This is my favorite scene from the Crown because I am a Christian and I love how he is so gentle and kind and humble in talking with her about Jesus...and this allows her to feel safe enough to open up and share her thoughts and beliefs with him. Just a truly beautiful scene 😊

      Graham was a powerful orator.
But for those of you who believe in his virtue, you may want to look up on TH-cam his conversation with Richard Nixon on black people…
which not only has has left much… to be desired, but is disgraceful as it is revealing.

Natural reaction to anyone who hasn’t fully accepted Christ. Satan has a veil over your mind that blinds you to things of Heaven and focuses you on things of the world. Now I’m not sure how Phillip felt in real life, but this is a great illustration of how peaceful Christ can make you when you live for Him vs how uncomfortable you feel when you haven’t accepted Him.

Queen Elizabeth herself was a believer, and when you’re seemingly the only one in your family who is truly trying to live as a follower of Jesus, of course you’re going to be captivated by someone who also is committed to the faith as you. Not to mention we are talking about Billy Graham here, who was the spiritual advisor/mentor to every US President from Eisenhower to Trump, great friends with Queen Elizabeth, preached behind the iron curtain, and impacted countless people for the sake of the Gospel. To this day, out of so many famous preachers, we have yet to find dirt on the man. He simply desired to do God’s will. Was he perfect, not by a long shot, but he nonetheless followed the One who was. That’s America’s pastor for you!

One of today's rare mainstream TV series that can say Christian, who a Christian is or what a Christian should do, a few times. Love that about the Crown.

Something very powerful struck me. It's got the word 'despite' in it. As good a job as Claire does with the accent, it's not perfect and when it doesn't sound right to anyone who has a keen ear for accents and grew up when at least some people (other than the royals) spoke with the accent she is trying to use (check out Celia Johnson in Brief Encounter) it's quite jarring and risks 'breaking the spell'. But here's the 'despite': Claire Foy's performance is so perfect that the 'risk' never turns into anything at all. And I forgot to put despite in there. Accent imperfections can typically totally wreck what would otherwise have been flawless productions. I even hesitate to put this into that category, because I'm not sure that many would know or care. She could have been much less accurate and something else would have still given her the edge. She spends long moments saying nothing. The fact that these are some of the most moving moments, when the camera lens is right up against her face, and the totally convincing acting still cuts right through the silence, makes a mockery of me even raising the accent issue.

Maybe she did have a crush on him. But then again I noticed that Graham wanted to meet every U.S. President and he did. I think he wanted attention just like some of these rock stars. Probably Graham wanted to meet Queen Elizabeth at that time too and she often asked for his advice in regards to spiritual matters. Most of us are searching. I guess we'll never know, but we can only go by our instincts.

Billy Graham was the evangeliser of the last century. That despite the criticism of even a Christopher Hitchens. As one commentator once wrote "rational people should have a hard time accepting Hitchens' characterization of Graham as a disgustingly evil man."
