Not really sure if saying that an ICE vehicle sounds like the engine is going to fall apart when warming up is not even remotely accurate IMO. But your video and yeah I am an EV fan as well...
One pedal driving is reset in order to maximize efficiency. In all other modes, if you are doing a constant speed (like highway) it can actually disengage the front motor to reduce resistance. But if you have one pedal set, it cannot do this and that motor stays engaged. This is mainly why it resets each time.
@@SammyGeek It's very silly but they have to keep the "default" at level 3 to achieve certain efficiency levels for EPA testing. The one pedal is less efficient in the EPA testing and because they want the most efficient test it can't remain as the default otherwise it must be tested that way.
@@jisc0you have to flip the left paddle once when you turn on the car every time to enable the max braking-level regen. It defaults to level 3 which is a lot of regen still, but not a dead stop; with this car the iPedal max level braking isn’t the most efficient because they have to enable both motors to be running to use it with the AWD. The lower levels are more efficient and not having regen on can be efficient depending on conditions as well. The steering wheel paddles control regen levels so it’s pretty simple to switch as needed and there is also an auto setting.
Great review. I have decided to purchase one, but I am waiting for the end of the year special sales event. As this will be my first EV, I find myself watching reviews like yours to get a better feel for my decision.
This may not be an apple to apples comparison based on past to present, but with the Model Y, Rivian, and EV9, can you let me know in terms of insurance, what was most cheapest to most expensive? Thanks!
Excellent video Sammy and thank you so much for sharing your experiences but isn't the Kia EV9 itself a first-generation EV? Or is it built on the same platform as the EV6?
Not as convenient as Teslas network, but a few are open for public use around me... As far as price, that's relative. If you want a proper 3rd row EV with 5000 pound towing what is your cheaper option?
@captainmakai Yep, same here...I have a couple Tesla chargers nearby that I can use to charge this truck. Network of public chargers is not too bad around my area either.
9 หลายเดือนก่อน
@@captainmakaiThe US has two separate connectors.... NACS and CCS1.
Have you charge this thing on a Tesla supercharger? What is the rate of charge on it? Is it still having issue like the Ev6 where it only charge under 100kw?
Proud owner of Ocean Blue Land and loved everything about this car, and I am coming from many MDX and Q7, I took a test drive Y a with my friends and within 5 minute I handed over the RC toy car with iPad back to my friend. I hated Tesla Y. I will never ever ever ever buy a Tesla. Remember the outlet device in EV9 Frunk, for 5 days, I could not figure out what it is lol, it is basically, hou can power on your house, your camper or even charge another EV. Brilliant!. the few things I am very skeptical about Ev9. 1). walk away lock, I have never locked my previous cars by touching the lock on handle and don't understand why did Kia left it, EV9 is one of the few cars with Apple's Digital Key but no walk away locking? 2). why not include manual key inside the fob, it is a separate key and Social media is full of driver being stranded due to 12V battery died and without it, you can not unlock the vehicle and only way you can get in the vehicle to open the frunk to get to battery terminal is via manual key and guess what it is not with you, it was stored else where because you thought why do I need to carry a key or even fob when I have got Apple's digital key and Kia connect app. lol. I found this scenario very scary and to avoid , not being in this situation, I bought a very small magnetic key box and hide it underneath frame with manual key and wrap that box with good quality water proof duct tape, just in case and bought a 12 battery jump box from Costco, charged it and put it in trunk. as you said in your video about vehicle doesn't keep your iPedal setting, I think it does but up to lvl1 and lvl 2 not lvl 3 which is iPedal. To be honest as I am coming from maxima, MDX and Q7 and my 80-90% driving use to be based on pedal shifter, I hardly use to drive with normal way. which gave me a a very good practice, give it a try, you will love it. I mainly drive EV9 on express way with lvl 0, so car simply glides on exp way with very minimal pressure from my feet, but as soon i am on the ramp to exit the exp way, i go on left paddle shifter to lvl1 and then 2 and in case I need to bring the vehical to complete stop, I will go on lvl3 and without touching break I can go on and on like this, I am glad I have manual button or paddle shifter to control regen, not like Tesla, which I think once you enable on ipad lol, it is always on, unless you got o car setting in iPad and toggle it off. I also heard if you are using regen all the time, you might gain few extra miles on every trip but because of the drag on wheel rolling, it shorten the life of tires. Not sure. by the way I saw you use android so Apple key is not an option for you, i dont even need my phone to unlock or drive the EV9, my Apple Watch is more than enough. Sorry for long comment, I am just too excited about EV9, by the way if not done, buy Avalon Diamond G.O.A.T ceramic coating (DIY) but must clean the car with isopropyl spray, my car is super hydrophobic, nothing stay on my car paint
One pedal dry takes too much energy if you have an all wheel drive because two motors are running instead of one. Otherwise, I like having the choice of various levels of regen
I've been driving EVs for almost a decade and I prefer two pedal operations and coasting a lot. On our old RAV4 EV, we have a breaking drive mode, that we can switch into and out of for a more regenerative one pedal operation that I appreciate. Thanks for your review.
