I am so trained that my brain is always subconsciously looking for hazards my bun could get into. Is there any chocolate or avocado around? Are all the cords secured? Is there anything bad on any surfaces he could get into? It becomes second nature. I’m sure it seems overwhelming to those new to rabbit cohabitation but it becomes easier when you’re fully educated which is why this channel is so amazing. Saving rabbits, educating and giving them the best life is my mission too!
I know right!? I'm a heavy sleeper but I wake up at the sound of my buns being up to no good. My brain is trained to know the different chew sounds of their toys or whatever they might take an exploratory bit out of. You have to always be alert and it's never ending. Even with your whole house bunny proofed they just find new things to stress you with every day. They are worth it though :D My little trouble makers are worth all my new grey hairs. Their new thing now, is that they like to chew off the wrapper off bottles.... they did that on the same day I spent £70 on toys and treats because of course they did...
me too everyday im cleaning my room and keeping things off the floor and surfaces that he can get to 🥵 its like im on autopilot now- is this what its like being a mom? lol
@@Toytocute It really is what it's like to be the parents of eternal fluffy naughty toddlers heh You always need to be on alert, they can sense weakness and they will hop on any chance to go where they shouldn't go and eat what they shouldn't eat.
Omg yes and it annoys me so much when other people don't see it! They come over and leave their shoes on the floor and their drinks on the floor too! Don't be mad at me if you have a nibbled shoe! 🙊
I have four bunnies. Before I found your channel, my bunnies lived in a small cage.... but now they have a room where they can do whatever they want.... thank you Lorelei
That was a mistake almost everybody was making, because so many rabit cages are out there, and I grew up seeing rabbits in cages. Until I saw this video, I didn’t know what the original purpose was for keeping a rabbit in a cage. I’m so happy you were able to provide your rabbits a room where they can be rabbits! Must be so fun to eatch them!
@@KARINCLANE what about a hutch? My brother just got a rabbit legit today and at this moment the only thing that we have to keep it in is in a pretty big dog kennel. We have 7 dogs so we have to keep it down in the basement which is pretty big. My brother is only 7 and doest know much about bunny's so I'm just researching what all bunny's can, can't eat. What is dangerous to them, whats not and all the other stuff. Should a hutch work for the bunny? Cause my parents and I are trying to find one on Facebook for a decent price cause we're not trying to buy one from Walmart with cheap wood, and material's. We should have a hutch by next month if not sooner.
@@jaymessmoyer340 Unfortunately most people don’t understand that getting a rabbit is more complicated in its care than what we believed before. Rabbit care isn’t cheap, but you don’t have to get expensive supplies that you can get much cheaper in other places without the name brand. Rabbits do, however need lots of space to run around and play with toys, so the basement would be a great area, as long as you have the hutch unlocked. You also need to get the rabbit a litter box. A lot of hay will be needed, in separate places, to rat, nest and for its litterbox. There unfortanately will never be a time the rabbit can explore upstairs, unless all the dogs are out of the house. Sorry, if I offend you, but bringing in a prey animal to a house with seven predators was not the best idea. Especially since rabbits need lots of attention. You have to provide it. You might get another rabbit to keep the other company, then again, it’s back to the dogs. From my past mistakes, I can tell you that you need to research a potential pet, before, not after, you get the pet. There is plenty of info and youtube videos about rabbit care. Good luck. 🙂
@@KARINCLANE The dogs i have are shih tzus which are said to be calm and fine around rabbits and cats but I'm telling you right now they chase everything and bark at trees.
My aunt just got a rabbit about a week ago, so she brought it over today, and she was living in a cage the size for a hamster, there was one toy, no litter box, no hay, unlimited pellets, only one rabbit (she goes to work all day everyday so she doesn’t have time to let her out), there was a water bottle, and the cage was covered in cedar shavings. Thanks to you and your channel, I was able to tell her what she was doing wrong and how to fix it!
