    This is awesome and i think alot of beginners wont probably get these concepts. But somebody whos had a background in lifting, we know there always plateaus but finding ways to put more stimulus or load on the muscle will definitely help develop the muscles more and build strength.

    After a (training) lifetime of performing weighted squats nothing, NOTHING proved as intense as sissy squats. I had to regress to using a sissy squat machine.

    When a nerve fires and there's an action potential into a given fiber of muscle tissue, yes those muscle cells/fibers active fully, but all of the nerve inervations may not all be activating simultaneously when a given muscle is contracting. Otherwise any muscle contraction at all would be at maxinum speed/power that the sum of the cells in a muscle could generate.

    I felt this way a few years ago, before I ever saw this video and went more isolation and less compound movements and results are much better!!! I only feel squats and deadlifts should be done for people where its transferable, military, EMTs and firefighters pick up heavy objects from the ground and lift them or carry them on their shoulders.

    The worst thing is when people dismiss advice because the movements look weird in the gym like sissy squats and cable squats. People would rather blow out both their knees then do something unconventional, let's say

    A true sissy squats is done on the toes. Sure it requires balance,but that is supplied by the tibialis, core,and glutes,as well as hip flexors
    Sissy squat is a lot more than quads

      Christian Thibaudeau talks about those with longer femurs (not specifically overall leg length) not getting as much quad activation from regular squats. Front squats preferably with heels elevated would be better. Essentially, the more vertical your torso is the more quad activation you will get.

      Leg extensions don't target rectus femoris nearly as well as a true sissy squat. Since leg extensions are done seated with a flexed hip, the rectus femoris is never fully lengthened as compared to the sissy squat which is done with an extended hip. This allows a greater stretch since it's the only quad muscle that crosses both the knee and hip

    Using physics an math to control a biological adaptation...is it really that straight forward?...All I know is that I did front squats yesterday an my quads are killing me

    • @aaronbradshaw7256
      @aaronbradshaw7256 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You’re right, it’s not. The physics help identify what exercise loads the muscle most effectively all other things being equal. Then there’s the physiological piece - you still have to train in the best way for you. I’ve been using the brig20 for a few months now and have gotten a lot out of it. I still need to program my own sets/reps/intensity which While he gives recs, Doug never claims that’s his expertise. He’s knowledgeable about it, yes, but the physics is where he shines.

    Over simplification with the pendulum comparison

  • @TypicallyUniqueOfficial
    @TypicallyUniqueOfficial 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't agree with everything Doug says, I think if you CAN do squats without pain they are a better exercise.
    But I have sciatica and it flares up every once in a while making it excruciating to squat (not caused by squatting, it's a previous injury & genetic).
    The sissy squat is a great and safe exercise to train to build good legs. I don't think you can maximize your legs without leg pressing or squatting (machine or barbell).

    • @davepazz580
      @davepazz580 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I used to believe the same as you (especially when I was younger) that there is no way to "maximize" leg development without some kind of leg pressing or squatting...
      But after many years of training, I'm no longer so sure... especially since discovering pendulum sissy squats (which differ from "normal" sissy squats) - this particular type of sissy squat directly stresses the quads to a *very* high degree.
      Pendulum sissy squats can be progressively overloaded like any other squat-type movement, so I see no reason why it also wouldn't maximize one's quad development to the fullest over time.