I respectfully disagree. One major issue I was shocked you did not cover in your review is the regen functionality. In other EV's regen is ALWAYS on and just completely kills the driving experience when you really don't need the additional range. In fact, when I drove the R1S, the nose of the Rivian dipped hard every time I took my foot of the accelerator (like I was slamming on the brakes) creating a very annoying jerky feeling while driving. The EV9 lets YOU choose what level of regen you want - from level 0 (none) to level 4 (high)...In the Tesla and Rivian you CANNOT choose - WHY is it always on? Level 0 driving in the Kia is unbelievably smooth. Total DEAL KILLER - for this reason alone I would choose the Kia over both.
@aneshmehta7144 Great feedback, but in my case I can control the throttle perfectly, and don't fully let off unless I need full regen. The solution is let the customer choose and stay in that setting.
I want to trade MY for this so badly but I'm nervous about the EA network and Kia's software... That one pedal driving thing you mentioned at the end would drive me INSANE!
6 year Tesla owner, traded it for a Renault Scenic here in the U.K. an awesome new EV. Tesla is now having real competition, and its offer here in the U.K. is now too expensive for what’s on offer (they are much more than in the USA).
too me if you want a full size suv this is what you buy i love the look and size i keep my old acura mdx just to have but i like driving the cross over's more cuz you can drive more aggressive my model y handels better than my bmw 3 series i had and I love the instant tourqe and the way it handles yet you still have so much room for storage
About the app…if you keep this car for over 3 years Hyundai charges you a yearly fee to use remote start etc. it’s about $300-$400 a year for the “connectivity” it’s total BS.
just got my kia ev9 gt in black two months ago! i absolutely love it, i truly feel like its better than the tesla model x. in my opinion the ev9 looks better than its competitors (Tesla model X, Volvo EX90, Mercedes EQS, Rivian R1S).
This is the globally the only real big SUV EV. And it is awesome. We don't get Rivian to Europe and Tesla is so much different I don't count it. I am currently with Rav4 prime but will need bigger car in future. Likely waiting for Land cruiser EV because Toyota experience has been very good. Toyota has 10y and 350tkm battery warranty in Europe
Your comment about preferring to manually keep distance is so funny to me. I think I’m the opposite and prefer adaptive cruise control and maintaining far distance on the highway and manually keeping in the lane, though this car seems to be good at keeping in lane drivers in LA don’t care about lane lines and will side swipe you no problem.
I went to kia dealer to lease ev9 i checked 3 units and they all had something not working i loved the car but i cant take something with broken parts from the get go it was not a good sign so i left without leasing but i loved the car but i guess it was not for me from God he gave me a wrong signal tell me guys did i do right or wrong when specially i bought kia once before and it turns into lemon law claim
Love Tesla technology! Been wishing for real RV not the X, although nice. Elon should have put out EV instead of cybortruck! Big market and progression mistake!
Sammy Sammy, come on, I have been driving a Tesla for 5 years, as good as new and with OTA upgrades it is now even better. To start with the KIA EV9 cost at least $20.000 more than a Tesla Model 3 or Y. Its weight is a waking over 700 LBS more. Its 0 to 60 MPH is much slower, its top speed is 25 MPH less, and its electric consumption cost you around 30% more, while its crash test proves that it is nowhere as safe as the Tesla. Now I have a question to ask, since you are so knowledgeable on cars, perhaps you owe us an explanation, and tell us why you punished yourself, was it for money? or some other obscure reason?
You left out the part the the tesla is a boring jelly bean , in comparison who cares about the horsepower over function and design? Tesla's looks old school compared to almost every other ev especially the kia.
In some alternate universe this may have made sense but the Model Y was the best selling vehicle in the world in 2023 & will likely do the same in 2024. Also the safest car in the world btw.
