- Cavapoo puppies are an excellent dog breed for many, but did you know that they can often be picky eaters? When we first brought Sophie home, she was always excited to eat her dog food and she always ate very quickly. Now that she's a little older she tends to not eat her dog kibble and I became very worried when she wouldn't eat.
If you have a cavapoo just like Sophie, or just a picky eater, I have some tips, tricks and solutions that work great with Sophie and I'm sure would work with your dog too!

Thank you for all your support! 💜
this was extremely helpful, my Cavapoo puppy stopped eating his regular meals a couple days ago, I just went over and put the kibble in my hand and boom! back to eating his full meals! Thank you
I'm so happy to hear that the strategies are working for you!
This was super helpful.... i didn't know that cavapoos are picky eaters but these are tips i'm going to save for sure.... i also love that Sophie just stayed so sleepy behind you she's so sweet!!!!!
That's great to hear! I hope these tips can be helpful for you in the future. 😊
I realized I was giving TOO many treats, since my cavapoo is a toy and is only 3 lbs. it was killing her appetite. Now, I grind up her favorite treat with a fork and pour the dust on her kibble. Picky eating solved! Good luck, everyone!
I need to try this. My 2 lb 10 weekend is skipping meals but loving the treats.
I named my dog Sophie before watching this video which made me happy!
🌹Hello, Nessa. Thank you for sharing such an informative video. As fellow dog lovers, we appreciate your furry friend's presence in the video. We have a 5-month-old Cavapoo named Aggie, and she loved watching the video with us. We're new to your Channel and have subscribed and liked your video, 298.
Your dedication to providing high-quality content is commendable, and we're excited to see more from you in the future.
🙏🏻May God bless you and lovely Sophie,
Sonja, Christopher, and Aggie -
Red Cardinal Kitchen.
She got smart! Plain kibble is crap. Add ins are great! She trained you
I have an 11-month-old Mini Goldendoodle who has been picky from day 1 when I got her 7 months ago. I have tried changing her bowl with a plate, slow feeder, snuffle mat, puzzle, etc. Some changes have worked for a few days but do not seem to be effective. Although I am not keen on doing so, I am currently hand feeding her. She will not eat kibble or canned dog food; she likes but doesn't love air-dried dog food (chicken flavor). Thanks for the video.
I have a dachshund but I bought a snuffle mat before the video ended! Thank you!
Omg that is so funny, my cavapoo's name is Sophie also!
You are describing my 4.8 mth old toy poodle, lol
Yorkie are very picky too.
Not my Yorkies...they eat raw..Primal and Small Batch or my homemade. I don't feed any kibble to them.
I need help. I have a 7 month old Chorkie who has lost interest in ALL her food. She will NOT eat ANYTHING! I took her to her Vet and the irony is she’s NOT losing weight, she has puppy energy, but yet she won’t eat! I have fed her the BEST of EVERY brand. Wet, dry, mixed, any and everything BUT JUNK kibble. But for one day I catered and she wouldn’t even eat that. I don’t over treat, or, feed her table food. At the moment I have her on The Farmer’s Dog and I am experiencing the same issue…
My Chawowa won't eat any dogfood .iv even watched her not eat for 2days . Then I gave her tunafish. Finally she loves air dried dogfood.
I think alot of dogs like kibble, or they just get tired of earing kibble. Could you imagine eating the same thing everyday? Dogs like human need some variety with there food, a kibble only diet would just suck for anyone
They should get a job and buy food they want 😂
I have a 4 month old cavapoo and I literally thought that something was wrong with him. I had no idea that cavapoo's were picky!
I just got a dog 2 days ago🤩🤩🤩 end thankyou for this video end my dog 🐶 don’t eat a lot end water 💦 end i am also new on yiur amazing video end this is my first time seeing your videos not videos just this one end my dog is a baby
this is what my mini doodle does the same thing no line
Hi I was wondering if Sophie is still a finicky eater? My toy Aussie has been finicky since 8 weeks, he’s six months now and I play fetch and tug to get him to eat outta my hand! It’s so frustrating lol
Sophie is still definitely a picky eater but she's gotten so much better and it's been a lot easier to manage! I can definitely understand the stress you must be feeling with your puppy and how difficult it must be to get your puppy to eat.
I actually updated this video because I discovered a new way that gets Sophie to eat, if you want to watch the new video here's the link: th-cam.com/video/riRn70lYOdI/w-d-xo.html. I wanted to show you guys how I use Sophie's crate to get her to eat, I definitely recommend checking it out!
i have a 10 month old jack-a-poo with kidney disease. it breaks my heart when she doesnt eat! i hope these tips help us out
I'm so sorry to hear that, I hope that one of these tips will work and that she's doing ok.
very helpful
Going through this right now. It’s miserable. Doesn’t want to eat. I’ve spent a fortune on various food. Wet, dry, everything. Toppers and broth don’t work. She refuses to eat
I totally understand your struggles it can be very stressful, try our new trick that I mention here in our updated video: th-cam.com/video/riRn70lYOdI/w-d-xo.html
We have two puppies. Almost 6 months old. They are the same as Sofie. I have spent a fortune on different foods.
Yep me right now, loves her wet / chicken. Doesn’t touch her kibble tho
Are you giving your dog too many treats? Puppies are usually picky eaters and become the devourer of worlds when they get older.
Give less treats and they will eat
My cavapoo is exactly the same. Mine’s got a poultry allergy though, so our choice of kibble has been limited.
