I personally don't recommend that, yes there are many short ones that are just character reveals for when they those characters came out and many longer ones have a story that you have to read into instead of just being told exactly what is going on, if you skip forward you might miss some that you would like, sure it will take a while for you to watch them all, but I think it would be worth it in the end.
It's okay to not like some of the videos, it's "your" reaction to the video and if you don't understand somethings then I am sure there are a number of people willing to explain in the comments

Here is a list I would watch if you want to focus on the lore. They are in publishing order but if you want I can organize them by region so they might have more connection. And I can only say that the Legends of Runeterra videos should be the last ones after these. They very much give a dot to our current story. I used the original video's timestamps.
23:05 - Shurima: Descent Into The Tomb
      ----- Very Lore focused
26:14 - Shurima: Rise of the Ascended

      33:33 - Rek'Sai: The Terror Beneath

I agree. Even if you watch nothing else from league of legends, I highly reccommend watching 'Kin of the Stained Blade'.
If you want, 'The path, an Ionian Myth' is a short precursor to it. Theres no real dialogue but it does convey a fair bit about one of the characters in 'Kin of the Stained Blade'. Also the animation is wonderful.

@@HannaHsOverInvested do not expect WoW level of story. League of Legends clips are unrelated to each other most of the time and very light headed. So dont expect too much from them. Also there are 150+ playable characters and they all are from different regions of Runeterra (the world in which events take place) and all regions are very different. In comparison to WoW the world of Runeterra is very bitty (I dont really know that word, sorry for my English). There are no defined general story, but instead a lot of little stories (unlike wow).
Also League of Legends is very famous for its music.

The League of Legends cinematics usually revolve character promotion for an upcoming playable unit, some cosmetic skins, or major changes (like the 'New Dawn' one you watched in this video being an introduction to the visual overhaul they gave the main map a couple of years back). If you want 'the crispy bits' related to the lore of the game, I suggest watching the Legends of Runeterra cinematics instead. It's the same universe, but LoRs trailers are more heavily focused on telling a story, rather than being a showcasing reel of shiny new products.
There are 4, that I recall, for LoR; True Genius, The Lesson, After Victory, and The Vaulted Road. Rather than being fantastical slugfests, they delve into the minds of one or two characters, or a story beat, and showcase their place in the world with a little neat story.
Additionally, League of Legends does have a recently added cinematic called 'Kin of the Stained Blade' which is probably their best cinematic. It revolves around a dishonored samurai being chased by the ghosts of his past. It's visually stunning and the story in it is very reminiscent of something you'd see in Overwatch cinematics.
Addendum: Call of Power is also rather neat. A treasure hunt that showcases some of the various areas and champions while telling the story of the magus, Ryze.

The first was a introduction of a new champion "Jinx" back in the day and they made the music and animation for it, there is plenty of them for champions and world championships, now they are making a K-pop band with the ingame characters called "KDA"one of their better songs is "popstars", if you want story and character development watch annies origin story :p, fun videos keep it up :)!

  • @nahlannentrela5376

Jinx's video was more of a Character introduction, same with the tiny animal introducing Braum the guy with the shield (which was actually a door that was indestructible, so he just carries it with him and uses as such XD)
Most of the earliest videos were trying to depict the nonsense that happens in the actual game. I've always been a fan of the actual characters and their stories, which thankfully, recently, have been getting a LOT more development and attention for lore and worldbuilding
They're even getting ready to release a new series called Arcane I'm very excited about!

The game used to be very generic in its stories and characters, but more recent cinematics (2017-2020 ish) do focus more on actually telling a story instead of selling a character. In terms of league content, most of their content doesn't offer much story. There's a specific cinematic called Ryze: Call of Power that delves more into lore and character building than most of them and I think that cinematic specifically would be much more up your alley. There's also The Path: an Ionian Myth and Kin of the Stained Blade, two related cinematics that explore the bloody past between two wayward samurai brothers in the league universe.

Leagues lore is spread out through many different sources and Necrit is the premier League lore specialist.
His videos are very well organized and generally comprehensive
A lot of these old videos were made back when League literally didn't have lore. They were just rule of cool disjointed character. About 3 ish years ago they did a massive world building overhaul and are even now still rewriting and reworking characters.

Hard to get the story from cinematics cause most of them just showcase some of the characters you can play in the game. But they are still cool nonetheless. The most recent cinematic combat are worth too (Awaken and Warriors) because of there quality.

The more "light" side like the warrior that the redhead fought in a previous video is also responsible for locking up magic users just because they have magic for example.(even though his sister is a mage and he protects her)

I think you'd really appreciate 'Annie: Origins'. Very good not-on-the-nose visual storytelling. Then there are also the 'Tales of Runeterra' shorts. And 'Curse of the Sad Mummy' tells the background story of a character in its lyrics.
That's pretty much it in terms of pure story as far as i'm aware.

At the point of content you are looking at, they still have not figured out where they want to go story wise. It was 2015 or 2016 when they finally found their direction. But keep in mind the game has 151 character right now with another coming in a few weeks to be 152. So while some do come up more, they try to spread the love a bit.