I know how you feel, I lost my heart rabbit recently, he was 12 years old though and had the best life. Just take care of her and she'll live a long life. My little boy had also inspired me to adopt and help others ❤️
My bunny died two days ago. He was almost 13 years old, he was the little king of the house. He lived in total freedom in my room (but did not leave his carpets so easily, more comfortable for his little paws!). He had everything he needed, in food, in hug. Now it's so sad without him, so calm ... I've been totally devastated ever since. It's hard, 13 years with an animal..its not nothing. It is often when we lose them that we finally realize how much they brought into our lives. So take care of your animals, and they will take care of you too.
Can we just appreciate the fact that Lorelei not only is taking the time out of her day to help us learn about bunny’s but also that she looks flawless doing it
I had my bunny in cage fo 6 years. After 3 months of freeroaming Piki is completely fransformed, happier, he runs like hell, comes to you when called, not affraid of anyone at home, i even saw his first binky. Thank you Lorelei for your channel.
Bunny proofing is key. I always walk around the room and go "if i was a naughty bunny what kinda mischief could i get myself into" it helps identify problem areas:)
And then they always show you ONE more thing and make you even more paranoid 😂 I was cooking one day and heard a noise, looked, and mine had removed the vent cover from the floor and was about to explore my under house duct work! What a nightmare that would have been!
I would tear the pictures off the wall and chew them up then pee on them (this is what my bunny did) also it’s a full picture wall so there are some near the bottom
I got my bunny last year, and at first we were so mean and I feel really bad, we kept her in a cage and we always held her when she didn’t like it. I’m so great full for Lorelei and Lennon’s channel because they helped me so much to have a healthy relationship with my bunny. She is now happy and free range around my whole house including my backyard, our whole house has been bunny proofed :)
My favorite way to spend time with my bunnies is laying on the floor and letting them hop all over me. They don’t like to be pet, so this is a perfect way for me to interact with them. Btw love this video!!
How I spend time with Luna: cuddling on the couch (she plops down near my feet when I am stretched out, or comes up behind me), helping her open her subscription boxes, hiding treats in her toys, laying down on the floor and letting her come up to me. She loves hopping on Bundad's back!
I miss my Hunny Bunny so very much. It’s been 2 weeks since we lost her & I’ve been crying every day. We would let her free roam, she’d hang out with us in the living room all the time. We loved on her constantly & it’s been so devastating now that she’s gone. We just got her ashes back late last week, & it’s just so surreal.
I have a free roam bunny, my parents continuously insist me to cage her (but I don't 😏😉) I have learnt rabbit care from your channel and you know in the whole city I'm sure there is no happier rabbit then mine!!! thanks Lorelie and Lennon 😘
Before I watched this channel, I used to put my bunnies outside and once, a cat hopped into our yard and one of my bunnies started thumping so loudly that I went outside to check and saw the cat. Thankfully no one was hurt and after that, I never put them outside again.
I made soooo many mistakes when I first got my rabbit (cookie) but watching your videos have helped me SO much! thank you! Cookie has never been happier
I’m glad to know that I covered all points here for my bunny. He’s a Continental giant and I know their lifespan isn’t very long in the first place, so I’m always looking for ways to extend his life.
Because my bun is very sickly, I spend a LOT of time with him to support his journey and his mental health. I sometimes even sleep in his playpen at night so that I can give him attention whenever he needs it. I know that sometimes he needs his own space, but I still make a point to be nearby to watch over him. I definitely agree with all of these points as they can extremely influence the longevity of your bunny's life. I actually wish I would have done blood tests sooner when he turned 3 during his annual check-up so that I could've maybe prevented some of the current health issues he has. I think once a bunny turns 3, an annual check up should include a blood test or ultrasounds which can give you valuable information about their organs and hemoglobin/sugar levels. It'll help let the owners know if they have too much sugar in their diet, are dehydrated, or even more serious conditions like organ disease/failure.
Wow, you know what to do- but why Just one Bunny? It's Essential for them to have another one around...keeping one alone is not natural and Not good for it's mental health, consider getting a playmate because you can't be around your Bunny 24/7 like another bunny
@@markb.562 Thanks for your suggestion, however, my boy is way to poorly to introduce that amount of stress into his life. Before his diagnosis, he was actually in a trial bonding situation, but that stress caused his condition to worsen very rapidly. As his owner, I am doing the most responsible thing I can do and the best for his health. He is as happy as he can be being a single bun. If he was blessed with his illnesses being completely healed, then I would not even hesitate to introduce a friend. However, those are not in his cards. Remember that not every bunny is meant for a bonded fur mate even though we think it may be the best option. It really depends on each rabbit.
