Thank You for your service! Thanks for sharing! I recently went into to the VA and got checked out---after blowing everything off for more than 15 years. DR informed me, I was off the charts in a few areas. Long short, 3 months later, I am WAYYY improved and I feel Great doing a LOW carb/keto--more Carnivore lately with NO BOX FOOD anymore. I feel soo much better, skin clearing up and I have lost 30lbs.....no longer obese @ 199lbs...5"8....but i have more to go. Hba1c from 6.1 to 5.9 I am not sure If your still Liking carnivore or not, But I am finding it beneficial and eating fat has helped me...I think. No sugar. my skin is getting soft again. Good Luck to you!
Thanks for your service! I'm so happy to hear you're doing so much better now on low carb/keto/carnivore! I still eat this way with a few things added i. I ate this way prior to carnivore though, with being really low carb. But, doing this really helped me figure out any other food sensitivities I had. Hopefully you can get checked again in 6 months and see even more improvements in your Hba1c!
I was doing a ketovore diet to try to get out of prediabetes range (A1C was 6.0). My LDL was higher than yours. My tri/HDL ratio was excellent. I had a CAC done and got a score of zero, so no plaque build up. Anyway, the CAC score gave me piece of mind that my arteries are clear.
As i understand it, for most blood work a great time to test is after a WATER ONLY FAST - Between 9 to 12 hours. That is what I do with my Functional MD when we are looking at the testing you showed. 🙂👍 -70SomethingGuy
I was sent by my PA for bloodwork. I asked pointedly if I should fast first and she said no. My eFGR came back a 41 or KD 3b! I’ve been doing carnivore for 2 1/2 months. I wish I could find a functional dr but Medicare doesn’t pay for one.
That's horrible, sorry! You should get it retested if you're concerned. You definitely need to fast for that test. Can you try to go through your normal medical facility to get referred to see an integrative health doctor? Many large (even small) normal hospital chains do have integrative health doctors. They're just like functional medicine doctors. I cannot recommend them enough. I wish I would have known about them sooner. I ended up finding an incredible one this way and she ordered a ton of labs that my normal doctors would not order. I know for sure that where I'm at, Medicare covers it.
I hope you don't worry about your health too much. your life might be good but it can't be that good and 100 years from now neither one of us is be here anyway. I like what you're doing though and I appreciate it.
My first reaction is that it shows how dramatically food can affect blood biomarkers. Second reaction: in order to evaluate the results, it depends on what you are trying to improve/optimize. It looks like you already were in a good range metabolically (though I am not a doctor), so it really depends on what other things - how you feel, how are you sleeping, etc. Third, I would be a little concerned about gut microbiome. I am not sure if there are really any really good tests for that, but many doctors seem to think that fiber is very important for that and the carnivore diet absolutists tend to minimize the importance of this. Fourth, I would agree that ApoB would be good to look at. Fifth, and finally, I also really agree with the point about test results bouncing around, so almost all results should be viewed as simply one data point in a long-term trend.
Thank you! I totally agree about how food can impact labs. Prior to trying carnivore, I wanted to do it to help improve my thyroid function, if even possible. I think my metabolic health was pretty good before doing the experiment, but could use some improvements. And, there were certain foods I was eating that I was having a reaction to, without even knowing it until doing carnivore. So I've gained a lot of valuable insights from doing this. But, I have struggled with certain issues since eating this way and I haven't been able to fix them yet. People will say to just go back to how I was eating prior to this, but it's not that simple and I'm working on fixing any issues one by one. In the past, I may have disagreed about the fiber point. I'm assuming that some people are totally fine without it. But, more recently I've realized/or I think I may need some in my diet. I'll share more on this in a future video. I did have a really thorough GI test done and everything looked great, but I was lacking in some microbiome diversity. Interestingly, my son eats carbs & also dairy and has way more of a variety than me, and his results were identical to mine. I am sure everyone is different and their body will adapt to their diets. I think it can have a negative impact if you're trying to add foods back in and your body seems to now be intolerant to them...so it can take a long time to slowly introduce foods back in and get the microbiome to adjust and adapt.
