Great video! Just one correction for viewers - FGR aren't in Stroud, they're in Nailsworth, which is the village of 6,000 in question. Stroud is a small town just down the road and likely where Ellis got off the train to get to the ground.
That, looks like a fantastic day out. All around. Wow that looks like fun. I'd be there with my son every game! Thanks for letting us all in on this great club!
I've been vegan for nearly ten years now and in the beginning, it was hard and you had to eat a lot of shite - but as this vid shows, you can now get vegan versions of nearly all fodder, making it so much more easier. It is 'something other clubs can do.' and I am constantly frustrated by the fact my club (Blackburn Rovers) has no vegan options on Match Day even though they like to big up their 'green' credentials. Unfortunatley, much as I love what this club is and what they are doing, their owner seems a bit of a dick.
Filmed a documentary for a uni project with FGR talking about their interesting ways in 2021/22 - The staff and players are only on vegan diets when they are provided for by the club. At home they're allowed to eat whatever they want.
This video kind of reminded me of swiss hockey team Ambri-Piotta. Ambri has a population of 500 and the team has a 6,7k seater stadium which cost 51Million swiss francs. They have been playing in the highest swiss hockey league since 1985.

I have a massive soft spot for FGR. I used to live about 30miles away (in about 2002) and alot of people in my then village had shares in the club. I love that they managed to get to L1 and their shirts are brilliant in design most seasons. You're right, alot of things they do while it seems weird, should be done at other clubs, free water refills for instance, just seems... frankly nice and for very little cost.
Forest Green are a really interesting case study on sustainability in sport - to answer your question for Ecopark (the new ground) it's likely FGR are going to be offsetting the emissions from the stadium over decades. The story they will tell will entirely depend on the scope of the carbon footprinting methodology, but simply - They will take into account the carbon released during the entire construction process & for all the materials which will be used to build the stadium. This will include everything required to grow the trees & harvest/process the wood. They will then also calculate how much carbon will be captured during the lifetime of the stadium, this would include the carbon intake from the trees & plants or any carbon offsets FGR purchase as part of the construction. In order to be carbon neutral, the 'released' carbon will be equal to the 'captured' carbon. So the wood they use might be 'carbon neutral wood' which means the emitted carbon during the growing, harvesting & processing will be equal to the carbon captured during the tree's lifetime. (For the case of the wood, there's more complexity with regards to how the carbon is captured, stored and eventually released at the end of it's lifetime - But that's beyond the ELI5) They key point would be around the assumption FGR make around the lifetime of the stadium, and answering “how long will this building last” is a really tough question. But the key thing (in my opinion as someone that works in the sector) isn’t necessarily the answer, but the transparency around how FGR arrived at that number. This then links into consistency around these choices and that’s something that continues to be debated by those who get paid a hell of a lot more than me. Your comment on the ‘AwayDays’ carbon footprint is an interesting one and I’m sure your carbon footprint report would be quite an anomaly compared to traditional companies. I have always thought (growing up on YT) that the carbon footprints of TH-cam channels would make for a really interesting case study and provide some quirky reduction opportunities to investigate.
Great video Ellis, and very interesting. Think you will find that the village is called Nailsworth. Stroud has more than 6000 inhabitants. A stadium built entirely (or mostly) from wood just screams fire hazard to me. I know they'll do stuff to prevent it, but I also can't get the Bradford City fire out of my mind.
I mean….dont tar your roof, just clean up under the stand every once in a while, and don’t let people smoke in the stand…you’ll pretty much prevent another Bradford. It was pretty much a garbage fire exacerbated by all the tar on the roof. Timber itself is not highly flammable without a sustained hot flame. Billions of people live in timber framed homes without it being an elevated fire hazard.
The wood is treated to be fire resistant. Also, Valley Parade was an outlier. There was loads of rubbish under the stand and you were allowed to smoke. So, one discarded cigarette caused the whole place to go up.

As a York City fan I remember playing them in mid 00s in our first spell in National League. They always seemed to get a reprieve from relegation due to various reasons. They got dubbed Forest Grass Rovers by fans of other clubs so maybe we foresaw this conversion to veganism. Still they certainly look a decent side this season and have a great chance of promotion
I visited Forest Green for a friendly for Bielsa's first leeds game, and the food was amazing. Genuinely don't understand the hate they get. Oh no, for one away game a season you might have to eat an award winning vegan pie instead of a meat pie at the football.
I think its a two way street, having vegan options is good cause it helps a lot of people with certain dietary restrictions that are either religious or health based. At the same time I don't think there should be an all-vegan or non-vegan concessions, people don't like stuff if they feel its forced on them.
@@goddhoward388 Yeah but the magic of vegan food is non-vegans can eat it, which doesn't work the other way round. They sell stuff like curry and chips, which non-vegans would also eat. The lack of a meat option doesn't mean a meat eater can't eat. If they can't go one meal without meat then I think that's genuinely pathetic.
@@matt-ko4cc For dietary restrictions and religious reasons either eating or not eating meat isn't a choice, for meat eaters and vegans its entirely a choice so if a vegan can reject eating meat people can reject eating vegan based substitutes so I don't really agree with that argument.