@@Msxallisonwonderland I'm in a similar position, my bun Jasper has a myriad of health conditions and is in old age. He did have a buddy until start of 2020, but when the buddy passed I decided not to get another bun. His health would make bonding very difficult, and while I fully agree that buns need a lot of socialisation i'm thankfully in a position to give a lot since I work from home - my office is in his room so I can give help/assurance when needed and he knows where I am so he can come over if he's lonely. Usually though he just likes the sounds of people so I just talk a lot out loud to him
@@markb.562 I keep my bun alone, but that's because my sister has a bun who is male and not fixed. My bun is a girl, who is not fixed. We don't have a vet around, so we can't do anything about that. But we send lots of time with them
My bunny has outsmarted me once when I was trying to block off this room she literally found a way back in! She’s really smart! When we didn’t free roam her and had to close her pen she literally found every possible way to get out! So we started free roaming her cuz there was no point if she would just escape
I spend time with BOTH of my buns by making them "work" for a few treats or sitting with them and letting them smell me, hop on me, wherever. During this time, I'm watching them and watching YT vids(especially LennonTheBunny). We chill out!
We’ve had our bunny for about a year now, she’s two. We let her free roam, every morning I cuddle, pet and talk to her for about 15 minutes . We get up make her salad, fresh water and fill up her hay bin. Fortunately my husband is retired so hers home with her. After work I sit outside with her and we play, I brush her. We made her own little park with grass and shelter , that she loves! We love her and she’s brought so much joy to our home.
8:00 please note when taking them to a vet let them check the molars as well. My female had hooks and painful cheeks and was eating with difficulty and needed surgery 3 months after I adopted her. And the hooks can be returning due to way of eating.
I have been obsessed with your videos recently. My boyfriend bought me a bunny a few months ago, and I want to make sure I take care of her correctly. He wanted me to keep her in a hutch with another bunny that they have but I have been convincing him to let me free roam them! Your videos are extremely helpful:) Thank you for all the useful advice and tips!
Can we talk about how Lorelei is the bunny queen and knows so mush I have been watching Lennon’s and Lorelei’s videos since March 2020 when I got my rabbit she has helped me so much bunny proof and just keep my rabbits happy and healthy and they are free roamers💕
Its been 2 yrs since I brought my rabbit. 1st 6 mths I kept him in a small cage, then gradually I changed to a bigger cage and from last month I am free roaming him. All thanks to Lorelei!
Love your videos! Rabbits are so smart, they don't get enough credit. We taught our bun not to go into our bedroom. The living room/dining/patio is her space, and the bedroom is ours. She stops at the bedroom threshold and waits there patiently whenever we are in the room! We credit her free roaming/bunny proofing to you! Thanks for all the information you provide :)
This is the best bunny info channel. I got my bun in April and have followed most if not all of Lorelei’s advice. My little Lewie is 100% free roam and has been since I brought him home. I followed her liter box advice and it has been perfect for us. I love spending time and playing with my little guy. He has even gone on a couple of camping trips with us (in our 5th wheeler) which I think her really loves just being with us and being apart of the family. We have 3 dogs and sometimes I think Lewie thinks he’s a dog too! Huge thank you for your channel.
But she is always telling people to feed 80 % hay, that is not good. The diet should be herbs fresh meadow and leafy veggies, 80 %, 20% hay, other veggies, fruits and seeds.
