290hp 265 ftlbs of torque, between 9,500lb - to 12,500 towing capacity depending on options, 1800lb payload, 12:1 Compression Ratio
Fully Loaded Crew CaB seems to be around $44k

I have a 2018 F150 with the 3.3. Runs/drives well. Not as powerful as either of the turbo v6s or V8, but Less expensive to buy and maintain. The engines are both direct fuel injected as well as traditional manifold fuel injection. So no concerns with the intake valves and carbon buildup. My truck is an extra cab XL base model. Has everything I need. Engine gets between 22 and 24 mpg depending on use.

I couldn’t agree more. Every truck or SUV I have ever owned had a V-8 and it was also the larger V8 that that manufacture offered. The largest load that I will ever pull is a car hauler and two side-by-sides so roughly 5k. Last year I was issued a brand new ram, 1500 with a V6 and after driving it for a year I have realized that I could totally rock naturally aspirated V6 and not care.

The 3.3 looks like a great engine, and would suit my needs, I may consider it in the future. As far as your pool, we have one (wife and I), my father had one too. The wife loves it, I mostly like it, it's a hole in the ground you pour money into. You have to use it and enjoy it, it does next to nothing for resale value. You can put $40,000 in a pool like my father did, and the realtor told him that it only added $7,000 to the house value. Just food for thought if/when you go to sell.

Did change 3.73 diff to Ford 4.10 which helped fill in the soft spot in top gear at 45-55 mph . Radio crapped out but $75 single DIN was plug and play . Bosch Quiet Cast front rotors best have ever owned. Same, including towing a 17' trailer, Mine is a 2014 3.7, 3.73 rear, single cab that will tow my trailer like it isn't there (except below 20 mph) and when not towing will climb into the rpms quickly and fly down the highway at 75-80 all day. Reliable as an anvil. I think about trading it sometimes (93000 miles) but it always runs like new, so I just hang on to it. Almost as indestructible as the old inline 300 inch motor. Had 2 of those, loved them and this one has more power and will tow far more.

Anytime you add complexity or additional moving parts to a vehicle it only makes ownership that much more expensive.
A turbo v6 is never going to be able to match the cost of ownership of a good old fashioned v8.

I'm waiting to see people post long term results with the smaller displacement/turbo engines. In my 2003 F150 5.4L V8 NA, I drove it to 285,000 miles from new to 2018 (15 years of daily use). It's only failures: a water pump, alternator, fuel pump in 2017 and right at the very end in 2018 the a/c compressor went. Just regular oil changes (never burned or lost any oil) and she kept on going, and going and going. This has been my experience with every NA V8 I've ever had. So I'm curious to see where some of these 6-cyl turbos are 10 years from now.

It will surprise you when passing as it will go 50-75mph pretty quick but you wont feel it until you look down at he speedo. Gas mileage isn't spectacular, I get about 19-20mpg on the highway... not much better than my personal ram 1500. mostly because its constantly downshifting on grades. Same. Mine is black, '13 2wd. It ran with a tuned SVX a few days ago. Rousch intake and Flowmaster 40 exhaust. That 7k RPM limit surprised me the first time I saw it.

As much as I love the 3.3 l I’m also a 2.7 fan there is a night and day difference in torque between the 2 . The 2.7 has proven to be a great little engine. Either one in my book, although for towing the 2.7 FTW.

In 2017 I bought a new F-150 Crew Cab with 2.7 eco-boost. Loved it. Had amazing pep and torque. About 2 years in, I started it and my garage filled with blue/grey smoke. I thought it was just a fluke. It wasn't. It began smoking whenever I first started it. I took it to the dealership. They acknowledged a common issue with the seals in the turbo-charger. Replaced a seal and sent me home. Very soon, it started again. After about 3 trips to the dealership they said, "Well, you know, it's just something you sorta have to get used to. It isn't a big deal." NOT FOR A NEW TRUCK. I found a number of videos with people having the same problem. I traded it in on a 2020 F-150 with a naturally asperated V8. No more smoking problems. I have to admit -- I loved that 2.7L and I miss it, but, couldn't handle the smoking - which would in time become a major issue. Hope you have better luck.

I have a 2013 F150 with 3.7L. Overall a good truck. Slow taking off. Only real problem is the transmission. At random times when taking off, it will rev up to 3000rpms when changing from 2nd to 3rd. Usually shifts normal. I don't like this 6R transmission. Other than that issue with the transmission, it shifts normally. Truck has 56K miles currently.

    • @FordBossMe
      @FordBossMe  ปีที่แล้ว

A lot of people didn't really keep their maintenance up on those trucks which caused some of the transmission problems and you also have to remember some of those Transmissions had Lead frame issues in the transmission

I have same truck. It’s been a great truck and have 172,000 miles on it. Only issue I’ve had was fuse 27 (Fuel Pump Relay fuse). I have also noticed the transmission thing you mentioned.

I bought a 2003 Ranger automatic for dirt cheap several years ago and it did exactly what you are saying and thats why it was so cheap. The seller said the tranny is gonna go any second. I put some Lucas tranny conditioner or something to that extent and in the tranny and it all but eliminated the slam shift for about two years, and I pulled a trailer often and I drove it hard. Eventually it only had first gear and would slam in to 3rd gear still and no reverse. I sold it for the same price I bought it for and the guy who bought it showed up in a ranger to tow it with a replacement tranny already on a pallet in the back of his tow ranger. Dude was so happy!

Just ask your Ford dealer to put the 3.3NA and 3.5 Eco and 5.0 side by side and do the comparison (with the hoods open) before you buy.
With the 3.3L you may not get the higher end trim packages you want.
From a mechanics view the simplicity of the 3.3NA is preferred. If you are buying many trucks for a fleet consider the 3.3L = will save a ton of money over time.