Visiting Leeds again are we?
Forest Green isn't in Stroud, it's in Nailsworth.
Nailsworth has 2 senior teams, Forest Green Rovers and Shortwood United. It did have 3, but Taverners FC dropped out of Glioucestershire Senior Football a few seasons back.
Taverners still play but in Stroud division 1 and now play in Stonehouse I think and there is also Nailsworth Town fc who play in Stroud division 5 😊
@oli_ak Yes, I visited Taverners when they were playing in the County League. Pitch they used was more or less in the same location as the current Forest Green ground.
Nailsworth is in the Stroud Valleys though. There is no countryside between Nailsworth and Stroud in actuality.
@@samuelbarrett9403 I walked from Stroud station to Nailsworth when I visited Forest Green's old ground and seem to remember there being some countryside in between. Mind you, that was in the mid-1980s!
@@robnorth480 Haha, things have changed just a tad since then. No fields in between now.
Chelsea fan here. And of course I get to see Ipswich Indra after what happened…at least he makes good music. Made my top 5 for the year on Spotify. Love the away days!
You getting you face painted nope. 😂😂 Next frame
Top content as always. Thanks bro
Appreciate it!
@@awaydaysfootball Best football channel on the platform by far.
I wish my country of Bulgaria was worth visiting but sadly the state of the country is so bad, there's nothing we can really expect for our football.
Best football youtube channel ever!
If no away fans have ever taken a load of disposable barbecues or thrown sausages i am disappointed and football is dead.
Who the hell can downvote anything by this man.
So good!
I'm sure Dale Vince is so impressed you went to 'Brexitspoons'
Ellis please come to Leyton Orient
He did once, and couldn't work out how to get into the West Stand. 😁
@ryuhayabaker for goodness sake! It's not very difficult
Thank you for coming to Forest Green, we truly are massive. However, please, please never say that we're based in Stroud! We're Nailsworth!
Don't worry, as the feeling from Stroud is mutual. Nowhere wants to be associated with your silly little pretentious club.
The club are actually based in Nailsworth, and are named forest green due to the club representing the area of nailsworth called forest green
Should go Boundary park coldest ground in england
Stadium announcer kept putting Aldershot before the Home side when saying the scoreline, annoyed me more than it should
Mate PLEASE come check out a Cavalry FC match next season! We play in the Canadian Premier League, it's a brand new league (6 years old) and I think you'll actually really enjoy it!
Essentially if the new stadium uses very little concrete and steel, it will likely be offset from the day it opens as all the timber used will have grown in forestries throughout the construction time many times over
Thank you for this video! Was super interesting, if you do some efforts for the environment you are doing good already!
"Have another slice then " 😅🤣🤣 best line yet 😂
Used to work in the spoons at the start of the video. Never again
The Lordy 😂
The Lord John! Glad to see it's still going, I used to drink in there when I was 16 😂
Good vid as always Ellis
You should come to Australia we actually have a Ben Gibson playing for Newcastle jets
Great video, very amusing. I've always fancied going there but it sounds a bit of a pain in the arse to get to. How far is Stroud train station away? Oh, just going to subscribe.
Ellis come to Patrick Thistle Vs Airdrie it's a Darby in Scotland full of hatred. Our ultras have just had three first year as ultras. Come in with the ultras. It would be good to get our club some recognition.
Your plan worked, I did click when saw strangest, so was good to hear you say was fun instead & that you had used different word to get people clicking it, though I will just watch your videos anyway & subscribed a while ago now & follow your twitter too, find your content interesting
Hahaha never thought I’d see you in the Lordy ffs 😂 hope you enjoyed Stroud!
"Isn't every water urine?" Put that on my tombstone.
Couldn't imagine supporting a worse team
Alfie with those transitions, I tip my hat to you sir.
@@goddhoward388 they could eat somewhere else nearby, right? not exactly forced
@@jamesveccie That's a fair point I'm mainly considering away fans who take the coach, they'd perhaps be more limited but your point still stands
@@matt-ko4cc For dietary restrictions and religious reasons either eating or not eating meat isn't a choice, for meat eaters and vegans its entirely a choice so if a vegan can reject eating meat people can reject eating vegan based substitutes so I don't really agree with that argument.
I think the players and staff are only vegan when they're at work.
Crispin is exactly what I thought their fans would be like
He seems nice
The Hill you walk up is the most challenging part 😂
Ellis. would love to see you bring a group of ultras to support random teams. Full on flares, drums, tifos and songs.
Ellis never fails to make my day
I was at our first home game in League 1 against Ipswich a couple of years ago. I've been bleating on about how we've done the opposite of Ipswich in the past two seasons. Maybe 2025 is the year they go down, and we go up a league 🤷 😅.
Well done on embracing our fantastic club (I do agree we should ditch those bloody stars too!)
10:03 interesting comparison to the media’s obsession with Wrexham and their back to back promotions from the National League to League 1
Yeah it is seriously impressive how they got to L1
FaggyGayRovers and FranchiseDons are the only teams more deplorable than WreckSham
I went Vegan during covid just to see what it was like and after extensive testing I can say every Vegan cheese I tried was rank and it was the only thing I couldn't find a decent replacement for - So don't worry about that one Ellis!
You need to do a trip to aldershot one of the most depressing towns but they love their club!
