Vegetarian food options here will be: Gado- gado, Pecel, Lotek (those three are quite similar but different), Ketoprak, Lontong Sayur, Urap, Pepes Tahu, and Tinutuan/Bubur Manado. For snacks, there’ll be Kembang tahu, Klepon, Onde-onde, also fritters like oncom, bakwan, cassava, fried banana, tofu, and of course the legendari Tempe. We use Tempe a lot so you can find any dish with Tempe in it. For Tempe, you can find Tempe mendoan (fried with half cooked dough), tempe goreng (fried) or tempe goreng tepung (friend with dough), tempe balado (sauteed with sambal), orak arik tempe (sauteed with sweet soy sauce), etc. Hope this helps!
Actually we have a lot of food that can be included as a vegetarian food. Like soup for example, we have many types of soup(for example: sayur bayam(spinach), sayur lodeh, sayur asem(savory) that can be combined with side dishes such as perkedel (made from potatoes), bakwan jagung(corn), tempeh, tofu, pepes tofu, and many more.

Great video! Thank you for sharing your first-time experience trying Indonesian street food in Jakarta. Your enthusiasm and curiosity in exploring the different dishes are infectious and enjoyable to watch. Your positive attitude towards the local culture and food is truly admirable, and it's great that you were able to find your new favorite Indonesian food. Keep up the good work and looking forward to more of your adventures! Greetings from Jakarta, Indonesia 🇮🇩 😀👍👍
okay, indonesia has a lot of amazing street food, they're delicious and cheap, but sometimes different vendor has different taste, eventhough its actually the same food, for instance nasi goreng. if you had delicious nasi goreng at one vendor, you might also get a bad one at the other vendors. it also applied to soto, bakso, mie goreng, mie ayam or whatever it is, so my suggestion is if you already found one good vendor, you might want to stick with it..
😱 that’s crazy it can be so different, but I think we’ve already noticed that a little!! I’ve ordered Nasi goreng a lot already and it doesn’t always taste the same!
@@blameitondanny this is so true, there is a nasi goreng vendor here, it used to be good, the sucessor uses same recipe and same ingredients, but taste veryyyy different
1st one that you eat is called Risol, it's same like springroll but it's added with bread crumbs on the surface, usually it's filled with chicken, smoke beef & mayonaise, also vegetable or white noodle, 2nd one that you eat is satay, there's 3 main ingridients of satay, chicken, goat & beef, usually chicken satay is using peanut sauce, goat & beef satay is using soy sauce added with chili, onion & tomato, 3rd one that you eat is another kind of baso, name is Baso Malang, Malang is another city at east java where there's Mount Bromo & Blue Fire Ijen, this dish is contained of Baso (meatball), meat tofu, fried dumpling, fried meatball & somay/dumpling, added with beef broth, 4th that you've eaten is sweet(manis) martabak, there's savory one called martabak telur(egg), it's contained with duck/chicken egg with minced beef & scallion, then put inside the crispy dough If you're in Jakarta you must go to taman mini indonesia indah, right there you can visit many traditional house/culture in Indonesia in one place, Then please discover Indonesia to go to many cities, such as Bandung, Yogyakarta, Malang, Padang, Aceh, Medan, Bali, Lombok, Toraja & many more, you can find how's Indonesia have many traditions & culture in each city/province, Hope you're enjoy in travelling at my country!! 😊

You got it, Natalie. “C” is always read as “ch” in Indonesian. The terang bulan (how we call sweet martabak in my place) that you had was slathered with margarine, but some versions are made with butter instead so they’d even be more indulgent. There’s a lot of vegetarian and vegan-friendly options in Indonesia, but you have to ask every time so it’s better if you have a local to go with you and ask the vendor beforehand. For example, my favorite vegetarian-friendly dish is lontong sayur (chayote and rice cakes in coconut soup) but sometimes they do add non-vegetarian ingredients like dried shrimp to up the umami.
We're trying to learn some Indonesian while we travel around (but obviously this video is from when we FIRST arrived) so we're getting there slowly 🥰 Luckily I'm not a strict vegetarian/vegan. I'll eat meat sometimes, I just don't prefer it. So even if I order food and it comes with meat, I'll usually just give it to Carles 🥰 although I'm not a fan of the dried shrimp 🤣🤣🤣❤️