I vote for most people over 30 having the CAC test done asap so they'll know their baseline score. Dr. Cywes also says that metabolically healthy people with an LDL count up to 300 doesn't raise any concern for him whatsoever. Higher LDL amounts in metabolically healthy people simply means that your LDL is doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing. Oxidized LDL isn't the cause of heart disease, it's the result of it.
Doing CAC over 30 is pointless. If you have plaque flowing around, it’s not calcified yet to be seen on the scan. Hence, false negative result. For women, CAD is more accurate after 48-50yo even. Due to hormonal changes we go through. Before that age, it’s not normally calcified yet. Women have a much lower instances of cardiovascular illness before 50. We have estrogen protecting our arteries. After 50, we catch up with men. That’s when CAC comes handy
I'm only on day 47 of carnivore but just had blood work...my cholesterol has gone up from 160 pre carnivore to 260 now...however I feel better and staying on it for now.
I would be seriously concerned with your cholesterol levels. I don't like to play around with these numbers. There's dementia, diabetes and heart disease in my family, and there is no way I'll experiment with my own body with a carnivore diet. I will go with science based evidence, and I will continue to listen to scientists on TH-cam. I do watch people like you to just get an idea of what people do and what the current trends are to have a general idea when it comes to anecdotal accounts. I practice a diet of moderation focusing on WFPB with a mostly Mediterranean approach of low saturated fats and cholesterol as my main focus. I stay away from red meat and refined carbs and sugar. I find this diet offers way more flexibility in my life and allows me to enjoy the company of my fellow human beings better.
Thanks for sharing a bit of your background and thoughts on this. I appreciate it! I have kept really detailed logs of my labwork over the last decade or so, and what's interesting is that when I was the least healthy (ie: eating processed foods and way more sugar and carbs), I had the "best cholesterol" levels. The lower carb and lower sugar and less processed foods I ate, the worse my levels became. I noticed my cholesterol was the "worst" when I did carnivore and got better when adding in some carbs. There are some theories behind this and I am considered a LMHR - lean mass hyper responder - someone who has these types of cholesterol numbers when I eat very low carb. It doesn't not have a negative association with poor health outcomes. There's been some research on this. If really concerned, I can get a CAC scan to see if I have any true cholesterol/vein issues. I will do that in the future to put it to rest. I am happy to hear how well your diet is working for you. It goes to show how different everyone is. I feel the best with a heavily meat-based, fattier diet that includes whole foods - some fruits and vegetables. It's been the best for me so far. :) I do prefer a lot of the Mediterranean foods too, except I can't have dairy. But, I prefer red meat over anything else. I feel the best with it.
@LifeDIY I am getting my lp (a) and ApoB levels checked in January. I want to know if I'm a hyperabsorber because it's possible that I have familial hypercholesterolemia, which could have been making it worse for me. Thank you for responding! I appreciate your comment. ❤️ Also, in all honesty, I have a soft spot for animals in general- especially mammals.
@@jynjerbred4718 Oh that's a really good idea to get those tests done. I should do the same. Sorry you're dealing with the cholesterol issues. Your comment got me thinking - I do need to keep up and keep track of all of this. I'm open minded about it all. :) And, I totally understand about the soft spot for mammals. :))
At 2:55 in this video the radiation values for a CAC scan seem quite high. The article, however, is from 2009. The technology has improved since then and most people should be able to a CAC scan done with about 1 mSv exposure (unless the person was very large/obese).
Malcolm, thank you! I am going to update the description with a newer study and more details. The radiation dose does vary quite a lot depending on the equipment being used, but I will share a newer study with details on that. You are correct that the doses are generally a lot lower now, with the newer scanners. Thanks @CVoreAthelete! Good point.
suggest a baseline now so you understand where you are now. I'm in my 40s and discovered at the start of carnivore that I had a very high score for my age but I knew it couldnt have been carnivore because calcified plaque is years in the making. So the baselinile is helpful to have for comparison later. They are cheap now if out of pocket.
