    Orchestra isn't as simple as dragging a bow across a string. Band isn't as simple as blowing in an instrument.

      Battle Star 55 bowing on the instrument isn't all we do. we got to do harmonics, stretching our fingers to play the right note and notes above V (5th position or notes above the harmonics)

    • @BrikkMeezyYD7021
      @BrikkMeezyYD7021 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Battle Star 55 AND we got to push at the right amount of bowing so our instruments wouldn't sound scrunchy or too light. But Im especially saying this because I play the Bass

    Orchestras have all the original music. Tons of composers write (and have written) music for orchestra, but band is based all around arrangements which rarely sound as good. Obviously there are some pieces written for band but orchestra has a much wider range of music to choose from.

    String orchestras were made first and then woodwind, percussion, and brass instruments were added in addition to the string orchestral ensembles. It's not the matter of which one is better, separate groups are just outdated. The matter is they're all made to harmonize and play together, so they all deserve their own respect.

      Kyla M. Ever heard of a piccolo, well actually a clarinet can play higher than a violin anyways so the piccolo wasn't really even necessary.... ANYWAYS how bout an OCTOCONTROBASS CLARINET that plays notes so low the human ear can't hear.

      @KM-px8cs 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yet, you can make different surface noises and imitation noises in a orchestra with different bow and plucking techniques that can imitate anything from a ringtone to a elephant bellowing in the wild etc. As far as range, well lips aren't the strongest muscles in the body si you are indeed limited as far as sharp notes....I doubt anyone can surpass the sharpest note at the end of a violin fingerboard and sustain it for longer than a fraction of a second.

    Personally, I have never been in orchestra but my friend let me try her viola once. I'm pretty sure that band is harder. Orchestra is better for playing classical music, and band is better for playing upbeat. Both can play the others' strong point but it's not exactly the same. Both have their ups and downs but it's all on the point of view which is better. Personally I like band, I love playing my french horn.

    Am I the only trumpet player who doesn't get in fights 😂? I honestly think band and orchestra are both great hobbies that take an equal amount of skill. With the trumpet, you need to play notes while buzzing your lips and without splitting your lips or blowing out your chops. With a string instrument, it's a lot of hand-eye co-ordination, because you need to know what strings your fingers are on while looking at music. That's from my experience.

    Band AND Orchestra are amazing. They both give you the chance to create music, study music theory, and have so much fun. I cannot see how one can be superior to the other. They have their good and bad things, and that is great. It's good to be passionate of yours, but not to the point of wanting to shame each other and say these people are better; you're ALL great!!

    The rest of my main friend group is band while I’m the only Orchestra. They always make the argument that because band has more instruments they are automatically better. I always make the argument that just because they have more instruments doesn’t mean that they’re better, quality over quantity. I’m am slightly ashamed that I’m happy Orchestra is going way farther than Band in my school, we had our concert in sixth grade, and we played ACTUAL songs, and we were beautiful. So yeah, band has its charm and it is fun, based on what my sister says, but if you really want to go further and climb up the musical scale, go with Orchestra.

