Awesome, always wondered how a wifi enabled 5D MarkIV would work and seeing as I just got a brand spanking new one, I'll be setting up both the WiFi Laptop and Phone connection to see which is better for my application (Product Photos). Thanks again, very easy to understand video.
In my search to see if my Canon 5D Mark III had WiFi capability, I came across your excellent video for the Mark IV. Oh how I wish I could afford the 5DMIV!!! I'm using cabling, as I have for a couple of personal projects and it looks as though I'll have to stick with cable unless I buy an extra device. But I want you to know that you are a superb teacher - - there are a lot of miserable videos out there. But your step-by-step video instructions are wonderful, even if I cannot utilize them right now. Anyone needing to learn how to connect and use this feature is in great luck when they turn to your excellent video!
Thanks for the post/feedback Anne!:) The Mark III is a great camera and the Mark IV is a nice successor ... I really enjoy the focusing mechanism in Canon cameras:).
Extremely helpful, i just got mine yesterday and went to do tethering like i would normally do with my previews camera and wasn't working, i was about to flip but decided to search about it. and here we are problem solved! Thank you.
Nice job on this video. I've watched a few other videos on this topic but they rushed right through the procedures. Thanks for making this video. You just gained a new subscriber.
RealWorld, one of the best video of actually showing us step by step rather than showing off going real quickly. I have a ATG Canon EOS-1D X Mark IIr that can display/use on cell/tablet/computer (at the same time) to present to director/producer/clients to view. My questions: 1. Will the Canon EOS-5D Mark IV provides wireless connections to more than one? 2. Will Canon 600EX-RT (mounted on hotshoe) lose/disables when using "LINKED SHOOTING" /or "Rel" (2nd Canon 600EX-RT-use as a remote camera trigger)? 3. Can it shoot audio/video under wireless live-view and save to computer?
Hello - thank you for the post/feedback and great questions!:) My two cents ... Re #1 ... yes, you should be able to connect multiple devices to the camera providing you have the secure key. I have not tried this, but my technical background leads me to believe this should work without issue:). Re #2 ... I do not have this flash but have used other flashes/triggers without any issues. Re #3 ... The camera will save video to card but not computer/phone:). I suspect this is a bandwidth/throughput issue/limitation.
RealWorld, first I don't have the Canon EOS-5D Mark IV. #1, at 3:00 shows WiFi function of smartphone or laptop only. No tablet nor able to select both or all for live-view. So, you have tested it out & able to run wireless live-view to smartphone, tablet and a computer at the same time? And you were able to see wireless live-views onto two smartphones? #2. Canon is the only one that has features that ATG LINKED SHOOTING and ATG wireless radio AF/shutter trigger up to fifteen camera wirelessly. So which flash that you used to Linked Shooting and able to get AF/camera trigger? Boy, I like to know because Canon 600EX-RT/600EX II-RT are high. #3. My ATG Canon EOS-1D X Mark IIr is able to transfer audio/1080p wirelessly to a computer. It can do wireless radio flash. It just can not do 4K.
I appreciate the additional questions prior to purchase (i do the same:)). Re #1 - you should be able to leverage the EOS utility on the table and select either the smartphone or laptop option. I have not tested viewing on multiple devices at the same time but suspect this might work. Re #2 - I used a generic Neewer brand flash and trigger system. Unfortunately, these are not able to leverage Linked Shooting. Linked Shooting is interesting but not something I have used (for the benefit of others reading this - Linked Shooting allows the photographer to trigger the shutter when firing the flash). You are correct - if you want to leverage Linked Shooting, you should consider the 600EX which is not cheap in my opinion:). Re #3 - Whenever shooting video, I always removing the SD card and place into my laptop or desktop for quick transfer (much quicker than wireless could offer). Nonetheless, I do not take advantage of the wireless transfer often (images).
Thanks for the post/feedback Shedrick and glad to be of help!:) Feel free to follow me on Instragram if you like - instagram.com/realworldpicts I just started the account and plan to post more picts soon:).
Hi great tutorial appreciated, i wanted to ask you one i set up my camara mark IV to my phone can i also use it in the street when im shooting my camara with my phone toguether with the wifi of my phone only or this is just to shoot at home with home wifi???? please u know what i mean thank you
Thanks for the post/question:). I believe I understand what you mean and yes, you will need a wifi connection with a router ... so, if you are out on the street and unable to connect to an open wifi with both your camera and phone, you will be out of luck.