If you order 3 pcs of chicken satay you can't, because the price of 25,000 or more includes 10 pcs. And try buying chicken satay at store(homemade)because it's originally from the island Madura east java. Usually the sate is bigger than the on street food... and in South Jakarta it is quite expensive in several places because it is an elite area, even the prices for houses, office buildings or embassies of several countries are in South Jakarta. Even for local people (Indonesian) the price of food and the cost of living there is also a bit more expensive when compared to East, West, North or Central Jakarta 🙏
even in a padang restaurant. there is long bean curry and cauliflower. if put on top of warm rice. it feels like heaven. martabak that you eat. it is called moonlight. there is 1 more martabak. namely egg martabak. you can tell the seller. don't use meat. My advice if you want to interact with Indonesian people smoothly. show your cellphone with the google translate screen. by writing (without meat). it is much clearer for Indonesians to understand.
Many tourist said that the combination of chocolate and cheese is weird, but when they tried martabak chocolate cheese, they're love it! 😂 U have to try savory martabak, we called it martabak telur (egg martabak with beef), it's so good 😍 For vegetarian food: u have to try Gado-gado. Gado-gado is indonesian salad. Served with many vegetables and peanut sauce. Btw, i think the chicken sate who carles ate didn't seem to have peanut sauce on it. if u buy sate, there are two sauce options. peanut sauce (saus bumbu kacang) and sweet soy sauce (bumbu ke kecap). so u have to say, "mau sate ayam pakai saus kacang ya.." (i want sate ayam with peanut sauce)
We hope you can try them some day!! We've had some really good food here ❤️❤️❤️ (someone even told us about an Indonesian version of pad krapao that we still need to try 😱)
I remember going to Greece with my family and my dad wanted chocolate and cheese crepe, as an Indonesian that was a normal and a good combination. I went to the register and they shouted “CHOCOLATE AND CHEESE ?!?!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS !!!!!” We went back and forth for while of me trying to confirm my order. In the end I was like “fine chocolate and peanut butter” cuz I was getting embarrassed and we were kinda in a hurry
You guys should’ve asked butter instead of margarine on your martabak. They use Dutch butter Wijsman. Next time tell them to use butter, just say “Wijsman”. That’d taste a lot better seriously 🙌🏼😊
there are lots of vegetarian food, you can search via google for the best taste and price..and the most favorite of them all, we call it "Gado-Gado, Ketoprak and all of it can be eaten with Bakwan/bala-bala"..and you must be try pisang goreng crispy ... wellcome to indonesia and enjoy it
I'm glad that you guys were enjoing your first taste of Martabak Manis or Terang Bulan. It has different names depending on which region you are and it has also a savory version called Martabak Asin/Telur with Meat filling and is fried. Martabak manis should be consumed at max once a year for me because it is packed with lots of calories LMAO Be extra careful when travelling to Medan and make sure that you are in the safe neighborhoods esp. at night as some parts are not advisable to visit for tourists due to crime issues but Medan is safe in general. Have a safe travel in Indonesia and looking forward to your next videos!

3:50 it's called Risoles. It's basically an Indonesian version of Risolle. 12:15 we don't know who invented it, but some people said it came from the island of Bangka (Sumatra). BTW, fun fact, it has different name across Indonesia, such as Kue Bulan or Terang Bulan in Bali, Eastern part of Java, and some other places, Kue Bandung in Semarang, etc.
The risoles were really good! 😍 I’d love to eat them again!! And thanks for letting us know!! We kept seeing ‘terang bulan’ but we didn’t know it was the same as martabak 😱

