Urh, wow, thanks for posting. My dad mentioned he was in the front row at this show with my Grandad last night, so I thought I'd look up the set list, to see what he migth have played, only to find the show was available care of you on TH-cam. Can't wait to listen to the whole thing, knowing that my Grandad and Dad are among those clapping and cheering in the crowd!!

Thank you! Just poured my first coffee of the new year and I'm listening to a never before heard (by me) chart - After You've Gone.

It sounds like one of the late 50s/early 60s charts by Mike Abene or Don Sebesky

"Shop at the Co-op" was re-recorded as "Stay Loose With Bruce" on the Live at Jimmy's album featuring the great Bruce Johnstone on bari sax. It was also recorded on earlier albums as "Geller's Cellar" which featured Herb Geller on alto sax, and on the Si Si MF album as "Morgan's Organ" featuring Lanny Morgan.

It's a long running in-joke. The funniest one is when Maynard introduces "Gary Cox" on the tune and when explaining the gag to the live radio audience, he sort of puckishly says something like "and now...here's Gary Cox". The audience gets the joke and laughs out loud, IIRC. I have it on a really ancient tape that is an x-th gen dupe and it sounds awful. There are many edited versions (no conversation) out there of those performances, but I can't seem to find one with the entire broadcasts left intact. Probably an IP issue, but I don't know that for sure. It's sanitizing the past, of which I'm not all that big a fan. Everyone's mileage varies, though.

Definitely a musician 'in joke' of changing the title of a chart according to the personnel at the time

Thank you for this New Year’s. Surprise! I love these old early 70s recordings. It’s so rare to hear Eli’s Comin’ live anywhere on TH-cam. Big memories of high school Jazz band with this one. In high school, I played the trombone solo as it was on the studio album note for note. Those were good times.

Thanks for the MF New Year's gift, Twisty! Keep 'em comin', my friend! It's the BEST music (and the best kept secret apparently) on YT!

I get the feeling that this gig has a few deps in the band. Pete King was the regular alto sax at this time, as was Danny Moss on tenor. What's fascinating about the photo is that there only 3 trumpets (Ernie Garside (manager), Alan Downey, and Martin Drover)
