Two years in the making of this documentary Lennies. I filmed a lot of it between 2019-2021. In an effort to put out unique, educational content out there for bunny lovers -- please enjoy this free, informational art. And please, adopt, don't shop 💖
That’s my vet! She’s amazing, and knows her profession more than anyone I’ve ever seen, ever. My Guinea pig has been so lucky to have met her. Two successful surgeries and daily medications that have keep him mighty. My sweet boy is very strong.
I feel so sorry for rabbits as animals. They are so misunderstood. They can't vocalize that much, even when they are suffering, they do not show when they're in pain. They seem like these cute plushies who you can cuddle at any moment and then leave in cage like and forget about it. Thank you for spreading awarness, making effort to expose those who want to make money of these poor creatures. All the best to the girl who realized how bad breeding is, admitting it in front of the camera and convincing her mom to stop.
It's not good ... why is it bad to breed rabbits ? Like you got almost free meat , cause rabbits can live in cages , eat only damn grass and pellets and...thats pretty much all they require ....
@@AnimeFan-vr3dp I hope you're not joking. Rabbits require much more space than a small cage. If you breed them to get meat I can understand it, although I keep them as pets, but at least treat them right. They are much more inteligent and emotional than people think.
@@Lazyspaceout dude I fucking feasted on rabbits meat days ago and i didnt feel any fucking guilt, sometimes you do good things just for the sakes of your feelings and you just dont if you cant or dont want to, just put yourself in her shoes mate, its not like she wanted to sold those rabbits lol Just imagine if you were born a rabbit breeder and people just gonna go shitting on face how would you feel lol ik its none of my business but what you said was fucking offensive(in many ways) and it disturbed me, alr thats it have a nice day
I couldn't help but shed tears in this video. I also have a Bunny and She's been with me for a year now. She's free in my house. I don't lock her up and I always accompany her even though I'm tired from work. She is happy when I come. I love Her and I give her all the attention I can. That's why I'm happy and right now She's in good health.
I (just recently) became a bun mom when I found and caught a domestic bunny in a park. I found his previous owners and they told me that they dumped him because he kept escaping his outdoor enclosure so they stopped trying to get him back. I knew NOTHING about rabbits. But I knew he needed a home. I’ve watched pretty much all of your videos and I am now a very confident bun mom!
My ex did this. They had a rabbit that they were tired of cleaning and taking care of it. So they went to a park and let her go. I read that domestic rabbits can't survive in the wild and that rabbit most likely died within a few days. She just thought it would go off in the wild and be fine
@@jessmcafee2557Our bun is an indoor / outdoor bun. He has a burrow that he dug under the shed and a tunnel that he dug into a wood pile. His instincts are strong!
Sigh...as depressing as this video is, I'm really impressed by the girl who admitted what she and her mom did. It's big of her to make that realization and now speak out about it. And thank you for advocating for our animal friends. I just wish more people out there educated themselves about pet ownership before making hasty decisions. It's a commitment not to be taken lightly. ❤️
She's spreading misinformation like the idea that cutting off a rabbits' genitals is good for them and that all rabbit breeding needs to stop... while she makes tons of money off her rabbit a breeder produced and hours each day doing her nasty makeup instead of actually helping abandoned rabbits like she could easily do with all her resources.... this woman is a joke
@@CheltzyBunny roughly one percent of rabbits die from spaying, if u got all to be spayed or neutered today like this insane joke is advocating for, that'd be way more deaths than the number killed in shelters and then there'd be no more domestic rabbits in 13 years so honestly, please please just shut up with this insanity and work toward rational solutions
My rabbit would be living in a cage to this day if it wasn’t for this TH-cam channel teaching me otherwise. I loved my bunny and wanted to give him as much space as possible but the thought of free roaming didn’t even exist in my mind. Thanks to this channel, my bunny moonshine roams freely around our apartment and gets spoiled with treats every day.
@@CheltzyBunny what does that have to do with cancer? Natural reproduction is good for rabbits... it doesn't give them cancer lol and many things. And many things can go wrong with spaying and neutering
This video was very hard for me to watch. How rabbits are treated even now is still hard for me to understand why. People don’t know how much it goes into having a rabbit and how much it cost. I’m happy your making videos and helping get the word out about breeding and how to care for your rabbit. You’re one of the people in the world helping rabbits and helping them have a voice ❤
I do understand that it is not good to have a crazy amount of breeders, but I had a good experience with one. I bought my rabbit from the breeder when he was 6 months old, And he was well taken care of, the breeder knew what she was doing, she told me how to take care if him, what to feed him, and what some of his favorite treats were. My bunny is three years old now, and the sweetest thing ever. So although I understand where you a coming from, it is also important to know that not all breeders are bad, it's just important to be educated properly.
Exactly this. I'm getting an Angora bunny from a breeder next week. I specifically wanted an angora for their wool and docile temperament, but there are NONE available for adoption anywhere near me. I looked everywhere to find one to adopt rather than purchase but they just aren't there where I live. Not to mention, before I decided that I wanted an angora, shelters just didn't get back to me when I called to inquire about adopting from them. So now I'm buying a very cute little 4 month old angora bunny from a breeder. 🤷🏻♀️
Agreed. There are terrible people out there who will exploit any animal, and then there are the good people and breeders who want to educate those buying their rabbits. Those who do all the right things (even if not something you 100% agree with like with meat rabbits) shouldn't be held accountable for the actions of those that are just in "hobby" for the money.
I personally want to breed rabbits on an extremely small scale. Like one or two litters per doe, and then she is spayed (retired). Maybe start one line. (Don't confuse with line breeding. That's wrong.) I don't want anybody getting cancers, and I don't want to exhaust the moms, either. I just wanna see some cute babies once in a while, and give some people some well-socialized, healthy pets. Doing extensive research on hereditary health issues and signs, too.