@@yashakawaii No. You're incorrect. A rabbits's diet is 80 - 85% hay. They need that for their digestive system to be able to poop. The 20 - 15% is pellets, veggies, etc. You got it all wrong. Look it up
@@yashakawaii I would like to have a talk with your source about this information. Because this is VERY incorrect and small minded to even think that a rabbit's diet is only 20% hay. That was DEFINITELY not from Google. That's why a proper rabbit care website or booklet, says they need unlimited hay. That goes for Bunnies and Rabbits. So yeah, the info you stated is incorrect
@@sallysmith9771 based on experience myself, from specialiezed rabbit vets. Have you ever seen a wild rabbit to wait for the gras to become hay before eating. The best for the digestive system are fresh gras, herbs and veggies. Everbody knows when drying food, it is loosing vitamins. The same with hay. Also Pellets are the worst food you can give. They may cause serios health problems. Yes the fibre based food is essential but also the silica in fresh gras. I posted 2 links with Information in Englisch and German on the Video before, which has been deleted and never checked. So i as you guys to Check an that topic before telling me I am all wrong. I have 4 rabbit, what is another topic, as rabbits need conspecifics. Yes hay is important but its like only having dried food to eat.
Can I just say thankyou to Lorelei because she has helped me so much when taking her care of my rabbit. She has now become free roamed all thanks to you Lorelei!
"The rabbit effect"-- a phenomenal insight. We could also call it "the human effect," underlining how closely humans and bunnies reassemble each other in terms of emotional needs.
If my bunny could speak she would probably complain about how much attention I give her lol 😂 she is 100% free roam but hides when she’s over me. I’m actually thankful for the pandemic in a way because it has allowed me to spend so much time with her. She cuddles by my feet while I work/study. My perfect girl ❤️
Do you put your bunny in a dark room at night time when you put her to sleep or lights on because I got 7 weeks baby bunny and I am wondering what shall I do.. shall I turn the lights off or on at night time for him?
@@Prince-xx9cp rabbits do not navigate well in the dark. I have night lights on around the house at night so she can see while hopping around at night. I would recommend putting night lights for him
Hey Loreli! today I wanted to say that recently my rabbit passed away, i still continue to watch your videos because they remind me of my bunny and make me feel better, thank you so much. you are such and amazing TH-camr and before my rabbit died, i watched your videos and i learned so much. Thank you.
lorelei is a teacher for the newbies getting a bunny like me, but im getting two- im really excited she does it so professionally i love her channel ive been watching it all die, im trying to soak in as much info as i can before the buns come
So everyone i'm here to say that me and my bunny are going to be graduating to free roaming after almost 2 years I have finally convinced my mom to free roam him! No more Hutch!!! (Well the hutch is life a home plate but unless guests are here it will always be open!! just because hes a indoor rabbit and its next to a door to the outside!)
Hey congrats 🎉🥳👏 but please tell me that how do u convinced ur mom I'm not saying that she lives always in a cage becoz she's 90% free roam but I want her to live 100% free roam 😔😔
Hi Lorelei! I love how you talk and deliver information. This channel is so informative and reliable. You are one of the reasons why I am able to free roam my bunnies and give them proper care. Watching your videos made me realized that it is doable.
Recently I got a new bunny (I named him ozzy 🥰) my parents don’t want him living inside so I’m trying to change there mind by showing them it’s a good idea and I’m responsible. Now he’s been living inside for about a week!! We let him run around all day long! He absolutely loves it 🥺❤️ I think everyone should free roam there bunnies indorse. Thanks to you he’s living a happy life! If any of my friends get a new bunny I always make sure to recommend your Chanel. My best friend recently got two bunnies so we are both helping each other :) love your Chanel!!! ❤️❤️
I can’t free roam mine all the time since we have other pets and we didn’t know all of this before but I often put blankets on the floor and let each of my bunnies free roam one at a time for hours!
My rabbit named Sunshine, we adopted her and rescued her from a abusive owner who didnt know about rabbits and kept her in a small cage, with nothing with a bit of cat food! No hay, No water, NOTHING! Because of the lack of hay, we had to remove her front teeth. She is now a happy, healthy rabbit! ( as typing this, she was licking my arm lol )
So lucky she did not die especially with cat food, my previous rabbit got into some cat food and it cause GI stasis we gave her sq fluids and tummy messages, she made a full recovery but it was scary. So glad Sunshine is with you!
Just a note when you're looking for danger look up too, I brought my bun into our back yard once thought it was safe and then saw a hawk in the tree like 20 feet away and I'm 80% sure it was eyeing my bunny licking it's lips. It's scary but danger can come from anywhere with a bunny.