I have been doing keto for a long time and I have extremely high cholesterol. I am super “healthy” otherwise. I found a video where Dr. Mark Hyman discusses this phenomenon in lean individuals doing low carb (I have a BMI of 17) and he calls them lean mass hyper responders. It seems that it’s normal and should not be a cause for concern. I agree that coffee could influence results but I would never give it up. I experience more benefits than disadvantages from one cup of coffee a day.
Yasmin, thanks so much for sharing this! I am happy to hear Dr. Hyman talking about LMHRs. I first learned about them from Dr. Cywes, then numerous other content creators, doctors, etc. I wish I would have mentioned it in this video but I was trying to keep it short. I'll probably write about it in a blog post and share it in a future video too. It is possible that I am a LMHR. Good to know about your experience with coffee. To me it sounds like it may have a transient impact on the blood marker, but who knows. I just need to retest in the future to know for sure, as I was also a bit sick.
@@LifeDIY I've read that unfiltered coffee - e.g., coffee from a French press - can raise cholesterol, but using a pourover filter will not. Maybe worth investigating.
So carnivore diet doesn’t seem to help with cholesterol related test. It made it worse too. My wife drinks lots of coffee and her ldl and cholesterol are fine.
I would suggest getting retested. Fasting 20 hours is possibly distorting your results. The lab where I live wouldn't even do a person's blood work if they fasted 20 hours. A proper fasting period would be 10 - 14 hours with 12 hours being a good average. And, as you mentioned, coffee might be an issue as well. Looking at all your values collectively your triglycerides don't fit in. I would expect your trigs to be 60 - 70 mg/dL (as per your previous values).
I signed up for access to my medical records late last year…I’ve only had a cursory glance at my results. Mainly just seeing that everything falls into ‘normal’ ranges....I looked up to see what some of the terms mean in my FBC, but I haven't got my head around it all yet.😕 My results are shown in ‘mmol/L’…I'm interested to know. Are your figures for ‘Cholesterol 377 ‘triglycerides 116…etc, in ‘mg/dl’ or something else.? btw I may prefer fish, but 0:48 looks delicious.
Thank you 🙏 I am retired due to a treatment error, but I am gradually getting better with the help of Carniovore and Autophagy (OMAD).😊 I no longer want to listen to doctors' opinions about how I should eat and live. In my opinion, the best achievement in medicine so far is Autophagy, it was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine. (it really works) So, why isn't Autophagy part of the treatment recommendations...because it's free treatment and self-healing. Humans have an incredible ability to heal themselves. I'm pretty strict about what constitutes a Carniovore. I think I was a Carniovore only when I also stopped drinking coffee. I drank 8-10 cups of coffee a day for about 30 years. It took a year to get rid of coffee, only then all the tiresome uric acid crystals formed by coffee had left my body. Since then, I haven't needed an electrolyte supplement anymore. In Carniovore, coffee is a problem only because of strong physical and social dependence, it has NO positive health effects.
Hi Holly I hope you don’t mind an off topic question - how long after micro needling (.25) can I use an AHA exfoliant ? And how many days before I microneedle should I stop AHAs? Thanks !!
I think most doctors recommend a week in between those treatments. 0.25 mm is a pretty low depth, so if your skin is not sensitive then it should be fine about 5-7 days before/after. Hope it helps!
Well, HbA1c seems fine, which challenges the vegan-assertion that "meat consumption causes diabetes". Your cholesterol was always going to skyrocket, let's face it. If you are leaning back towards keto now, incorporating more avocados and nuts/seeds, it will be really interesting to see how those monounsaturated fats impact your cholesterol balances. I'll be quite intrigued. Please do update. I have just done the same thing on omnivore. My cholesterol is much lower, but my HbA1c is higher, as you might expect. Personally, I think elevated HbA1c is more worrying than elevated cholesterol, although many would argue. But I'd swap your results for mine. Shine on, Holly. :-) Pretty jumper, BTW.
