Love my 3030i’s. Easy to drive, smooth sound throughout the frequency range, and sound great at low level listening. Surprisingly, physically large speakers though, so they take up a good amount of floor space.
What about treble or upper midrange. Some say they are tilted up a little bit.I like smooth sounding speakers for long listening sessions and i can not tolerate bright sounding speakers more than 10 min. At what distance from the back wall do they play?Would you consider them warm sounding speakers?Which amp they are playing with?
@@andreassouth1523 The 3030i’s character seems to change a bit, depending on your amp. With my low powered class D amp, they are smooth and rolled off at the top. But, I recently bought a Rega Brio, which really woke up the speakers driving a bit more power. With the Brio, the speakers sound a little more forward sounding in the top end, giving the speaker a bit more presence. The 3030i’s seem to have a lot of synergy with Rega amps, because it sounds really good. The speakers don’t sound tilted up or shrill at all to me. They still have a smooth tone with the Brio, but there is a lot more detail & dynamics coming through. The speakers are slightly on the warmer side of neutral, and they change a bit depending on what you’re using to drive them. I give them around 3ft of space behind them from the wall. And I listen between 5-8ft away at lower listening levels.
I have the 3020i speakers in walnut and , just like the 3030i they are a beautiful looking high quality speaker . Great deals out there now around 199euro for the 3020i . Exceptional speaker and very relaxing to listen over extended period . Very pleased with my purchase
I’ve got some 3050’s but I would really love some of their new top end speakers, they look amazing. I’ve been buying speakers from Q Acoustics since their early days. They’ve never made a ‘bad’ speaker (maybe some slightly dodgy subs), but their speakers have always been incredible for the money.
These are some seriously impressive speakers. 4 colour ranges, great modern curves, simple design approach - I can see alot of people picking up these on the looks alone.
It's a daunting task, but today someone looking for a good beginner audio system has a great selection of good performing gear from $700 - $1500 system price. Certainly wasn't that way when I got started in audio 40 years ago. Good informative video as usual. Ps those Q acoustics have the wife factor covered
My system comprises of the Q acoustic 3020i, powernode 2i and the project essential 3 Bluetooth turntable🤣🤣👍👍 Excellent review of the 3030i keep up the excellent reviews 👏👏👏👏👏
Nice combo I guess. How does it work when you want to spin a vinyl? Do you have to use the bluos app to change the input or it does switch automatically to the vinyl input?
Only person on TH-cam I feel compelled to watch right to the very end. It’s a Mug’s game. “Mr Darko, I want to know if those speakers sound more musical after 3 cups of that coffee?”
Great review. I bought original the 3020s to replace my 20 year old Polk floorstanders a year or so ago for less than $600 AUD including stands. I don't have a lot of experience listening to different speakers or systems. However the first thing that stood out to me was how good they are with vocals, especially female vocals, and the mid range in general. Imaging also stood out, more so with my new Yamaha 2 channel amp. I also find the other sweet spot is what I can only describe as dollop like sounds. Think xylophones, keyboards or dripping water in cave or the TV series Westworld which has lots of these sounds. This, the strong vocals and imaging make them great for TV and movies. For the same reason they are great with 80s pop. Their only weakness is grunge and heavy rock most likely due to the lazy (mid) bass you mention but I tend save that for the car. Bass and sound stage is easily deepened and broadened respectively with a decent sub (with the luxury of being able to tune to your needs and mood).
I've been rocking the 2050i as my main floorstanders for 7 years now. They are pretty insane for the price :) The sound signature is almost exactly how you explain. Very mild, pleasant and well tempered. Very British! Bass extension aside, they actually sound kind of like my Empyreans!
I have the old Q2020i with the q acoustic stands ( Not my main system.) Q Acoustics produce pretty good speakers and are quite sharp when it comes to stereo imaging especially the tweeter.
I was looking at getting a set of the 3030i's for a new bedroom system, On looking I found a pair of brand new 3020i's in white for 200euros so I grabbed em while I could. I've got them paired with my Quad Vena II amp but so far I've only run them for an hour & only on bluetooth from my phone so I'll reserve judgement for a while. Thanks for the vid, interesting as always and good to see some more affordable gear.👍
I have the original 3020's. I've found placement is crucial and was amazed by the difference simply by isolating the speakers, creating more space around them. I also have them toed in slightly. A little tweaking usually goes a long way. Suppose you could say the same for most speakers. I also have the foam bungs inserted. Most don't like them but I have the speakers paired with a BK sub so the bungs help reduce excessive bass. The QA's are head and shoulders above another brand I tried in the same price range. Excellent value for money.