Pro and con of EV9 and Model Y Pro Look good and built quality Low energy consumption, best auto pilot software, super charge network, nimple and good road handling well know for good safety records, impressive 0-60 speed, best software, longer range, lower price than most competitors. Con High energy consumption, not as good auto pilot, Too many of them on the road no super charge network, feel big and not numble, unknow safety records, slow 0-60, short range battery,
It’s interesting that on every single Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis EV forum, everyone has been complaining about the issue you mentioned of the regen turning off when you turn the car off or when you go into reverse for two years now. So far, the Hyundai Motor Group, parent of these companies, has not done anything about that. They’ve finally started to address the lack of wireless CarPlay, but have yet to make that retroactive to older models in the U.S. hopefully they will do so.
Thanks! X is cool, but a little outdated and looked a little silly towing a big pontoon. Also, I really wanted to try something other than another Tesla.
I would miss so many things replacing my Tesla. Like efficiency, low cost maintenance, netflix, yt, disney+, fsd, eaze of use (profiles vs. outdated KIA 2 profile memory seats) and so much more. Don't get me wrong, KIA does a good job and has good standard warranty like Tesla. But it feels just old in so many ways.
@@mercury683 If that was the case, no one would buy a Tesla in Arizona or Australia. I remember seeing a test that showed only marginal temperature difference between the tinted Tesla glass roof and a metal roof. Since you can remotely cool the interior down, it's no problem anwyway.
@kafiluz4317 but that is what their complaints are mostly about, that it gets really hot in summer.....my car windows are tinted and I still get hot when the sun shines on it, imagine the sun beating down on the whole roof
Same actions as me with Cybertruck and canceled my order. Looking at leasing a R1S now for 2 years and see where things are at then. EV9 is my second but storage concerns. Tired of Tesla's lack of interior and cabin features.
i could never drive this with having to remember to turn on one pedal driving i bought a model y and never had a problem i feel like one pedal makes way more sense dont understand why they act like people need to get used to it press to go ease off to stop
I'm surprised you can't turn on heated and cool seats on your app. I own a 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid SX Prestige and I have the option to turn on the heated and cool seat and heated steering wheel when I start the car. The option to turn on the heated windshield which the Sportage hybrid has isn't available but defrost is available.
I just traded in my model 3 for an i5. I can’t get over the difference in quality and comfort. We are now trading in my wife’s model y for a hybrid Tiguan as the Y feels so cheap and rattles and squeaks so bad that it’s unbearable on long journeys
I usually don't drive over 200 miles a day, and I just charge in my garage every couple days. Man, people must drive a lot every day when 250 miles of range is an issue.

Man, my last ICE truck sounded rough when I didn't let it warm up enough in Minnesota, haha.
That Kia interior is way ahead of Tesla's
I enjoy them both, but yep, totally different!
Buttons everywhere, no thanks!
No doubt!
@@laezbuttons are way better than only a touchscreen.
One pedal driving is reset in order to maximize efficiency. In all other modes, if you are doing a constant speed (like highway) it can actually disengage the front motor to reduce resistance. But if you have one pedal set, it cannot do this and that motor stays engaged. This is mainly why it resets each time.
Still, they shouldn't mess with that...but I can see why they do.
@@SammyGeek It's very silly but they have to keep the "default" at level 3 to achieve certain efficiency levels for EPA testing. The one pedal is less efficient in the EPA testing and because they want the most efficient test it can't remain as the default otherwise it must be tested that way.
@@MilesSzkodais this still the case? I think that may be a deal breaker for me.
@@MilesSzkoda tesla Model X has it on all the time and it’s more efficient.
The EV9 . Has to be the most impressive car there! Much better looking than a boring Tesla.
Great review. How quite is the interiors and suspension.
Interior is very nice! Quality is super top notch
Amazing SUV, congrats!
So far, so good!
Great review. I have decided to purchase one, but I am waiting for the end of the year special sales event. As this will be my first EV, I find myself watching reviews like yours to get a better feel for my decision.
Look into the charging network. Not just the car though. That’s my one big issue.
Hmm, is'nt Tesla open for everyone? Only an Adaptor is needed...in Europe not even this, since CSS2 is Standard even for Teslas @@a124as
This may not be an apple to apples comparison based on past to present, but with the Model Y, Rivian, and EV9, can you let me know in terms of insurance, what was most cheapest to most expensive? Thanks!