* "Jumper" means "sweater", here in the UK. I just remembered that you are an american who jumps up and down a lot, so you may misinterpret my meaning. Although it works either way, I guess. But in this instance, I was referring to the blue knitted thing hanging on your shoulders. How did this get so complicated? UK and US people should probably communicate via pictograms or wavy-hand-gestures to avoid confusion.
Of course your sugars will be low when not consuming carbs over a long period of time. What people are actually talking about is that meat raises Insulin, not glucose. Raised Insulin levels can cause Insulin resistance which can cause type 2 diabetes. This means your cells can use glucose less efficiently IF you eat starches, sugars etc. Carbohydrates then raise your glucose levels in blood to unhealthy levels since your cells don’t react to the Insulin well anymore and don’t absorb the glucose. High glucose levels in turn cause tissue damage. There are different pathways to develop type 2 diabetes, it can happen through high consumption of sugar or high consumption of other foods that raise Insulin levels a lot (like meat), weight gain, it can happen through hormones for example during pregnancy, ageing or genetics, some people naturally just produce more Insulin and are more susceptible to Insulin resistance like in patients with PCOS. Besides that, the discussion which biomarker is more important isn’t helpful as all your biomarkers should be normal if you want to be healthy.
@@LifeDIY To know how high your Insulin levels get after eating the way you are eating, you would have to test after each meal. As you are slim and you seem to incorporate fasting I would hope you are not very Insulin resistant yet but that can change with duration and age. The high cholesterol will probably kill you much faster. I am sorry that you have such bad doctors, this kind of ‚health care‘ is causing bodily harm to people as with fiftyplusbeauty here on youtube not long ago.
Cholesterol is not a problem as long as there is no inflammation. Really the only thing I look at is triglycerides and HDL. If you can achieve higher HDL compared to triglycerides then you deserve an award and NEVER have to worry about heart disease or metabolic syndrome! Lastly, the CAC scan is okay, but there are better tests that measure non-calcified plaques. You can always do a CIMT test to get a baseline so that you have something to compare it to when you get older. Personally I have never been a fan of carnivore due to cost and because you must use quality meat otherwise all you are doing is loading your body up with cooked oxidized meat that is loaded with antibiotics and hormones. Carnivore people are always talking about how it decreases heart disease and looking at cholesterol, etc., and while they MAY be driving their cardiovascular risk DOWN, they COULD be driving their cancer risk UP! Every person is different and it really depends on quality of meats you eat and the preparation. 99% of the people I consult with do it wrong and by the time they come to me they are in very bad health from following a carnivore diet. Young people like yourself in good health are mostly fine, but remember, it takes years in most cases for bad things to develop. The human body is very resilient and can adapt to almost anything. Keep up the good work and continue to do what makes YOU happy!
Not true. High HDL does not correlate to lower mortality but low HDL does correlate to higher mortality. Inflammation is gas on a fire but you don't need Inflammation with high LDL to have atherosclerotic heart disease leading to heart attack or stroke. High LDL w/o Inflammation just takes longer.
looking like a young Alyssa Milano. How old are you ? My cac score at 52 was 909 before I started carnivore. My score now is 1243 at 56. I passed my first stress test. I believe my three years of carnivore helped me pass. I take d3/k2 and did reverse some soft plaque. A person can ask their pc to give a referral then pay for it. I paid 100. dollars
I went from 10 years vegan to Mediterranean. My lipid levels were on the low side of health for 10 years and after one year non vegan now I'm on the high side of healthy...
