#gravelbike #cycling #canyon I took my Canyon Grizl CF SL 7 for a spin on a traill I usually only go to with my mountain bike. On the most Comfortable Gravel Bike.
New bike day in two days! 🎉 Love the video and want to push my Grizl the same way. It was really great to see/hear your overall experience beforehand. Thank you for sharing!
I can't believe the song on the beggining of the video was a song I found on spotify with only 60,000 views, that song definetly need some more attention, really cool and funny video 🤯
Thanks! It’s all new territory for me! I really enjoy it though and I was unsure it can take such a good beating! I’m worried about breaking something or cracking the carbon… will it survive ha?
The wide handlebar advantage is a myth IMO, for single tracks like you rode. Might be an advantage for downhill races, but surely not for this type of riding.
I ride small handlebars on my MTB, at least that is what people would call them. A bit over shoulder width is fine IMO, but not too much -- for that type of tracks you showed.@@TheHealthyTeacher
I have ones with a back sweep from Syntace (VRO). I am not sure if I have the current 12 degree sweep or an older version with even 16 degrees. I think the latter. If I would buy the VRO VECTOR LOWRIDER 25.4, 12° today I would cut it to a length which feels comfortable or look for bars with a bit more backsweep indeed.@@TheHealthyTeacher
Thx!!!! I come from a flexy old Cyclcross and a MTB and want to buy the Grizl but now I think if it is offroad enough for me...maybe a CX is better!?..I am not so sure after your video. What do you think? Cheers..
I think it is more off-road than a CX bike, or do you mean an XC mountain bike? A CX Cyclocross bike usually has less space for thicket tyres so the Grizl is definitely more adaptable for off road use :). It is amazing, get it and don't regret it! Buy once, Cry once ;)
@@TheHealthyTeacher No, thats not so in general..my Cyclcrossbike fits up to 48mm tyres and the tob tube is short and bottom bracket is also higher in general (all CX bikes), which should makes it easies to ride in corners and jump over it. Long distance and long bikes are better with Gravel I think. I am actually between the Giant TCX Advanced Pro and the Grizl. XC MTB is something different and I am very happy with my GT Zaskar :-) I think I will sleep a night over it :-)...thx!!
@@SvenfromKiel Ah yah? I've learnt something new form you today then, thanks!! MY Grizl can fit up to 50mm I think but yeah the bottom bracket I imagine is lower, which would be better for longer distance. There are so many bikes with slight differences it is crazy, ha!
@@TheHealthyTeacher Yeahh ..true and absolutely crazy but your trailride and the bumps helped me a lot to think about, what I need... 🙂 Thanks a lot...Main problem is to get a testride here. Giant dealer are rare and TCX not available but Canyon is possible. Another problem is the size.. I am 1,83 and 87 inseam and struggling between M and L with the Grizl.
Ah, thank you for this I was a little bit perplexed as it did seem to be happening way too often! a 20mm doesn't seem huge but I guess with the longer gravel cranks that all makes sense.
@@TheHealthyTeacher, you have also mentioned that your mountain bike wheels are smaller. 26'' could negate that 20mm difference; 27,5'' and 29'' could add to bottom bracket clearance because of the size of the tyre.
Good video and totally agree with the fun factor and the agility without the nervous bike feel of road bikes. I also have the cf sl 7. Btw. why did you replace the split seatpost? it can make noises after some time, but boy is it comfortable. I also have problems with toe overlap on this bike, but you kinda learn to live with it. Love the bike and if it had no toe overlap it would be my dream bike :) I dont think mountain bike cranks are shorter, the BB could be higher up (what would be unusual) or what I rather think is that you are more used to not pedal with the MTB while descending keeping the pedals level. Some MTBs may come with shorter cranks. Also MTB tires are not only wider but also "taller", so that helps with ground clearance. Yet in general I thought the lower the BB the better the control and feel, thats why MTB BBs are usually lower.
Btw. I have no idea if what I said is true, I just know that race bikes usually have a really high BB for ground clearance, thats why you see the racers (Tour de France etc.) pedal through every corner. This makes you also more aero, because it places you on top of the bike, making the position more aggressive. With MTBs it is just a guess :)
Hi! I didn't replace the split post. I never got one, haha! Maybe because I got the bike from an outlet and it is the older model? My MTB crank is definitely shorter but maybe it is a specific type of hardtail. Yeah you explain it well regarding descending. I still love my MTB too though and I should learn to ride it to do proper jumps!
@@TheHealthyTeacher I think the other comment concerning BB drop warps it up perfectly. You could try experimenting with shorter cranks. But be aware that you have to raise your saddle by the same amount. So 175mm -> 165mm crank, raise the saddle by 1cm. So in the end it could be too aggressive for your liking. Also to consider that your feet are closer together when in stance position possibly making the control of the bike more nervous. MTBs have wider stance which helps with control. Hope you will enjoy your GRIZL as much as I do :) Btw. where are you from?
Cool video, but I gotta say you're a little conservative on this gravel bike. If you have 40mm tires, and a decent cassette, you have both the torque and the traction to get over almost all of the obstacles that you show in the video. There were a couple logs that you can hop, but that is a skill you can learn. These trails are standard mixed-terrain routes... I guess, I don't worry about going fast on my gravel bike, though.
Agreed! I used to ride these kinds of MTB trails in the Netherlands on a cross bike. And definitely, when you're severely underbiked you don't need to go fast to have fun :)

New Bike Day is always the best day ;). You're very welcome| I did a 110km ride the other day and it was amazing!
WE CAN DANCE IF WE WANT TO, WE'VE GOT ALL YOUR LIFE AND MINE. AS LONG AS WE ABUSE IT, NEVA GONNA LOSE IT!
Would this bike serve as a combined gravel and audax bike (in 2x set-up)?
@@paule4 yeah it has 2x gearing so I don’t see why not :). You’d probably want some slicker tyres maybe.
I dont know why, everytime i listen to this bike on rough terrain it just sounds so good
That’s coz it is!
You should’ve got the front suspension from Canyon
I've got a hardtail :). The front suspension on Canyon is nice but I didn't really fancy it as this was just a experiment to be honest.
I can't believe the song on the beggining of the video was a song I found on spotify with only 60,000 views, that song definetly need some more attention, really cool and funny video 🤯
It's not much different than a paved road, partially even a much better surface than on the road.
Haha to be honest I have seen some bad roads! It was quite rocky and rooty at parts and going downhill was maybe worse than it looked.
I really am curious how the Grizl with the 30mm front suspension would be. I’d purchase that but you can’t lock it out which is a bummer
Hmm at this point I’d go for an xc mtb
Wondering how the version with the 30mm travel in the Rudy-fork would fare in this kind of ride.
Not sure, I feel that a suspension fork on a gravel is very close to a hardtail mtb with drop bars, which is cool too!
@@TheHealthyTeacher True, although 30 vs 100mm is quite a difference...
Most important thing is to have fun riding :).
@@PatJuhNL You are 100% correct!
I do this all the time haha. This bike is meant for this . Take it over boulders, nasty roots. Everything but jumps I guess. This bike is great

Yay! Keep the videos up!🎉
I will try!