  • @arise1530
    @arise1530 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ok so based on my experience in all three main music departments, Band, Chorus, and Orchestra, JUST MY OPINION Band is the hardest than strings than the chorus and here's why:
    For BAND:
    1. Marching band (drops the mike)
    2. More varieties than chorus and Orchestra
    3. You have literally so many instruments, getting the right balance for the band is difficult to start with
    4. One tiny squeek=The band is bad
    5. Sneeze?=The band is bad
    6. Balance issues
    8. Drum Corp
    9. The music for percussion looks like it's all rhythms which are true, but sometimes the rhythms go against your humane counting like off beats, diddles, etc
    10. Breathing through a big instrument is hard
    11. Lifting a sousaphone for like 2 hours the time is a big no-no and can create back problems
    12. Reeds, mouthpieces, valve oils, drumsticks are pricy and wear out/break often.
    Now Strings:
    1. Intonation is harder
    2. One single shift of your finger= out of tune= the Orchestra is bad
    3. More delicate instruments
    4. More careful about humidity (also wooden clarinets)
    5. Clearly hear the difference between a pro vs noob
    6. More soothing tones
    7. Fit in well to almost any classical music if not all
    8. Don't fit in well with typical band pieces like Marching Band
    9. Overall more skills
    10. How much Rosin you put on
    11. Everything you do affects your tone
    12. The pressure of a concertmaster
    Now Chorus:
    1. BREATHING correctly
    2. Matching pitches
    3. Literally, anything you do affects your pitch
    4. Didn't necessarily choose your vocal range
    5. Less viable in classical more viable in modern or musicals
    6. Just overall less popular (I'm sorry but it's just true)
    That's a run down but please don't just me on this. It's just my experience and well overall a band nerd. A MARCHING BAND NERD.

    Orchestra is the best

  • @mrpankau
    @mrpankau 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Why might one be better than the other? The repertoire? The timbre possibilities? The in-school social implications? The ethno-social demographic makeup of the ensemble? Ensemble/school culture?
    Here is how I see it: Band probably offers more social opportunities and "fun" in a secondary education environment, but for those of you band kids who wish to pursue the life of a professional musician, know that your orchestra friends in the future will be gigging three times a week while you clamor to climb the music scene ranks in order to find three gigs a month. So while band may be "better" now, orchestra will pull in the bread later.
    Either way, keep making awesome music and have fun!!

    i’m gonna tell y’all a story. once upon a time there was a beautiful concert hall. thousands of people would come every year to hear the glorious music emanate from the expansive stage. every 2 or 3 weeks, the orchestra that called the hall home would walk onstage to perform a 2 hour program consisting of pieces of unparalleled art, from beethoven to bach, from mahler to holst, from bruch to sibelius, or from vivaldi to brahms. symphonies, concertos, rhapsodies, suites, and many other works would unfold themselves on that stage for the audience to receive. tears were shed in response to the lyrical passages of emotion in barber’s adagio for strings. the exciting rapture evoked from the woodwinds’ flight of notes in shostakovich’s 10th symphony, second movement. majesty flowed from each player as they performed the beast of mahlers second symphony, complete with a 100 person choir. each member of the orchestra played their best, the second violins supported the firsts’ melodies. the violas and cellos let out a rich sound full of vibrato. the basses kept the group together, occasionally taking on the melody as well. and behind them, and army of wind instruments, glorifying their string counterparts, working in harmony. the flutes, piccolo and clarinets working their fingers in impressive fashion, the gorgeous solo from the first oboe, the lonely and haunting call from the english horn. the bassoons joined the violas and cellos on occasion as well to play beautiful lines. the contrabasson provided a deep rich sound that supported the basses. then the brass. oh the brass. have you ever heard the regal and formal announcement of a 6 piece french horn section quite like that one? the trumpets’ fanfare rang out like bells above the other sections in the orchestra. the trombones provided tone like no other and boosted the sound of the ensemble ten fold. and the lone tuba called out to let everyone there know they could handle those difficult passages as well. a complete percussion section gave incomparable texture to every sound that was emitted from the orchestra. the chimes rang like angels, the cymbal like a waterfall at its falling point, the snare drum and xylophone like hyper creatures running around rampantly. this is an orchestra. this is true passion and majesty. this is music.
    but saxophones were never there bc they dumb lol

    • @halwaffles
      @halwaffles 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Frances Brittain also. There is a lot of technique required to play both brass and woodwind instruments. Try playing for 10 measures while being unable to breath! Also, band people have to do marching band so they are basically conditioned for some of the toughest weather that I believe, (correct me if I'm wrong), orchestra kids don't have to face. Another thing too, try playing your instrument while marching to a specific coordinate on a football field while facing forward and watching the drum majors for tempo.
