This might be my very favorite Nate moment in any video I've watched on either of your channels. No joke, no exaggeration. I know you both get a lot of joy out of traveling, adventuring, and trying new things. But the level of nerd joy you can see on Nate's face as he's explaining this to Kara...that's something special. Like, you can seriously tell how much fun this is for him, and that explaining this to others gives him just as much happiness as Kara gets out of talking about the podcasts she listens to all the time. So, to answer your inquiry as to whether or not we like this format of explaining points? Yes. Yes, we do. Carry on.
I don't normally watch these vids all the way through (As I don't live in the US and not a flight travel hacker) I just like bonus vids of the two of you. I SO enjoyed watching you explain this to Kara. What a cool deal too. Would love to see more Daily Drop video like this :)
Wonderful to know we don't have to go to a survival island to earn points 😁 And yes this format is extra engaging. Kara being with you for part of it. This kind of information is such a gift you are giving us.
I think it's good you promoted this in your Kara and Nate video, because I'd actually forgotten you were making Daily Drop videos - I'd watch them more often with those reminders :)
Love you guys, truly an inspiration to me and my wife! Thank you for your content on both channels ❤️. May I ask that next time you do a video on this, you also mention that to get the 150k points, you need to spend X amount in a certain timeframe ($4000 in 3months for Aspire). You guys go through sign up bonuses quick (especially within the US every 6months? I may be wrong on the frequency) so you are spending some serious cash to get the sign up bonuses. Back to this, for the pair of you in your analogy, that’s $8000 (300k) plus the sign up fee and points buy, which is closer to $9800, not $1800. Now if you are spending $8000 in 3months (house renos, buying a car, booking first class flights etc) then 100% get a little something something out of it. I’m just suggesting a more realistic example on travel hacking would be as good as any content. There’s also the points you’d earn from spending the cash to get the welcome bonus on top too, so you’d have $8000 worth of AMEX points. Again thank you, no criticism, just a suggestion for more hacking content 🤙
I use the new credit card for all my monthly expenses. Like I would my checking account. I make all payments using the new cc and treat it as if it were my checking account. I subtract each amount from my monthly income. Then at the end of the billing cycle I have the cash already set aside. If it fits your monthly budget it works. 🤷🏻♀️
Yes! I love this format of explaining it to Kara! I’ll definitely be doing this trip in this mannerAFTER I’ve done the free Jamaica trip which should be next year!
Paris, Maldives, Bora Bora, and Bali are all on my bucket list... At least 2 of them are. We've travelled to Paris 4 or 5 times... Just went to Bora Bora in February so just checked that one off our list. Now I want to go to Bali and Maldives. Bora Bora was EVERYTHING I thought it would be.
Loved this video format and overall one of my favorites! You did a great job translating the annual fee to trip savings. It can be hard to get over that annual fee sticker shock but you really helped put it in perspective with total price and savings :)
I need so many more of these videos. I signed up for a Chase Sapphire card and have no idea what to do with it. After putting a lot on my card over the past 4 months, I have enough points to afford approximately 10 hours in these bungalows. 😆
I love how you guys are sharing and documenting how people can make these systems work for them! Very great explanation Nate and Kara deserves an iced coffee for sure!!😂
Love the video - I am planning my honeymoon doing this exact plan! My question is I have 5 nights booked in the standard reward room at the Conrad - how do I go about securing an upgrade into an over water villa? I have the Aspire card which allows me Diamond status. Is the complimentary upgrade from the standard room the OWV? Don't want to get all the way there to be stuck in a standard, hotel style room - the OWV are what make the trip worth it imo.
love, love, love!!! Always wanted to go to Bora Bora and this is the WAY!!!!!! fabulous!!! whoo hoooo! Sending this video to my friend so we can sign up for the card!!!!! yay! hurray!!!! Bora Bora here we come!!!!! thank you Kara and Nate and DAILYDROP!!!!!
Nate, which wireless microphone are you using with your iPhone for the bungalow tour? I've tried many mics like that from Amazon, but haven't found one that doesn't crackle and has great sound quality. Would you recommend/ link yours?
