A few things from someone who has owned this machine.
1). 'Pull' a blank shot of water to warm the grouphead for optimum brewing temp.
2). A 1:2 ratio of espresso to time is standard. You can program this machine to deliver an ~ 30-35 ml shot over 30-35 seconds.
3). Tamp the espresso on the counter making sure the tamp is level not exceeding 'Max'. IIRC the double shot basket holds 14 grams
4). Don't up/down the pitcher on the steam wand, Start like you did and gradually lower the wand to break the bubbles and create microfoam.
5). Tap the frothed milk pitcher on the counter to break large bubbles.
6). Swirl the pitcher of frothed milk to merge the layers first, then pour.

I am happy with the machine too. I don't know how it compares with other espresso makers on the market in the same budget range. and also this is my first espresso maker.
In my opinion, the programming of the shot volumes is major headache. It is not that easy. It has taken me months to learn how to master this machine. And i find it anything but easy to use. Aside from that i must say that I just made american(nish )(latte) coffee with freshly bought flour and it honestly was a taste of paradise. 😂
To froth the milk i dont use the espresso wand, i think the best method is to froth BOILINGg milk pumping it VIGOROUSLY up and downe using the PISTON inside a FRENCH PRESS.
To program this machine, dont use the instructions. At least, my instruction book has errors and using the procedure described there doesnt work. Rather watch the videos that Gevi (the manufacturer) made. And even then, good luck with that. Use the scale to measure the shot volume and stop (it was a long time ago and i forgot how many grams before) and i believe u stop 20 Mililiters (1g=1ml) before. If you want 60 ml, stop around 40 (though i forgot exactly, i am not sure how accurate that number is and i recommend u explore on your own) thus, it is major headache. Good luck

How have you liked the machine? We used to have a delonghi and it broke after 5 years. We are now looking at this since it's only $160 on amazon prime or the gaggia classic but that one is $400 right now on prime

Thank you!!!!! I was searching for this!!
One question- it does that loud rhythmic sound while you froth the milk, yes? Mine does and it’s making me unsure.

My usual coffee drink is an Americano, not a latte, so I'm asking if after pulling two shots of espresso I would be able to pull four shots of hot water for my 2:1 water/espresso ratio. I'd rather do that than having to heat water of the stove top if not necessary.
    Thanks!

If you turn on the steam wand during espresso mode, shouldn't it shoot out hot water instead of steam? That's how most espresso machines work