I found your quitting coffee videos because I’m looking for advice on how to quit. Well, I’m doing it now, thanks for the inspiration! BTW, I’m sure you already know, but don’t worry about your cholesterol levels. It’s not really a good health marker. The reason your cholesterol is high is because your body is using fat for energy and not glucose. If you were to eat a couple of Oreos it will come down. Lol
@@LifeDIY so far so good sleep is better but not quite there yet. It really wasn't that hard to give it up really. Well done. I have Hashimotos and reduced my medication of 25mg just by quitting caffeine alone. And I wasn't even taking it at the same time at all but still had a massive impact on absorbing nutrients
@@ablurida that is great I am happy for you. @@verborgenewahrheit1594 Oh sorry about that! I haven't had those labs since then. I am meeting with my doctor in two days, so I will ask for updated labs and I'll share that in a video soon.
My understanding of a test that reveals the type of LDL is Apo B. This test reveals more about the health of your arteries then the current standard information. Also you HDL is very high
My doctor would go tear into me if I came back with those numbers. My ldl jumped to 130 and I got threatened with statins. I think the key is moderation. All these crazy diets that swing so hard in a direction seem kinda suspect
Yeah I've heard some stories like this where people with numbers not as bad as mine were told they needed statins. I am happy I have a doctor who deals with a lot of people who eat low carb, as she's familiar with how it impacts levels.
Saturated fat causes high chloesterol. Im plant based earing a lot of coconuts. My cholesterol was on the higher end. Reduced coconut products and eggs greatly and high sarurated fat products. Was retested in 7 months, and had perfect cholesterol. Reducing saturated fats works like a charm.
Bryan johnson spends million dollars per year, has a perfect athletic body, perfect bio indicators and yet lookss very old compared with her… he has a lot of wrinkles and sagging skin she has none… wtf ??? She does a millionth of what he does and yet look much more younger, there’s a corean 59 yo guy, he’s even more impressive he looks 30 maximum and is 20 years older than her, he doesn’t spend a thouandth of what bryan johnson spends to look young, wth ?
Oh no. Should be nothing eat or drink other than water. Also fasting to long or to short can alter results too. An NMR test would be nice but you would have to pay out of pocket. Triglyceride / Hdl ratio is a good poor mans heart check. Also don't see any reason for CAC. You have no risk factors. CIMT is better if you want to know status of arteries now soft and hard plaque. It uses ultrasound on the neck.
Wow, 5.9 is very high and your 4.2 is exceptionally low, especially for keto. Prior to carnivore mine was 4.9, while eating extremely low carb. Human physiology is different from person to person - so our lab numbers are not going to be similar. Even 15 years ago when I was eating super unhealthy my A1C was 5.0. My fasting insulin was recently tested and it was 3.7. Dr. Ken Barry (very popular carnivore doctor) shared his labs recently and he is said to be strict carnivore for years and his fasting insulin was 7! In addition, A1C is a singular test. Fasting glucose, hsCRP, c-peptide - are all important indicators when viewed together, along with other labs.
I feel like since cholesterol is healing, that maybe when you're in the early phases of carnivore the levels go up during the intense healing our bodies do.
whys that, ApoB depends on your genetics. Theres zilch Scientific evidence of causal/risk/correlation/association with ill health. Its just another test to run when LDL is highish.
Also, in all honesty, I have a soft spot for animals in general- especially mammals.
@@LifeDIY by the way, a CAC score of zero doesn't tell you the presence of soft plaque which is also dangerous.
Thank you! Good to know.
Outstanding labs! Lean mass hyper responder. Great metabolic health
Thanks!
Hyper responders have much lower TG levels. Hers is very high on the latest test.
Yes true. I think it was related to me being sick and fasting for too long. But, I'll know for sure in the near future as I have more testing done.
At 2:55 in this video the radiation values for a CAC scan seem quite high. The article, however, is from 2009. The technology has improved since then and most people should be able to a CAC scan done with about 1 mSv exposure (unless the person was very large/obese).
Depends on the scanner, some places use ancient CT scanners. With new CTs, can get dose down to the same or less than a chest x ray
Good point.