Having a poultry allergy must definitely makes things more difficult, have you found anything that works?
@@NessaandSophie Hi, we have to cook him homemade dinners 😂 I used to have special dog food delivered for him, but he went off those too. He’s so awkward lol. I wish he’d eat kibble though, I worry he does t get all the nutrients he needs from homemade food.
@@chrissy8386 I can only imagine the stress of homemade meals, it must be a complicated process to ensure that he's getting all the necessary vitamins and nutrients.
@@NessaandSophie I’ve been following some vet approved recipes, but I’ve just discovered that popping some salmon oil on his dry food gets him to eat it. So hopefully we’ll carry on with that now.
Fabulous video Nessa! Dear Sweet Sophie clever as ever ❤❤❤
Thank you! 😊
Sophie is Willows twin they are so similar this is handy to know about the food and has given us idea's so great post, 👍
Willow is absolutely adorable! 😊 Thank you, I'm so glad this video helps!
@@NessaandSophie we are learning so much from your channel its just amazing willow is very spoilt, we watch you guys all the time and we love what you do❤👍
My Cavapoo named Missy is five months old but I’ve always had a problem with her eating and since I gave her table food to mix with her food she ate it did pretty good and then she got tired of that she just picked add it got what she thought was all of it and wouldn’t eat her food I don’t know what to do
Sophie was the same way, I think she may have gotten bored of the same meal toppers we were giving her so we really had to switch it up and try other dog foods. Have you tried any meal toppers that your local pet food store sells?
I dont give my dog any treats or meat till they are 12 months
What food do you use?
In this video at the time she was eating Royal Canin, but we've been trying other food brands and flavours to find one she actually enjoys eating. I'll be updating this video next month because we've tried a lot of new things and I think we might have found something that worked!
Missy Hass to have puppy food Sophie is a year old so she can be on regular food
@@suesachaj687 We're fortunate enough to have lots of puppy dog food options available and our pet store actually let's us test food and return it if our pet's don't like it or if they have a negative reaction to it. Have you tried another brand of puppy dog food?
I’m starting to think Sophie was a human in her former life. 😕
She’s a little princess now, but look out for the diva when she becomes a lady!😂🥰
She does have very silly reactions to things that always makes me wonder what she's thinking and she can be very dramatic! 😊
My 5 month old cavapoo has been picky since day 1 and it’s driving me crazy. We’re trying to do the meal disciplining by putting down the food for 30 minutes and then taking it away but it only works towards the later part of the day. During the mornings he just won’t even eat and by lunch or post lunch around 4 he gets really hungry and will wolf down his whole meal. Idk how long it is going to take him to get the point that this is his food. Adding toppers or anything extra to his food only makes him more picky, he gets eats it for a few days and wants something better. Sorry about this long rant. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I totally understand your struggle, these tips I provide in the video do help but there are just some days where Sophie refuses to eat and I have the same thing happen where she's more likely to eat her dinner food rather than breakfast (I think it's because when she eats less at breakfast she's hungrier for dinner).
Our breeder recommended doing the meal disciplining but I find it doesn't make a difference with picky eaters, because they don't want it regardless of how long it stays out. What I've been doing with Sophie recently that's been working is using a variety of soft fruits and cooked veggies mushed up in her bowl. If we make a meal with broccoli for dinner, I'll mush up a tree into her food and save an extra piece for the morning and do the same. I always change up the veggies we use (safe for dogs of course), so it could be cooked carrots, cabbage, spinach etc. Sometimes I'll choose a fruit instead to add to her food, as long as it's in moderation and small amounts, it helps Sophie eat and I'm not worrying about her missing meals and losing vital nutrients. Cavapoos are REALLY smart so you literally have to mush it into their food otherwise they'll pick out the good stuff and leave behind their food. I really hope this helps!
@@NessaandSophie thanks for your response. I tried this and it worked to some extent but what has been working so far is some boiled chicken mixed with kibble. But I do think my pup gets bored of toppers quickly. He was excited about boiled egg topper for some days and now doesn’t want anything to do with it. If you could do a video on store bought and homemade food toppers that mix well with kibble for picky eaters that would be great.
@@vaishnavis9645 I'm glad to hear something helped. Have you tried switching foods yet? Since Sophie's turned a year old, I've been trying out different foods and different toppers. I know you're a little more restricted as he's still a puppy and can only eat puppy food. I'm still figuring Sophie out to see what's working best but once I've tried enough strategies I can definitely update this video and talk more about toppers.
@@NessaandSophie thanks for your response. I have been trying a few store bought meal mixtures which have worked well. Thanks for your suggestions though. It really did make our lives easier once we started the meal toppers 😊
@@vaishnavis9645 I'm so happy to hear that and thanks for providing an update. I've actually had to change Sophie's eating routine a bit but surprisingly it's working out well, I'll share an update next month. Until then I hope we'll both be enjoying the feeling of less stress when it comes to feeding our puppies. 😊
Dam I'm having big issues with my little guy. its even more difficult, because he's allergic to chicken. plus doesn't really like fish.
I'm sorry to hear that, especially having a chicken allergy must make it even more challenging to find the right food. Have you tried a brand with a lamb option?
Kibble is not good for dogs, no wonder she refuses it. She wants normal food. Mine refuses all food so these tips were not really helpful unfortunately
Not informative at all. We knew that. Not playing games for food.
I don’t understand why people cater to thrive dogs. Give them good healthy food and if they are hungry enough they will eat it. Just like a kid only wants hot dogs and Mac and cheese. Don’t give in.