I am myself a degu mom, but also loving aunt to little bunny. My brother's family doesn't take the best care of their bunny, not even on my degu care scale, which is somewhat similar to bunny care. A lot of hay should always be available and less treats (although bunnys tolerate treats better). I do my best to hint my brother and his family to give more attention to their bunny when it seems that all their attention goes to their year old puppy. These educational videos have been a great help. Thank you❤️
I recently adopted my second mini lop, I named him Nicolas🐰. He’s a daredevil lol he hops on top of the highest things. I have added steps every where for him so he can get around my room and furniture with ease. His fav is when i come home and we can just lay on my bed, he hops around me we use the phone and then we both take our fav spots on the bed and just chill. Nicolas makes my day🐰💙
I am honestly so thankful for your channel, because of you one of my buns just became free roam in my room my other is in an ex pen until they are fixed and bonded! Thank you so much for educating me and so many others!
I usually spend time with my bunny in my room, he doesn't like to go down the stairs haha. When he is active I like to jump kind of like binkies and he jumps too ^_^ he is spoiled so he loved to be pet usually when I'm reading or just relaxing on the floor. He likes to run around me when I exercise. He is wonderful and I'm so glad I have learned so much so he can live a long life. He's been there in these tough times and he's honestly the reason that I'm alive. Show your buns all the love, they really love you ❤ thank you Lorelei for all your advice and knowledge on rabbits. ^_^
Hey Lorelei ! I think another good point that could’ve been made is about second hand smoke, essential oils, perfumes, incense etc with bunnies . It’s really harmful to their little respiratory symptoms and we should bring more awareness to it. Your videos are always super informative, helpful and you’re very good at raising awareness. Thank you for your content and always giving important information on bunnies!
Oh man, you would have loved the enclosure I had for my buns. It was 8 ft x 8 ft, and I put in linoleum flooring. They had a tunnel, a phone book to rip up, a ton of chew toys, fresh veggies, a ton of hay, a daily fresh water bottle, two litter boxes, places to hide and hang out, and when I got home they free roamed around the apartment until they got destructive. They were my first fur babies, I loved them so much!
OH MY GOD YES THEY ARE SO SMART!! My rabbits are about six months old (free roamed in my room) and when they were about 2 months old, they would escape their expen all the time! They were tiny so I had a towel clogging up the spaces and they would pull it out, escape, and push it back in
morning cuddles and head scratches! I often do my school work on the floor while he distracts me by playing his little game of "jump the legs". Teaching him tricks and many pets. some of my fav ways to spend time with my bun.
my friends older sister has a bunny that she adopted and it was extremly obeese. the old owners of the bun thought it was cute and funny but she was not having it and just couldent handle to look at it, so she put up an offer to take the bunny and give it a better home but the people said no and kept refusing cuz they "loved" their bunny so much. but she wasnt backing down, so she ended up offering $300 just to save this poor rabbits life. now the rabbit is two years old and is living the best life, he has a healthy diet and is free roamed through the whole house, getting exersise everyday! she even started watching your channel a few months ago and youve been a big help too her rabbits lives aswell :D
I don’t remember if you mentioned keeping rabbits outdoors (living outdoors) but for me at least that is a big one. We adopted our two year old bunnies at an all bunny rescue about a year ago and the rescue told us in their previous home they had lived in a hutch outside. Fast forward to last week one of my bunnies went into gi stasis from pinworms he picked up at his first home. There are a lot of things that you and maybe even your vet can’t see until it’s a problem that they can pick up outside. Hugs to you and Lennon ❤️
Nice to hear from you, I have been feeding squirrels. I do not get to see Bunnies but squirrels are cute too, they have great character. Bunny strokes, make the paws.
Thank you for this video! I learned so much! Lennon is so cute 🐰 I don’t have a bunny yet, but I am learning as much as I can so it can have the best life it deserves!