How do you like the Quad Vena? I'm looking at building a discreet setup in the living room and both the Q Acoustics 3020i and Quad Vena are on my shopping list!
Hi John, very nice video as always. My home office system consists of a Powernode 2i, Piega Classic 3.0 and an Elac 2030 Sub. I love it! The Q-Accustice 3020i were on the shortlist. Maybe the 3030i would have stood up to the much more expensive Piegas. But in the video you say the Powernode 2i costs "around 1100 ..." Your dealer ripped you off. It costs 899 € list and 865 € in online trading. My local dealer offers it to good customers for under 800 €.
Just got my first pair of bookshelf speakers a few months after getting decent headphones, iem’s and surround sound in the living room, all of these audio channels cost me a fortune 😂 Interested to see how they work for tv without a centre channel, need to wait for my stands which come tomorrow to evaluate it
I finally settled on a pair of Jamo S803s ( ONKYO TX-NR535 ) and like you, because I like the way they looked. Plus front firing base and Reviews. At another location I have B&W and KEF also on my computer I have vintage B&W Solid (still going strong) Love the new tech which allows me to use the Nobsound Mini Bluetooth + AUX+USB Power Amplifier on my PC desk to power the Solids. I enjoy all your reviews /subscribed long ago.
They always looked awesome to me even better than the kefs ls50 w that I previously liked. The set up that you made has taken it to a all new level of aesthetic s . And the praise coming from you is like the icing on the cake . Thanks John.
Great Video, John. I love your content. I often think that looks are over neglected in hi fi audio systems. I suggest to try the Jamo Speakers, since they are lovely too. It is a shame that they aren't as inexpensive in Europe as they are in US. But I believe they are a great starting point also.
For my first HiFi, and therefore very budget conscious, I bought a pair of Q Acoustics 3010i's paired with a Denon RCD-M41DAB amplifier and I'm incredibly happy and not sure how I could of got better quality at this price point.
I have a pair of the older 3020’s for over 5 years and a pair of Bucharest S400s which I bought a couple of months ago. I do like the S400s more but I will say one thing about 3020s which is the same as what mentioned in the video. When it comes to the dialogue in films, they’re much more forward sounding the S400s. I find myself riding the volume dial throughout films. I was watching Fight Club the other night and forgot I had the volume up at the plane crash scene. It nearly ripped the house down!!! 😂 I can’t complain about the 3020s though. They’re awesome!!
I started my hifi journey few years ago with 3020 model and really liked them. They served well connected to Denon CEOL listening CDs and Spotify. I even had my TV connected via optical.
I agree with everything Darko said about the 3030i's but the soung at low listening volume. Paired with my Hegel H95 I have the perception of low details on the low frequencys at low volumes. Great speakers for the price and very nice.
My pair seems to have quite a bit of a roll off in high frequency range. But I love the bass a lot and not ready to give it up. They are paired with Cambridge Audio CXA61. Maybe that’s the reason. Not sure… Ordered some QED cables to see if that makes any difference because I’m currently using some budget cables from GearIT.
Thank you! I'm "all at sea" having sold my Kanto YU6. Had them three years and never gelled with them. They sounded great at higher volume but turned down went a bit naff. The 3020i is of a similar size (bit deeper). Also on my shortlist is the Dali Spector 2 and the Acoustic Energy ae100 ii. My listening room is small (4m x 4m x 4m) and is therefore the worst possible shape for anything to sound good 😔
Beautiful review. Will it be a perfect match for the Audiolab 6000A? I own this Amp with me and looking for an allrounder budget speaker for it. I have these 3030i in my short list.... would like to know your opinion on this combination.
Q Acoustics are laid back speakers which provide good long hours listening, mid volume, background music all day long while you're doing household chores, cooking, yoga etc. Whereas Klipsch are in your face music, which you wana sit properly, serious listening and play some very detailed music such as listening to the breath of the singer or a cello string slide sound while changing chords. But only listen for a short period of time. And there you have it, 2 different kind of setups.