Oh man, I'd have to check records but the Kia was not as cheap as I thought!
Great review! What color is this?
Pebble Gray, I think they call it...
Excellent video Sammy and thank you so much for sharing your experiences but isn't the Kia EV9 itself a first-generation EV? Or is it built on the same platform as the EV6?
The only downside for this car is the public charging network - CCS1! And of course the price!
Not as convenient as Teslas network, but a few are open for public use around me... As far as price, that's relative. If you want a proper 3rd row EV with 5000 pound towing what is your cheaper option?
What’s the deal with American charging? In the UK some Tesla chargers can be used by other cars now too.
@captainmakai Yep, same here...I have a couple Tesla chargers nearby that I can use to charge this truck. Network of public chargers is not too bad around my area either.
@@captainmakaiThe US has two separate connectors.... NACS and CCS1.
Great review. Was it easy to remove the Kia badge off the back? Can the same be done on the front?
Back comes off but would leave holes...
Have you charge this thing on a Tesla supercharger? What is the rate of charge on it? Is it still having issue like the Ev6 where it only charge under 100kw?
Not yet...I need to try it!
Nice video and car. 100% agree on the throttle adjust while using lane keep.
Nice. What are the interior and exterior colors?
Pebble gray and brown/black interior.
I agree. Default ONE PEDAL DRIVING, KIA.
100%...they really need to update this ASAP. Killing the experience.
@@SammyGeek When I test drove the EV9, it defaulted to 1 pedal driving when I started the car. Is it possible there is a setting for this?
It doesn't default to 1 pedal under any circumstance. You likely bumped the paddle. 😢 Single biggest reason I won't keep this truck.
IMHO, smart move! Congratulations 👏
It's rock solid so far!
We’re thinking of trading our X for an EV9 or R1S. The x just feels so small and cheap, plus we can’t use that 3rd row really
For a family, the EV9 is just much more practical car. The model X was something special but for family, traditional design just works better.
too me if you want a full size suv this is what you buy i love the look and size i keep my old acura mdx just to have but i like driving the cross over's more cuz you can drive more aggressive my model y handels better than my bmw 3 series i had and I love the instant tourqe and the way it handles yet you still have so much room for storage
The Kia EV9 is definitely better if you need a bigger car.
Soon the Cadillac Vistiq will be here for more luxurious competition.
Yeah, I saw that! Lightyears out of my league.
About the app…if you keep this car for over 3 years Hyundai charges you a yearly fee to use remote start etc. it’s about $300-$400 a year for the “connectivity” it’s total BS.
They won't get away with that forever. Competition will force them to capitulate.
Interesting!
Have they changed how the one pedal driving setting goes away?
you mentioned you didn't want to get into a first gen vehicle.. isn't this first gen?
Haha, good point...I meant for the Rivian.
How’s it going now 4 months later? Do you find yourself hopping into the Tesla or the EV 9 when you have a choice?
The only thing I don't like is not being able to get 7 seats in the GT Line model.
just got my kia ev9 gt in black two months ago! i absolutely love it, i truly feel like its better than the tesla model x.
in my opinion the ev9 looks better than its competitors (Tesla model X, Volvo EX90, Mercedes EQS, Rivian R1S).
You forgot to mention the Kia starting msrp is like 15k more than the model Y
Great review but the pre hearing ur ar is also known as remote start on a gas engine!!!
Great breakdown.
Great video traded in a 2024 bmw 5 series hybrid for the EV9 same colour 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
Very nice!
Ev9 look great. Is it a w d
Looks like a great vehicle - my only concern would be charging on a road trip (admittedly I'd home charge 95% of the time) but my wife would love it
Yeah, same goes for any non Tesla...I hear ya.
Love Tesla technology! Been wishing for real RV not the X, although nice. Elon should have put out EV instead of cybortruck! Big market and progression mistake!
Man, I have to agree!
What was the cost of the vehicle
Not MSRP, I can tell ya that!
I needed a truck for towing and wanted a bigger vehicle while I wait for my Cybertruck.
Pro and con of EV9 and Model Y
Pro Look good and built quality Low energy consumption, best auto pilot software, super charge network, nimple and good road handling
well know for good safety records, impressive 0-60 speed, best software, longer range, lower price than most
competitors.
Con High energy consumption, not as good auto pilot, Too many of them on the road
no super charge network, feel big and not numble,
unknow safety records, slow 0-60, short range battery,
Good thoughts!