I love to sit or lay on the floor or my futon and let my bunnies come up to me. I never seen an overweight bunny like that before. So sad! I blame videos that glorify them with names like “chonk” for encouraging it and pet stores like PetSmart and Petco for selling things bad for bunnies like yogurt drops. There is a huge learning curve to owning a rabbit and so many people are unaware of how detailed it is. Rabbit owners need people and bunnies like you! ❤️
So helpful! You are literally saving lives - bunny lives! Can you please make a video on how to remove urine stains from your rabbit’s fur? I’ve noticed one of my bunnies sometimes has urine around her pee hole and I don’t know how to clean it off because it’s a sensitive area.
Had a female rabbit 10 years who loved her cage. Door was always open except at bedtime. She chose to go in to potty, nap, etc. She was very shy and felt safe there despite being allowed to free roam the entire house.
Acorn's teeth growth is abnormal, so she's had one or two teeth removed before and she needs a vet appointment every 6 months, just for a checkup or whenever she stops eating. (She's 3 1/2)
Thank you Lorelei for always encouraging people to free roam their bunnies. your videos motivated me too, to think of ways I can designate a place for Archie (my bunny). My house is very open and difficult to bunny-proof but I'll try my best (:
I just got my rabbit yesterday. He was doing amazing with his litter habits. I LEAVE HIM FOR 2 HOURS AND HE PEED AND POOPED ALL OVER HIS BED! I can't stay mad at him because he is the most precious creature in the life at the moment
Hey lorelei , thank you so much for making these educational videos, they really help me develop into a better pet parent, I have a free roamed bunny her name is coco and honestly there is a big issue here, in India we don't grow Timothy or alfalfa so it is almost impossible to find hay cuz the imported hay costs way to much ,plz make a video on this problem bcuz I know how important hay is for bunnies but for now I feed her lots of veggies ,hay based pellets and grass(occasionally), btw u are looking gorgeous 💁🏻❤️
I have a lil bun, his names Theo. I recently just won the fight with my parents to get him fixed, his appointment is next week. They still insist I keep him in a cage, but I try to take him out as much as I can. Im going to keep fighting them on letting me free roam him, because he deserves so much more space then he gets at the moment. I make a point to take him outside (in a safe and controlled area) so he can run around in the grass. Before I got him I watched like, all your videos- my parents often tell me to ration hay because they dont want to go buy more, but I always make sure he gets more than he can eat in days everyday. Thank you for all youve done for the bunny community, Im going to continue using your videos to try and get my parents to let my baby free roam.
My Holland lop is 10 years old. This year he started having dental problems. He’s had 2 dental operations this year. The vet said that dwarf rabbits are susceptible to dental problems. After he’s last dental procedure, he has stopped eating hay. The vet said that this happens to some bunnies as they age because of their dental problems. The vet said to have hay available, but to feed him lots of greens, as well as pellets. The most important thing is to keep his weight up. But I’m worried about him. Could you create a video about the special needs of dwarf bunnies??
Hope your bun is doing better now and eating hay again. If not, this might be worth a try: Make haycoocies. Blend pellets, hay and veggies (or water) in a blender or foodprocessor until it forms a stiff dough. Feed small doughballs to your bun. Can be stored in fridge for a few days. Or form thin cookies from the dough and dehydrate in fooddehydrator, or in oven on lowest setting with ovendoor slightly open till completely crisp and dry. Can be stored for a few months (at least) if stored cool and dry in an airtight container. Hope your bun will eat this 'machine-chewed' hay. 🍀
I’ve just brought the hair buster to try on our bunny, we haven’t groomed him yet with anything other than a lint roller, he is only 5 months old though Our bunny is loving his days with my mum at the moment as she’s working from home so he gets attention and love almost all day 😊
Lorelei: "Where ever there's cows and horses there should be hay. Unless you live in Antarctica..I..I..don't know what to tell you." Me: laughing so hard for no apparent reason Also thanks for all the tips very educational. ❤️✨
My bunny Oreo has a routine, he loves to sit & be petting in the morning while I'm reading the news or drinking coffee. He loves to follow me around the house during the day. In the evening, he loves to be with his family so he goes from one to the other for "LTP" (long term petting). When he's feeling good, he stretches out in the middle of the floor just to "chill" with us. Periodically, he'll hop up to check in & get a few more minutes of petting.
