She has portrayed many wonderful characters perfectly. Professor McGonagall, Mrs. Medlock, from the Secret Garden, Granny Wendy from Hook, Lady Grantham from this. She is a beautiful and worthy Queen and one of my favorite actors.
I think everyone can agree that the Dowager Countess' lines were some of the most iconic moments of the show. She made the show so witty and funny, I love her! I find myself quoting her sometimes in my own life.
She is an absolute classic I think. She reminds me of my very English Mother. The British are so good at doing these programs I love watching it. 🎉 Ruth
thats true british style, credits should actually be given to the writers, director, costume designers and so.... every character shows how much important they are in the society
My favorite Dowager Countess quote is "I'm not arguing, I'm explaining. " She is one of my favorite characters. Love watching her witty interactions with the cast. Maggie is amazing in Downton Abbey and wonderful in everything she does. Truly a gem!! ⭐️
It is so sad to hear of her passing. Dame Maggie Smith was a National Treasure who was one of the very best actresses with 70 years of a career and what a career she had, my sincere respects to her family, loved ones, friends, colleagues, fans and the nation. You shall be very missed Dowager Countess of Grantham. R.I.P and thank you.
Dame Maggie Smith. Thank you so much and with great gratitude from so many people for your great acting abilities. Bravo. Well done. I hope you’re having a wonderful journey. RIP 💐💐
Maggie Smith was magnificent in everything in which I’ve had the privilege to see her display her immense talents. Thank you, Dame Maggie Smith for your truly wonderful body of work. RIP 🤍🕊️
"Lady Grantham" ... gone but never, ever forgotten as long as we can view these snippets from time to time. What a legacy of one-liners she has left us with!
The best one for me is when she says to Robert 'When you talk like that I'm tempted to ring for Nanny and have you put to bed with no supper'. Can you imagine being spoken to like that by your mother and instantly feeling like a child again.
They shouldn't have let her go. I can't watch without her. I watched her exit episode once. The rest, I watch regularly. Never again that one. 😢 I have always loved Maggie. I started watching because of her. You should see her in Quartet. (The 2012 movie. She was in 2 by that title). Amazing cast. Music was played by real retired performers in the movie.
@dawnstanley1733 I realize that. But I'd have sweetened the deal for her. Tried, anyway. Nope, idc how good an actress they are, she can never be replaced.
The Spanish version ( latin ) gives Maggie Smith a freshness, and more color to accentuate in her voice all that she expresses. It is a very special voice and ideal for a grandmother countess but with the best sense of humor.
I'm amazed there's still something new to discover even if we watched it 130456 times... And it's a cat nonetheless! 😍 It's a shame it didn't get any screen time, must be so cute if Violet was holding it 😍
And then there's original Maggie Smith; "It's ridiculous! I lead a perfectly normal life before Downton Abbey, now... pfft the Fulham Road's gotten dodgy."
The Dowager was undeniably one of the best characters in Downton it is such a shame to see her go. No doubts Mary will turn out just like her but we wont go into much detail about that 😂. I hope in the 3rd film they go back to the style of the first few series as it focuses on Robert, Bates and Anna. Mostly Robert as i would like to find out about how he actually met Cora and how they fell in love a bit how they found out about the Dowager before she passed by going to the villa. Reason being i think it would show us a side of Robert that we haven't seen before and show us that apart from being serious and heartfelt he is actually really funny 😂. If they go back to focusing on Bates and Anna i'd like to see them and there son (John Bates Jr.) and how they live depending on the time jump there son going to school and how they manage there life aswell as both working at Downton. But that's just what i would like to see probably not going to happen but you never know! 😅
Maggie Smith, you will be missed! ❤ Last week I watched her in Carol Burnett Show (They have an verified YT channel) She was awesome in youth and in older age :)
My favorite lines were: “It’s the judges who decide this things; not me”. S1E5 at the awarding of the prize for the best bloom, when Lady Grantham gave the cup to Mr. W. Moseley instead of herself as the card read.
Yes, the writing was amazing, but Maggie Smith is a treasure. I can't imagine anyone playing this character better.
She has portrayed many wonderful characters perfectly. Professor McGonagall, Mrs. Medlock, from the Secret Garden, Granny Wendy from Hook, Lady Grantham from this. She is a beautiful and worthy Queen and one of my favorite actors.
But it was her delivery of the lines that made an incredible character come to life by a phenomenal actress of the highest order.
I think everyone can agree that the Dowager Countess' lines were some of the most iconic moments of the show. She made the show so witty and funny, I love her! I find myself quoting her sometimes in my own life.
Yes, I love her and how she makes us think and laugh!

RIP Dame Maggie Smith. There will never be anyone else like you. Such a big loss when we lose one of the greats. Fly high 🕊
Oh no!!! They left out my favorite line ...
"What's a weekend?"
I agree... "What is a weekend"? lol Can you believe there were ppl back than that didn't know what a weekend was.

Yes, both the lucky ones (didn't work at all) and the unlucky ones (worked 7 days).
The most drop-dead line of the entire Downtown series.
@@huascar66
And that delivery ... !!!!!
"Nobody wants to kiss a girl in black" is my favourite🖤 Think about it often:)
And "one can't de devastated at the death of every foreigner" 🥲
"Why does every day involve a fight with an American?" 😂
It's extra funny when you remember her daughter-in-law is American lmao.
@@themisheikathat’s what she was referring to 🤣
@@danivarius Poor Cora, catching strays from her mother-in-law even when she ain't there XD
Colonialism?

5:40- I just love the reaction she gives when Sybil gives her a witty reply to her comment
I always imagine Julian Fellowes used to chuckle each time he wrote for the dowager. And Maggie Smith did such wonderful justice to the role ❤
Interestingly most of her lines weren't written by him
@@jakecavendish3470 interesting I didn't know that. Do you know who?

Rest in peace Dame Maggie Smith, you were wonderful and adored ❤
Thank you. I really needed this today. At least we can always enjoy her films and memories she left us.
God bless you, Dame Maggie. The absolute backbone on which Downton Abbey was built! ❤
She has such a great dry since of humor. Delivers them with such finesse.
They left out her last funny line when she said "Quiet. I can't hear myself dying."
Yes.💞 Brilliant!🎉
Rest in Peace Dame Maggie Smith. You were a talent beyond measure and a dream to watch ❤️

Seeing Sybil in these early scenes and Matthew 😢.

Marvelous! Dame Maggie Smith added so much to Downton Abbey! What a wonderful, witty and unique character she played, as Lady Grantham 💐
RIP our beloved Maggie Smith. Loved her work. :"You'll be rewarded in Heaven, the sooner the better" (Dowager Coutness)
She does say what's on her mind lol love it
Julian Fellows is such a fabulous and witty writer ! And Dame Maggie Smith a legend in this role. I adore " Oh! my husband didn't leave me, he died !

She was a remarkable character
How about, “how is it up there on that moral high ground?”
How could the classic line "What is a Weekend" Not be included.
That line really highlights how different her life experience was from thst of the working class.
"Lady Grantham" ... gone but never, ever forgotten as long as we can view these snippets from time to time. What a legacy of one-liners she has left us with!

So sad that her character died. With the upcoming season i cant imagine Downton without her.
When is the upcoming season?
@@AlexandraK1 Doesnt have a date yet. But production is already underway.
The prequel of the Downton Abbey movie is a start with Eva Green as the younger version of Lady Violet Crawley.