Thank you for the video. One thing though that's always omitted, is where do you put the speakers ? Because here, on your setup, these stands may cost 3 to 500 $, and it gets worse with more expensive speakers (look KEF LS/R3 or B&W matching stands for a good laugh, and that's when you can get them). Good stands are a must, since those cheap, flimsy 100 $ stands are usually unaesthetic and beyond unstable... So... How much were the stands shown here, just to get a rough idea ?
Nice review. I love the looks of these speakers too. I also have the Atacama Nexus stands but in black which I could paint white to match these. I wonder if they would be a good match to the brilliant Audiolab 6000a!
Hi John nice video as usual - it would be interesting to see a video about eBay audiophile systems - it enables people to upgrade so it does support manufacturers indirectly - I am currently running an extremely basic: arcam rcube £80 eBay, audioquest beetle £80 eBay chromecast audio £25 new chromecast lan power adapter £20 new, audioquest toslink cable £20 new.... streams Spotify etc. well and also from tv - sounds good - but now I’m on the trail i am thinking “where next.. for £2k ish.. what could I get new or from eBay...?” Thoughts..?
Great review. love the setup in white. I'm new here and have just subscribed... I've just got the Marantz Melody X M-CR612 for a good price recently. Do those speakers come in black ? I've got the Zensor 1 on my separates system paired with the PM6006 and the Audio Technica LPT5, Marantz CD63 mkII, Tascam Md350, Technics RS-AZ7 but not sure about what to get for the Marantz Melody X .. would love to know your thoughts and suggestions.
Watch the Absolutely Fabulous White Box sketch... Fair play it does look lovely ☺️ the amp/streamer has a phono stage? And your hair is fine, ye great jessie. 😉🏴
Hi, thank you for the video... I was wondering if the short pieces of music that are played along your review of the 3030I were recorded from the 3030i, or is it just a general recording you play in other videos. Any insight welcome...
Hi John. I really like your videos since I've been watching them now for about three years. You are a very good communicator when it comes to explaining sounds and music and how it interacts with the gear that you test/use. I also am getting into some of the music that you like and was wondering if you have a list somewhere (I checked your TH-cam channel and couldn't find one) about some of the bands and artists you really like. You turned me and my wife onto Calibre with the album Planet Hearth. and Destroyer with Kaputt. But was hoping that you could relay that info or at least a brief list to your audience so that we can actively get and support these artists and enlightening us to new music that we may have never heard before. Thanks for your consideration. Keep up the great work! :)
Excellent vid, John. But if you have a budget of €2000 for a starter system, wouldn't it be wise to spend at least 50% of that on speakers. Just my two cents. Keep up the good work.
I was looking into these when buying a new, smaller setup at home, but ultimately my choice fell on the Triangle Borea BR03. I was not disappointed. I actually prefer the Boreas more, rectangular (like a normal speaker) look. The Qs are supposed to be ace though, good review. Thanks Mr. Darko!
Excellent review! What about wrfs 12.2s in comparison with 3030i.Similar price in my country.Which has the most refined/smooth highs and the strongest/deepest bass. Also which has the most prominent/natural mids.
John, nice video! A couple of things I might add for your consideration: 1: As a new proud owner of a few REL T/9i subwoofers. I would bet you that a T/i (9,7 or 5) subwoofer in gloss white would look great with that system, but while also add a lot to the overall sound! 2. As for your list of affordable standmount speakers I would add the ELAC UniFi B5 speakers. I owned a pair and liked them very much. Now my daughter is enjoying them.
was looking at these for my office set-up but man they are big. They're almost as big as KEF R3/Reference1 and I don't have the space for them in the office. So I went with lsx white ofc. White speakers look the best ( i got 3 pairs of whites so far ) As for the sound, I want to see how they compare with kef q350 as they are pretty similar in price and size right now. Waiting for the shops to start auditions soon as I can't bring any more speakers home...
Hi John, Q-ACOUSTIC Concept 300 Vs. 3030i: you tried both, of course different performance class and different price level, the question is: which one is the best for you for what regard the price/performance ratio? Thanks.
