I started to play on the server and have had good fun. Its such a shame that the devs are butchering it. Amazing bones and there is nothing quite like it. Would love for them to bring the early gameplay back. Kind of like World of Warships.
Yeah, that was amazing. The fleet battles were fantastic but once it went open world the devs took off, made some other games, and abandoned this completely. They didn't even try.
The Devs are killing off the War & Peace servers and exclusively fund the F2P server. However, with only 450 players at peak, the F2P server is dead alrready.
I do feel you may be right that they're trying to transition entirely into free-to-play. They probably know they won't get away with wiping the old servers however, so they've taken the current approach.
I got this game a year ago before the free to play changes and the recent updates the last few months I'm glad to hear that not all the severs are going into wipes every three months. I've enjoyed playing it and want to get back into it cause I was so busy when I picked it up (I'd like to see another play through similar to your rags to riches series since all the changes) and I don't think the tutorials give you a 5th rate anymore unless I misunderstood it. Thank goodness the map isn't shrinking that would have been a bad decision in my option. I hope they see that hindering crafting is a bad ideal I get you wanting to make DLC more appealing but hindering a mechanic sounds bad I hope instead they begin to improve upon crafting instead of giving barriers or making a mechanic worse.
No game that eliminates all the work and hours of effort produced is worth playing if they then eliminate all that effort in one breath. I found out today that they eliminated all the content and effort from me this December and I no longer play from today. I repeat, no game is worth playing if they eliminate your past life

Nice vid, over all for me I cannot follow the devs logic at all. I stopped playing a few month back, the devs removed paying reels for battles and I do not have time to trade and do trading missions. I cannot make reels and that was the end for me. It can be hard to change to other games initially But I finally managed it. Hope you keep doing your vids as I think they are very helpful....... @@themandan1702 Probably not, as I suspect the devs would rather close them down and save the expense of running them. Their business model is to attract F2P players and sell them DLC (the price of which were bumped up significantly recently in order to have a 'sale' for xmas). But you are not really missing out on anything anyway atm, as the vast majority of veteran players (who still play at all) are playing the f2p now anyway. At least for now, but the situation could change.
free to play is blessing for the game but it comes with the caveat of making the game harder to craft ships. All in all a fair trade and I hope this helps the game pop. climb back up. Whether people like it or not.
Despite the PLETHORA of negative reviews for this game, I recently started playing for the first time, and I must say, I really like it. I understand some of the negatives, but there is simply no other game like this, and that is enough for me. I love sailing around with some of the other players I met and fighting npc’s, earning money, and working on our clan. I can say as somebody with a fresh set of eyes, the game is pretty great. Sure it’s not absolutely perfect but it’s fun! As for the DLC, I really don’t mind purchasing DLC ships since the game is free now, and I can use those to rank up and to be able to earn other ships that I really want to use. That’s much more fun than having to use a cutter and work my way up. And as for the resets, I don’t mind much because everyone starts fresh on the same level, preventing people from getting too overpowered and preventing others from progressing. Also, I like that it will reset conquest. This will make conquest interesting because you never know where it’ll go after the next reset. I don’t understand why so many people are saying they’re done with the game… and now they’re playing what? Not another open world, multiplayer, age of sail game set in the Caribbean.
You are right, it is still a good game. Glad you are enjoying it. The negative reviews reflect many players belief that it could have been so much better though. Having DLC is more fun yes, this is because the devs have deliberately designed it to be that way (for obvious reasons). Years ago there was an in depth crafting system and competitive ships were easier to come by (there was no DLC) by dedicated crafting players. Other aspects of the game have been simplified too, cargo weight, ship performance differences, repairs, trading, a genuine player based economy. Even the damage model was changed reducing the complexity of combat tactics. The patrol zone was implemented to manufacture battles with very high rewards to encourage battles artificially (as opposed to battles happening organically). I remember when you had to scout and plan to find where enemy activity was and organise logistics to operate there. Now you just redeem your DLC ship and teleport it to the Patrol Zone. The whole game has essentially been dumbed down and simplified. This was meant to broaden it's appeal but it has had the opposite effect. During Beta testing there were sometimes 1000's online, now it rarely reaches 400. It's still a good game yes, but it could have been an absolute classic. (imo)
Flags only be purchased from now on is specified to you need to buy the DLC for flags with your money. The Final Exam in Naval Action is hard to complete. I prefer playing the peace server because PVP players can make other players mad for attacking them without intentions.
I always wanted to try out the game, the prospect of a realistic age of sail naval combat has been alluring. But hearing about all things Devs have done to practically kill their own game over the years is disheartening (to the point where people in Steam give it a Recommended review while bashing the game and the devs just so they can be heard from the fear of being shadow banned - the only reason the recent reviews are considered "Mixed" as opposed to "Overwhelmingly Bad" I suspect). So I'll wait for a while longer, and just hope that this is just some sort of underhanded trick of the Devs "adding" back features that were taken away from the game before F2P to make ignorant newcomers think there's progress to be made and making money while they are at it.
I played before open world. It is a good game if you just want to sail and do some naval battles and don't think about it much. However everybody is disappointed because the game had a huge potential that was not realized.
what i dislike about the server selection,... i just found the game, have no way of "buying the game" anymore,... and so have no chance of getting on a permanent server. so having just started i still debate if its worth the time.

This game became pile of **** they cut off 60% or more of the gameplay in last 2 years, devs are so lazy that they dont even give ANYTHING new one rerelease 2.0 ftp. This game could became second wow or wot they already had solid game just add new ships even dlc but not copy and paste... and more features nothing big but looks that they want milk new players with lowest effort possible.
I played in 2016. I went back now that F2P is on, and on the free server. Frankly? Its not bad. Less factions concentrated around Jamacia/Cuba/Haiti/Bahamas means we actually see one another. After a wipe just hit the exams to become a 300 leadership officer again, which means a good frigate to get going. Fast travel is between outposts for the dubloons, there's no 'premium currency' that I'm aware of... it feels fine. Very doable. Just don't join Britain if you can help it; its a touch overpopulated. Spread the newbies out.
Everytime i checkout news about this game i see people saying how it now sucks xD and i see that year after year. Well at least its now free.... but i might just play the OG Xbox version from 2003.
As far as I can tell there is currently no way for people who started playing after the game went F2P to log into the War or Peace servers; it's likely this is to encourage people to play on the new wipe server and rely more on DLC ships. This is a pretty awful policy, but I'm afraid the developers have a long history of making bad choices.
Personally, I'd fix the issue you raise by having two servers; one that resets every 6 months and has the safe zones, and another with no safe zones that never resets.
Naval Action is quite like Elite: Dangerous, both have good core gameplay, had plenty of potential.
And both were screwed over by the devs : )

How do i join a server that isn't the carribean main? its the only server i can select but i dont want to have my progress wiped.
Only those that purchased the game can access war and peace servers. They are entirely separate though, no danger of wiping progress

no one plays the other servers anyway, even before free 2 play they were basically dead

I think only one server has been made free-to-play so far. You'll have to buy the game to play the other two servers unfortunately.