How are you able to type with your hands so tightly wrapped around Elon's schlong?????
Can the EV9 use the Tesla Home Charger?
It’s interesting that on every single Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis EV forum, everyone has been complaining about the issue you mentioned of the regen turning off when you turn the car off or when you go into reverse for two years now. So far, the Hyundai Motor Group, parent of these companies, has not done anything about that. They’ve finally started to address the lack of wireless CarPlay, but have yet to make that retroactive to older models in the U.S. hopefully they will do so.
What model ev9 is that?
Gt line
Smart man, the Model X is more more expensive too.
Thanks! X is cool, but a little outdated and looked a little silly towing a big pontoon. Also, I really wanted to try something other than another Tesla.
@@SammyGeek I really think the Koreans are on top of the EV game, there's the Chinese too, but we don't know enough about them.
Nothing looks good towing a pontoon
Hahaha best comment ever! Lmao😂@Mynameisgus94
Model X, outdated??
I would miss so many things replacing my Tesla. Like efficiency, low cost maintenance, netflix, yt, disney+, fsd, eaze of use (profiles vs. outdated KIA 2 profile memory seats) and so much more. Don't get me wrong, KIA does a good job and has good standard warranty like Tesla. But it feels just old in so many ways.
But if you can't afford a Model X and need a vehicle that tows 5000 pounds with a 3rd row (space), your choices are limited.
Tesla gets too hot in summer due to the bad design of the whole roof being glass like wtf
Did I miss the price you paid for this EV9 ?
no he doesn't say
I didn't say because there's some variables. I did a short lease this go round.
Same actions as me with Cybertruck and canceled my order. Looking at leasing a R1S now for 2 years and see where things are at then. EV9 is my second but storage concerns. Tired of Tesla's lack of interior and cabin features.
Yeah....they lost me with the Cybertruck marketing project.
I do like the EV 9, sans the million buttons. Model X for me with the same towing capabilities and way better kiddo loading and entertainment!
I did the same thing ın my country Turkıye but my EV9 AWD select DC charging ports which is ınacceptable
Charging infrastructure. Also, new charging standard..... Downside to any other car but Tesla at the moment.
100%
So you didn’t traded in the tesla! Huh? WTH tesla doing next to EV9?
Ha, mentioned in the beginning...that's my Wife's!
Lol got ya!
i could never drive this with having to remember to turn on one pedal driving i bought a model y and never had a problem i feel like one pedal makes way more sense dont understand why they act like people need to get used to it press to go ease off to stop
It's freaking annoying.
im going to get one next year for sure once they build this thing in USA to get those fed credits with NACS port.
100%
Thought I saw them doing a 7500 credit
I love the interior color. 👍
EV9 is way better except in aerodynamic.😊😊
It's more efficient than I thought which is good so far.
Excellent vehicle I have the Ev9 and Ev6
Nice!
Right! It seems so silly. I'm hoping they update it soon before winter is over haha.
I did the same thing in Turkıye but my EV)9 AWD GT line is selectıng DC charge statıon which is ınacceptable
I like it:) Don't like dealers at all so that stops me dead in my tracks:(
Trust me, I hear ya, hahaha. My dealer was shockingly good.
Shout out to the dealership!
I liked your vid. Thanks
What do you do for work to afford all those awesome cars?!
Years and years of saving and equity!

Maybe take off the tesla hat and hoodie (and banner) when doing a kia video. 🤷♂ Great video though. 😎
I just traded in my model 3 for an i5. I can’t get over the difference in quality and comfort. We are now trading in my wife’s model y for a hybrid Tiguan as the Y feels so cheap and rattles and squeaks so bad that it’s unbearable on long journeys
I love the Rivian r1s. Just too expensive
If i was not anti electric I'd consider getting one
Nice video bro. Coming from a MYP owner. Wouldn’t trade it 😅
Yeah if I didn't need a bigger truck, I'd stick with the Model Y.
You aren’t gonna say how
Amazing the interior is ? Tesla isn’t even 10 miles close
1:02 Poor Tesla...the Kia made it look like a joke 😂
R1s is larger and more luxurious than an ev9
Did you see my Rivian video? Also, agreed, but it's much more expensive. This Kia is a hell of a vehicle.
Does Ev9 have FSD?
Autonomia e o problema dis carros electricos....530 klms por carregamento e pouco