Very nice video, as always. Btw, what about the turntable plugged on the powernode 2i? For a vinyl lover, would you rather recommend a class AB amp instead of D class?
A few months back I got the 3020is as rear surround speakers for my home theatre system - tried them out in a stereo configuration first and was really impressed. Just a shame that the Q Acoustics stands for them (which it looks like you have- the 3000FSi's) are too short for me (just 20cm too low to go behind my couch).
I can tell you I'm very satisfied with pairing the original 3020's with the BK Gemini ii. Like the speakers the sub is very good value for money. I've noticed the 3030i goes quite a bit lower, down to 46Hz. My 3020's start at 64Hz, sub crossover set at 65Hz. BK Electronics line of subs run from budget to higher end. I noticed better blending with the sub when I inserted the foam bungs. However I have no doubt the floorstanders would be great speakers in their own right. Perhaps begin by purchasing a pair of speakers you really like, you can always consider adding bass later (even floorstanders can be supplemented well with subs)
It really depends on the size of your room. Rel t5i or Svs sb1000 for smaller rooms, just move up one or two in the series for mid sized rooms, larger rooms.
Hi John, Just joined your channel. Would you advise this speakers for any kind of music? I own a pair of Q2020 which are very clear with organic / analogue but work badly for electronic music. Thanks
John, just curious, is there one track you ( almost ) always listen to when listening to new speakers? Before knowing its character you have to choose. BTW love your playlists, they've drawn me into electronics after 50 years of acoustic music.
Hi John great review as always I think any of the QA range is of consideration especially if budget is playing into the mix I my self have QA concept 20 speakers which I alternate between a vintage set of. Monitor Audio R352 speakers And to be honest they more than hold their own Cupel all this with outstanding build quality Stylish looks wats not to like l have also noticed recently that the designer stands that where available when I obtained mine have come down in price So maybe something else a potential buyer may consider Yes as you rightly pointed out that the base is is limited As one would be expected in a relatively small cabinet But certainly in my case with the concept 20 it in no way detracts from the overall performance Plus lets not forget your speakers are the latest model So will be much in proved on from my earlier design Hope my experience with this brand will give potential buyers Some added insight to make an informed decision But I have to admit you pretty much nailed it anyway 😆 Best wishes and kind regards to you and all your many supports Mike in the U.K.
I've been hearing good things about q acoustics. How do they compare against Bowers and Wilkins 685s2 speakers? Those retailed for about 600.00 United States dollars back in 2015.
How do they compare to Elac debut B6? They’re in the same ball park. I can listen to the Elac for hours with no fatigue. Treble it’s well tamed. I’d heard the 3020i and found them to be slightly forward.
Im still on the fence on these..I have a small room atm..With a NAD C368 with Blue OS module..and a NAD C558 TT..I listen to mostly rock and metal..Will these work good with NAD? :)
I Always Like your Style of Presentation and the topics you are in ! Thank you for that ! And, as mostly Always, the music that's Played. Question: WHO is it in this Video ? I don't have a Spotify Account and i haven't found the Interpret in the comments, maybe i am blind....;-)
Hi there At the moment I have got a pair of audioengine a2+ with my marantz CD player A2 because of Bluetooth/Spotify And cd because occasionally I’ll play cds Would amp and new speakers make a big difference
Hello, nice review, thank you so much. Please can you tell me what type of banana plug is the best for this speakers? I want to plug them to a Yamaha A-S501 amp but not sure what are the best banana plug for them. Thank you!
I found it useful (4 years later, when these speakers are a steal), so thank you.

I think you can find something a bit better, more in the middle between the two. On my way to test Wharfedale Diamond 12.2s and Focal Chora 806!
I like all your videos ! Not only these one
I watch these first before any of my other subscriptions
Mission LX2 for the win!
Hi,
thank you for the video...
Yes. Speaker first
But a €2000 budget wasn't my starting point. The 3030i were, to which I added other white components for an all white system...which summed to €2000.
@@DarkoAudio Point taken.
Q Acoustics are great but musical mug is a must have! order placed.
how satisfying is that little peel on the logo?
its a small moment you savour... hits deep in the psyche lol
Another great video. Thanks. I’m still waiting for you to do the q acoustics concept 500’s. 😂😂😂😂
Andrew Robinson did a video about them I think.