@@LifeDIY no problem. I just did a video on coronary calcium vs coronary CT angiogram like that being done in the lean mass hyper responder study
@@CvoreAthleteNice! I am going to check it out now. Thank you.
suggest a baseline now so you understand where you are now.
Yes it tends to worsen these levels. I was a bit unwell prior to my test so I will get retested to see how all the levels are coming up.
Thanks, Malcolm! I agree with your points. I hope I can get retested in a month or so. I'll do an update video then.
I signed up for access to my medical records late last year…I’ve only had a cursory glance at my results. Mainly just seeing that everything falls into ‘normal’ ranges....I looked up to see what some of the terms mean in my FBC, but I haven't got my head around it all yet.😕
My results are shown in ‘mmol/L’…I'm interested to know. Are your figures for ‘Cholesterol 377 ‘triglycerides 116…etc, in ‘mg/dl’ or something else.? btw I may prefer fish, but 0:48 looks delicious.
Thank you 🙏
I am retired due to a treatment error, but I am gradually getting better with the help of Carniovore and Autophagy (OMAD).😊
I no longer want to listen to doctors' opinions about how I should eat and live.
In my opinion, the best achievement in medicine so far is Autophagy, it was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine. (it really works)
So, why isn't Autophagy part of the treatment recommendations...because it's free treatment and self-healing.
I have now incorporated avocados back in - and sometimes have nuts. I will definitely do an update on this in the future! I hope your HbA1c improves!
Hahah thank you for clarifying. I did not know that! :) When I think of a jumper, I think of overalls. 😊
I paid 100. dollars
Thanks for sharing this! That's helpful. I wrongly assumed that most insurance companies pay for the scan. Good to know it's around $100. I am 41. :)
I went from 10 years vegan to Mediterranean.
My lipid levels were on the low side of health for 10 years and after one year non vegan now I'm on the high side of healthy...
That's wonderful to hear the levels are better now!

Lol
Hi! did you ever get your sleep dialed in???
Grilling out on the deck with a sea salt based rub . Got a variety pack of smokehouse brand rubs that are sensational. Have fun and enjoy❤❤❤
I just gave up coffee I'm on day 6 coffee free
How's it going? :)
@@LifeDIY so far so good sleep is better but not quite there yet. It really wasn't that hard to give it up really. I used saltt new chocolate and caramel flavored electrolytes in the morning they're designed to use with hot water so it still gave me that warm beverage in the morning so I didn't really miss the coffee. How are things going for you?
Well done. I have Hashimotos and reduced my medication of 25mg just by quitting caffeine alone. And I wasn't even taking it at the same time at all but still had a massive impact on absorbing nutrients
@@ablurida that is great I am happy for you. I do think coffee effects nutritional because I still was getting horrible leg cramps about every night so I wondered if the coffee was depleting me of the electrolytes I was drinking. Since quitting coffee my leg cramps are much better I still get them every once in awhile but nothing like I was even though I drink electrolytes all day long.

A CAC is pretty useless at your age. Almost everybody has a score of 0 when they're around forty or under even if they have plaque forming.
Yes, I assume I would have a zero.
Body fat percentage, my dude.
Bart Kay debunked the cholesterol myth
You may be a lean mass hyper responder.
Thanks, Chrissy! This is definitely possible. That's very cool you know about LMHRs.
Dropping coffee! oh no!
If you dont eat carb no way A1c 5. I was in keto six months I dropped from 5.9 to 4.2.. if yours is 5 means you are cheating a lot.
@@LifeDIY Best test to understand HOMA -ir test. A1c shows how much carb you consumed, insulin is how pankreas responding.
I feel like since cholesterol is healing, that maybe when you're in the early phases of carnivore the levels go up during the intense healing our bodies do.

Thanks! I'll do this next time. :)
whys that, ApoB depends on your genetics. Theres zilch Scientific evidence of causal/risk/correlation/association with ill health. Its just another test to run when LDL is highish. But we already know higher LDL is fine as long as youre eating a proper diet.
