    What a fantastic work you are doing, Bjorn - not just with bonsai and education - with recording these bosai masters and capturing their timeless trees on video. Infinite strength to you.

    Seeing the picture in the book of the same tree from 1979 was really something special.

    Best wishes for 2024 in Japan. A courageous move after all your efforts in the USA. In 3 years when my wife retires. I hope to tour some bonsai nurseries and shows and share this inspiration with her. My humble garden holds around 60 bonsai and curating and developing them gives me enormous peace.

    If I ever needed a restart in life, I think I'd move to Japan (if they would let me) and become an apprentice bladesmith or bonsai caretaker. Devote my life to solitude and hard work under the guide of a master craftsman. Sounds so refreshing with everything going on in the world

      You’ll basically be an indentured servant. Scrubbing toilets, cleaning ash trays, doing dishes etc.
      I’m not saying it isn’t worthwhile. I’m just saying to not romanticize it too much.

    what i appreciate most about these videos, isn't really the trees, but just watching someone live their true and full life. i've accomplished a lot of things since watching you put together your garden in the US. a very no nonsense : this is what i want, this is how to do it, this is me doing it approach.

    The goodbye from the US was bittersweet, but it's definitely fantastic to see you in Japan again.
    I've also been to Japan recently after more than five long years of not being able to go due to Covid etc. It surely felt like coming home again.
    It must be exciting being back again for you, too. I'm very much looking forward to all the future videos🗾
    The White Dragon is gorgeous! Very fitting for the year of the dragon, too 🐉

    Fantastic tree. I have to ask, instead of cutting off the lower branch, why not air layer it off? With such a rare tree it seems a shame to waste a part of it.

    When its time to cut off the lower branch, can you make that branch into a bonsai itself? I know you can wrap some branches in sphagnum moss, and it will grow roots. Hopefully you can do this with the lower branch so it will be saved and maybe name it "Son of Hakuryuu" or as Google Translate says "Hakuryuuu no Musuko"

  • @Depotmaster
    @Depotmaster 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I can't believe to hear "the lower branches begin to sag, it's odd". Most bonsaians put a lot of effort into pulling lower branches down to make them look old. And he says, the tree does that naturally, so why "odd"?
