  • Ujjayi pranayama is energizing and relaxing because of the long and smooth inhalations and exhalations involved in its practice. The nerve stimulus of ujjayi pranayama practice offers healing benefits surrounding respiratory conditions like asthma, allergies, sinus problems, recurrent throat infections, thyroid problems and high blood pressure.

Ma'am, I must say this is most simple and useful explanation of Ujjayi Breathing. Thank you. Just one question, do we need to keep our glottis tight while exhaling also?

Hi, this is really useful. In vinyasa practice in the UK we are told to use ujjayi pranayama throughout the asana practice. Is this ok to be used in this way or should it be separate from asana?

Actually it is very good to use Ujjayi Breath while in asana, specially in downdog.

    During ujjayi breadth out..
it is hearting my throat and i am coughing, is there any solution or way out to reduce this..

It happens if you put extra force to construct the throat. Try gently placing your tongue behind the upper teeth and relax like that. Don't contract your throat muscles too much.
