coloring dyes and also mixed ultra-fine mica ( like Pearl-Ex ) which don't clog the pumps of the cheap plastic bottles...Calligraphy and other solvent-based inks also work as dyes either alone or diluted in water with a little alcohol!

    Love your style, love your teachings, love you!
    Quick tip for you and your followers: Do the same thing in preparing the papers EXCEPT in place of the matte medium, use PVA glue (normal school glue) which is cheaper. Add a third water like you did with the matte medium. Add some coffee for coloring if you don't have the izinks sprays and is, of course, less costly. You get the SAME result! Try it on cheesecloth, dressmaker patterns, everything.

      I have tried this, and it is amazing. The papers come out like glassine - translucent and almost waxy, and they look fabulous if you mix coffee with the glue solution. However, the papers remain extremely sticky for a while. I had laid them lightly on top of one another once they were dry, and then had a job peeling them apart. I had to do this several times and then learnt the lesson to leave them not in contact with each other at all. Several weeks on, they now seem to be OK. The matte medium would probably be better from this point of view.

    There is an artist named Nita Leland who has a short excerpt of her Artist Network video here on TH-cam, talking about this same idea. She specifies Golden's gloss medium and calls the paper "crystalline paper." Like you, I am a Liquitex Matte Medium fan, but after watching the video years ago, I became a believer in the gloss for her project. It seems likely that the differences might be because matte medium is inherently matte, because it has fillers in it. Her papers were clear and had an extra crispiness to them. All of this is either here nor there -- once it's glued down on a collage, it's not likely to make much of a difference.... unless you're like me and feel the need to knock all that shiny down with a coating of matte medium. :)

    Ok! I have been trying to figure out where to begin my adventure into your world of Collage Art. 😊😊 I need some pieces of paper to work with and this video has given me so many ideas. I have a few acrylic paint colours, plenty of tissue paper, plenty of brown paper, a few different round shapes, some bubble wrap, some jars of Matt medium, some Gesso, some paint brushes, some spray inks and some clear pouches. Should be enough to start me off. Don’t have any wallpaper but I do have some watercolour paper that I could paint and then stencil up with some texture paste. All the above has been accumulating over the past few years just waiting for this very moment in time…. I am so excited 😊😊😊😊 Thank you for your inspiration, Froyle. ❤

    I am already a student member of Skillshare. It is a great platform and I dabble now and then when I'm between projects to try something new or a bit different. I have just finished spraying some paper for journal pages and there's lots of spray bottles, bottles of ink and other bottles on my table so I tested them all out on my underpaper and love the results, all sorts of sizes and thicknesses. So excited about creating these papers. I have a drawerful of all sorts of tissue papers in all sorts of colours, plain and patterened. I can't get beehive here but I do have the polka dot one from Kami Paper. I have also tried out tissue circles on tissue paper and they worked out pretty well too but much more fiddly. Thanks for sharing. 😀

    Froyle and Friends! Thank you first, for the free month of Skillshare! Woohoo! My first question is why not utilize the hexagon on the other end of the plumbing fixture to make more authentic looking beehive? I realize that you are doing circles, which I think is your favorite shape, I guess since we keep bees, I like the hexagon shape. I love the bubble wrap papers. Sometimes I even take apart the bubble wrap insulated mailers (here is the US) to find a wee tiny bubble wrap. I am LOVING that iZinks in Honey. I am an orange loving woman anyway, so any form of orange trips my trigger!

    This tutorial was helpful and inspired me to run (not walk) down to my studio to try this technique. I had all the material (with the exception of spray ink) on hand, including white, clear and brown gesso.Bonus. Hello, you can't get much better than that unless it's FREE! I have not mastered the peeling off of the gel medium treated paper.I especially appreciated the immediate follow-up with a small collage project. I'm still working up the courage to take the next step.

    Question about your matte medium… I’m in the USA and have both fluid and gel matte medium… which is closer to your liquitex formula? I’d rather not have to buy any more! I’m thinking that the fluid form is close to your watered down variety.

    I love your classes! This one is wonderful! You have often talked about using clear plastic file folders under your papers you create so you can move the papers around without them falling apart while wet. where do you get these? Do they need to be smooth? Are these the kind of file folders you put in a drawer and are they stiff? Also - do you have a place on Amazon or somewhere with links to the tools and supplies you use? Thanks for all you do. And I LOVE your enthusiasm.!!!

    • @FroyleArt
      @FroyleArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! 😘 no I don’t have any Amazon links. I shop at Warehouse Stationary, it’s a 5 minute walk from my house! 👍🏼 They are called L shape files, clear plastic yes quite stiff! I use them to put the matte medium treatment on. Not sure where you are? But it’s an office supply shop 😍

    I like the circles whose edges smear outward. I'm a control freak and, we just don't have control over paint surprises, so it takes pressure off of me to be "perfect." I like to respond to the unpredictable surprises.

    Tasha from Treasure Books put the idea of making napkins into rice paper and curling the edges a few months ago, I also enjoyed Catherine T's tasting of making creative collage with gessoed papers.