I’m very interested in the Qacoustic line to be added to my inventory of speakers.
You could try out the Dynaudio Emit 10 at this price point (600€). :-)
Emit 10's sound amazing for their size and price.
John, nice video! A couple of things I might add for your consideration:
1: As a new proud owner of a few REL
T/9i subwoofers.
White speakers look the best ( i got 3 pairs of whites so far )
As for the sound, I want to see how they compare with kef q350 as they are pretty similar in price and size right now.
Did you ever get an answer on how the turntable is plugged in and what class of amp? Did you get the powernode?
Good video.... as allways
Very nice real world review! ;)
Looks really good,I have Denon pma600+ buesound node 2i + Q acoustic 3050i. I'm wondering what would be the next item of the 3 to upgrade?
Looks great!!! Now John, a white REL T5i or two would look and improve your experience tremendously. Do you use subs?
Darko Audio, you need to get your hands on Elac BS-312. They are made in Germany, very compact high end speakers with no reviews.
Oh my, I spotted, Closer - Joy Division...
Would a Marantz nr1200 or an emotiva basx ta100 be a good amp for 3020i? Or should i spend a Little More and go for the powernode?
Which subwoofer would you suggest with this speaker for a 2.1 setup?
Or
Just buy the tower speakers?
REL is what I would recommend.T5i or T7i depending on room size.
I am thinking about buying a set of these or the 3020i to pair with my Pioneer NC50DAB. I hope to get the same good result as you do John :)
Hi John,
Just joined your channel. Would you advise this speakers for any kind of music? I own a pair of Q2020 which are very clear with organic / analogue but work badly for electronic music.
Thanks
Hey John, I was wondering if filling speaker stands with sand really make a difference with speakers around this price point?
Not sand, but you may wish to try Postcrete. Pour some powder, then water until you get to the top.
I used lead shot years ago, worked beautifully and no mess
It will always give you a benefit since it absorbs vibrations that would otherwise go till the floor.
@@amb3cog I pulled the trigger on S400-s and paired them with Dynaudio stands - loving them so far
John, just curious, is there one track you ( almost ) always listen to when listening to new speakers? Before knowing its character you have to choose.
BTW love your playlists, they've drawn me into electronics after 50 years of acoustic music.
For Marantz mr611 what you recomend, q acoustics 3030i, dynaudio emit 10, monitor audio bronze 100
Nice video! How does this system compare to KEF LS50W?
I've been hearing good things about q acoustics. How do they compare against Bowers and Wilkins 685s2 speakers? Those retailed for about 600.00 United States dollars back in 2015.
Certainly looks great....
How do they compare to Elac debut B6?
They’re in the same ball park. I can listen to the Elac for hours with no fatigue. Treble it’s well tamed. I’d heard the 3020i and found them to be slightly forward.
As always, great review! How does it compare with the Q Acoustics Concept20? Both are in a similar price range I guess.
No idea. Sorry.
Im still on the fence on these..I have a small room atm..With a NAD C368 with Blue OS module..and a NAD C558 TT..I listen to mostly rock and metal..Will these work good with NAD? :)
Marantz pm7000n and 3030is might also be a nice match for the warm sound loving minority?
I Always Like your Style of Presentation and the topics you are in ! Thank you for that ! And, as mostly Always, the music that's Played. Question: WHO is it in this Video ? I don't have a Spotify Account and i haven't found the Interpret in the comments, maybe i am blind....;-)
Small Room with an old amplifier Yamaha CA610: this speakers or the Wharfedale 12.0?
Thanks in advance..!
Hi there
At the moment I have got a pair of audioengine a2+ with my marantz CD player
A2 because of Bluetooth/Spotify
And cd because occasionally I’ll play cds
Would amp and new speakers make a big difference
Hello, nice review, thank you so much. Please can you tell me what type of banana plug is the best for this speakers? I want to plug them to a Yamaha A-S501 amp but not sure what are the best banana plug for them. Thank you!
Please compare these to the DALI Spektor 2s. They're in the same price range (in the US) and both generally impress.
electric scruff look John, can't wait for that eye makeup!
How do these compare to the concept 20s or even the 40s? The concept 40s are currently on offer for £500.
