    I have naturally dark circles under my eyes so it actually felt really good to see them on the doll, especially because dolls are usually seen as flawless. Felt really good to see something that bothers me sometimes be appreciated, honestly!

    I'm late to the party, but I ADORE the dimension and realism that you add with the blue tones by the nose/under the eyes. I'm definitely attempting this and the skin texture for my next face up.

      @@xhanthi I have a serious question is The bjd’s ordinary makeup lasting? My younger sis wanted so badly one of these dolls and I am afraid that if she’ll touch it too much it could easily erase. So these makeups from aliexpress are actually going to last? 😢

    Your finished piece is amazing. I have a few projects I'm working on now that will really benefit from this tutorial. One of which is a life size Gizmo and Stripe from Gremlins. If I can get them half as realistic as you do in this video I'll be stoked. Great job. I just finished my E.T. statue and he came out pretty good. I painted the back of cabachons and used polymer clay for the eyes. Then I coated them with layers of tinted epoxy resin. They came out really good but it was a ton of work. Gonna try it your way next time.

    Gorgeous work! I have a couple of questions; 1) When I try and use gouache, even after sealing it still runs when wet. How can I avoid this? 2) And I didn't know you could get such bright lips with pastels! How many layers did it take? 3) Do you scrape the pastels to dust, brush it right off the pastel, or rub some on paper and dip your brush in that? Thanks!

    • @xhanthi
      @xhanthi  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried to answer this is my newer video, and someone commented on that you can actually get two different types of gouache, there's a watercolour one and an acrylic based one that doesn't run, so maybe that might work! I don't know much about the acrylic based gouache though.

  • @TheToyHoarder

    Your work is gorgeous! Are the pastels you use chalk pastels or oil pastels? Did you need to wet them before brushing them onto the doll, or does it work just rubbing the dry brush over the sticks? (I haven't seen pastel used this way before). Also, you mentioned putting on sealant and then gloss. Did you need to add sealant again after the gloss as well? Additionally, is the sealant applied over everything on the face the first time (spray or brush I would guess) or just the areas that then needed gloss? I don't have any experience with sealant in crafting beyond its use on shoes, but I assume here its purpose would be to keep the lines and color patches you've made from smudging, to protect the face in general from dust/dirt/elements, and to allow for cleaning it later?

    • @xhanthi
      @xhanthi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You basically got it! So the chalk pastels I use dry, I scribble on a bit if paper then dab my brush into it. I seal to protect the piece from staining (if it’s doll that might need to be repainted in the future, it’s a little different if it’s a wall hanging artwork), but I also seal each layer of pastel and paint to build up colour and depth. Then at the end I do a heavier sealant layer to lock everything in, then add the glossy parts.

    • @xhanthi
      @xhanthi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I didn't! I use Vallejo matt sealer as a base though to give the head more tooth to work on and protect the surface from colour stains from the paint and pastels.
