I had this board and it is super fun. But i ended up breaking my toe side fin box. Such a bummer. This board taught me to slow things down and really flow with the wave. Would love to find another.

Appreciated the shout out! I agree with most everything said about the board and you even inspired me to make my own reviews of the softech and other foam boards I own. I kinda laughed when you said those waves were difficult to paddle through as I surfed the Froth 7'0 at Blacks SD and had to throw the board over waves to get through the beach breaks. Thoughts on my personal board, it seemed very thick, ~3'1/2 and had issues with the foam tips coming off the nose/tail. QC is a bit iffy, but it surfs fine and is good for getting in early or on softer days when you want to cruise. I could go top to bottom on the board, but there was no recovery after big maneuvers due to the inertia of the board. Kinda feels like a big fish in terms of style as it needs a wide face to turn on or you just eat it. Looking forward to more vids!

I think there are a lot of beginners and intermediate surfers who buy foamies on real crowded days/spots when you don't want to worry about getting dings. There's a softboard by Mick Fanning that I bought (MF Beastie 7'0", 50L). They are supposed to be "performance" soft top with Future or FCS 2 fin boxes and cost about $200 more than Catch surf boards. It'd be really cool to see someone do a comparison review of various soft tops (Mick Fanning vs Froth vs Catch surf vs Almond surfboard).
The issue is that I have very limited funds since I am using my own money and to buy two foamies instead of a real board is difficult to justify. It's not that I don't want to, if these companies would loan me or let me have a board to review I'd be more than happy to. If you want, you can try emailing them just to give him the heads up about my channel. That way if I inquire at least they'll know who I am and may consider it.
Really enjoyed hearing about getting your daughter out on the waves. Been taking my little ones out for some belly rides and super fun to see the stoke in their eyes.
Great review! I've seen web sites differentiate by calling Wavestorms and other soft boards 'foamies', and calling these hard boards with soft skins 'soft tops'. It seems like it makes a big difference in how the board surfs. BTW, is your 5' Froth on CL right now? 😎

Great video! I just discovered your channel this past week. I'm looking into adding a mid length/funboard to my quiver. I'm an Intermediate surfer here in central Florida and most of the time riding small mushy waves on the east coast- often riding a 6'0" Neilson Blunt which is basically a very floaty board that my 6 year old also loves to ride (it's 6'0", 23" wide and 2&7/8th). I've been drawn to the soft top though because I'd like to make things even safer for my son. I was looking into these Froth boards on Amazon and then found this review. I'm tempted to get the 7'0" froth for us, but your video on the Helm was also kind of tempting. In your opinion would it be worth upgrading to the Helm Playground (7'6") over the 7'0" Froth? Would love your thoughts on that. Thank you!
the Helm is hard bottom so i'm not sure that is the "safest". I had the same concerns when I was shopping for a board that my daughter could use. The Helm is a step above but if you want a true soft top, top and bottom, the froths are better. if you want it just for you, go Helm. BTW, order direct cuz I think the distribution company for boardworks is on the east coast. BTW, I just got the 8'. I will test it and put out a video after my ear heals from surfers ear surgery. :) the 7' was perfect for my kid at the time and was way better than the wavestorm for progression. She literally outgrew it in 5 weeks and went to the 5'6.
@@jeffreyhoy6908 i just mentioned that large works best cuz you lose 1/4" of depth cuz of the eva bottom later. I'd say whatever your favorite thruster set is but larger or bigger. the stock fins worked ok too on the 5'6. Only on the 5'0 did it make a difference for me.

in the short term, I have the Surftech Sharpeye Modern2, my seasdie and gofish by firewire, and my seaxe. I think the only board I plan to buy for now is the CI Mid. I'll be broke for a while after that.
I've got one of those hybrid degree 33 longboards, it's perfect for my local break in Alaska. Local break is inconsistent break only every couple weeks, and you have to wear a 5/4 or 4/3 depending on season, so I'm usually out of shape and it paddles really easy. It's also real shallow rock bottom and the board seems pretty indestructible. I also really like that you don't need to wax it because it's always damp and rainy here and it's hard to wax if you don't have somewhere to wax it inside. The 9.0 ultimate longboard I've got feels more like a mid than a longboard for nose riding as it has a decent amount of rocker and turns pretty easy. I don't think I'd bother buying one for other places or take it traveling, it's kind of expensive for a made in China board, but perfect for where I use it.

@@darrenc7517 hate that argument. Foamies make it inconsequential for beginners to learn to control their board. It’s soft and cheap. No physical or financial investment. If you’re over the age of 16 and you’re beginning on a foamie you’re doing it wrong. And there’s no excuse for all the beginners on foamies who don’t know the rules going to populated surf spots.

@@biff022 Agree with what you are saying that there are alot of beginners flooding the lineups nowadays with no idea of the unwritten rules that should be taught by surf schools but most surfskoolz are just showing people how to get to their feet in the most inefficient easyest way possible so they can get that instagram pic of them on a wave..Dam blue juice generation..) but I would rather they are on foams than a 9 foot solid resin out of control weapon..The kooks can rarely get past the first 2 sets of whitewater anyway...(I best not say i,m riding a foamy on the smaller days while my mini mal gets repaired)

Good points. Many of my friends want to start surfing but I agree the wavestorm is so bulky and hard to deal. This might be better alternative.

Yeah, that's the best. My daughter hasn't surfed in about 5 months but water will get warm soon and she will be motivated, I hope.

It is a great beginner board and a ultra grovelers. my buddy and I once surfed 6-inch waves for 2 hours.
