To be feeling miserable, looking for a job, then ultimately finding a job and still feeling miserable as well, is the most 80's thing about this song, yet still accurate today.
It’s crazy.. The Smiths was my big brothers all time favorite band, and I’ve been suffering from sorrow and anxiety too! due to my brothers death, and just listening The Smiths makes me calm and feel comfortable. I guess It’ll always hurt but it helps us cope
wow! i’m not the only one. They really have this amazing effect that just makes me relaxed and their music just assures me that everything will be alright even though it can be hard.
I was around, saw them at the Cockcroft Hall - Brighton Poly ( as it was then)1984. I remember they got on stage late, because they had been for a curry, many years ago but it seems like yesterday ..
“in my life, why do i give valuable time to people who don’t care if i live or die?” the smiths will always be one of my favorite bands. we can all agree johnny marr was a great guitarist but this band would be NOTHING without Andy Rourke. one of the best bassists ever.
@@henrybaker2413 think you're overselling it with "a lot of the basslines". sure he wrote some, i won't deny that but that is complete and utter bullshit saying that Andy wrote only a minor amount of them. for instance, Rouke wrote the entirety of the basslines on The Queen Is Dead. brush up on your knowledge pal
Heaven knows we're all a little miserable today after hearing of the passing of Bassist Andy Rourke about 1 hour ago (12:40 am Pacific time) on this day May 19, 2023.
This was peak Top of the Pops for when your parents would walk in and mock the guy wearing a hearing aid, glasses and a plant in his pocket. You knew it was awesome if your parents hated it. Morrissey is a one off man and we should all be grateful for true eccentric genius.
I've just found this masterpiece of a band, unintentionally. Boy am I so glad. Their musics theme is so, idk like a feeling I can't describe, makes me feel happy and sad at the same time lol.
The Smiths came along and made a mockery of image before music, new romantics. From 15, when they first came out, They saved music, and made my late teens so bearable. They were genius. Thank you Smiths. Morrissey, who started out with just flowers, ended up with a forest on his back, by later appearances on Top of the Pops. Absolutely hilarious and Genius.
These songs calm me down when I'm ready for bed but at the same time help me get ready for life when i wake up. Idk how to explain it. Maybe I'm just obsessed with this band
No words can express how much this band means to me. Been listening to the Smiths since the summer of 2015 and they have been my favorite band since then. One of the most cohesive and perfect discographies!🤍
Indeed they are one the great band in their prime. Even until now still famous. New friend here giving full support. Thanks for visiting my channel. Stay connected.👍👍👍🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
i swear no level of credit that andy rourke gets is enough, he’s the secret ingredient in their recipe with the knowledge that you could just fall back on johnny marr layering up several guitar parts it would be so easy to just not make any effort on harmonising and instead just play the most basic bass notes, but on almost every notable Smiths track he plays some sort of counter melody, underpinning the groove but also picking out an additional melody which can often be one of three or four if you count both guitar parts + morrisey’s vocal
I was lucky enough to see The Smiths Meat is Murder tour in the Fulton Theater in Pittsburgh, PA in early August 1985 (I was a junior in high school) Billie Bragg opened for them. It was one of the best concerts of my life after several Springsteen concerts (which are unmatched in my opinion...totally different level). Mom was great but I was totally focused on Marr....he was amazing on another level. Bragg was good as well. I would do almost anything to go back to that time...maybe just a little earlier so I could have had the chance to see Ian Curtis and Joy Division. Anyway, I framed the Smiths concert T under glass and it still hangs in my bedroom to this day.
Morrissey was picked on by people saying he was so depressing youd think hed have a tree up his ass. So, as his next performance to say "F you" basically, he did just that and put a tree in the back of his pants
@@joselaw6669 really? I doubt that, it's what I do, everyday. Reading for entertainment is certainly not boring, it's an escape into another world, a life-threatening, once in a lifetime, magical adventure that can be visited time and again, all the while sitting in your house or lying on your couch or played in your head. I find reading for work boring, as there is never a say in what you read. I don't care what anyone says but for millions of people in this world, introverts or extroverts, readers or not, I think you'll find that statement is incorrect.

The Smiths the only band which gives me relief. Especially, when I am being harassed by sorrow and anxiety...

I feel the same with this wonderful band

me too, my family always fight and i find it hard to escape and the only things that work are the smiths and a song videotape by radiohead
I really wish I could have been around when the Smiths were in their prime like this.
Think of how much older you'd be if you had been around then.
All we can hope is that they reunite and tour again but I think the odds of that may be about 0.01%
@@zephead4835 That's definitely true, I just think it would have been interesting to experience this music when it first came out.

@@grimsleeper5945 it was amazing a total new sound. Today still timeless
can we talk about how cool Johnny Marr looks just playing guitar
Without it plugged into the amp
The coolest man in the world, he is
@Henry Bishop Morrissey is an asshole though, cancelling shows because he doesn't feel like it and so on
Henry Bishop ur cringe
can we talk about how cool that guitar looks just being played by *Johnny Marr.*
The undisputable dignity of the individual has rarely been expressed as nonchalantely as in this wonderful piece of thatcherite self indulgence.
Love the times back then when we sit at midnight at cementarys, drink red wine and listen the The Smith.
Still listening and that will never stop
Truly timeless. The Smiths got me through some tough times in college. Such a gift to see this clip that I haven't seen before!
They got me through some tough times last year. God bless.
I am too young to have known the group when it still existed, but I still miss them.
His hand movements are everything! I miss them
Greatest band of the 80's for my money.

Johnny wrote a lot of the basslines. It was a tandem effort.

I love Morrissey's voice, so comforting🥰❤
Yes
Morrissey what a true darling, that voice, the words, the sweetheart that is him, love him xxc
All these years later, I still wonder what's up with that tree branch in Morrissey's back pocket
Olive branch maybe?

@GaryGuevara the hearing aid was a tribute to one of his many influences, Johnny Ray. Who wore a hearing aid
I thought it was for aesthetic purposes lmao but the comments above makes more sense
Always thought it was a kinda, "thorn in his side" kinda statement
Great song

Brilliant in every way

Não consigo parar de pensar em Legião Urbana quando ouço Smiths.
Adoro esse brega de 1984. Ireland rock . Hugs from Brazil (Recife).

Só lembranças, os olhos lagrimejam, estômago esfria, coração bate descompassado e os pensamentos do passado retorna ao presente .
The alternate strumming of Marr tho... so fluid its like hearing rain drops. He's fully dangerous behind those strings! 👍