Your video was a great help! Only one thing. When I went to the Canon support website to download the utility the site, as you indicated, indicated it had no utility for my software, the latest Apple iPad software. How did you find it?
Hello Ken and thank you for the post/question:). The download page for Canon's utility focuses three primary OSs (Windows, Mac, and Linux; download page is here - www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/cameras/dslr/eos-5d-mark-iv/eos-5d-mark-iv#drivers_downloads_tab). In order to take advantage of the iPad, you must leverage the app store. Search for the EOS Utility in the app store (I found a quick link/reference here - itunes.apple.com/us/app/eos-remote/id565839396?mt=8). Hopefully this helps:).
Nice easy tutorial. Most camera-function-videos the maker rushes through the menus, forcing me to pause the video every 2 seconds to see what the hell he was doing. Not with you though, which is great. I could easily follow your steps on my own 5D while watching the video. Thanks!
great video! thanks! did you do a tutorial on best settings for Canon D5-Mark 4? I just bought one and would like to view a video that would show best settings....thank you!!
There are actually no "best settings". There's always the question: What do you want to achieve - and in which artistic way, then we can talk about the possible "best settings" to meet your vision.
It absolutely can do live view on a laptop. Simply select "live view shoot" near the bottom of the remote shooting menu and a live view window will open up on your laptop.
If your computer is connected to the internet via an ethernet cable, can it then still use the wifi to connect to the camera, like it would connect to a wifi printer?
I notice during the exposures viewed at the laptop & phone, but nothing on camera monitor. Is this a default or a setting that was not set correctly? The purpose of this question is because I am experiencing the same issue.
Hey Rick, great video! One problem for me, I'm trying to connect to my laptop. In the Built-in wireless settings window the Nickname and Clear settings options are shaded and I can't get past this. Would you know where I went wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi, nice video. I recently bought this Panasonic fz300 camera. But I found on the lens, 3-4 mm from the edge of the lens, a scratch, about 1 mm, the thickness of a needle tip! Can it affect my photos or movies, condensation ..., are there other things like that? Thanks.
the wireless connection (especailly with live view shooting) drains the battery so fast! I'm still attaching camera with the cable and no live view if I need to shoot without changing batteries in and out!
Is remote shoot smooth and how far standing from camera can we capture.. say a family portrait where there is noone to click.. how smooth is experience and from how far possible ?
Great video! But my images are transferring WAY too slow. You mentioned transferring only a very small jpeg to the laptop - how do I know how big my jpeg is? I don’t see option to adjust size of jpeg. Want to use remote shooting onsite for big corporate job next week. Thanks for your help in advance!
Oh you’re talking about changing the jpeg size in camera...not in Utility?? I’m always in RAW in camera - if I change this to RAW+small jpeg, will both be saved on the card? Just need to make sure RAW is saved for sure. Thank u!
Is there any way to make it so that I don’t have to go through the “smartphone easy connection” every single time I connect my phone? It’s super annoying. It doesn’t like reconnecting after I disconnect from the cameras network 😞
Hi. I was able to use Canon Connect to link the 5D to my iPhone but not to my iPad. I used the same instructions. Is it possible or not to connect wifi from 5Div to iPad? Thanks for your video.
Hello - thanks for the post/question:). Yes, the Canon Connect app should work on any device capable of running the app (including the iPad). Try to uninstall and reinstall the app ... I had a few challenges getting it to work:).
RealWorld thanks. Should I still hit the smart phone icon in the 5D2 to connect it to my iPad, exactly like I connected my iPhone. Or do I hit a different icon on the options touchscreen on the 5D?
RW., It worked. I think what I did wrong was that I tried to connect my iPad to SETUP 1 in the camera, when that setting had already been setup for my iPhone and was not sure what icon to press because there was no iPad option displayed. After your reply, I repeated the connection procedure, touched the iPhone icon and connected it to SETUP 2 and then the Canon displayed "iPad." So Thanks much for your video. Very helpful. I subscribed and will check out your other uploads. Hal
The problem with smartphone is that when your a photo is full screen and you take a picture it dosnt appear, you have to gp back to thumbnails open again full screen
My card reader isn’t working. I have no cables for my camera to connect to my laptop. I have a compact flash and does go directly into my laptop. I need my photos on my laptop. Someone please help, I’ve tried everything and I’m not knowledgeable about electronics
