Here is a new video we made testing different color braided lines underwater: th-cam.com/video/Ds-yqvoejis/w-d-xo.html&lc=z22gjr05hkrocnr0aacdp432pvmbrkm2xhqfplgz12dw03c010c
Unless the water where you fish is crystal clear I do not think it makes a difference. Where I fish. the Delaware river and the Jersey shore the water is stained and has a great deal if debre in it. So in my opinion the fish are used to seeing junk in the water so the line does not bother them.
Enjoyed this video a lot. Your explanations made sense. Have gone to Hi-vis yellow braid, clear mono & floracarbon, & Yozuri disappearing pink for my line needs. Will pay attention to more of your videos in the future. THANKS !!!
+Reel Hazardous If you're feeling especially motivated you could do a knot strength test with various popular knots on both braided and mono, lines to lures, lines to other lines, etc...
I consider that white color is the best for topwater game. Because you could see the two big company in Japan, YGK and Varivas, their long casting series adopt white color mainly. That totally explains what color is the best braid for topwater. Although Varivas' most expensive casting line is grey, it claims it is stealth. Hope one day you could test the line's visibility.
Very helpful, thanks. I think one of the big factors into colors is how many times a fish has been caught & released. They may associate a particular line or lure with a very painful poke in the mouth. I will say, though, my grandson's first try at fishing caught a largemouth with several lip tears from previous catches, and it grabbed at a simple grub like it was candy.
Great video, went fishing day before grouper season closed in Fl. My buddy and I using same rig, egg slider stopped by swivel and a 4ft fluorocarbon leader with size 7 hook using Sardines hooking them the same way…In an hour he caught about 12 me ZERO then I realize the only difference was I had braid to my swivel he had clear mono. Changed over to my other rig with white/clear mono and whalla fish on almost immediately. We were fishing about 3 ft. from bottom. Caught 20 plus groupers and only 3 keepers….Cheers
Fluorocarbon line generally does very well against a background of nothing. Fluorocarbon isn't invisible, it's just clear as the same amount of light passes through it as does water, so in empty water it is clear however it's not see through and that shows up contrasting against objects like grass or rock. Still relatively clear but since background colors doesn't pass through it as well as light there is a distinctive line contrasting the color difference. I'm guessing that's also why it shows up in the murky water, as it's not clear and has enough color of its own to be a contrast. That, or the gunk on the water made it darker causing the light to make it appear brighter but thats probably not the cause as less light in general would effect the light hitting the line as well.
A similar study was done for sake of choosing colors on jigs. Blue & green show up the most to the deepest depth red is lost past 60 ft deep. When you want it to attract get a UV version which fish see in. I use seaguar pink (less expensive) 60 lb test just 6 ft long double dropper loop rig swivel snapped to about 15 more ft of same which I FG at hm to braid which is moss green pwr pro max quatro 50 lb. The heavier ldr is for ling teeth & chafe protection with rocky bottom. Just bought 2 spools of a very interesting line - FINS 40G line in 65 lb & 45 lb they break at 80 lbs & 60 respectively. Crazy thin - more capacity on your reel. They have white moss green, chartreuse & blue.
this is only accurate in regards to how "we" are seeing these lines. fish see totally different than we do, they see with UV as well. shine a UV light on your lines, you may be VERY shocked at the results.
Once again the fluoro (first and third from the right) lines are no less visible than the mono line (second and fourth from the right) in most light conditions. When they say "Fluoro caches more", I think they must mean catches $$ from anglers. Search youtube for on fluoro test : do you see a host of manufacturers demonstrating how their fluoro is less visible than mono? NO - you see hardly any such videos, and when you do they are nowhere near thorough and from various angles. This fact says it all.
Clear mono has worked for over 50 years and still works great today. That's all i use. The bait you're using and how you present it is most important. I agree flouro is a gimmick just like red line, although I love using red line for backing
From a fish's perspective I don't think color of line matters much, they don't have the capacity to think, "hey, there's a human trying to catch me on the other end!" Color of bait matters, somedays more, somedays less.
Klay Kracka I tend to agree, but I have noticed a difference in fresh water with walleye going to lighter fluro, now that may be cause it changes fall rate or action of lure over visibility, not sure
Years before mono lines their were lines of woven material, either white lines, black lines and white with black stripes....Look at the old pictures of the fisherman with massive catches....Any questions?
Robert That was back before the waters were over fished. The population is larger and the demographics are different. In the last couple out decades there have been large numbers of people coming from asia, haiti, Pacific Islands, the Caribbeans, cuba.... These countries traditionally consume a lot of fish (weather they fish or support commercial fishing operations). Fish are smaller and less numerous then in grandpa's day.
Excelent vid! Just what i was looking for! Its incredible how there are so many different colors of lines and specialy braided and no body talks about it! 🤔😎 thanks 4 sharing! ✌
In stained water, I like the Mr Crappie hi vis, and the low vis Red Cajun, being able to see my line clear as day has gotten me out of a lot of snags. I'll see my line kind of start to tense up and stop moving before I even feel my snag, slack line it for a couple seconds and give it some featherlight pops and it comes right out the snag at least 90 percent of the time. It makes me feel like a boss when I'm bridge fishing heavy cover and getting snagged up way less than the people next to me 😎.
What about yellow? Noticed in 2 videos you didn't bring it up good or bad. I picked up a new ultralight came with yellow, stands out bad to me bit can't figure if things aren't biting or if they see the line, advice?
I’ve used some bright green which works well. I would think that’s similar to yellow but I’ll have to take some yellow on the next dive trip. Are you using any leader?
Does anyone use any Kastking braided and monofilament fishing line? For Kastking monofilament (Superior Fishing Line) has Black Mamba, Chrome Blue, Ice Clear, Mountain Green, Pink Shocker, Rebel Red, and Sunrise Yellow. For Kastking braided (Mega 8) has Blue, Grass Green, Gray, and Yellow. Which colors of both Kastking monofilament and braided fishing line for both Saltwater and Freshwater and hard to be seen underwater?
I had a shark bite me at 80’ underwater while scuba diving. Red blood appears black it does not become invisible! It cracks me up when I hear red disappears underwater. It’s the opposite it has the most contrast.
Dang, sorry about the shark bite. Yeah that is a funny myth about red. It’s interesting though, I have a couple plastic pieces that are still red down deep but all the naturally red stuff turns dark.
-Throw high visibility line and fish don't like it, resulting in no fish. -Throw high visibility line and fish like the color, resulting in catching more fishes. -Is it catch22? or is it reverse catch22??
First, thanks for sharing this, great info:) But I have to ask. I fish after Nordic salmon in saltwater, the water is blue\green and have some brown seaweed etc. I fish in the top water layer (i guess it is maximum 10 meters deep to the bottom). I am fishing in the shoreline throwing my fishing lure. Will a good choice for me be GREEN braid like Power Pro? Also if i want to use fluorocarbon leader, is the PINK color the best choice here? Do you have a brand you recommend etc for that?
