Gojira are fantastic, definitely one of my favourite bands of the 21st century! I would love to see more from them on the channel. They started off in a much more Death Metal style, especially influenced by Morbid Angel (another band you need to hear at some point) and they’ve slowly gotten more accessible over time. Not to say they’ve “sold out” or anything, they’re just less heavy overall. As far as the next track to check out I would recommend “Ocean Planet”, “The Art of Dying” or “The Gift of Guilt”. Thanks Nick! Take care and rock on 🤘🤘
Gojira is something else, i’s love to see more of them on ghis channel because they are unique. They actually started out as Godzilla in 1996, but changed their name to Gojira later on in 2001. Gojira to me is a liveband, their live performances are so good it’s incredible. They’ve gotten a little mellower later on, early Gojira was as death metal as it gets. I’d love to see a reaction to Remembrance at The Link Alive concert, the passion, the energy, the precision… it’s great. And there’s plenty more tracks that are just as good with this band. Cool reaction, keep them coming from Gojira. Subbed!
Now this is a banger. It's worthy of a Metal with Nick reaction. Thanks Eric. I hope some metal heads, like Eric, out there give Nick some either Testament, Death, Death Angel or Kreator to react to.
Nick! Thanks so much for this reaction! I knew you would really enjoy this band! I thought this song even though its some of their newer work was a great introduction to their sound! I feel blessed to a part of this channel. I consider you a friend! And as i have said before, we have the same taste in music. Love sharing music with you both! Take care! Cant wait for more videos! Love you brother! Having a blast with these Metal requests and reactions!!
Hi nick, how about checking out mastodon, iron tusk, blood & thunder or hearts alive would be a great start, just enjoyed your gojira review, epic band, really looking forward to seeing them live for the first time next february in Nottingham,UK.
Hi Nick! I don't think I've commented on a video of yours before, but I've been a subscriber for a little while. I just want to encourage you to keep going through Gojira's repertoire, because I think their music is so unique and so damn heavy at the same time. I'm not usually into extremely heavy genres of metal, but with them it feels just right. I think of them as a prog-metal band, because of all the things you pointed out regarding rhythm changes (or odd time signatures), or their creative uses of guitar sounds -- I don't know if that's correct but I know this technique at 9:48 as the "Gojira slide", I don't know if "cascades" means the same thing but it sounds right too ^^ If you would like to hear something softer that might appeal to your wife more, I'd recommend the song "Born in winter" from the album "L'enfant sauvage" (th-cam.com/video/suG-c_i2fBQ/w-d-xo.html) Also it's short haha. They also have songs with titles that don't start with the word "born...". "Art of dying" is an interesting one ;) Edit: I should add, "Art of dying" is _not_ soft, nor short, so maybe listen to that one by yourself if you do ^^
Hey thank you so much for your lovely comment. You should comment more since you have great things to say. I will definitely go down the Gojira rabbit hole. I love what they did there. Love the Gojira Slide. Very interesting. A cascade is when you play a chord but you are sweeping over the strings while muting them. Super.cool !!! Thanks again for all the good info !!
@@NicknLex I'll try to comment more :) Yeah it's the same technique then, I think on open strings though (you could still say it's a chord, just the open chord of whatever tuning they're in)
Thank you Eric once again I'm being educated so well with great suggestions to music I wouldn't normally listen to!! I'm really enjoying the metal with Nick part to the channel. Eric and Nick thank you both very much ✌
Glad you enjoyed it! I myself do not tend to veer into Metal music all that often! But these guys are amazing! And they give me plenty of progressive moments that keeps me intrigued! I also love drummer! One of my favorites! Thanks for commenting! Appreciate it!
Check out also the band Mastodon. Their album Crack the Skye from 2009 is a progressive metal masterpiece. Also their last album Hushed and Grim is absolutely phenomenal. Songs like The Last Baron, The Czar, Gobblers of Dregs or Eyes of Serpents, these are my suggestions. Amazing and deep music.
Nick, you are cranking these out monster-level. Yes, groove and rhythm. Yes, Pantera and Rob Zombie. And they were originally called Godzilla, I believe. 👋 Hey Lex: “Gojira!” Lol ✨🤪
@@mvunit3 Hardly. I barely dabble because I’m not as passionate about it. But everyone’s heard Rob Zombie. I don’t know all his work intimately, not even his films. I have friends who are fans of his films, but I’ve only seen clips. I did see “Grindhouse” but that was because of Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez (Rob Zombie contributed to the fake trailers at the beginning). And I’m well aware of the breadth of your musical knowledge. A Venn diagram would probably show quite a bit of overlap in our tastes, but while your scary stuff might not fall into my discomfort zone, it certainly isn’t my preference. I respect any subscriber’s opinions especially someone like yourself who’s been so generous, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. And I have a motto like Romeo Void sang, “never say never.” I’m open to learn, but so far I lean towards a groove with a melody and a varied beat. Cheers, my Friend. ✨😉
You do not have to go with the times. Let me fetch Schopenhauer's essay on genius. brb. "He who wishes to experience gratitude from his contemporaries, must adjust his pace to theirs. But great things are never produced in this way. And he who wants to do great things must direct his gaze to posterity, and in firm confidence elaborate his work for coming generations." The music here is way better than Deep Sabbath & Co. I might, however, ask to have the vocals as a side dish.
Hi Nick ! I have had a listen and I am interested with someone saying in the comments .. They've gotton a little mellower later on, so maybe I will .... Oh look there's a Lu & Lex video with some reggae ! 🤪 Byee ! Jim X
My phone guy from last fall reco'd Gojira. Monster riffage, playing, no doubt. Def. check out original Japanese version of 'Godzilla/Gojira' from '54, iirc, not the Hollywoodized version with Raymond 'Perry Mason/Ironside' Burr.
Gojira (they were originally called "Godzilla" ;) from Ondres, Landes, France . . . They always have MONSTER Riffs. They fall into various categories like; Tech-Death Metal, Extreme Prog Metal, Groove Metal, as they are all that and more. Vocalist/Guitarist (1 of 2) "Joe Duplantier's" vocals remind me of early albums from Thrash/Death Metal band "Darkane" from Sweden (these guys are very technical, and the drummer Peter Wildoer also played with James LaBrie and was a potential replacement for Portnoy in Dream Theater). I've enjoyed their earlier albums very much (MUCH heavier), but haven't done a "deep-dive" or purchased a Gojira album as of yet. They have a unique sound, they are very different than _other_ French Death Metal or Thrash that I've heard through the years. But you know me too Nick, I am very much like your friend Eric; "Oh, you want METAL aye? Okay HERE WE GO!!!" 😄 I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer to throw my few bands in, but please do look into all the bands I've mentioned in comments (some even have tracks that Lexi would like, but reachout to me for suggested "tracks" :). And now lets listen to Birds of Fire by Mahavishnu Orchestra and some ELO :D . . . . - Thank you Eric & Nick! TURN IT UP!!! \m/
As Nick says, I listen to a lot of different music. I know Gojira, because my son got them in his collection and I listened to them before. But my problem with most of modern metal is, that I often like the music very much, but not the vocals. They are ok, but ok is not good enough for me personally to listen to it more often.
Fine reaction. Gojira deserves more TLC in the metal scene and in general. They are so good. Great stuff.

Do "Silvera" by Gojira.
Vocals on this are definitely more tolerable.
Doesn’t sound as much as a growl.
