been working in a shop for a year or so but finally got around to trying my hand at drum brakes for the second time. this video made it a cakewalk compared to the first! still took some time, but a lot less confusion on how to take things apart and put it together since you show everything. really appreciate it!
Thank you for watching our auto repair video that shows you how to replace the rear brake shoes on a Ford Ranger.
You're calm demeanor throughout this brake job has pushed me to attempt it.
I've done quite a few front brake jobs for my own cars, they all guaranteed a lot of swearing, and usually end with
"I fkn hate cars", even when it goes smooth.
You were pretty collected. I'll try it.
It's going to suck though.
Thanks! 😅

Are they the 10 inch or the 9s on that 4x4 Ford ranger

@@HomeOwnerRepair it's done I'm in.
My special tool of choice on drum bakes = large vice grips ,also includes whapped knuckles too, just a bonus, your welcome.
Thank you for the added tip! Have a great day!
Got a question for ya. Green and yellow springs only want to hook the top stud from the bottom and not over the top. Tried for 2 hrs in hot sun and there is no way to get these over the top of the stud without twisting the spring. Do I just put it on like this or do I have bad springs?
Great video! However the camera angles and zoom need some work. Most of the video was quite far out which made it hard to see some things. I was able to figure it out so despite that, the video helped a lot!
Thanks for the tips!
This guy is a pro!

I spent hours on replacing my drums last night and after I got everything together my drum wouldn’t slip on. The adjuster is as short as I can go, everything fits tight, and i nearly wanted to push my truck off a cliff. I did get new brake cylinders and they push the pins out pretty far compared to the older ones. Any advice? I need this thing ready for winter 🫠
You may want to make sure the brake shoes are seated correctly.
@@HomeOwnerRepair If it's only one side you put the two bigger shoes on same side . The two shoes at are a little bit different in size on each side . I done that about 30 yrs ago in a hurry on a 92 ranger didnt realize it till I went to put last drum on
Good job

Thank you, great video

Has anyone had an issue after replacing the shoes and the drums where your brakes start to pulsate? I’m having some bad shaking and can determine if the E brake needs to be adjusted for if I might have a warped drum from the factory.
It the shaking in the steering wheel or brake pedal?
@@HomeOwnerRepairit feels like it’s mostly in the brakes but i felt a small amount in the steering wheel at some point. I did have it checked out and I guess there was an issue with the wheel cylinder.
I thought it ll be more easy from the brakes pads

How do I find the size I need for my truck
If you go to your local parts store and give them the year, make and model of your truck they can pull the correct size brake shoes for you.
Back up and show how to get the damn brake drum loose. You left out the hard part.
Loosen the tension on the adjusting screw (back side of drum). This will relieve the pressure of the brake pads against the brake drum and should make it easier for you to remove the brake drum. Hope this helps you out.
That little friggn clip. That little clip can go to hell.. maybe my crap was just bent but i had on 2 sets of vice grips, and still had a hell of a time getting that damn clip to. Grab aholt….
It's a pain..lol
2 minutes in you losted me , to many steps , to many little parts
A trick is to do one side at a time so you can refer to the other side of the car to see how the brakes go back together. Hope this helps you out!
2 steps in? Maybe you should take your vehicle to a mechanic......just sayin 🤷♂️
Everyone shows only right side, what a bumer
Left side is the same way
to much work
It's not that bad of a job. Thanks for checking us out.
then you need to get an auto mechanic involved.