As others have mentioned, the cinematics & cinematics with music are their lore/story based videos. Usually us League fans explain the story within the video/explain who the characters are. Looks like no one has explained the characters just yet so I will :D
Ahri = 9 tailed fox character
Leona = the woman with the giant shield at the beginning & end
Zyra = Poison Ivy looking woman
Jax = The first character who got killed by the anchor/has that staff weapon
Draven = The guy with the spinning blades for weapons
Darius = The guy with the giant axe
Nautlius = The character with the giant anchor
Graves = The man with the shotgun
Katarina = The one you initially thought was a bad woman ( she's an assassin in game )
Rengar = The cat/lion looking character ( another assassin in game )
I believe that's all of the characters for THIS specific cinematic.

  • @paecmaker
    @paecmaker 3 ปีที่แล้ว

The problem for a newcomer with many of these cinematic videos is that it already takes it for granted you know all these characters. You kinda know their powers and you will recognize them use these powers that you can use yourself in the game. And even for new champions (like the jinx music video) most of their story is actually written in text and not in these videos.
Another problem is that some trailers are just showing of a new skin for a particular champion(or several), which has nothing to do with the actual lore of the game itself, this can be extremely confusing at times, for example in a upcoming video it will just be a music video with some champions being like a metal band, which has literally nothing to do with the rest of the game.

the problem for league of legends is that it is a 5v5 game where each player can play a hero from the roester, but that means there is no main storyline of the game. so most of the trailers have some combat showing off the characters and their main abilities but not much more story than that. Only the most recent trailers are more story based and reach into the backstory of some champions.

tl;dr just read my last sentence :)
Early league videos themselves don't have story per se , they touch and tease on small story bits which are all found in short stories from Riot. They have a website containing all the stories into one place and even put them on a map to have a visual of where they happen.
    (Universe.LeagueOfLegends.com)
Over the past few years Riot has been reworking the story of League of Legends and only recently have created animations for the story. There was supposed to be an animated series coming out this year but with everything going on that didn't happen.
As you've prolly seen from other comments, the "Tales of Runeterra" series is most likely up your alley. It's a series of videos promoting the story of League. BTW League of Legends the game proper has little to no involvement in the story. League of Legends is like "what happens if we put character A against character B" sorta thing.
The confusing part can be the other universes Riot has created. You have the main League of Legends universe and then you have spin offs. This is the result of Riot creating in-game skins for characters, they wanted to make each skin have its own lore and some became more popular than others.
Such universes that diverge from the main is:
PROJECT: cyberpunk theme, memories of the past
Odyssey: riots take on guardians of the galaxy
Starguardian: magical girl anime, hired Hiroyuki Sawano to make music for them

I think when they did the early videos they were to promote the game and most people that played the games knew the names. I think you would really get a kick out of Kin of the Stained Blade. A lot of games did not focus on story telling in their showcase cinematics/ads several years ago. Even World of Warcraft had a few ads back in the day (Check out "10 Funniest World of Warcraft Commercials") that were comical showcases of different classes/races/factions. For WoW at least, you have been watching expansion cinematics (come out about every two years when the content of the game gets expanded to get everyone hyped for the new content) and the more recently developed in-game cinematics (mostly from the Legion, Battle for Azeroth, and now Shadowlands expansions but there are a few from the older expansions like the fall of the Lich King that you may want to watch).
A lot of games now are 10+ years old with the more story focused ads/cinematics being from the last 5 or so years. So if you feel like giving up on a game's cinematics, I suggest doing a tiny bit of research to pick out a few more recent cinematics before throwing in the towel.
Also, I personally would love to see you do a series on the videos of very story driven games like Horizon Zero Dawn ("Horizon Zero Dawn All Cutscenes (Game Movie)" ~6 hours) and God of War 4 ("GOD OF WAR 4 - Full Movie All Cutscenes" ~6 hours) where most of the gameplay is cut so you can focus on the story being told. These are very long but I think you would really enjoy them.

have you thought about doing video game opening cinematics rather than trailers? They are short movies at the beginning of the game and are completely story driven so seem much more what you are looking for. as a bonus they usually use in-game music which shouldnt get you muted, unlike trailers which usually use licenced tracks.

At this point in time (~2013) Riot hadn't really consolidated the many different regions of their game into a coherent world and narrative. The real good story stuff doesn't start until late 2014/early 2015, which means you have ~10 mins of video before you get to the stuff you'll really enjoy.

Awesome video! Your next reaction should be Team Fortress 2. It’s the game that popularised the animated shorts for videos game’s back in 2009 and they still hold up. It’s a game where lore is the not the primary focus but it’s there if you wish to learn it. The videos you should watch are the Meet the Team videos (which is a playlist which introduces to each character, don’t worry it’s only 9), Expiration Date, End of the Line and Jungle Inferno. If you do want more of a story read the comics on their website will give a lot of information but if you don’t feel like reading you can always listen to dubs of the comics that fans of made.
Anyways keep up the great videos!
