lol Sometimes I forget that the PS3 fat even exists, I usually think the slim version is the standard version. Must be because the fat version was only around for a few years.
My 10 year old fatty is still going strong. It even died for a few days once when I forgot to close the window when it rained and it got really wet. But after letting it dry out completely it magically came back to life. :p
My dad sadly sold his slim boi from 2007-08 (never had a fatty) for a ps4 in 2018. Thankfully he's getting another slim boi, but it wont feel the same. EDIT: He remembers having a fatty. He might've gave it to my aunt. He might also get an Xbox series x.
In my opinion.. I like the older one better because of the backwards compatibility.. the touch buttons and the old logo.. also that little door that opens and you can put SD cards and stuff in it..
I know this is a really old video. But the Fat looks so cool. The touch sensitive buttons are cool too. And I love the Spider-man font. However, the glossy plastic always gets scratched up so easily, I feel like I'm scratching it just by looking at it.

Agreed. I very nearly ordered the Super Slim off Amazon because it was around $40 cheaper, but after going through a number of comparison videos, it definitely seems like the normal Slim is worth paying a bit more for.
One thing that nobody ever seems to mention is that when Sony makes a slim version of the console to make it slim they remove the cooling fan. i didn't notice ant ventilation holes on the slim so i would imagine they did the same as the ps2 slim and made a machine that over heats easily especially since most components in the ps3 are prone to giving off heat.
I just got the slim after my fat one just got YLOD (Yellow Light of Death). I really like how smoothly it runs and plays and it's an awesome console. Only thing I'm bummed about: I can't play my PS2 games on it :(

What I caught notice of was that when playing PS3 games (in particular the newer ones mostly) the fan would start getting pretty loud, and it would get really loud if it was a game involving lots of explosions and lots of action. It never got too loud with my PS2 games, I'm guessing because it takes less work for it to process those graphics. Then sooner or later it would cut off with the blinking red light. Then just recently before it did this again, I saw yellow show up for a split second, and I knew I was screwed. I got myself a slim now that I'm gonna use for my PS3 games. I'm gonna open up the fat one and attempt to clean it out and repair it myself. If I get it up and running, I'm ONLY gonna play PS2 games in it.

That is not the original 60gb. The original 60gb modle had a SD port, a compact flash port and something else I can't remember. Furthermore, the original ps3 had 4 USB ports and FULL BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY!!!!
I say ps3 fat just because if you have the cooler on the side, u dont have to worry about over heating. Ps3 Slim on the other hand, look at it, its smaller so all the parts on the inside are going to be more compacted on the inside, but it doesnt use as much power as the fat. So therefore, its kind of a win win. It just comes down to what look u like better.
I need to tell you this is not the 60gb. its one of the two 80gb's or it might be the 40gb, the 60 had 4 usb slots and the ports on the back were to the right of the system not left. also it had a silver chrome finish on front instead of just silver paint. you can tell cause you cant see you refection through it. the ps3 60gb also used transparent black glass, which was a little bit more expensive than the 80's and 40 solid black glass and much much more than the slim. the slim has a matte finish but is very cheap compared to the 60. slim uses plastic instead of glass. the original sixaxis controller was made of transparent black plastic which was only included in the 60gb consoles, compared to slims dualshock3 solid black plastic. the 60 20 and first model 80gb were the only ps3's with full backwards compatibility including all ps1 and ps2 games, 2nd model 80 and 40gb only played ps1, like all ps3's today. the 60gb was and still is the one and only monster console, I wish the ps4 had backwards compatibility, it would be the 2nd monster system in history, hoping the next model has is badly! fingers crossed! but other than that mess up, good video bro thumbs up for me keep it up
I really wish that I had a PS3 fat. By the time I got around to getting a PS3 this year, the only way that I could get one was by spending $250 on a slim. If I had $600 to spend on a 80 GB backwards compatible PS3 that looks infinitely cooler, I definitely would have spent it.

like all electronic items, it only takes time to new and smaller components to come along and is what has probably happened, the power supply was much bigger in the phat one as it seemed to have the same motherboard due to the same locations of the ports (unless they're on a seperate board) For example, the ps2 phat vs slim, if you took away the psu off the phat and made it external to the unit, you would see that the phat one would virtually be the same size of the slim one.
I have the fatty and the thing I like about it that the slim doesn't are the touch sensitive buttons and how you can stand it up vertically and it won't fall off easy, and how in this video he stood it up nice and easy and it started shaking so that is reason why the weight is good
Overpriced? The PS4 is realizing for about $400 for the Core package and about $500 for another package. And the cost for making one is about $800-$900. Also, you wouldn't be expecting hundreds of games on the first day of the release. There are going to be some pretty decent releases, like Watchdogs, Killzone, and The Witness.
There is a big difference that should be disturbing between the slim and fat, they both have the same game features but think about the power consumption you'll realize that the fat one consume more, the fat one always have a power off problem when it comes to malfunctioning.

Making an original PS3 would be much cheaper now. The hardware in PS3 is a few years old and have gone down in price to make.

I really wish that I had a PS3 fat. By the time I got around to getting a PS3 this year, the only way that I could get one was by spending $250 on a slim. If I had $600 to spend on a 80 GB backwards compatible PS3 that looks infinitely cooler, I definitely would have spent it.

It was wierd. PS3 fat had touch sensitive.. and xbox 360 had real buttons.. and then they came out with the xbox 360 slim and PS3 Slim.. and the ps3 slim had real buttons.. and xbox 360 had touch sensitive buttons.. huh.. like they both thought they had bad ideas.. strange..
I love my 60GB model, it looks so sexy in a room, I am sooooo upset that it got YLOD after 5 years of having it with absolutely no problems! Gonna get a slim now

i still dont see why sony downgraded from touch buttons to push buttons
like all electronic items, it only takes time to new and smaller components to come along and is what has probably happened, the power supply was much bigger in the phat one as it seemed to have the same motherboard due to the same locations of the ports (unless they're on a seperate board)
For example, the ps2 phat vs slim, if you took away the psu off the phat and made it external to the unit, you would see that the phat one would virtually be the same size of the slim one.
I have the fatty and the thing I like about it that the slim doesn't are the touch sensitive buttons and how you can stand it up vertically and it won't fall off easy, and how in this video he stood it up nice and easy and it started shaking so that is reason why the weight is good

Overpriced? The PS4 is realizing for about $400 for the Core package and about $500 for another package. And the cost for making one is about $800-$900. Also, you wouldn't be expecting hundreds of games on the first day of the release. There are going to be some pretty decent releases, like Watchdogs, Killzone, and The Witness.

There is a big difference that should be disturbing between the slim and fat, they both have the same game features but think about the power consumption you'll realize that the fat one consume more, the fat one always have a power off problem when it comes to malfunctioning.
Does it have any different in graphics between the newer gen (120gb-500gb) and the older ones (20gb-80gb). PLEASE REPLY GUYS! THANKS