I rescued my bunny from a lab. She was a lab rabbit for 3 years, her brothers and sisters are left behind but sadly she was the only one I could save and her brother that my friend has. I did everything I could to get this sweet girl out of there and now she’s so happy. My days are always better with her 🥺🤍.
@@tatiaa7206 it was very unlikely for me to do that. My friend knew the person that worked in the lab so we both made an adoption report and went there a couple times before rescuing the two bunnies. I honestly wouldn’t have been able to do it if it wasn’t for my friend. We just didn’t give up and fought for the bunnies to be given to us.
I adopted my first bunny in January this year bc I was in probably the worst depression of my life and he has really saved me. I can't even imagine treating him like a disposable toy; he's my whole world. 💕
This just breaks my heart, I'm glad I did the research before adopting my bun, I'm always adapting and learning new things to improve as a bunny owner. I really appreciate your channel for not only teaching me and making me aware of these issues and misperceptions but for others as well! Thank you so much!
The conditions my rabbit came from were horrid. Rusted tiny cage and her mother was probably never ever let out if that cage. It’s the saddest thing. The first rabbit we saw, the one with all the cuts and scars, I think that one was the cutest. Such a little fighter! Praying for you bun buns. Thanks Loralei for doing this your making a difference!
Before I started watching you I kept my rabbit in a cage and not letting him out often and not giving him the right diet or treatment he really needed. Thank you for giving me this information. My rabbit passed away this summer but he lived a full life thanks to you. Keep going!!!! Good Job!
My rescue bunny came from a breeder. Hes terrified of hands and of being picked up especially. It took him 6 months to even start to open up. We bonded him to our spayed girl bunny and she is such a source of confidence to him. His personality has started to really show and it turns out he loves to jump on tables and push everything off lol. Hes still got a long way to go with the hands but hes willing to accept treats and be pet, face only, for a few seconds at a time now which is a huge improvement.
When I’m an adult, I’m planning on making a business we’re I help animals such as bunnies and save them from shelters, by this I will have a regular size room and I will have multiple of them, two bunnies will live in there each. And I will get them a wonderful home!
Omg omg, thank you! I’ve been watching your channel forever and I’ve been wanting a bunny forever, although it is my parents choice whether I get one! Thank you so much for educating me and liking my comment!!!!!
i rescued my bunny about a year and a half ago. he was aggressive and temperamental. now he is loving and sweet as can be. it takes time and patience, but there are no bad bunnies. i really hope this video gets the attention it deserves!
I appreciate seeing this comment, my pheebie is almost a year old and still very timid and skittish while also grunting at me from time to time as i patiently sit around and observe her haha. She allows me to pet her from time to time but will quickly decide she’s over it. My partner and i call her the “sassy queen.” She’s free roam and binkies all the time, especially when we get home but then turns to act like she could care less about us,I’m hoping all my patience will get us somewhere, but I’ll love my sassy queen regardless.
@@etherealrealms9381 same!!!! I just got two buns from the shelter after my sweet bun girl passed away a few months ago. They’re not super cuddly and loving like she was but I am really hoping they come around. :( I’m keeping them either way of course but I really hope they do lol
Lorelie you are the biggest influence on my animal care and so many others. I can't thank you enough, you have saved my bunny and thousands more. There is so many bunny problems in our world. But we have people like you and the Lennies who are making an impact on the bunny world around us. We need to keep fighting and never give up, the world wouldn't be the same without you. Have an amazing day!
But what this sad lady is advocating for is for no more rabbits to be bread which is insane and disgusting and you better know how many highly potential consequences there are when you choose to chop off a rabbits private parts...
@@feederdiaries4862 they said to stop breeding in horrible conditions not to stop completely, we need to stop these back yard breeder mills! We need responsible people who aren’t just in for the money and breeders should be last resort not your first call many rescue rabbits are waiting at shelters.
The night I brought my rabbit home, she was SO HAPPY, pure bliss. I have never seen anything like it and I felt so much joy. I wish I'd filmed it. She was binkying and doing zoomies. She knew she had come home yet she's one of the lucky few. Great, great job, Lorelei. Hard hard truths yet needed. Keep doing this work. I hope Oscar finds a true forever home soon.
This is so sad. Rabbits being thrown around like crazy. I felt like that girl that knew who you were knew that she was doing something terrible. My parents got me a rabbit and he is 4 now. I knew absolutely nothing about rabbits I kept him in a tiny cage because that’s what I saw everybody do but then I found Lennon his life will never be better. We really just need to show everybody that little cages is not normal they need to see that big roaming and playing and living places is normal.
Lennon also showed me how amazing rabbits are. I’ve learned so much recently and I’m working on free roaming and bonding with my bunny. Thank you so much Lorelei for all you do. Both my rabbit and I really appreciate you!
I have two rabbits when I was little and we didn't know better. They sadly died after a year. They are the buns we don't talk about. I've now had rabbits since 2016 and they are spoiled rotten.
@Ainsley, Just because it’s what everybody does, doesn’t make it right. If a wild bunny is out and about, shouldn’t the pet rabbit also have space to roam around? Just saying.