Thank you, Lorelei. As always you are so informative. I learned a lot from you and appreciate animal care.❤️ Id just like to share a bit. Its just sad that most vets in our area only focus on dogs and cats. I wanted to get my bunny fixed when he was still young and now hes already a year old. Thankfully, he got over his hormonal issues and all the honking and circling so i dont have much to worry about. He's now just a sweet, playful bun. But still i was hoping to get him fixed so he could be healthier and live longer. Anyone else here who have not fixed their buns yet bcoz no vet specialize on buns around your area?👋🥺
I had a rabbit that got 13.5 years old! That does take a lot of extra care 'cause their bodies aren't really made to maintain themselves so long. So how did we keep him happy for so long? - he lived outdoors all his life. He weathered blizzards and heatwaves, never staying indoors until his last years when he couldn't regulate his body temperature well anymore so then we'd keep him indoors during the afternoon in the summer. His outdoor lifestyle made him very resilient and he really thrived, being able to eat vegetation, dig, explore, and sniff fresh air. He had a hutch and a large pen, we made sure that he always had enough space to zoom around. - He had friends. He wasn't fixed. The first half of his life, we didn't know any better, and the second half of his life, the vet didn't think it smart to put him through surgery, but he had constant visual contact and daily nose-to-nose contact with his friends. At night, if you sat still quietly for a long time near the hutches, you could hear them communicate. - We monitor our bunnies closely. We keep a really close eye on their food, droppings, water intake, activity, behavioral patterns, and body language. This meant that we always were on top of any health issues, never waiting to call the vet even though it costs money. The minute you let a rabbit's health decline, its lifespan shortens, its life quality is in danger and it all becomes life-threatening in a matter of hours. - Lots and lots of hay, grass, weeds, herbs, and veggies. No sugar, except the occasional carrot. - Grated carrot mush whenever things get tricky. It's easy to chew, yummy, contains lots of water, is refreshing when they're stressed or overheating, and is full of fiber so very good for their GI track when they're not well. Bonus point: it stains their nose bright orange which is the cutest thing ever. At the end of his life, it was a daily thing (contains sugar but he was so old and really struggled to keep his weight on). - Twice yearly vet checks for his teeth (bad dental genes...) - No human fussing too much. If they don't need to be handled, then put them down and let them live their best rabbit life. If you're constantly touching them just for fun, it interferes with their nature which stresses them out. Obviously, if you need to give medication, care, move them, or check up on them, it's okay but remember that they're not dogs, they need their own personal space most of the time.
We 'visit ' eachother regularly. She hops up onto the couch with me whenever I have a cup of tea or snack and will usually get a rationed piece of treat She always wants to eat what I have. We always end up having a long snuggle session. I often visit her in her spaces...she sticks her head out to invite me in despite my oversized body so my arm and head suffices and we have more cuddles and conversations. Every time we pass eachother we give eachother a nose bump and a pat or kiss.
Where I’m from, vets cost $20 and not $100 for a routine checkup. Spaying costs $250. Hay is not readily available. It costs about $30 for 2.55kg (90 ounces), it comes from other countries, and due to COVID delays, it can make up to 2 months to find any hay (even the bad quality) at my country.
Along the lines of ignoring safety measures: as a rule of thumb, do *not* use disposable pee pads for litter boxes. They are dangerous for your bunny, as the bunny can chew it up and ingest some of it. Plus, they are very wasteful and bad for the environment. A much better option would be to use more natural materials for litter box bedding, like pine pellets and paper based litter. These options are also compostable/biodegradable, which makes them better for the environment and makes litter box cleanup super easy if you’re able to dump the soiled litter outside. If you live in an apartment and can’t dump the litter outside, you can also get biodegradable trash bags for litter and other compostable items.
please ignore my account name i’m too lazy to change it from middle school but they make reusable pee pads a lot of company’s make washable pads for guinea pigs and stuff, i used them with my one male rabbit and they’re awesome they don’t get torn up i just vacuum the poop off and then thoroughly wash the pad
Hi Lorelei! thx sm for the vid! SO helpful! some ways i like to spend time with my bun is teaching him tricks, and cuddling with him! I totally appreciate the work you put into this video!!!!
