    Great instructions. I like it that you're not video game fishing. Keep up the great videos

      I use my graph to get a general idea of water depth. Reading the water visually and how it is flowing is the best way to find fish on a river.

    Smart man right here! I used to be the type who would jig way too aggressively. This method works.

      @@AnglerX Absolutely! I typically bank fish in the spring because I didn't really know where or how to fish until after the spawn into the summer transition in June. I've been powering through a ton of your videos over the last few years about spring fishing and I have the confidence to hit some wing dams and lake Onalaska.
      Also, I saw you fished Genoa for the first time a few weeks ago. I fish down that way a bit and hopping those wing dams south is usually pretty good.

    As always enjoyed and learned. Appreciate as others have said the jigging technique. Never having fished wing dams I greatly appreciate the advice on boat positions, moving along the individual dams and moving in-between dams looking for 1 holding fish. THANK YOU, TIGHT LINES

    • @AnglerX
      @AnglerX  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Moving between wing dams is very important. You can catch fish on a wing dam one day and the next you may catch nothing. A different dam may be holding fish that wasn’t the day before.

    Nice as always Lance I am going to be doing this Sunday as MY Electric Trolling motor bracket broke so I think I can do this by Anchoring Like I use to in years past before I had a electric motor. I too have had excellent success with Purple and a Chartreuse tail, I have also had outstanding luck with Blue Ice color. TC

    • @AnglerX
      @AnglerX  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes the anchor works and works well. Too bad the fishing was slow only 8 fish and 1. 16inch Walleye today. I did have a Sauger 14 inch but even though I don’t have to I like them close to 15 inch. My PB Sauger is 5lb out of the Missouri River. TC. Lance

    Another video with awesome informative content. You are one of the best to watch to learn from. Thanks again. When it is windy do you up the jig weight or just stay the same and kind of do the best you can to see or feel the bite? Probably make shorter cast to limit the line bow and have better feel? As I am older my shoulder can only do so much casting before I am miserable and I have a hard time holding the rod as steady as I should. Thanks again for all the informative videos you share.

    • @AnglerX
      @AnglerX  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Using a slightly heavier bait can help when it’s windy. Using a blade bait or something similar can help also because it can be fished a bit more aggressively. Shorter cast and keeping the rod tip close to the water will shorten the amount of line exposed line to the wind. Also using a braid with a smaller diameter can reduce wind friction.

    Are there some places by the dams you can shore fish? I don't trust my boat motor that far down the river.

    • @AnglerX
      @AnglerX  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Some of the dams have areas that you can shore fish. Below dam 5a and dam 7 are a couple that I know of.

  • @hunter4954

    Master of the Mississippi! Thanks for a great ed. video. Question: how much time do you spend fishing a wingdam if you don't get a hit? Also, is there a particular wingdam structure that you like?

    • @AnglerX
      @AnglerX  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on the length of the wing dam but 15-25 min and it f I don’t get hit I’ll keep moving. I find that the fish will generally hit in one of the first few cast if they are present and hungry. Wing dams that are 10-12 feet above the wing dam about half way out have been good this year. The deeper ends hold fish during the day and fish push in shallower during low light periods.

    Are wing dams shown on any type of navigation maps. I know you live in the area, I'm a kayak angler and don't have the ability to cover territory like a power boat to find the wing dams. Thanks brother

    • @AnglerX
      @AnglerX  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The US Corp of Engineers has Mississippi River navigation maps available online. They show roughly where all the wing dams are. Also Navionics boating app shows them.

    What key characteristics are you considering when trying to decide which wing dams are most likely to hold walleyes?

    • @AnglerX
      @AnglerX  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m really trying to hit as many as I can that have decent depth directly up stream. 10-12 feet of water about half way out on the up stream side has been a good depth.
