Fun to watch as always. It was awesome that Rich held back till he had the right timing and dice to make a good move forward. Most players don't have that kind of patience when needed in a game. Looking forward till the next battle.
A good game despite some oversights on double goes. Nick was perhaps too passive ceding the initiative to Rich. My thinking is Nick should have run his R-35 tank into the wood line and disrupted Rich's preparations for his advance and Schwerpunkt by fire. The R-35 is a piece of crap anyway but it could have made the German preparations along the wood line far more difficult and costly IMHO. Despite gripes about walls and cover, Nick's passivity handed initiative to Rich and allowed Rich to exploit the best possible time to launch his attack. The French had to get into the German decision making process and disrupt it in order to avoid the firing squad fate which the Germans planned to give them. Hiding Rich's glasses was a good start, but not enough. Cheers and thanks for a great game lards. It was much appreciated. Looking forward to panzers along the Dyle! Keep up the great work!
Your videos are awesome! Keep this going. I ordered Chain of Command and it arrived in Bavaria in a week and a half. Great customer service! Can you put up a video about your table, gaming mat and terrain? I would love to see more of it and how you‘ve done it. Kind regards, Dominic
and on the Low walls, Low walls are light cover. That's in the rules. This was stated very early in the game before it had any effect at all that they were low walls, and Nick still moved his troops up behind it knowing it was only going to be light cover. Gripping about it later on is just sad. He could have put some of those troops in the building I think, to get hard cover😁
Playing this map tomorrow as Frenchies... must avoid 30+ dice slaughter! In the last 2 scenarios I have have not had any double phases so maybe the gods will be with me tomorrow and give me some , but hopefully at the right time unlike Nick's multiples. He was very unlucky to have everyone on 'overwatch' ready and waiting only for Rich to roll a triple! Am still debating my Support options and mulling over 5pts Barrage - could that be the French option? Risk is no Turn Ending to enable me to deploy?! Thoughts?
The key to the German victory seems to have been being able to 'sneak up' on the edge of the woods without being seen - didn't that get hashed out on the forum/group in a discussion? I thought you could move to a terrain feature (like the edge of a woods) not 'almost' a terrain feature?
You're right, but I was very careful to move with 1D6 and not get too close. I moved the full distance rolled which, actually in this case, was pretty much 1" for all the units.
Interesting game but, I do think walls and other features should be said what "they are" before a game starts. A stone wall is hardcover one would think, a little unfair I think to then just say what that feature is when it happens to be an important feature... (A wall is a wall) this I feel makes watching any game a bit arbitrary in what you might see... so I suggest it is said at the beginning for the viewers what a "terrain feature" is and its effects on a fire and defence? still other than that good game.
Not an unfair or unwise comment for the benefit of the viewers. Rather than describe the terrain before the start, when Nick moved to the wall I informed him and the camera that it was only a low wall offering light cover. In the rules is states that light cover is " hedges, standing crops, low garden walls...". Seemed to fit the bill to me.
No. The application of force against a salient won it. In the salient Nick had a Group do combat and a MMG team. However, the rifle Team within the Group de Combat could only fire from the flank of the salient. Facing me at close range Nick had 9D6 for the MMG and 10D6 for the LMG team, 19 D6 in all. I had two LMG teams (16 dice) one rifle team (5 D6) and an MMG team (10D6). That's 31D6. That's more than a 3:2 advantage with both sides in the same terrain. The result was inevitable, the phases simply served to accelerate that process. Conversely, had Nick put the Group de Combat and the MMG Team in the hard cover of the house, only the MMG Teams would have been in close range and he'd have enjoyed better cover. The Germans didn't 'win' this game, the French lost it by deploying into an indefensible salient.
A wall is a wall! Also Rich would not have had the luxury of being able to wait for a satisfactory dice throw, his senior commander would have deminded that he take the French position no matter what casualties! There should have been a time penalty certainly in this game if not in all the games played in this campaign against the Germans!! Nick was too supine in this game as well as the previous two, how ever a time advantage for Nick in delaying the Germans in the shape of reinforcements would have not been out of place perhaps adding a spine to the French commander and a kick up the bum for the German. Great games, good fun to watch, nice to see others making mistakes especially the rules authors, and Rich, stop cheating......
I'm with Nick on this one.. it's a wall. And he was very unfortunate the end of turn removed all the overwatch. I thought this was a nailed on win for the French.
I love watching Nick & Rich war game it up! Super entertaining! Cheers 🍻
"Back in the U-S, back in the U-S... back- in- the- U-S-S-R!" 🎵🎵
Love the look on Richard''s face when Nick brought out his 75mm gun !!!
Great podcast guys :)

Really enjoying this series, any plans to finish the campaign now things are returning to normal(ish)?
You guys are terrific! I can't wait to see the next game!

Wall, what wall? A great Friday night viewing!! Thanks for it👍
"Rich? Have you seen where the doormat got to?"

46:58 product placement. Rich actually mentions twice the Nick is in light cover.
Dudes...where's Part 7? :D Good stuff by the way!
Well, the first half of the vid was an enticing story of trees and doormats.
Hey Nick and Rich - I appreciate that with Lockdown things will be difficult, but any details of when the Campaign will continue ??
Mad Monk_1702 nope. I’m afraid not. We are waiting for the lock down to end.
toofatlardies Cheers - will have to watch them all again then :) such hardship
We want a tutorial of the trees, they are beautiful.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
52.20 trees from “last valley”.
Awsome campaign and videos!
I can't find the next video, is it hidden behind the wall or not wally enough?
Peter Magro we have had to stop temporarily due to lock down. To be resumed!
I'm surprise Nick is still standing after the way Rich pulled the rug from under him, by changing his wall into a pile of turnips.
Alas the French Platoon Commander's luck ran out
Ha! He got mugged off by the wall that wasnt!
Will you gents be at Salute 2020?
Great game, so when is the next game for the campaign?
Another great game chaps.
Were the Germans actually running through the woods (which would be broken ground)?!?
Right at the start of the movement in that sector, since in subsequent movements only 2 dices were used, that is.
field could have done with a nice stone wall round it to give germans other options perhaps ?

Rich did hold back waiting for the opportunity
Yup drop a mortar barrage on the woods - should ruin their day - did it work?
How did the French fare in your game?
As Napoleon would say Is He Lucky of the French Commander? Sine it appears that Nick's commander was Lucky he should be up for a promotion.
When is a wall not a wall :)
Rich, according to the rules you can't run at the double in woods, as in your first move; or have I got it wrong?
Tony
You haven’t got it wrong. I did. I can only presume that I found a path...
Rich should not have been able to fire his 75mm IG on the second time - he used a 3 and his leader was killed!

I guessed that was the case - couldn't see the rolls, but I should've assumed your usual dice rolling (leader dead, anyone?). ; )
Hahaha, jardins du mort indeed!

Too bad the French didn’t have a mortar barrage as a support option, would have stopped the Germans!
The triple phase won it

Rich cheating again (27:36). Taking his turn after Nicks triple 6 turn end ;)
Yep, I was just about to mention that too..
Worked out in the end, Rich also missed multiple turns a couple of times.
Rematch due to blatant cheating!!!!!
A pitiful display by a pair of rotters.

Other than fact it was made clear at the beginning of the scenario that it was a low, ornamental garden wall counting as light cover. #TeamRich