I love this documentary style video, it's so well orchestrated and it shines a light on something that most people overlook. Thankyou Lorelei for everything that you do ❤️
In my 56 years, I've had three beloved rabbits. All one at a time. Two when I was in high school, so my precious mother took 90% of their care. One as an adult. I couldn't have loved anything more. Losing her was just too hard on my heart.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Thankfully you CAN do something about it but the first step is to educate yourself about it: th-cam.com/video/LQRAfJyEsko/w-d-xo.html
I got my bunny from my uncle who had an accidental breeding situation. He lived outside in a small, wire-bottom cage with his mother and brother. I adopted him and now he lives inside. This video will save many bunnies and is a really amazing awareness for bunnies everywhere. Thank you!❤
I used to be involved in showing rabbits when I was a kid, and I was completely blind to everything I was doing wrong. I showed one rabbit for all 7 years I belonged to the club, and he was my whole world as a kid. I then got my own pet rabbit and did everything that rabbit showing taught me to do, which of course was all wrong. Your channel taught me and my family what to do four years ago and because of your channel, my rabbit Simon went from being in a wire-bottomed cage, with a poor diet, a water bottle, left locked alone all day to a happy 100% free-roamed bunny with a new bunny girlfriend named Trixie who we rescued and now helps him eat all the fresh greens in the world. Because of your channel, I rescued a special needs rabbit being given away for free who I rehabilitated and who is now my ESA, and because of you and Lennon, I went back to the rabbit showing club I belonged to, saw my old showing rabbit who is now elderly, and saw the damage that was done to him from being in that environment and I demanded he be released to me. He has eye damage from repeated untreated eye infections, arthritis, malformed feet from being in a wired cage for 8 years, and scarring on his feet from absesses from sore hocks that never healed, but he is as happy as ever and thanks to you and all that you have taught me, he is living out his final years with his new best friend Sully, my rescued special needs rabbit, free-roaming in my home. All four of my little misfit rabbits would not be living a happy rehabilitated life without everything that you and Lennon taught me, and I am certain that my two boys would not be alive. I appreciate everything you do on this channel and me and my bunny fam are forever grateful we found you and Lennon :)
I bred rabbits, after about 6 months and a couple litter I quit breeding and started a small rescue. I realize how sick it was now all the bunnies I take care of have large yards. Plenty of space. Better food, better shelters they are separated so no accidents happen. The money I earn from working goes into vet care ( spay neuter and any issues they may have) and I find permanent homes for them. I keep a few that are my babies now. I have a pet contract and adoption application for bunnies I want only to give them what others failed to give them and fighting chance I now home over 15 bunnies currently getting vetted and brought back from death. One was so badly emancipated it weighed in less then 2 pounds. He’s currently slowly putting weight back on and will be in to be neutered as soon as I can get him in. I do it all out of pocket. These guys are smart and beautiful animals with such big personalities
I follow a rabbit rescue near me. Last year I adopted one of my wonderful rabbits from them. The amount of COVID-19 rabbits they had come in to give up, is so huge. They have about 150 rabbits and some guinea pigs and hamsters. If my own bunnies die someday, I will definitely adopt from them again
This really hits home for me.. my adopted British giant daisy was rescued from a extreme breeding situation she had 3 litters by the time she was 8mths living in a wire bottom cage 25 rabbits were seized along with 3 of daisy’s children. She was petrified when I got her, would throw herself into walls trying to get away from people. but after a year and a half she is now a pampered house rabbit living the life and is completely unrecognisable from the bunny I first rescued. Thankyou for this video daisy and many rabbits like her are so thankful for your channel 💜
When I worked at a ranch they had bunnies and I separated them got them fixed and microchiped and the ranch sold them. Luckily the vet I went to fixed them all for a good price. I gave all the adopters paperwork on each of them and told them to watch this channel. I get a lot of messages from the kids still on how they set up a space for their bunny. The ranch doesn't sell bunnies anymore after they spent more money on vet bills
My baby Ludo had been in our local shelter for a few months as a give up bunny. His previous owners had him for 2 years or so, and to my knowledge he was an Easter bunny. It breaks my heart to think that he could've just stayed there until god knows when, or gone to a home to be mistreated or be given up again. But now he's my spoiled baby and he's living his best life 🥺💕 Sassy and sweet
Will you be addressing the counter argument that buying from a breeder is the better option compared to buying from pet stores, flea markets and shelters? At least when you go to a breeder you can see the animals living conditions and if the conditions are poor choose not to buy from that particular breeder. You can also see parents and siblings and have a better chance to identify genetic defects. You also get a better history on the animal than at the shelter and can choose one at the age you want, before it has behavioral problems.
Not all breeders are bad. My aunt is a yorkie breeder and she's amazing. Her puppies are very well cared for, healthy, and go to homes of people she knows or knows someone who gets them. There are a lot of BAD breeders but not all of them are puppy mills.
@@the_ethical_horse_girl Registration doesn't mean much. The AKC has recently endorsed breeders who have been found to have animals in filthy conditions.
My family rescued to bunny’s earlier this year, they were two unnueuterd males being kept in a very small hutch outside. They had very bad scares and one had fleas. It was very saddening to see that people would ever do something like that to a living soul. If YOU are going to buy a living soul please research, do your best to take care of this beautiful animal.
This was a fantastic video about such an important topic. My wife and I started caring for rabbits after my dad found one abandoned, if whoever did that to her had seen this maybe they would have kept her, or just not gotten one at all. Poor buns, they deserve so much better.
Thank you for making these videos, it is because of you my Californian is roaming free. She was abused as a meat bunny and is rescued. She has the best loving personality.
I love this video. We received a bunny as a 6 weeks old baby from an accidental breeding (it happens fast, so spay and neuter!) We were going to adopt the momma. Got a sweet baby, had several GI stasis and emergencies, got tons of advice from house rabbit society and rescues. Shocking how clever, gentle, friendly, they can be. Ours finally cleared health checks for spay and vaxx. Happened this month and now I am ready to start looking for a neutered male rescue buddy, I am that into it now. Glad she is protected from unwanted pregnancy and cancers. I would love to foster if I could get my husband on board.
