The mentioned $20,600 price of the car, is only in China. Most Chinese cars (in Europe at least) tend to see prices that are roughly 80% more expensive than their Chinese prices. So in The Netherlands for example, the @20,600 would become roughly $37,000.
I'm not sure what the US and AUS prices usually are compared to the Chinese pricing, but I bet it's a good chunk higher as well :)

IF there is no current battery technology break thru, the range of EV range = how many batteries EV has in the car. Simple math. Don't over thinking.
Just like gas engine, the bigger the gas tank, the longer the range you could have.

We should have own manufacturing sector but with britishvolt under there is no appetite for investment especially that we are out of EU. Hope there will be some sort of deal between EU UK and other nations in Europe that we could work together to manufacture high end goods like EV-s. • @Oompa_Output

@gregkramer5588 every Tesla since at least 2016 has the robotic ability to self drive. This, of course, is limited and disabled by the software for legal reasons... but when FSD arrives, now 95% of nearly 5 million built Tesla cars have robotic functionality. Hyundai has the edge because... they bought Boston dynamics... yeah, see if you think that in two more years. Only Tesla has built 5 MILLION robotic vehicles. Not even industrial robotics companies have produced this many.... Now as for FSD, only one company gets 60 million miles of training data daily from their fleet, only one company has millions of daily miles testing FSD, supervised, mind you. Only one company has designed and has Fabricated their own super GPU, to speed the learning. Only one company has built its own Gen 4 neuralnet chip in production, not prototype... Want to hazard a guess....

We anticipate the US HQ will move here with the common EV platform. We already have Korean Barbecue chains, what are they waiting for?

Work backwards from 1 to 2 years from now, they must have standardized to a much greater degree across brands, greatly reduced production costs, found really good AI programmers, or not survive. Motormouth just interviewed 2 Hyundai Ionic 5 owners who had their cars totaled for battery damage. The replacement cost from Hyundai Canada dealers was over $61,000 Canadian versus the original cost of the car which was in the lower 50’s? They both ran over something and damaged the undercarriage protection panel. Insurance company totaled both cars. I encourage everyone to watch these videos on Motormouth. EV’s are good in theory but in an accident or in the case of the Ionic 5’s that were totaled by insurance, not worth it especially in cold winter areas.

level 2+ = 10+KW charge rate? Level 2 chargers real charging capabilities are as much as 50A nowadays (for 60A breakers). x240V = 12 KW. They may have level 2+ capabilities but it doesnt mean most people will be able to use with most using 50A breakers (charge limited to 42A = 10 KW). another limit in AC charging is the car inverter capabilities with some cars only handling up to 8 KW. The first EVs were only able to handle 3200 to 3600 W standard so this would be helpfuil. But the interesting thing toi know would be their DC charging capabilities as superchargers usually deliver 110 KW or up toi 250 KW for big vehicles.

$21.000 in China will be around €40.000 in the EU.
When it has the same increase as all the other Chinese cars that came to Netherlands. Those almost doubled in price from China $ to EU €.
Seems a little to big and heavy car for that 700km, so indeed with that 60kWh battery pack around 450 to 500km.
To me, just an other large and boring 4 door EV, that for €44k, is like unobtainium for the masses.
Lets see if that will realy be below $25k when it hits the EU. Want to bet?
So far, the only EV in the B segment cars, with a 300km range that stayed below €25.000 is the Citroën ë-C3.
A good and affordable €23k EV that, on this channel, is not spoken about.

Selling a few thousand(s) of these at that price sure generates headlines... free publicity to offset any (real) losses!
Even it it comes in at $40,000 for U.S. sale, it is still an attractive price with very little competition in the Electric mini-van segment.
Which - EV mini-vans - I think will be THE HUGE future EV segment, you still see 20+ year old Chevy Astros on the road,
but with an EV you will have even better reliability and far less maintenance and (fuel) costs

Depending on what the "real" overall range is for this, it might trump their EV9. The EV9's range is practically a joke for that size...they needed to up the size of their packs and/or have this blade battery in it. Without it I'd think the Ev5 would be the better choice, though it would be smaller than the EV9...but let's see I guess?
P.S. i predict the EV9 is a flop, had me and wifey and other family/friends waiting and the range alone/battery made us all cancel, oh well

If KIA can get something like this to Europe at about the same price point, only adding European VAT, it surely would be game changing. China does have 10% VAT if I remember correctly, but I suspect that KIA does like VW, keeping the prices artificially low in China just to stay in the market and is counting on doubling the price in EU.
I don't see the advantage of staying in a market were you loose money, essentially letting the rest of the world subsidize cars for the Chinese consumers that is more and more getting more nationalistic, shunning European and American products for domestic.
Withdraw from the Chinese market and let them compete and kill off each other or do the necessary consolidation instead of making the cars more expensive elsewhere. In the end the Chinese will take over all production in China otherwise, all the partners get killed off and the production capacity becomes all Chinese, after that the rest of the world can kiss another sector goodbye just like we've seen with so many other products that is possibly designed elsewhere but all made in China.
That would kill off everything but design, possibly some engineering and service sector and that heavily dominated by black or grey market cheap imported labour, often working without a proper contract.

Oh Sam, this is where so many EV sceptics start ripping this stuff apart. Headline - 700km range, then you say real world 500km WLTP, but real world is typically 35% less than WLTP, making actual range 335km. Take off 25km safety margin to find charger/aggressive driving, and you're now talking 310km! We're now way below 50% of the headline figure, and to top it off, this is 'best speculation'. As much as I like your news and views, this is all fantasy. I long for the day there's a genuine 700km range, but it's not today!

It has become tiring to hear of Chinese prices for EVs. From what I read, they don't include all charges and taxes to put the car in the road, as car prices advertised in Europe must do (excluding modest delivery charges such as number plates, etc.). I might as well say an iPhone costs $100 plus just $1000 iOS fee to allow you to activate it. What are the regulations about car price advertising in Australia? Do you really expect this car to reach Australia for anything like this headline price?
