    This reminds me of the "good old days" of the '70s and the "80s when breakdowns and equipment failures occurred almost all of 24/7. Out in Rockaway, every IND train except the GG made its way to Far Rockaway at one time or another.

    Man another catch that'll be very rare would be seeing a rerouted (E) to run to Brooklyn via the Culver line I've always wanted to see that happen. The (C) being rerouted via Culver was always a dream until this video. This was a great video by the way and hope you get more rare catches like this one in the future

    • @CrosstownXpress

    Loved operating the R32s ... dinosaurs! I was especially good at BLASTING into the station & then ( pow-pow-pow-pow-POW!) slamming the brakes at the last possible moment, putting passengers on the floor. haha. But that's how we were trained - full speed into the station, power on until halfway through, then brutally braking.

    • @CrosstownXpress
      @CrosstownXpress 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Uh, you do realize that, in total, the F Line has about 44 Trains in total, which is 4 more trains than the A Line (the longest line in the city). Also, most people (but not everyone) along Queens Blvd don't want old trains (because they think they special), which is why the oldest train for service over there is the R46, which is going to be replaced soon by the R211.

    • @karenevans9232
      @karenevans9232 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought some people would only complain about the e line having r32s and r42s. I mean Springfield gardens didn't like the r32s and r42s on the e line. I'm just wondering why did the whole queens blvd line get affected if it was only the e line that needed r160s? Why did the f line needed those r160s. I mean it was fine with r46s and r32s. The e and the r line had way older equipment than the f. Plus the e and r lines had way more r32s and r42s than r46s. The f line was mostly r46. I mean I'm just saying that the r line should of gotten the r160s instead of the f line. Why did the MTA send the r160s to the f line instead of the r line. The f line could of waited until the future for new tech trains.

    • @CrosstownXpress
      @CrosstownXpress 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm guessing this happened because they don't want anyone to be jealous of the E Line on Queens Blvd, so they had to do a makeover for the F and V (now M) Lines as well. As for the R Train, there is like one or two sets that are R160s for the R. Another possible reason could be that the F and G Lines (going to the Culver Line now) did get new train models the same year (or a year apart from each other). As every train car model used on the F Line except the R46 were set for retirement, they were replaced by the brand new R160s (while the G train got the leftover R68s and R68As that were out of service from the B and D Lines because the G Line "isn't as important and most hated" even though it's my personal number 1 favorite).

  • @POKEGAMERZ-uy5lv
    @POKEGAMERZ-uy5lv 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Well they could have just had the G train go all the way down to Coney Island via Culver since the G does not go to Manhattan meaning that the G would have had no delays meaning it could make the trip to Coney Island.

    • @CrosstownXpress
      @CrosstownXpress 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well, considering that this has happened before on many occasions, the G could have been used. But the train length gap (300 feet trains) would cause the G Train to not handle the potentially higher ridership as well as the C Train (480 feet trains).

    • @Jayjaycurlss01
      @Jayjaycurlss01 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kirby Flame there was also A trains that are longer than the C

    • @CrosstownXpress
      @CrosstownXpress 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      While it is true that A Trains are longer than C Trains by 120 feet, the main purpose of the C Line is to serve as a local variant to the "more popular" A Train, the express variant. As such, more people along the Fulton Street Line would have been affected if an A Train was rerouted than if a C Train was rerouted (the A Train serves approximately 600,000 passengers as opposed to the C Train, which serves approximately 200,000 passengers according to MTA data). Therefore, to make sure that the least amount of passengers would be affected, the C Train was chosen to be rerouted instead of the A Train.

    • @SomeTrainEnthusiast
      @SomeTrainEnthusiast 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All of the conductor cabs are on the left hand side (facing the train), so the conductor has to walk between two different cars to open doors on either side.

    Why was F train service having such a large gap? What happened to those C train passengers along Fulton Local waiting for that train?

    • @CrosstownXpress
      @CrosstownXpress 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Probably had to wait for the next C Train, or they just sent a Lefferts Blvd bound A Train local, like they usually do (I only said Lefferts bound because they are more likely to be sent local rather than one to the Rockaways, but a train to Far Rockaway could have been sent local also, but it's not as likely).

    Why didn’t they change it to an F to avoid passenger confusion?

    • @AngelusBrady
      @AngelusBrady 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because it's not an F. The signs in the front and back they could change within seconds, the window signs a worker would have to manually change and that takes time. The C train was already in service and waiting for a worker to change the window signs would slow service even further.

  • @michaelmorales1475
    @michaelmorales1475 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    WHY IS IT SO SHORT?

    • @CrosstownXpress
      @CrosstownXpress 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      C Trains are shorter than the full-length trains because it's main purpose is to be a local variant of the A Train, which is the "more popular" express train. Since more people would rather take the A express train, this leads to a lower ridership on the C local train, thus giving the MTA a reason to have shorter trains on the C Line (the C Line has the second lowest ridership levels in the entire city, only surpassing the G Line).

    I've been watching several videos of yours with these uncommon operations. I don't understand why the trains that are rerouted don't just temporarily use the service number or letter of the train it is covering. For example would it not have been easier for this rerouted C train to be displayed as an F train and run to Coney Island this way? It would have then returned back to being a C train.

    The C has such unreliable service and long headways on any given day so how is it possible a C can be removed from it's regular run to fill a gap in service on another line? The next time there's a 23 minute wait for an uptown C, I expect to see an E or F filling in the gap.

    OMG My R32 (F) Train Is Back!!!!!!!!!!But In 8 Cars Sets?The R32 (F) Trains Were 10 Cars SetsJust Like The R32 (A) (B) (E) (G) (N) (Q) (R) (V) (W) Trains!

    • @CrosstownXpress
      @CrosstownXpress 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The G Train never had a 10 Car R32. When the R32s were used on the G Line (until 2001), they were in the 8 Car format.

    • @m34tgaming16
      @m34tgaming16 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      NO!!!!!!!!!!

    • @PrimaryConsult
      @PrimaryConsult 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      They always used 10 car R32s when the "regular" G was 6 car R46s, the conductor boards in one direction no longer lined up for 8x60' trains (in the other direction the conductor just needed to be between the 5th/6th cars).

    • @CrosstownXpress
      @CrosstownXpress 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PrimaryConsult No, the only time the G Train uses a 10 car train in normal service is when something affects an adjacent line, like if track work forces the F Train to run to Euclid Avenue and the G Train has to operate to Coney Island to replace it. Besides, and R32 8 car train would use the 10 car train conductor board, as the train would line up with it if it stops at the 8 car marker, just like how the C Local Train would have the same conductor board as when the A Train runs local.

    • @m34tgaming16
      @m34tgaming16 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      the R32 itself choose to run on the F