Lorelei, I know these kinds of videos are so hard for you to make, I can’t even imagine the emotional toll it takes on you. But thank you for raising awareness like you do for these bunnies. You’re an angel & you have such a beautiful soul! ❤️❤️❤️
I rescued my senior lion head from his previous home. He was “free roam” but with multiple large dogs… he only ate pellets and basically lived in a couch in fear. anytime he would come out for food the dogs would attack him… he has bad ptsd but I love him so much ❤️ I’m so glad I’m his bun mom
I like the concept of this video! The lady also said there needs to be a dialogue between the breeders would make them take responsibility for what they're doing. This definitely should be a series!!
Man this really breaks my heart 💔. However I appreciate this because it brings awareness. But it also breaks my heart because this hits home for me. I've been following your channel since I first got my rabbit named Shadow. I loved her and cared for her as though she was my own child and then I got arrested and that was the last time I've seen her.😢 A leasing agent at the building I stayed in took her in for me while I was incarcerated but during that time it was close to Easter and she wanted to get her for her daughter which worried me because like ur video expresses, that usually don't end well. But what other choice did I have? It was either have her turn in to the humane society or to the leasing agent so I felt a home would be better. But imagine being in a cage yourself but worried that your pet my end up somewhere worse. I was glad she ended up in a home but I wasn't absolutely sure if she was in good hands. It's been almost 4yrs since I seen my Shadow and till this day I cry sometimes wondering and hoping she's ok and I miss her so much. I hope she was lucky. The leasing agent no longer works at that apt complex so there's no way I can check up on the condition of my baby. All I can do is pray that she's ok out there and hopefully God will lead me to her someday. What you're doing is a great thing Loralai(excuse spelling) keep up the great work. You are a hero and a voice for the bunnies!
Things this video got wrong: - In my area, a spay/neuter is $100. - Breeders ARE regulated by the USDA. You DO have to have a license, unless you sell a tiny amount. Do people not know that? O.O - Except for grow outs, most breeders have 1 rabbit per cage. - Wire floors help keep the bun clean and help prevent sore hocks in larger breeds. Now, I will agree that the industry makes small cages. I'd personally love to see much larger hutch/cages. I currently have to make my own to be decently sized.
Thank you so much for spreading awareness! This channel has helped me give my baby the best life I can offer her and I try to share rabbit care tips any chance I get. Anytime I bring my bun out I use it as an opportunity to share information. I live in a state that is very ignorant about proper rabbit care, so I try to advocate for it anytime that I am given the opportunity. I will actually be giving a speech about why rabbits do not belong in cages/hutches for a class I am taking! Thank you for all the hard work you do!
Honestly she deserves so much more attention because she is doing this to raise awareness to save bunny lives. These poor animals don’t deserves these kind of lifestyles, so thank you so much for making this content we all love you and Lennon ❤️
I 100% recommend adopting and not buying from a breeder, but not every breeder treats bunnies this badly. Of course it’s not the best thing to do, but some breeders like Hook’s Hollands take wonderful care and love their bunnies. I think it’s great that you made a video where people can be educated on why to adopt ❤️
I bought my lion lop from a breeder he is my best friend. He has turned into my emotional support animal and I can’t live without him. She is a good breeder I bought from she really cares about her bunnies and where they go. She answered all my questions about bunnies while I was waiting for crew to come home because he was too little. And she had me sign a contract stating that if I ever didn’t want him that I would give him back to her. It also stated all the things and commitments that go along with owning a rabbit. She also said that she does not sell rabbits to children or for children and she closes up shop 2 weeks for Easter because she does not do Easter bunnies. She really is a wonderful woman. I tried to rescue a rabbit but unfortunately there are no rabbit rescues in my area the closest rabbit rescue is four hours away and when I called them they said that they do not hold the rabbits and that they rarely get any in and when they do they are usually gone immediately. That’s when I started looking for a breeder and found her. I want to thank you Lennon and Lorelei because if it wasn’t for you I would have went with my mom’s advice from the 70s that rabbits belong outside in a hutch or inside in a small cage and they eat grass and other plants nothing else. I found your channel and I not only got the courage to finally get a bunny that I have been dreaming about since I was a kid but also I found out the way to properly care for a bunny. My crew is my whole world he is my best friend and I can tell I am his too.
A TON of breeders actually do this -- in fact, I've even seen meat breeders shut down sales the month ahead of Easter. This video spreads a lot of disinformation about what rabbit breeders actually do, using clips that are filmed completely out of context. Your typical breeder is not abusing their rabbits. Pet breeders (that breed lionheads, lops, and dwarfs) in particular spend a LOT of time handling their bunnies from DAY 1 of life because they are meant to go into people's homes. Show breeders also handle their rabbits a lot because you actually have to train them to be okay with being touched and held. If anyone wants to get angry about rabbits ending up in rescues, get mad at parents who buy rabbits like they're pet goldfish. Get mad at people who don't research rabbits before buying them and then discover they're SUPER expensive to spay/neuter but females can become aggressive at sexual maturity and males can start spraying. Get mad at people who think they're "freeing" bunnies by dumping them in the woods.
Thank you Lorelei. As a vet tech at a shelter I know this crisis all too well. We recently helped a couple who ended up over their heads with 20+ bunnies when they took in some rabbits that their neighbors abandoned when they moved out. These sweet people even paid to have all of these bunnies altered. (We have since hooked them up with a local rescue to help re-home the buns). It’s easy for even good people to become accidental hoarders. I’m sure this video was emotionally taxing to make (and watch), but conservations have to start somewhere. On a happier note…next week, October 17 - 23, is National Vet Tech Week! Please tell those caring techs thank you, as it’s not an easy job and you will make their day! Believe me, they really do love your animals!
Thank you very much Lorelei for your work. You are truly a blessing and I'm sure that you will possibly have led thousands to people to make better choices regarding bunnies in your lifetime. I am sad that despite all the good that you and others do, only a tiny fraction of bunnies will end up not suffering. But I am and will always be grateful regardless. Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
This makes my heart break. I am a firm believer that you shouldn’t have any animal if you not willing to take care of it like he/ she was your Owen kid. Took 20 years for me to get any pet again. I have been wanting one for a long time, but money and mental I couldn’t/ with 2 kids it’s hard been by myself. But it took my a long thought and ended up my baby girl that is part of the family and will be with me for ever. I rescued her after someone left her. She free romans in my room.
