Well done. My Lionel runs just fine using this system. Of course, it's a 2013, 616 Flying Yankee with Proto-Sounds 3.0. I could access most of the options using my old Lionel CW-80 transformer. But it really was a pain. It took me a while to stop pointing the DCS remote at the train and program myself to point it at the MTH Remote Commander. Thanks for posting this.

I recently picked up an MTH Blue Comet with Protosound 2.0 (8.4 volt) and have been using it with a Z-1000 conventional transformer. I have tried unsuccessfully to get the station sounds or other sound effects to work with the Z-1000 so I thought Id try this DCS remote.
I picked one up today for $75.00 at a local train store but when I connected it up the same way you did I could see that the tracks was getting 18 volts but the locomotive did not respond to the start up button. I did note in the instructions that the DCS remote only works with PS 2.0 that uses the 3 volt battery, not the 8.4 volt which is what mine had. I recently replaced it with the 8.4 volt BCR (Capacitor). Do you have ant thoughts or suggestions on this?
Should I return it or just keep it until I get a compatible MTH 2.0 or 3.0 protosound locomotive? Thanks.

That's weird, that it doesn't work with MTH steam.

I was told that there’s a switch on the engine that should fix the problem

Interesting, because we have like one PS2 locomotive. Everything else is PS1 or TMCC. Maybe this is a way to try this out.