I think green line would be good but I am going to do some more test with braid soon and I'll let you know what I find. I found pink hardest to see even in green water but clear flouro is good too. I used yo-zuri pink flourocarbon line in the test but I would think most flourocarbon pink lines would work well.
So what's more important?....for us to be able to see the line?...(so we can untangle from others lines, etc.?)....or.... for the fish to not be able to see the line?
My cousin and I were catching Walleye at night last fall in clear water. He was using Red Cajun line and I was using Clear Fluorocarbon. He out fished me 3 to 1. Same bait same presentation same rod and same reel... In my opinion. Fish don't see color they way we do. At all. ✌️🎣
Thanks for the feedback Dylan. It seems like some days they care and some they don't. I've seen days where they would hit baits on rope and others where the guys with flouro were out fishing the guys with mono.
+NMP- TV Looking up bright green blends in well with the bright sky, which is good if your fishing top water plugs. Darker green will blend in with the pond water as well looking down and out to the side. There is a shot at 3:17 when we were in green tinted water and our green tinted flouro did well here. It might give you an idea of how green blends in. Here is a link to a video I did where I filmed a bait going through pond water. We had a clear line on for perspective. th-cam.com/video/PtgpWsZZ-6A/w-d-xo.html
+Jay Voorhees We actually have an idea of how fish see colors. There eyes are very similar in makeup to our own. I know there is no way to know exactly how they see but you can use this test as a way to get started. Try using different colors or flouro versus mono to see what gets more bites. Hope it helps!
We do know that fish respond to different colors. We do not know what their brain perceives in the visual light spectrum. Similar cell structure of corneal lens, rods and cones, retina, the macula and optic nerve does not mean that the fish 'sees' color like humans do. Great video presentation and editing, btw : )
If one guy in a boat is slaying mangrove snapper on 40# pink fluorocarbon leader and the other guy isn't getting bites on 40 blue, green, or red, that answers your questions.
its not about humans seeing the line underwater ive been studying line for year and first thing u must ALWAY REMEMBER AND I STRONGLY REMIND YOU YOU MUST ALWAY ALWAYS REMEMBER fish see diffrently to us they can see 3/4 of the light spectrum way more than we can see so i recomend u do a test in salt water then get a white light yellow light ir light red light blue light uv light green light and last of all a thermal camera by doing this u get an understanding of what most fish see hope it helps GOOD FISHING GUYS
Different animals see in different color spectrums and detail.......is majority of game fish vision able to see similar enough to humans for us to judge what hides best? If fish see uv the lines clear likely are highlighted as an example.
Two years back, offshore I was fishing with a guy: we both had 25 lb main line, same color and type braid, leader, same weight, same length, same hook--from the same package, and both with the same fluorocarbon BRAND--but mine was "clear" and his was color "multi". Both fishing live anchovies. He took seven big yellowtail and I was zip. I changed to his COLOR of fluoro--and wallah! I started catching fish at his rate. I can't sort it, how can you beat "invisible" clear fluoro? Is it that "clear" is not in fact, clear in water which is colored?
some lines actually glow almost, with the UV rays, but we can't see that. now alot of people assume that lines that are as invisible as possible should be the best. and one would think a line that is highly visible(due to UV reflectivity) would be bad and spook the fish. but, from everything i have been able to find, fish use that UV sight for attraction purposes, to feed largely, but some it's even to choose a mate. so i have come to figure that a UV line would actually "attract" the fish, and not spook them. and it would make sense, the manufacturers aren't making them glow for us, since we can't even see that.
Great video presentation and editing. : ) We do know that fish respond to different colors. We do not know what their brain perceives it as in the visual light spectrum. Similar cell structure of cornea, lens, rods and cones, retina, the macula and optic nerve does not mean that the fish 'sees' color like humans do. We frail humans will never have eyes like birds, mammals, reptiles, fish, insects or spiders. People then percieve what we 'see' by only seeing what we want to see....or believe
+saskaleb Sometimes you can catch fish on rope cause they are biting so good! Sometimes fish are finicky and the flourocarbon helps. Flouro is harder to see than mono. Its not necessary but sometimes it helps!
what you are saying is 100% correct and i have tested lines in murky water and clear water and the color of the line dose effects the baits . Arabian gulf Arabian sea the sea of Andaman's sea and other locations. thanks for the valuable info have a good one.
I like to use the pink flourocarbon, or clear flourocarbon leader. I like high vis for my main line on my trolling rods and braid on my bottom rods. If I don't have flouro I will use clear mono as my leader.
Hi mate! I wanted to make a comment for you and your subscribers. I found your video interesting I started what your doing many years ago with invisibility of lines I like you thought that if it can't see the line I would catch more fish, when it comes to choice of lines it's like the lures,do you want the fish to see them or not, what I'm getting at here is fish are afraid and spooked by what they cannot see not by what they can see,it's like us walking into a cobwebs at night it spooks you,if you see them ? Braid is solid in colour and dark that's why you catch fish,if you go along the lines that they can't see it then you will catch the village idiots, all fish are predators but also the hunted.Whether you use braid, flouro, mono makes no difference it's presentation. Just think about what it is your trying to achieve and don't copy cos you learn nothing. Give it a go,I did. I use green or black for On the bottom and blue at or near the surface.👍
How fishing line looks to your eyes matter not at all. It is not about red disappearing. Fish do not see the same way humans see, and there is very solid scientific evidence that fish are color blind in the red spectrum. This is also true of some shades of green. How much this matters is up for debate, but nothing is as meaningless as using your eyes to tell what line colors look like to fish.
I think that depends on the fish. Bass seem to really like red glitter in worms at least in my area. You could throw a watermelon seed color bait next to a watermelon red bait and the one with red glitter will usually outperform the other on most days.So if they can;t see red then why does it matter if there is red glitter or not in a bait?
Hello . You can't nanofil wound in the bobbin .You have most likely damaged . He is so eager to get in the inertial coil after reloading in the future on the nodes and where was bent on the bobbin. And here generally without regard to the chain block that performs the rod or spinning reel. All soldered strands to this exposed. My English is not native language sorry .
Fish can see colour but not in the way we do... they are usually dichromatic and peak absorption different etc... you’d have to take a multispectral camera image of the lines and then convince that with some absorption fn that matches the pigments found in the particular fishes eyes. I did this for an MSc project that looked into why some species evolved the vision that they have.