Part of the reason why I recently started watching your videos was because I was thinking of having a rabbit of my own some day. I kept seeing cute videos and pictures of bunnies on twitter, completely free roaming with their own little beds and toys. The rabbits seemed to be happy! I was so curious because I had never seen free roaming rabbits before, so I went around to research how they're trained. I'm very thankful I came across your channel. Your videos are very inspiring and informative! I definitely want to rescue a rabbit whenever I'm ready to have one. ;w;
I realize this is a video about domesticated rabbits kept as pets. Having said that rabbits, before life in the city was made affordable (something that is regressing now) most of the population would have been made up of peasants. And rabbits used to be a lifelong reliable and easily replenish-able source of meat and fur among the peasants of the country. They'd raise them to maturity, care for them, feed them and give them a better life than one of constant fear among the wilderness,, where, as a commodity food source, literally everything wants to eat you, and they'd pay that back in fur and sustenance. If all else fails and a home can't be found, instead of releasing in the the wilderness, perhaps finding a rabbit farm to donate unwanted ones to would be better. At least there they'd get some care.
Hey Lorelei I am so glad you made this video it brings such awareness to people. Me personally I got a bunny and I paid 150$ for him. This was before I started watching your videos I am very glad I have him though he is a sweet blue buck named Eeyore. If your interested at all I am studying to be a vet and I was reading my vet book and came across some animal rights organizations and the cool thing is that most science and animal programs cannot use rabbits anymore for testing and other things. But this does do not prevent people from doing testing on rabbits in secret. The scientists have to find a different alternative to using real animals and if they don't have one they can only use mice unless there are people working with rabbits specifically to help with illnesses that the rabbits have which is great. I went back to the person I got Eeyore from and asked if we could borrow one of her old breeding rabbits because Eeyore was at fair. She said yes and she also said that we could have her. We are good friends with the breeder now and I often go over to her house to give some love and feed banana and parsley to the bunnies and clean cages. Her setup is very sad she has one bunny that gets peed on because of the bunnies on top and a bunch of un-nuetered bucks in the same cage as well as does and a real mess of a place she has dogs running in and out of the bunny barn and babies in almost all the does cages. I now own the female rabbit Apricot she lent to us and the good news is this breeder is NOT going to breed bunnies anymore. Unfortunately it is only because they don't make her enough money. another bad news is she is breeding goats which I feel bad for the goats now. But I guess the bright side is that there is one less rabbit breeder in the world. Another bad thing is i know another breeder that is friends with the breeder I got Eeyore from and she is taking most of the females from the old breeder and some bucks I would confront her on this if her daughter and I weren't friends and if I wasn't only a teenager. I will keep trying though only to prevent as what I like to call a bunny break-out. Give Lennon a big hug and I hope you have a good rest of your day.
I have a netherland dwarf that was showbred, she’s white with blue Eyes and I adopted her. She is basically deaf, she has an uncurable parasite, she doesn’t know which poop to eat, she has problems with her teeth and reumatism and is only 6 years old. Aside from that she was Really scared of humans When I got her. Her former owner tried to fix her by spaying (this was not her original owner) anf then I got her and she is the sweetest bunny ever but her medical issues Are so expensive. But this just shows that breeders, even proffessional ones, have no idea what they’re doing. I come from Sweden also we’re the laws Are Pretty strict. Thank you so much for making this documentary and for Shedding light on this issue❤️❤️
My friend wanted a rabbit for a while and learn almost all of the info from you. For Easter her parents took her to the shelter and got a small pair of 2 middle aged rabbits. They truly are spoiled. Sadly they don't free roam the entire house 24/7, but they have 24/7 free roaming in her room. During the day there Aloud To roam outside in the house for a few hours. You helped her so much, thank you on the behalf of Toast and Dumpling. Her precious fur babies ❤
In our bun’s cage he has a plywood bottom covered with a puppy mat. Once he got out of his puppy chew faze 😂 he now is free roam. But he still considers his cage home turf that he marks with all his little coco puffs 😂. He’s an indoor / outdoor bun that is out most of the day.
you are an incredible person Lorelei. Beautiful inside and out. This was so well put together, great work, brought me to tears. When she said that YOU (and Lenny) are making a huge impact, she was totally right. You are truly an inspiration.
Hi Lorelei, I've enjoyed watching your videos over the years. Particularly the increasing knowledge and information you're sharing about the ethical and moral dilemma of bunnies. I would love you to contact us in Australia, in particular The Rabbit Sanctuary in NSW. We are currently experiencing such unheard of numbers of abandoned and surrendered bunnies to our foster carers and rescue shelter. Keep up the great work. Regards, Anna.