Good summaries. It would be helpful for those new to the points and miles game to remind them that you still have to hit spend to earn those SUB points, and not to be spending outside your normal means to get to those bonuses hence negating any savings you might have using points and miles
OMG! I love you guys!! Hopefully the credit card companies don’t make getting points harder because of your videos 🥴Hoping to use some of your tips soon❤❤❤❤
lol...can totally tell that Kara is going through the motions ...looking like she's totally following along but zoned right out and would never be able to repeat it back ...haha
I was watching a video about 10 things you should know about travel to N. Korea, and they must have use a snippet of Nate being there. When you went there you were only in that one building and Nate was wearing the plaid shirt, yet they had a quick picture of Nate wearing white tea shirt with his signature baseball cap worn backwards. I don’t think you guys or Nate was actually in country. Try to find it, if you weren’t there see if you can do something about it.
Just curious.. how much do you guys spend yearly on just the annual fees to keep all of these cards you talk about having or do you get rid of some of them once you've used the signing bonus points up? $900 in fees seems a great deal for year 1 only but not year 2+.
You guys kind of glossed over how you ended up in the overwater bungalow as opposed to the lagoon view while booking standard with the 120,000/night - I'm assuming Diamond Status upgrades on check-in from lagoon view to OWB are relatively rare, so did you just get lucky or how did you go about that?
i don’t know what they did, but when i went, we took local tours and also went to the town and shopped at the local stores, including grocery stores to buy cup noodles cuz everything is expensive there!
This place looks amazing... don't get me wrong.. but for those prices, I see a lot of worn-out surfaces and damaged edges and corners on the fixtures. For that price, you shouldn't even have to fill the water tank on the coffee pot. That should be piped into the wall. I would rather just stay somewhere more rustic for fewer points/$
Im curious if you ever had a plan with new cards, but then get an unexpected rejection on one of your applications? Id imagine that may throw quite a wrench in planning these trips.
Glad to know I wasn’t the only one who knew the Kardashians stayed there and where Kim lost her diamond earring 😂 And how we decided to go there for our honeymoon 😂
I love you guys but omitting the $60,000 spend requirement for the card you referenced, and the minimum spend requirement to receive the points bonus for other cards is misleading. I implore you to do better. You don't just "get the points for opening a card" ...
Thanks for the feedback! Just to clarify, the Hilton Aspire card gives you a free night award just for having the card each year with the option to earn an additional free night if you spend $60,000 so we can definitely agree that earning the second free night isn’t realistic for most haha But the first reward night is an immediate benefit for having the card. Thanks for the comment!
I thought that most Amex-Hilton cards provide a one-time bonus for the points (150k) in this case. And I assumed that both Kara and Nate had the card before so wouldn't get the points bonus?
I like the style of explanation but it was too fragmented. First, interrupting for Brendan, then interrupting for the sponsor, then interrupting for the room tour. Gave me a bit of whiplash.
Yes, you can get cheaper holidays using points but you need to put thousands of dollars worth of purchases to get the points so aren’t getting it cheap, you have already paid for it gradually instead of upfront.
no.... you get the sign up bonus only if you spend the minimum requirement.. its one of the things they dont tell you... there is a minimum spending..... not only the $1800 that Nate mentioned but the $4k for each card.. so in total $8k spending to get 300k points... that why if you have big purchases in the future, if timed right.. it can be a good investment... not sure if everyday spending people would spend $4k in 3 months.maybe but that would be alot of pressure to do so to meet the requirements
Charge $50,000 on a CC buying crap you don't need to get a $2000 room. Then go and have to pay off the $50k. This is the game plan to keep people in debt/broke.
There is SO much misleading information in this video. Firstly, it is generally a bad idea to transfer Amex MR points or Chase UR points to Marriott as the redemption value is not strong compared to airline transfer partners. You would be far better off earning Marriott points with a Marriott credit card, which could also earn you status with the hotel for potential upgrades. Also, you would have earned a minimum of 24,000 Hilton points doing the minimum spend on the Aspire cards for the welcome bonuses. Not to mention one of you could have referred the other to earn even more points. But having said all that, why would you show a villa that you can't even book with points in a video about saving money by booking a hotel with points?