Fish don't normally look down for prey. They usually look up. Try running your test again contrasting the line with the sky. A fish doesn't know what a fishing line is. All that fish know is eat, reproduce and survive. I've proven many times that I'm somewhat smarter than a fish, but not always. You have a great day.
+samiam1150 Thanks, that's a good point! I tested the line looking down because sometimes I run a line midway in the water column and wanted to compare the two different angles. At 2:30 in the video I hold the line up to the sky to get a contrast. I also have another video where I look at lures and lines as they are trolled overhead. Here is the link for that: th-cam.com/video/yUlh-NBp66o/w-d-xo.html Thanks again for the comment and have a great day as well!
How did you make these diagnoses we humans s fish do not have the same color spectrum so prove what colors that fish see you can't stop trying to play God and just fish

Thanks! You addressed this question with science and actual testing, not just opinion and lore.
Should of done this test with all the same diameter for all line types !
Enjoyed this video a lot. Your explanations made sense.
Have gone to Hi-vis yellow braid, clear mono & floracarbon,
& Yozuri disappearing pink for my line needs.
Will pay attention to more of your videos in the future.
THANKS !!!
actually if you have the same eyes as the fish i bet the results will be a lot different
some says fish are color blind
Yeah I've heard some fish only see blue and greens.
the world may never know then
This is very true. And some fish see different then others.
assuming the fish are not lying to us fisherfolk. 😁
I use mono and always get bit. I use braid for backing only.
Thanks for taking the time to do this, and also the one with the underwater lures in action.
No problem! I really enjoy making these because I learn a lot myself! Any suggestions for other fishing test we could do?
+Reel Hazardous braid colors like moss green, yellow, white, etc. Also different mono, like hivis yellow and blue.
They may associate a particular line or lure with a very painful poke in the mouth. great test man thanks for shooting this!
Thanks, no problem!
Hi excellent video what about the low vise green line in 25 pound test mono thanks
Glad it was helpful!
How do fish view the line? Do fish see colors the same way that we do?
Nice test. Well done.