Oh yep! Hey previous child rabbit breeder here. It was my step dad technically but I did 4H as a child (like ages 10-13). We did mostly rabbits for show (no meat pen- until the last year because I was told I had to) I wanted bunnies, as many children do, we had converted an old shed (used to be for chickens) to the bunny house, which would have been fine for ya know like 10 max with how big the area was. But my stepfather kept buying more at livestock auctions and by the end of the one summer I had like 100 at leasttt. That is tooo much for a 12/13 year old. I was responsible for watering and feeding and cleaning cages- which would take half the day to do. There was definitely too many. Over breeding, over crowded, injuries, cannibalism etc. When friends or potential people who wanted to buy one want to come over- I had to pre walk through to make sure no bunnies were half eaten, or missing a leg. It was awful. AWFUL. I loved them but it was way too much for me. A tree fell down on the converted shed and then a bear came around and most escaped or were snatched up. After that last year I said This isn’t cool anymore I’m done. And most were taken to livestock auction or to friends. Besides the ones that escaped. It still bothers me to this day, because I was just told I wanted it suck it up. But I wanted a couple max not over 100 😡😡
Wow your step dad sucks. Idk why some parents try and find something to gain from their kid wanting a pet. They have to make it about profit or show for themselves when you just wanted a creature to love and pet :/
@@ceeciecee9563 I absolutely loved doing 4H. We grew up in the country so it was the thing to do. I did goats and pigs too. It was just the rabbits loved them but quickly overwhelmed and it was constantly put on me like what you want me to do?! This is is insane. After that year though I was done with all of it because he def ruined it
Thank you for making this video. Lucian was a child’s 4H project. He was sick and the family wasn’t going to give him vet care. A kind neighbor who has house rabbits took him to the vet on her own dime and found homes for all of the babies before they went to slaughter. I was working at the vet they brought him too. I nabbed him right away. Now he’s living his best life, but the other babies went together to be outdoor farm pets for kids.
This p documentary really changed my perspective on rabbits I didn’t do breeding or anything before and I never will cause this video thank you so much Lennon and Lorelei for being so amazing and sharing everything I need to know😊
This video hits so hard.. I have 3 rescued buns one that was recently dumped in our yard and after a week we finally caught her and im forever thankful we did vs someone else cause she will have a safe forever home
I remember watching your video on the hoarding situation and keeping up with Oscar,my heart was so broken to hear the family that adopted him gave him up because they got new pets. I struggle to understand how a family can adopt a pet, make it apart of their family for years and then think about getting new pets that could interfer with the fuzzy family member they ALREADY have.
Everyone sayinf "oh if breeders didnt exist then we wouldnt have rabbits" or " as long as its a good breeder then..." LITERALLY WATCH THE VIDEO FROM 20:00 ON IT EXPLAINS EVERYTHING!!!
Im literally lying in bed crying my eyes out🥺 you have taught me so much since getting my bunny!! Im so greatful for people like you i wish i could rehome them all !!
I work in a petshop and the shop I work at used to sell rabbit, after I helped them see the bad side of selling rabbits we are now now longer selling them and refer people to the rescue nearby. It's a small step but I am really happy
I got my Tango from a rescue because the pet store sold a family a male and female pair that were intact. All those babies ended up at the rescue. Now we can't imagine life without Tango The Destroyer! 🤣
Best way to help with the issue is making it required to have a license to breed rabbits like the lady in the video said, but also have required inspections twice a year that breedera have to pass to keep the breeding license. 1 inspection being planned and the 2nd one being random at some point in the year so that beeders have to be on their toes at all times
You’re amazing Lorelei 🙌🏼 and this is your life mission 💯🐰💫 spreading this kind of awareness and compassion 🙏🏼 thanks to you and other rabbit educational channels my bunny Puff lives like a freaking king 👑🐰
I'm happy to have rescued all 4 of my rabbits. Two of them have unfortunately passed (Beau from old age and Morrigan was a baby who had a spinal injury. They've been cremated and with us forever💙). Bella was my first rabbit (she'll be 5 soon) and she was living in a plastic storage bin. She was underweight and losing fur behind her neck. Gimli is 3 and was living outdoors. We got him in February of this year and around the time it was raining.
When I was little, we had the typical bunny situation. Someone gave us 3 bunnies (told us they were all girls) next thing we knew we had 20 and we couldn't even give them away. We didn't keep them in a tiny hutch (but an outside building we heated) but being so far from the house they kind of got forgotten by us kids in favor of the cat. I love bunnies but that experience put me off getting bunnies ever again. I felt I could never get a bunny just to keep them outside, caged bunnies look so sad. Finding this channel, learning about free roaming; I might actually adopt a bunny know I know it CAN BE a part of the family.
I got my Luna at 8 weeks from a shop. This was before I knew about your channel and everything about bunnies. Now she is a free roaming 6 month old who was just neutered a couple weeks ago. I plan to get her a boy friend at the start of next year and I will definitely be adopting an older male. Great documentary. Thank you
Watching this just makes me want to get a bigger place as soon as possible so I can start rescuing bunnies as well as other animals more than I am able to at the moment. Thank you so much for making this video, I love to learn more about bunnies and there were definitely some things in here I wasn't aware of when it came to the breeding industry. Keep up the wonderful work you and Lennon are doing! Edit: cried so hard over Oscar, I want him so badly!!! Is there a way to get him to Washington? I'm sure Aeron would love him and my cat and bunny are best friends, I would definitely teach him to go for walks with the 3 of us 🖤 I am so glad that I got Aeron when I did, I went back to get one of his siblings (the runt of the liter, she originally was claimed but the person changed their mind) and the lady told me that she gave them to someone to feed to their animals. I cried on my way home and for multiple days after because I was so upset that I hadn't taken the rest home.
My poppy was lucky thanks to you because he has been a free-roaming happy family member with my family for 4 years now. he was rescued from a pet shop with a bad health condition and left to die so I couldn't leave him there even though I had no interest in having a bunny. after I brought him home your videos help me to make his life better and I really want to thank you for he is living a good life thanks for you. you have collected more good karma than you can ever imagine.