thank you very much for sharing sir i have one question i realy want to know , does the wifi work on the video mode ? here is the situation : im shooting a video and i want my assistant to control the focus with his phone ( since the mark 4 has the touch screen auto focus ) , is this possible with this application ?
Thanks for the post/question:). Yes, the wifi will work with video. You can leverage a smartphone to record video, change resolution, etc. but I am not certain about focus:). I assume you want to pull focus using touch on the phone? I would need to test/confirm.
RealWorld I just did my first 4K video recording over wifi. Focus and recording to my card were flawless. Changed WB to K from daylight. Changed aperture. I did hit the 4GB limit and my short test was saved as 3 files on my 64GB CF card.
Curious to know how you are trying to connect - th-cam.com/video/peVFs0yFg4k/w-d-xo.html ... are you using the Easy Connection or the Network and have you tried both?
I have a question I shoot videos and I just wanna know if there is anyway canon 5d mark 4 can transmit live view from the camera to my cellphone or external monitor. pls help.......
Hello - welcome to the channel and thank you for the post/question:). Yes, you can leverage live view using your smart device and selecting remote control.
Hello Paul and thank you for the question:). I am able to start and stop video recording but not able to transfer to my smartphone or other devices via wifi.
Hi Paul and thanks for the follow-up question, although the answer might require another video:). Nonetheless, this can be done via the remote control feature.
Hi Kenneth:) ... I caught your other post but feel viewers of both might want to know - unfortunately, no - the wifi is primarily used for stills although you could leverage the live view:).
I was talking about on the smartphone or a pad with Canon Connect. They come up as thumbnails and you have to take your hands off the camera to pull up the photo and enlarge it. It should just come up BIG on the screen shot after shot in succession...
What if the phone app doesn't connect? I encountered this and called Canon Tech Support. He told me to uninstall the phone app and then reinstall it. After that it connected perfectly. Thanks to Canon for providing support for the phone app.
Hi James - the app can be a bit tricky. I experienced multiple issues attempting to connect a Nikon D3400 via Bluetooth but very little issues with wifi on the 5D Mark IV. I would have done the same - uninstall and re-install:). Good to hear you got it working!:)
Hmmmm ... I have not had this happen before although I do not transfer videos via wifi:). Have you tried other video formats and how long is the video? Curious to know if you get the same message when trying to transfer a 10 second clip for example.
Odd ... do you see the camera name on the Canon Connect app? If so, I suspect your camera is setup correctly. After hitting 'connect', you should see the device name on the back on the camera (i.e. laptop, tablet, etc.).
~ Many thanks for this insight into this wonderful camera's capabilities .. Mine will arrive by courier on the 17/18th of August .. ;-) .. My 5D Mk3 has given me outstanding results, and my 5D Mk2 is still my back up camera .. :-)
Thanks for the post/feedback and enjoy the camera!:) I have tested/used many cameras and really like the 5D mk4 - just feels good/solid and nails focus.
Please guide me 1) I have no Wi-Fi connection at my home. 2) Am I able to connect my 5d Mark IV through my mobile hotspot. 3) If yes then how ? 4) Guide me step by step.
If you are trying to connect a device (laptop or phone) to your camera, you do not need a home wifi. If you want to connect the camera directly to the internet, you would use your phone's hotspot like a home wifi (you will need the name and password) ... if you want to connect directly to the net, you will want to choose the FTP or web service options (around 3:11) ... this will depend on what you are trying to do:).
WARNING: FOR ALL YOU POCKET WIZARD USERS OUT THERE AND MOST PROS USE THEM. THIS CANON MODEL5D MARK IV DOES NOT WORK WITH POCKET WIZARD. CANON DESIGNED IT TO NOT WORK WITH POCKET WIZARD. IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS I WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT THIS MODEL. ALL MY OTHER CANONS DO WORK WITH POCKET WIZARD. DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL GUYS. I WISH I HAD NOT AND I AM GOING TO TRY AND RETURN MY 5D MARK IV SINCE I HAVE JUST OWNED IT FOR A WEEK NOW. I WISH SOMEONE DOING REVIEWS ON THIS CAMERA WOULD HAVE TOLD US THIS.
RealWorld These days it's common to do edits in programs like Lightroom Mobile, which work with raw files, so there're is a need to have the raw file on the device.
Currently 2024 watching this and I’m blown away of how thick those bevels on the MacBook Air are! Wow. Great video either way!
lol - funny to look back as technology advances!:)
Hi there, impressive delivery, no bs just good old straight talk yet pleasant and still entertaining, real world!