do most fish look up when feeding?
How does hi vis yellow braid do? I feel like I need this since im blind as a bat now.
Very nice video you taught me a few things...
Thank you for the information! I’m going to buy a small spool of pink fluorocarbon for a leader
No problem. Glad it helped!
For depp 80-150m deep what the best color pls
Which line used in black water pond ?
Does not matter!
Great video. Sounds like pink fluoro is the way to go.
I have floresent green 25lb line as my main line for kingfishing and then 20lb copolomer as my leader is that a good combonation???

Hi mister can i know what model of pink #40 fluorocarbon do u use in this video?
Please, call me Reel! It's Yo Zuri pink Flourocarbon.
Thanks a lot, can't wait to see your next video
Thanks! We'll have a new one up this Friday! If there are any other test you want to see us try let us know.
Awesome info and visuals, thanks!

black amnesia fishing line?
I have a new video testing braids and yellow is one of them. I posted a link at the top.
Very nice video! Sir, do you think the results would be same for fresh waters ... lake, reservoir, etc?
-Throw high visibility line and fish don't like it, resulting in no fish.
-Throw high visibility line and fish like the color, resulting in catching more fishes.

First, thanks for sharing this, great info:)
But I have to ask. BB O Personally I'd pick up Pink Mono Ande line. instead of the floro
ty for reply. Do you have a link for that line you use? Why do you prefer mono over fluoro?
I think green line would be good but I am going to do some more test with braid soon and I'll let you know what I find. I found pink hardest to see even in green water but clear flouro is good too. I used yo-zuri pink flourocarbon line in the test but I would think most flourocarbon pink lines would work well.
Si whats the best braid line to use?
Spiderwire EZ braid. It's made from Dyneema fibers.
My fish couldn't see the lines.
I told him that you could.
We laughed.
He said I should avoid the pink line so I don't hook myself. ;)
Very informative thank you for the video
Glad you like it! We all recently made one for braid. If you fish with that you might find it helpful.
So what's more important?....for us to be able to see the line?...(so we can untangle from others lines, etc.?)....or.... for the fish to not be able to see the line?
If you could do one on braids including white, high-vis yellow, dark green, red and blue would be absolutely fantastic!
That's a good idea! I'll try to take some down soon.
They got a camo colored braid line out not. I want to see why it looks like in murky waters

Use blue mono
What color line is the winner ?
I think the yo zuri pink flouro was the hardest to see.
We have no way to understand how fish see colors. Also fish are adapted to very diverse marine environments.