Hi I have had 2 bunnies before. Get a litter box and food/water bowls, lots of toys and bunny proof the space they will be staying in (cover wires etc)
Hii! I got my rabbit when I was 12 and of course still have him; he's my baby. He's now three years old~ I recomend watching plenty videos on taking care of rabbits, what they need (food, toys, space, etc.), and do's and dont's. Of course Lennon's videos have it all, this channel helps alot! I would say as a way to prepare MENTALLY with your first rabbit, it is patience. When I got my baby, he wasn't too interested in me which made me feel like I was simply caring for a random animal rather than a pet who I have bonded with. The thing is you have to give your rabbit time to feel comfortable with you and their area, they're not going to bond as fast as a puppy would; this can take a few weeks. Also, not all rabbits are the same, everyone has different personalities and likings so don't expect your rabbit to be and act the way Lennon does or any other rabbit you see. The actuality to owning a rabbit feels quite different than how it is when you watch videos of rabbits. I will say, you may make mistakes along the way and you will learn from your own experiences with your rabbit. They're a lot of responsibility but great pets, tell us how it goes with your future bunny when you get them!
A couple years ago my ex boyfriend (was not ex at the time) had encouraged me to breed bunnies. I had got a few buns and one was pregnant at the time. The issue was i wanted to keep them all indoors and i wanted to give them all time to free roam. And i realized very quickly how difficult that was for 6 rabbits. The babies the one i got had were adorable and so sweet and i felt really happy raising those babies indoors they were so social and i was able to litter train all the adults and the babies. But selling them was hard and making sure they went to responsible good indoor only homes was very very hard. So i decided after that first litter i couldnt do this i couldnt contribute to the problem. I hates going to the breeders around my home seeing rabbits outside in tiny cages even in bird cages, some had injuries from dogs biting at their feet from underneath. I thought doing it my way would be a step in the right direction but i just couldnt put the rabbits through that. We ended up spay and neutering the adults and i tried my best to find great homes for them. One of them went to a friend who fosters for a great rabbit rescue here. And we just kept one to completely spoil and free roam and she was the absolute best bun. I always had a bunny in my teen years. Well i had 3 in total all house buns all fixed and only one at a time. I like it better this way. I think as a breeder i was doing better than most but there are so many bad breeders that it wouldnt have made any difference. But not contributing to the numbers made me feel better.
There definitely is such thing as a good breeder that’s why there is backyard breeders, breeding mills, and registered breeders (for any animal not just rabbits). You can’t just view the bad breeders and claim every single breeder is the same. That’s not how it works.
I agree. I've had my bunnies from babies, my friend breeds them (sometimes). All the animals are amazingly well cared for and I continue that now for my bunnies. I am all too aware though that this isn't the case for all rabbits and it's so sad and frustrating that people don't understand the care they need OR the amazing reward you get from a relationship with your bunny/bunnies x
I agree. She really Vilified all breeders exactly ARBA breeders who go by SOP.(Standard of perfection) I have teddy and angora and Rex. Let me tell you the amount of care that goes into fluffy bunnies. The few litters I have a year are one tattooed, registered, and have a show home if I'm not keeping them. I never sell as pets because they need someone that known the care needed. I have to say PET homes are the worse. They are the ones not caring for a bunnies they get or dumping them. I don't see ARBA breeders going to shelter to dump bunnies. Infact alot of use build building just to house are bunnies....spending thousands of dollars on our bunnies. Wish she show case that but no it doesn't fit her negative view
@@brittnyhawk8633 exactly. I myself have had two litters my entire life with bunnies and every home they went to, are Still with their original forever families. I have a very strict contract in place and they have I let me know of any rehoming plans or I can take legal action. So far none of them has had to be rehomed and I still get updates of them all lol
Thank you I will be sharing this anywhere I can! I adopted one rabbit and shopped one rabbit before I realized how bad this was. I am quite the advocate. Both my rabbits are spayed and healthy and living happily cage free. A dream of mine is to be a volunteer rescuer when I have a home to properly house dumped rabbits. I love them so much
Unfortunately I live on Maui in Hawaii and there are almost no rescues for bunnies on my island so the only option is to buy from breeders. I’ve asked rescues and the Humane Society to bring bunnies from California but it’s not something anyone will do
Hi! I also live in Hawaii (Maui then now Big Island) and yeah it really stinks! I have found there are still a lot of mistreated buns that end up in the humane society or up on craigslist which is unfortunate. There are some rescues on Oahu (T&J that I can think of) if you could fly over to get one but it is extremely hard! I have two bunnies right now, one from what I thought was a "good breeder" before I had done enough research and one that is a rescue. I wish we could help all the rescues somehow in Hawaii as well but its hard enough to find anyone that will even let you fly with a bunny.
We are getting our two new Flemish Giants from a breeder. We have visited and seen her set-up, the babies are well socialised, potty trained, raised inside their house with lots of handling, their two children are the sweetest and crazy about rabbits, and the adult rabbits are frequently brought inside to hang out with the family (around the babies of course). They are a very small operation and you can just tell how much they all love their rabbits. So we are very excited and I feel so lucky to have found this particular breeder. The examples in this video are shocking.
I will NEVER get a rabbit from a breeder again but the one I got mine from were kept in large pens, they had information about how they need a lot of space, can be litter trained, and many more like how to rabbit proof. They were also very experienced and they had expensive prices which I appreciated because they were pretty thorough with making sure all of them went to great homes. Their rabbits would also each get special attention and had a lot of time in between litters to relax, still I want to adopt a rabbit if I ever get another rabbit
The breeder I got my rabbit from was the exact same. Excellent living space, thorough rabbit care, hay and pellet purchase suggestions, dieting recommendations. There are some good breeders, but the bad breeders are more common and harms the rabbit community.
Excellent, excellent, EXCELLENT video, Lorelei!! Hands down your best yet! And I love that you got Dr. Kanfer involved, and the LA Rabbit Foundation. Thank you for this one.