Thanks for the explanation! ❤️ it was so funny when Carles ordered 3 (pieces) and they thought 3 portions 🤣
u must try gado gado, ketoprak, no meat.
or bakwan, tempe goreng, pisang goreng, tahu isi goreng, perkedel (smash potato),
So many veggie options! 😍😍😍
even in a padang restaurant. there is long bean curry and cauliflower. if put on top of warm rice. it feels like heaven.
martabak that you eat. it is called moonlight. there is 1 more martabak. namely egg martabak. you can tell the seller. don't use meat. My advice if you want to interact with Indonesian people smoothly. show your cellphone with the google translate screen. by writing (without meat). it is much clearer for Indonesians to understand.
I LOOOVVEEE the way she said: "Kacang" :) Thank you for being so adventurous by ate all the steet foods of Indonesia. BRAVO to you both!
🤣🥰🥰 thank you!
Aaaa finally ,, love your video 😊
Thank you 🥰🥰🥰 we love your martabak! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Many tourist said that the combination of chocolate and cheese is weird, but when they tried martabak chocolate cheese, they're love it! 😂 U have to try savory martabak, we called it martabak telur (egg martabak with beef), it's so good 😍
For vegetarian food: u have to try Gado-gado.
Thanks so much for all the info! 😍
Because basically it western culture, cheese are just for savory tasted food. They never add cheese for something sweet.
Terima kasih sudah berbagi pengalaman kuliner Indonesia... Semoga makin mencintai kuliner dan budaya Indonesia... 😊😊
We love martabak so much! 😍

@@NataliesPassport if you want veggies you can try gado2 jakarta is full of local food and western foods .enjoy guys and be carefull gbu always
I remember going to Greece with my family and my dad wanted chocolate and cheese crepe, as an Indonesian that was a normal and a good combination. I went to the register and they shouted “CHOCOLATE AND CHEESE ?!?!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS !!!!!”
We went back and forth for while of me trying to confirm my order. In the end I was like “fine chocolate and peanut butter” cuz I was getting embarrassed and we were kinda in a hurry
Ngotot betul penjualnya 😂 biarin aja sih suka2 yg beli
@@putrik6498 motto “the customer is always right” ngak di ikuti 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣 that’s so funny! Yes, it’s a really strange combo in the west 😬 although we’re getting used to it now here! 😍🤣
You guys should’ve asked butter instead of margarine on your martabak. They use Dutch butter Wijsman. Next time tell them to use butter, just say “Wijsman”. That’d taste a lot better seriously 🙌🏼😊
We’ll have to try it next time! ❤️
wow just a few days you got a thousand subscriber. Upload more videos don't too long.
Sate padang is delicious, should try this
Thank you❤️❤️ we’re surprised our first two videos are doing so good here 😱🥰🥰 we’ll have more videos coming soon!
there are lots of vegetarian food, you can search via google for the best taste and price..and the most favorite of them all, we call it "Gado-Gado, Ketoprak and all of it can be eaten with Bakwan/bala-bala"..and you must be try pisang goreng crispy ... wellcome to indonesia and enjoy it
Thank you! ❤️ we love gado gado!!
Next, you should try the savory one,it's called "Martabak Telor" . It's a crispy pancakes that consist of eggs, chicken or beef meat and scallions.
It sounds so good! 😍
go to bali or lombok. it will be your unforgettable experience. 🥰🥰
We’ll be there for a couple days after traveling across Java 🥰
I'm glad that you guys were enjoing your first taste of Martabak Manis or Terang Bulan. It has different names depending on which region you are and it has also a savory version called Martabak Asin/Telur with Meat filling and is fried.
Martabak manis should be consumed at max once a year for me because it is packed with lots of calories LMAO
Be extra careful when travelling to Medan and make sure that you are in the safe neighborhoods esp. at night as some parts are not advisable to visit for tourists due to crime issues but Medan is safe in general.
Have a safe travel in Indonesia and looking forward to your next videos!
Thanks so much! ❤️❤️ we’ll have a new video up soon!
The sweeteness make you can't stop eating. Happy to see you eat martabak which one of the best food, you'll find many amazing food here. Welcome to Indonesia
Thank you! ❤️ it was so good!
what you ate in last, called martabak manis (sweet martabak), mostly recommend after you eat that you should have martabak telur (savory martabak) to wipe out of the feel of the sweetness.
But the sweetness was sooo gooood! 😍😍😍
Martabak the ultimate guilty pleasure. I swear most people that frist try it say they will only eat one because how overwhelming it is but end it up eat a lot lol
Lol it was so good!! 😍 we’ve already eaten it again since this video!! But now we know we don’t have to eat the whole thing 🤣❤️
Halo Brother, Martabak Juga adalah makanan Favorit Saya. Tapi makanan Favorit Saya yang paling Utama adalah Ikan Karena Ikan Mengandung Nilai Gizi Yang Tinggi Dan Sehat, Dan Juga Sayur-Sayuran Seperti Sawi, Wortel, Bayam, Dan Kelor..
Martabak is so good! 😍 but I’m sure fish and vegetables are a lot healthier!! ❤️
The first thing that you eat is called "Risol" the inside is actually mashed potatoes and vegetables... Really good for a breakfast 👍
Oh wow! I love mashed potatoes and vegetables - no wonder it was so good! ❤️
Risol 10k itu? pedagang nya ngasih hrga makelar ke pembeli turis atau emg normal harga sgitu?
The risoles were really good! 😍 I’d love to eat them again!!
And thanks for letting us know!! We kept seeing ‘terang bulan’ but we didn’t know it was the same as martabak 😱
Welcome to Indonesia brother and sister ....enjoy .....❤❤❤
Thank you ❤️
Team martabak manis🥰
You are both make me Hungry i wanna order martabak on go food right now:)
Lol!!! I was editing the video at 10pm last night and came SO close to ordering one because it looks soooo good 😍😍😍😍😍 we hope yours is amazing 🥰