I'm about 6 years late, but will be buying a Canon 5D MIV in the near future. Great video. I sure hope I find it again when I do get the camera!
Here 8 years later in January 2025, thank you so much for this video! It’s been a great help

Great video. Very well presented, thorough and clear. Much easier than reading the manual. Thanks you.
Hello Joan - thank you for the post/feedback and glad to be of help!:)
Beautiful video but what about Canon 5D I how can we share or connect or fone to the camera?
Thanks for the post/feedback:). Unfortunately, I do not have access to a Mark I:).
RealWorld okay good I check all options on Mark I no option to connect to the fone
Thanks so much for this! Took me a while to admit I couldn't figure it out on my own, but I got it.
Very helpful, easy walk thru of the wi-fi set up.
Thanks for the post Michael and glad to be of help!:)

Outstanding tutorial. My 5D Mk IV arrives in two days, and I'll be closer to being ready because of this. Thank you for posting!
Congrats on the Mark IV Steve!:) A great camera and joy to use!:)
Thanks, man. Sure beats busting out the manual and reading through pages of microscopic type.
Great easy to follow tutorial. Thank you!

Your video was a great help! Only one thing. When I went to the Canon support website to download the utility the site, as you indicated, indicated it had no utility for my software, the latest Apple iPad software. How did you find it?
Hello Ken and thank you for the post/question:). The download page for Canon's utility focuses three primary OSs (Windows, Mac, and Linux; download page is here - www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/cameras/dslr/eos-5d-mark-iv/eos-5d-mark-iv#drivers_downloads_tab). great video! thanks! did you do a tutorial on best settings for Canon D5-Mark 4? I just bought one and would like to view a video that would show best settings....thank you!!
thanks for the post/feedback:). I have not made a video on best settings but may consider doing so. ty.
There are actually no "best settings". There's always the question: What do you want to achieve - and in which artistic way, then we can talk about the possible "best settings" to meet your vision.

Hi! Thanks a lot for this video. I am wondering if you can also get to do live view mode on your labtop, just as you did on your phone?
It absolutely can do live view on a laptop. Simply select "live view shoot" near the bottom of the remote shooting menu and a live view window will open up on your laptop.
Hey drop the camera link bro
Canon 5D Mark IV - amzn.to/2fFw2z5
If your computer is connected to the internet via an ethernet cable, can it then still use the wifi to connect to the camera, like it would connect to a wifi printer?
does this work for the video to star up again after the 30min limit?
i believe so but would need to test:).
Great video. Thank you!
I notice during the exposures viewed at the laptop & phone, but nothing on camera monitor. Is this a default or a setting that was not set correctly? The purpose of this question is because I am experiencing the same issue.
Do you require a cable for a live view mode tether?
Not needed but note that you may see a slight delay with wifi.
Great overview of the feature. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Are you aware if you can tether video, on to a tablet or ipad? instead of buying a video transmitter?
I believe you can, however there will be an annoying latency:).
@@RealWorld Thank you!