So I raised rabbits for meat. And loved every single one of them made sure that they were cared for. Not every single rabbit breeder is terrible. Sometimes people breed rabbits because they're the lowest cholesterol meat and it's better for their health. Also Europe and many other countries keep rabbit on their meat market because it is the most healthiest and most economically friendly as well as environmentally friendly made available. Rabbits have always been a meat source prior to the 1960s 1970s when they started to be seen as a pet source only. Please be more knowledgeable before you start leading every breeder into this evil category. My point being that not every rabbit breeder doesn't give a s*** about their rabbits. The first time I had to butcher a rabbit I cried cuz I didn't want to do it but my family needed it. We were struggling and we had to eat. But I quickly realized that the best respect I can give them is making sure that they have a high quality life before I have to use that meat. That is the goal of any breeder to make sure that whatever life you're giving to these animals it is high quality that you're not mistreating them. That should always be the goal
You raise rabbits so that you can murder them. The crying child, who didn't want to murder the bunny, who you used to be, had compassion and empathy. A bunny is alive and very much doesn't want to be killed. Excuses and explanations for murdering rabbits and other animals doesn't change that fundamental fact.
I agree with you honestly. I have a rabbit and I have chickens (I don’t breed or anything, my rabbit is my pet and so are my hens) but it kinda sucks to see that people will be attacking meat breeders or breeders who do actually do a good job. I’m a vegetarian but I still understand and acknowledge the fact that people will eat meat and that it is what it is. Like I love my hens and they’re my pets. If we are going to be bashing rabbit meat farmers then why not the entire meat industry. Hens are pets too. They’re smart and social and they are extremely affectionate my oldest 2 are almost 7! Breeders who keep their animals in small cages and inclosure or the egg industry for example where the living conditions are absolutely awful and they deserve to be bashed. As long as you’re taking care of your buns and giving them a good quality life for as long as you can It’s understandable imo.
@@simritsidhu536 this video is about rabbits and the poster you are responding to mentioned breeding rabbits for meat. That's why comments against breeding rabbits for meat are being made. It's not to the exclusion of other animals. No one has written "but it's OK if other animals are bred for meat". Rabbits are the topic and comments are staying on topic. Not mentioning the cruelty of the meat industry towards all animals doesn't make the comments that call out folks writing about murdering rabbits less poignant.

They do show pain. You just have to learn their body language.

Awesome! Good for you. Great story :)
My ex did this. They had a rabbit that they were tired of cleaning and taking care of it. So they went to a park and let her go. I read that domestic rabbits can't survive in the wild and that rabbit most likely died within a few days. She just thought it would go off in the wild and be fine

Humans are prey animals, too. Animals are not food. They are sentient like us. @BIGBigBoiNICK
Humans are prey animals bruh @BIGBigBoiNICK
@@CatoftheStormI hate it when people call it a hobby, when they ACTUALLY mean "I'm exploiting animals I don't care about for cash." Ew.

My rescue bunny came from a breeder. Hes terrified of hands and of being picked up especially. It took him 6 months to even start to open up. We bonded him to our spayed girl bunny and she is such a source of confidence to him.

Thankyou Lorelei for everything that you do ❤️
The shelter 'Lennon' you showed in this video was my foster 2 years ago! I sure hope the little bun are living their best house rabbit lives!
Yeah
In my 56 years, I've had three beloved rabbits. All one at a time. Two when I was in high school, so my precious mother took 90% of their care. One as an adult. I couldn't have loved anything more. Losing her was just too hard on my heart.

I never cried so hard when that woman said that Lennon will help save these rabbits it’s the truth but it just made me ball
I'm actually doing a persuasive essay on why you shouldn't buy from breeders. My professor has told me that it is a interesting topic.
I would love to read it!
As long as the breeder is registered and does everything responsibly it's okay to buy from them.
@@the_ethical_horse_girl Registration doesn't mean much. The AKC has recently endorsed breeders who have been found to have animals in filthy conditions.
i was crying seeing this, it really does hurt that this is reality... Lennon is lucky and in the future i hope all bunnies is that lucky!
Yes ❤️❤️❤️
This video breaks my heart 💔 thank you for all you do to raise awareness about rabbits
That's so upsetting! Hope your bunny is happy and healthy now🤍
Thanks for your good heart 🤗 🐇 💕
Things this video got wrong:
- In my area, a spay/neuter is $100.
- Breeders ARE regulated by the USDA. You DO have to have a license, unless you sell a tiny amount. Do people not know that? O.O
- Except for grow outs, most breeders have 1 rabbit per cage.
I can think of a a few pro’s for breeding rabbits. 1) For food (they are livestock). 2) So you can adopt one.
@@Kressa1111Did you watch the video?
You left me in tears.
Someone has needed to say this for years, and someone has finally did it. Thank you.

Part of the reason why I recently started watching your videos was because I was thinking of having a rabbit of my own some day. I kept seeing cute videos and pictures of bunnies on twitter, completely free roaming with their own little beds and toys. The rabbits seemed to be happy! I was so curious because I had never seen free roaming rabbits before, so I went around to research how they're trained. I'm very thankful I came across your channel. Your videos are very inspiring and informative! I definitely want to rescue a rabbit whenever I'm ready to have one. ;w;
This shouldn’t have to be a problem, people should do there research as they do for a dog and cat!
They dont really do much research for dogs or cats either always....So many people are neglectful of both their children and pets.
@@TigerwomanXsweden I know! it’s sad how they treat animals like they don’t have a voice

After that year though I was done with all of it because he def ruined it
Bless you Lorelei for the effort and passion you put into this project.

thanks for advocating for bunnies. animal rights is a heroic endeavor
Not going to lie I kind of cried a little.

True
So sad and unfortunate that you have to live on Maui 😞
@@ArtistChibi yeah I definitely agree. If someone asked me if I support breeding in general I would probably say no because majority don’t do good
Excellent, excellent, EXCELLENT video, Lorelei!!
I also raise rabbits for meat (and show) and I can’t agree more with your comment
@@xBeps lol I never said that it stated breeding other animals for meat is ok. I was just saying