While Honey Bunn would be thrilled to have a whole house, she is so destructive that she cannot be trusted with my carpet floors. She has chewed out enough squares in my floor as is. She's got a fair size enclosure (20 square feet) with her own flooring to tear up.
Their new thing now, is that they like to chew off the wrapper off bottles.... they did that on the same day I spent £70 on toys and treats because of course they did...
me too everyday im cleaning my room and keeping things off the floor and surfaces that he can get to 🥵 its like im on autopilot now- is this what its like being a mom? lol
@@Toytocute Short answer: yes! 🤣

Hey Alberto
My bunny died two days ago.
He was almost 13 years old, he was the little king of the house. He lived in total freedom in my room (but did not leave his carpets so easily, more comfortable for his little paws!). He had everything he needed, in food, in hug.
Now it's so sad without him, so calm ... I've been totally devastated ever since. It's hard, 13 years with an animal..its not nothing. It is often when we lose them that we finally realize how much they brought into our lives.
So take care of your animals, and they will take care of you too.
Can we just appreciate the fact that Lorelei not only is taking the time out of her day to help us learn about bunny’s but also that she looks flawless doing it
Omg yessss she beautiful
She’s so pretty and she also looks like a bunny imo hehe
There's a difference between naughty & inquisitive
I would tear the pictures off the wall and chew them up then pee on them (this is what my bunny did) also it’s a full picture wall so there are some near the bottom
Even if you don't have a pet rabbit, it's good to watch "Lennon The Bunny". Because if you see someone doing something wrong, you can teach them. 🐰
I made a lot of mistakes when I had just gotten my rabbit but Lorelli has helped me make adjustments and I'm very thankful that she exits 💕

I miss my Hunny Bunny so very much. It’s been 2 weeks since we lost her & I’ve been crying every day. We would let her free roam, she’d hang out with us in the living room all the time.
Cookie is such a cute name for a rabbit!

Love your videos! Rabbits are so smart, they don't get enough credit. We taught our bun not to go into our bedroom. The living room/dining/patio is her space, and the bedroom is ours. But she is always telling people to feed 80 % hay, that is not good. The diet should be herbs fresh meadow and leafy veggies, 80 %, 20% hay, other veggies, fruits and seeds.
@@yashakawaii just wondering, what is your information based on?

Is your rabbit neutered? If it isn't then how did you teach it not to be or poo everywhere?

I spend time with my rabbit usually by watching youtube and snuggling with him on my bed. ( He enjoys snuggling a lot!)
Wait COCO IS A DWARF RABBIT (coco is mah Holland lop)
I have a Holland lop as well and she’s 1
Hope your bun is doing better now and eating hay again.
If not, this might be worth a try:
Make haycoocies.
@@dasja9966 Thank you so much. I will try it. 😊
I’ve just brought the hair buster to try on our bunny, we haven’t groomed him yet with anything other than a lint roller, he is only 5 months old though
Our bunny is loving his days with my mum at the moment as she’s working from home so he gets attention and love almost all day 😊
I already keep an eye on all these but I feel like I should be doing more!!
I love that you free roam your rabbit because so they can live the best life
Lorelei: "Where ever there's cows and horses there should be hay. Unless you live in Antarctica..I..I..don't know what to tell you."
Me: laughing so hard for no apparent reason
Also thanks for all the tips very educational.
- Twice yearly vet checks for his teeth (bad dental genes...)
- No human fussing too much.
She hops up onto the couch with me whenever I have a cup of tea or snack and will usually get a rationed piece of treat
She always wants to eat what I have.
Lorelei you look AMAZING! How do you have timeeeee
Thank you for your wonderful videos! There are so many misconceptions about rabbit care and your channel is a wonderful resource 🐰
While Honey Bunn would be thrilled to have a whole house, she is so destructive that she cannot be trusted with my carpet floors. She has chewed out enough squares in my floor as is. She's got a fair size enclosure (20 square feet) with her own flooring to tear up.
Same here mine live in a large ex pen with puzzle mat flooring. I think it’s a really good set up with some additional floor time 😊
I am getting a bunny on 29th Jan and i am so grateful for Lorelei to give my bunny knowledge
