I never tire of this film! I cannot tell you how many times I have watched it with such pleasure! The cinematography, costumes, settings and acting is supreme, as is the directing.
It is fun, but the 1995 series is the best. It is authentic and follows the text of the book where as a 2 hour version has to be reduced to a stylized and simple version.
Isn't it just marvelous? I just watched the whole film again on a flight this week and here I am again. This adaptation is so lively and enchanting; it feels like the camera caught so many little spontaneous moments between all the characters, the way Mary holds her punch cup out of the way of her spazzy sisters with a sour expression, the way Mrs. Bennett is openly gawking at the aristocrats when the music stops. I love that they let Bingley be a bit of a sweet dope. It really captures Austen's warmth and gentle humor.
When she asked him if he could dance and he said no, she left and you can tell he looked disappointed in himself. So the next ball, he goes up to her and asks her to dance. He went out of his way to learn to dance just for her hoping he would impress her. So sweet.
But in the book it says he dances with Miss Bngleys and Mrs Hurst. He knows how to dance but did mention later that hes not comfortable talking or dancing with new acquaintances
I love it! Everytime Lizzie shares her grievance with Mr. Darcy, he takes action the next time. The first time they meet, he declines to dance with her. Then, out of spite after hearing him say she's not "handsome enough to tempt me," when Mr. Darcy asks her to advise how one can show affection (as opposed to poetry), she responds by saying dancing, even if the partner is barely tolerable. The next ball, he abruptly appears and asks her to dance, much to her confusion and dismay 😆
@@Hello-Stoikooh yes, that double take was defnitely attraction, then his snobby thinking better of it took over. He thought her to be below him in status.
I love Jane austen’s writing, the way she forms these characters in a way where you can go into depth of their love language is so interesting. I think that’s what makes it so addicting to rewatch and reread over and over again.
I love this version. When it came out I saw it 4 times in the movie theaters lol. Then have watched it countless times at home. I still love the 1995 version don’t get me wrong but this one is just as wonderful
Soon after this film came out we had a young cardiologist join our hospital and it was such a treat for we nurses whenever "Mr Darcy" did ward rounds 😁 .... and I was in my 50s 😂
Wouldn't it be absolutely fantastic! If we could be so joyous and happy once again!! Can this happen? Can be life be so simple and happy? Only we could know!
Nope, unfortunately. Life has a lot of tragedy. Some happy moments, but always fleeting. However, the reward at the end of this vast play, will be worth it. 😉😊
They say romantic movies make you unhappy. I know I feel quite irritated with my husband's shortcomings after watching Mr. Darcy's sweet desperation at the end...
Compare your husband to some of your friends jerk husbands or Ex's. That's reality. Then think of your dating days, how much your husband does for you, how he's sacrificed for you at times. People show love in very different ways.
Some men don't explore the hidden depths of romance they have locked inside. They never realize, what a amazing response they would get from their wife, if they only tried. Romance is fun, and rewarding. Buying a bunch of flowers for no reason except for the sheer enjoyment of seeing the look on your love's face. I hope he comes to life for you.
Yes, I ❤ Kelly Reilly in both! She absolutely makes Yellowstone for me! And Brenda Blethyn as Mrs Bennet is phenomenal. She hid her anger under angst in a very real way! I remember seeing her in an episode of Law & Order: SVU where she was quite remarkable as well🎉
Agreed, this film was tolerable, i suppose, but the other one has so much more time to flush out the characters. Also, Jennifer can't be beat as Elizabeth.
My favourite P&P is the 1995 version, but that was TV series length and was far more true to the source material. As far as film-length versions go, I don't ever see this one being topped.
My favorite version of Pride and Prejudice. I went to see it the day it came out in the movie theater. Then I bought the DVD. I think I've watched it 50 times. I love it!

Really, the class system in Britain was insufferable. How dare they walk in late and everyone stops for them.Caroline Bingly was so up herself .Jane Austen did a brilliant job showing the follies of the average person in that time!
These were not average people, they were landed gentry. Darcy’s mother was the daughter of an Earl and he is socially above the Bennets and the rest of the guests, that’s why everyone stops when he walks in.
Communities came together and engaged in fun and dance on a dark winter night. Today, there's zero community ( Fraggle Book, FB, does not amount to Community). I wish I had lived in these times, people cared for each other, even if I had been a kitchen maid back then it would have be a good time, tending my herb garden, taking long riverside walks in nature. Sighs dreamily! 😊
Romanizing and having nostalgia for a past you’ve never been part of is very absurd. Most women back then had to marry crusty men against their will but endure for their family. Women also had no rights and died of childbirth… but of course keep pretending that the life you have now is so terrible … that’s just escapism and delulu lol
P.S. Signor Darcy dove sei?💫😉🤭😊
I love it. I think it’s more accurate to the time. I like everything about it except the story is hurried. I also wonder about how close the animals are to the house. Maybe average farmers or ethnic groups, but not titled people. The smell would be awful. Even at that time, I don’t think most farmers in the U.S. had their livestock that close. The English version doesn’t hurry the story and I like it too but it’s a lot different. I like the actors in the movie best.

I agree with you and it has to be the 2005 version of pride and prejudice!
When she asked him if he could dance and he said no, she left and you can tell he looked disappointed in himself. So the next ball, he goes up to her and asks her to dance. He went out of his way to learn to dance just for her hoping he would impress her. So sweet.
I’m sure he already knew how to dance, growing up wealthy. He just never cared for it till he met her
@ that’s a good point haha
But in the book it says he dances with Miss Bngleys and Mrs Hurst. He knows how to dance but did mention later that hes not comfortable talking or dancing with new acquaintances
He said no because he's shy.

I LOVE this movie . So much said with just glances , expression, and gestures. And the cinematography was stunning !
It looks like both of them felt the tension of attraction at first sight.
I think it was love at first sight, but it took a long time for them to admit it.
Not according to the book, however. Mr. Darcy abhorred the first sight of her.
From the very first time he looks at her it’s clear he’s taken
To see Kelly Reilly in this role and now as Beth in Yellowstone is just too much. She has arrived folks!!!
Cannot believe Donald Sutherland passed 😢

The 1996 adaption will never be replaced in my heart. But this version has a lot of charm.
When Darcy looks at Lizzie .. this is my favorite part of the movie sigh ❤
It’s funny to see Kelly Reilly honing her Beth Dutton attitude 15 yrs ago…😂😂😂

Saying something stupid when you're nervous is hard since there is no rewind button. Something we all can relate to. The book is good.

I just realized the actress Kelly Reilly that plays Beth in Yellowstone is playing Caroline Bingley.
Yes, she also acts as Colton's mother in Heaven is For Real.
A very beautiful woman! Not like in the 1995 series, Caroline Bingley is simply terrifying there!!