Good to know so we don’t go home and try to our cheese with chocolate 🤣❤️
@@NataliesPassport no you don't have to try 😁✌️
@@ludyfirst 🤣🤣🤣

Thank you ❤️ we’re having a great time exploring Indonesia! 😍
Thank you for tasting our National Pancake Called “Martabak Manis”, Indonesia has so much different cuisine. As a pescatarian, I'll suggest you to try our GADO-GADO (that's our national dish that made from mixed vegetables with peanut sauce) it's also really good to try! Well, as you said before in your first video in Indonesia, we’ll see you in Sulawesi Island and don't forget to try our traditional food Coto Makassar and so much more here in this island...
Warm regards from Sulawesi Citizens 🙏🏼
Aww thank you!! ❤️ we’re excited to visit Sulawesi! 😍 also both martabak and gado gado are amazing! 😍
@@NataliesPassport enjoy Indonesia Guys!!! Welcome!

Aww thanks for watching! 🥰
Glad you guys loving Martabak ❤🤩
It’s so good 😍
One thing about Martabak…u know that it’s like having a guilty feeling in every single bite coz those tons of margarine, but u just can’t stop eating😂
So, what’s next after JKT?
Bandung? Jogja? Bali?
🤣🤣🤣 so true!! Lol it was so good though, really we couldn’t stop! 😍 after one week in Jakarta we flew to Medan to start our 10 days exploring Sumatra! 😍
@@NataliesPassport ough…uncommon route for most of other tourists, but heyy North Sumatera also hv a lot to offer to u guys. Toba Lake is a must tho😁
I know u guys are so much into food, Medan & Siantar have some of the best food there. Happy exploring guys👏✌️
@@NataliesPassport Take a trip to Bukit Lawang when you exploring Sumatera, to see wild Orangutan. It's a national park tropical rain forest.
@@NataliesPassport only 10 days? You can only use it to explore a province there. Better just enjoy north sumatra in my opinion. Lake toba, bukit lawang, and medan. Next time, try to visit west sumatera and south sumatera to try the food delivacy of sumatera. This two provinces are the center of the culinary in the island. More of it, west sumatera offers a lot of breathtaking sceneries there. Enjoy your trip
@@recochannel1905 yessss lol 🤣 our flight leaving Indonesia is out of Makassar so we wanted to go to Sumatra at the beginning so then we could work our way east across Java 🥰
Relaxed couple, looks romantic without making it up, I love your vlogs about food.
Aww thanks so much 🥰🥰🥰 we don’t usually do a lot of food videos, but martabak was too good not to! 😍❤️
Indonesians usually eat martabak with their hands... it's become a tradition ❤
We started that way!! But then we were loosing all the toppings so the fork helped lol ❤️
So excited to enjoy Indonesian street food. Martabak Is one of the delicious food. I love it so much. Hopely you are too. You can go every where and enjoy Indonesian food.
I love martabak! 😍
Wow.. so interesting.. waiting more video about your experience in the beautiful Indonesia..