Did you test "clear blue fluorescent" monofilament color?
You are on the right track.
bass struggle to see blue and green, but also can not see brighter deeper reds
Different animals see in different color spectrums and detail.......is majority of game fish vision able to see similar enough to humans for us to judge what hides best?
If fish see uv the lines clear likely are highlighted as an example.
super like , super interesting vido thanks
Thank you!
thx a lot usefull test for me in real condition thumb up
Thanks!
great vidio thanks
No problem!
Crazy how it works! lol Was the water clear or dirty?
some lines actually glow almost, with the UV rays, but we can't see that. now alot of people assume that lines that are as invisible as possible should be the best. and one would think a line that is highly visible(due to UV reflectivity) would be bad and spook the fish. but, from everything i have been able to find, fish use that UV sight for attraction purposes, to feed largely, but some it's even to choose a mate. so i have come to figure that a UV line would actually "attract" the fish, and not spook them. and it would make sense, the manufacturers aren't making them glow for us, since we can't even see that.
I can never find a fish that will give me their opinion. You must know Flipper.
Aquaman. He talks to fish you know lol
4.5 meters down till red disappears
So, basically pink fluoro is the best?
I think pink was one of the hardest to see. Though I would chose bright yellow for trolling because I can keep the lines organized better.
Alex Fu Pink is The best
Great video presentation and editing. : ) We do know that fish respond to different colors. We do not know what their brain perceives it as in the visual light spectrum. Similar cell structure of cornea, lens, rods and cones, retina, the macula and optic nerve does not mean that the fish 'sees' color like humans do. We frail humans will never have eyes like birds, mammals, reptiles, fish, insects or spiders. People then percieve what we 'see' by only seeing what we want to see....or believe
thanks for sharing
Great video
Thank you
Been fishing with red line for the first time this spring, I’ve caught one fish....
Nonsense, before having fluorocarbone lines
in our lifes, people were fishing better then now. Just a scam to spend more money
+saskaleb Sometimes you can catch fish on rope cause they are biting so good! Sometimes fish are finicky and the flourocarbon helps. Flouro is harder to see than mono. Its not necessary but sometimes it helps!

Why stop there? Might as well stop using conventional rods and reels all together and just start hand-lining sinew lines and stone hooks.
I get way more strikes with a fluorocarbon leader. Some fish species just aren't line shy.
Very interesting.
Thanks!
what you are saying is 100% correct and i have tested lines in murky water and clear water and the color of the line dose effects the baits . Arabian gulf Arabian sea the sea of Andaman's sea and other locations. thanks for the valuable info have a good one.
Thanks! Do you have a favorite line color that you fish with in those areas?
+Reel Hazardous so which color do you recommend
Very interesting. 🤔
THX 👍
I catch most fish with clear line
This would have been a lot more helpful if you kept all the lines of the same weight rating.
its based on how the fish see it not us
wish the fishes could tell us. Their eyes might work differently than human's.
Fish don’t have the same vision as humans so ... not sure why you get out of the test tbh
Fish can see color
Fish can see colour but not in the way we do... they are usually dichromatic and peak absorption different etc... you’d have to take a multispectral camera image of the lines and then convince that with some absorption fn that matches the pigments found in the particular fishes eyes. I did this for an MSc project that looked into why some species evolved the vision that they have.

yousee different from a fish
Use a fish eye camera
Ironically Gopro's use fish eye lenses lol
Here is the link for that: th-cam.com/video/yUlh-NBp66o/w-d-xo.html
Thanks again for the comment and have a great day as well!
How did you make these diagnoses we humans s fish do not have the same color spectrum so prove what colors that fish see you can't stop trying to play God and just fish
Awesome video. This is exactly the video I was looking for. Thank you so much.