The remote works well but I am not certain regarding max distance. When taking a group shot with me included, I still prefer the self-timer:).
RealWorld But that won't tell me whether am getting the final composition which I want.. which I could see reflected in mobile screen otherwise
excellent and very smart presentation, thank you!
Hello Julio and thank you for the feedback/comment!:) Glad to be of help!:)

Oh you’re talking about changing the jpeg size in camera...not in Utility?? I’m always in RAW in camera - if I change this to RAW+small jpeg, will both be saved on the card? Just need to make sure RAW is saved for sure. Thank u!
Yes, both will be saved to card - not a problem:).
Just to clarify when setting up the WiFi to an iPad I would follow the iPhone steps?
Yes, the iPad would be very similar to the iPhone:).
RealWorld thank you. I got it to work on my iPad. Saved me money vs buying tether tools. For the few times I need this it will work perfectly.
Is there any way to make it so that I don’t have to go through the “smartphone easy connection” every single time I connect my phone? It’s super annoying. It doesn’t like reconnecting after I disconnect from the cameras network 😞

RW., It worked. I think what I did wrong was that I tried to connect my iPad to SETUP 1 in the camera, when that setting had already been setup for my iPhone and was not sure what icon to press because there was no iPad option displayed. Thank you so much!
Hello Janice - thank you for the feedback and glad to be of help!:)
do you know, what to do, if laptop doesn't see camera?
Curious to know how you are trying to connect - th-cam.com/video/peVFs0yFg4k/w-d-xo.html ... are you using the Easy Connection or the Network and have you tried both?
I have a question I shoot videos and I just wanna know if there is anyway canon 5d mark 4 can transmit live view from the camera to my cellphone or external monitor. pls help.......
Hello - welcome to the channel and thank you for the post/question:). Yes, you can leverage live view using your smart device and selecting remote control.
It still doesn't do video over wifi?
Hello Paul and thank you for the question:). I am able to start and stop video recording but not able to transfer to my smartphone or other devices via wifi.
Great video.
thanks for the feedback and glad to be of help:)
Thanks for your video
Thanks for the post/feedback:).
At this point........ Where is your eye piece cover?
lol - I believe I removed for the video (shadows were hitting the screen)
How do you start and stop the video?
Hi Paul and thanks for the follow-up question, although the answer might require another video:). Nonetheless, this can be done via the remote control feature.
Almost, u didn't mention the Encryption Key, and for the longest time I could not figure out how to log into the camera.
LOL - yes, you will need the key:).
Thanks
Does the wifi work with vide features
Hi Kenneth:) ... I caught your other post but feel viewers of both might want to know - unfortunately, no - the wifi is primarily used for stills although you could leverage the live view:).

Why does the Next image not come up Full Screen
They should come up full screen as demo'd around 10:45 in this video. Are you not seeing the same?
I was talking about on the smartphone or a pad with Canon Connect. They come up as thumbnails and you have to take your hands off the camera to pull up the photo and enlarge it. It should just come up BIG on the screen shot after shot in succession...
Do u have to reconnect every time? Or is there an easier way
Should not have to reconnect each time.
thank you!! very helpful..
When i try to transfer videos to my iphone 8 it fails and says format not compatible. Anyone else have this problem or know the solution?
Hmmmm ... I have not had this happen before although I do not transfer videos via wifi:). Have you tried other video formats and how long is the video? Curious to know if you get the same message when trying to transfer a 10 second clip for example.
@@RealWorld YEs i have tried all the video formats of the camera. even tried 2 second videos. all failed.
@@RealWorld Figured it out. Has to be MP4 to be able to transfer to phone, not MOV
im connect but nothing happened after click connect
Odd ... do you see the camera name on the Canon Connect app? If so, I suspect your camera is setup correctly. After hitting 'connect', you should see the device name on the back on the camera (i.e. laptop, tablet, etc.).
I see the camera name on the eos ultility app I click to connect but after that nothing happen on the camera
Hello - if you do not see anything on the camera, try to uninstall the app and setup again.
How do I find out what the password is once I log on to the wifi?
Are you referring to the password/connection back to the camera from the laptop? If so, you will need the encryption key (noted around 4:00 mark).
Please guide me
1) I have no Wi-Fi connection at my home.
Thanks for the post/tip Steve. That stinks as the pocket wizards are nice.
It's a real shame you cant transfer raw files to a phone or tablet. This to me makes the app worthless.
I believe the concept from Canon is to show a preview of the image via jpeg ... raw is meant for post edits, etc.
RealWorld These days it's common to do edits in programs like Lightroom Mobile, which work with raw files, so there're is a need to have the raw file on the device.
Good point ... I have only played with lightroom mobile which is nice when on the go.
I shoot a lot of events and more and more clients wanting images for social media "real time". This seems well suited for that to me.