I love these places but even if you can do all the stuff you need to do to get the place for $1,800 you still have to fly there AND I guess it's not all inclusive so you have to buy your meals. That adds up $$$
@@lifewithlarsandsusie8315 These places are not meant for regular people to stay at. They are meant for the Rich. So it probably kills the hotel to think that regular people figure out a way to do it but they can't say no.
Kara and Nate I think it is great that you have the opportunity to experience a number of luxury properties, train rides along with exceptional first and business class on some fantastic airlines. Although I would ask that you act a little more mature and not like 10 year olds jumping up and down on beds in Singapore airlines and other inmature acts and show the respect these high end locations or travel means deserve. The biggest injustice is just saying if Kara and I each get a Hilton AMX Aspire credit card and purchased points we could have a free stay for a couple of thousand dollars at the Conrad Bora Bora. First off you are doing an injustice and misleasding your subscribers. To get the card you have to spend EACH $4,000 or a total of $8,000 in 3 months to get the points in addition to the annual fee of $450 per card or another $900 which is an annual fee. YOU FAILED TO TELL YOUR FOLLOWERS THE NUMBER #1 RULE IN GETTING INTO TRAVEL HACKING IS YOU MUST BE ABLE TO PAY YOUR CREDIT CARD BILLS IN FULL EACH AND EVERY MONTH. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS YOU ARE DIGGING YOURSELF INTO A HUGE HOLE AND COULD END UP DAMAGING YOUR CREDIT SCORE TO THE POINT THAT WHEN YOU NEED FINANCING TO PURCHASE A CAR OR HOME YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET CREDIT., IF THEY ARE NOT CAPABLE OF DOING THIS THEN THEY SHOULD NOT BE OUT APPLYING FOR HIGH END CREDIT CARDS TO GET BONUS POINTS. Many people do not know how to properly use and be financially responsible for using credit cards that is why the current credit card debt is 1.03 trillion. Last but not least is you forgot to include what it is going to cost in airline to get to Bora Bora and lets say in get more credit cards to accomplish this (more debt) but you can not use points to get from Tahiti to Bora Bora last time I was there it was $700 round trip per person another $1,400 and lets not forget how expensive the food is in locations like this and Maldives. Not to mention that getting availabilty to use those points in premium locations is becoming next to impossible. You make it sound like every room is bookable with points every night of the year (same for the airline) which could not be further from the true. Be honest and upfront with your followers.
This channel while not hiding the spending requirements as they are shown on screen, does not verbally acknowledge them either. The 4,000 dollars in 3 months is a lot for me, but then there are the 8,000$ in 3 months for business cards, and in this video you have to SPEND 60,000$ in a year for ONLY one free night. I would rather spend the 3,000$ per night cash.
You guys skipped som important details in your math. To get the 150,000 points you need to spend $4,000 in the first 3 months. And for the free night you need to spend $60,000 in a calendar year. So you two spent $900 for the credit card annual fees, spent $8,000 to get your 300,000 points, spent $900 for the additional 180,000 points, and $120,000 to qualify for two free nights? That’s a total of $129,800 in spending total. 🤷♂️ Maybe skip the two free nights and save $120,000 in spending.

i don’t know what they did, but when i went, we took local tours and also went to the town and shopped at the local stores, including grocery stores to buy cup noodles cuz everything is expensive there!
How did they get the overwater villa? Seems like the explanation was for the base room.
Glad someone else noticed that.

Can you combine award night certificates
with point nights or do you need separate reservations?
I’m confused. I went on the Hilton app and you can only buy 80,000 points a year =$800. That’s not a good value by my calculations
Im curious if you ever had a plan with new cards, but then get an unexpected rejection on one of your applications? Id imagine that may throw quite a wrench in planning these trips.

Hi
Hi 👋
You guys skipped som important details in your math. To get the 150,000 points you need to spend $4,000 in the first 3 months. And for the free night you need to spend $60,000 in a calendar year. So you two spent $900 for the credit card annual fees, spent $8,000 to get your 300,000 points, spent $900 for the additional 180,000 points, and $120,000 to qualify for two free nights? That’s a total of $129,800 in spending total. 🤷♂️ Maybe skip the two free nights and save $120,000 in spending.
Shave it