Thank you❤️❤️❤️
😱😱😱 so many different types of food!!!
Selamat menikmati guys😊
Thank you! ❤️
Usually, 1 portion of martabak is for 5-6 people..
You guys can eat it with just 2 person..
It's a lot and too sweet..
I prefer the savoury one, because I love eggs..
It was definitely way too much for just the 2 of us to eat! 😱 but it was so good! 😍
If you looking something veggie I recommend you Gado-gado, it was like salad with water spinach, tofu, tempe, boiled carrot, boiled potato, lontong (rice cake), all of those with peanut sauce
Sounds like my favorite thing ever! 😍
@@NataliesPassport I am sure you must be like them, there also tomato and some boiled cabbage in it, also there is boiled egg, you can order without boiled egg if it is not suit with you 😁, Gado-gado is really delicious
People Indonesia love your chanel thnk u came to Indonesia.
Thanks so much 🥰🥰
I'm waiting for you guys in Bali.
You should learn formal vocabulary in Indonesia. Because different provinces will use different languages, if you use the Jakarta slank. You will find it difficult to understand the Balinese accent etc. (Actually, you can just speak English😂)
We only use standard Indonesian in formal/public places. If with family or friends we speak in our own language
Thank you 🥰🥰 we should be in Bali by the end of the month! That’s good to know about how different the language is everywhere ❤️
Biasanya makanan Indonesia cocok untuk bule seperti kalian
We have tried so much good food here! 😍
Love martabak manis 😍😍
It's so so good! 😍
Just enjoy the foods and the hospitality of the people everytime they meet you.
Keep up your spirit to explore Indonesia. 😊
Thank you 🥰🥰
enjoy your trip and food in indonesia,...
Thanks so much! 🥰
if you eat martabak manis don't ever counting the calories but remember the memories ... 😂
🤣🤣 I think that’s good advice! Lol ❤️
It's better for you to eat Martabak just a little, because the calories are very high
We thought it was for 2 people so we tried to eat as much as we could 🤣 but we couldn’t finish it 🥺🤣❤️
We used to share it with the whole family, not just two people 😂
🤣 it was way too much for us! But it was so good 🥰🥰
Hello nat and Charles... Welcome to Indonesia.. I hope u enjoy ur time in Indonesia.. 😉

Have you tried eating egg crust?
@@SiDika_Aja_Dah not yet! we'll have to try it!
Martabak is my favorite food😆
It’s so good! 😍
Ada banyak jenis bakso. Saya pikir yang kalian makan ini adalah Bakso Malang. Malang adalah nama kota di Jawa Timur.
We have no idea which ones they were 😬 although I was disappointed it didn’t come with noodles! (That’s the part I was going to eat 🥰) 🤣
@@NataliesPassport that is the point. Bakso Malang lebih menonjolkan bakso/meatball, tahu/tofu, pangsit goreng/fried dumpling dan dim sum, tanpa memakai noodle. Kalau pun ada, hanya memakai sedikit sekali
Martabak🤤
So good! 😍😍😍
Bertahan d Indonesia ,, 2 bulan pastih 100k subscribe
