    5 minutes in. I'm sure that starter was hot enough to ignite the fuel by now.

    whether it's 700hp or not, the fact remains that the 7.3 is probably the most reliable diesel engine to ever be put in a pickup truck. My dad has a 97 that's had a really tough life towing. It finally bent a push rod at 444,500 miles. It was the first time we took the valve covers off. I wish I could say the same for my 12 valve Cummins. I'd rather tow with my Cummins because it's a beast compared to the old 7.3. If I had to count on any diesel in any pickup truck to save my life, it would be the 7.3 Power Stroke.

    we had an old 7.3 on the farm that started like this we added a in-line heater to the lower radiator hose and kept it plugged in with the block heater, that helped a lot plus we put the red top optima batteries in the old girl for more cranking power

    damn you got some good healthy batteries and a damn good starter ,,,
    by the time you got to 2 min in the video I was wondering if it was gonna start or not
    reminds me of my 1977 chevy that's had a detroit diesel conversion , it's got a 6V-71 turbo
    and when starting in under 32F weather it needs either a cord plug in for about 15 mins
    or a 3 sec shot of Ether , and then crank it till it lights , keep on grinding till it lights cause they have no Glo Plugs

    I'm at around 450-500 HP in my 96 quad cab dually, 7.3 psd. good glow plugs don't help a great amount, if he's running 700 HP then he's got an electric fuel pump conversion as well like I do. those not familiar, that means no fuel bowl in the valley, the original fuel bowl has a heating element in it to pre heat the fuel when cold, the electric pump set up does not, and these 7.3 psds don't like cold fuel for start up.

    • @Wolvespiritt
      @Wolvespiritt 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      493 if you want me to be exact, but that was close to 100,000 miles ago , so I'm assuming I've probably lost etleast a few HP from wear.So, just to be safe, I say 450-500. Leaves room for error since I haven't had it on a dyno in a few years.

    ok this should be titled, "dual 700cca batteries start my 260hp straight piped diesel after 5 and a half minutes of cranking it". if this thing made 700hp on the dyno than that would explain it not starting it left everything it had on that dyno run. this makes a better battery video than truck video. let's see those batteries!!

    good job man. you just put 20k miles of engine wear in 7 minutes. also GREAT idea flooring it when the oil hasnt even circled the engine yet. the scores on the walls must be 10 thou deep at least

    • @jongglerdaring8260
      @jongglerdaring8260 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol well if he could somehow have less fuel at the initial start only and a hotter glow plug it would start up just fine . There is pros and cons to both slow and fast rev starts. To slow n the crankshaft can become stressed along with less heat to expand fast rev starts heat the engine up faster due to more friction from pistons and circulate more fluids to places they need to get to with more pressure but metal dosent like to run cold.. So go fuck off and find the sweet spot of starting .

    damn my stock 7.3 with new glow plugs and upgraded turbo starts better than that in -15 in Minnesota without being plugged in. i cycle the glow plugs once and its running in like 30 seconds not over 5 minutes like in this video
