We started Saxon Math this year and we are in love with it. I put it away for two years for fear of it but I regret it now. We use the DIVE online lessons along with the book. The teacher is amazing and encouraging. It’s challenging and uses an spiral approach. Thank you for sharing!🌸

I love hearing that!! I think it's so wonderful that there are online lessons to use along with the book. That would be so helpful! I find the spiral approach works best for our family as well.

Thank you Karla for all of your videos! Great name by the way! :) I'm so glad I stumbled upon your channel. I believe this program would be perfect for my son. We've been using Khan Academy bc its free but he hates the instructional videos, and gets discouraged easily. I'm thinking this might make math a bit less intimidating and fun.

Thank you! Love your name too! ;) I hope it works well for you as it has been what we have been using for many years now and we still love it. I love having such a core subject something that they can do independently most the time too!

Hi Karla. I have been thinking of switching my grade 5 to TT next year. She is currently doing Lifepac math which is awesome, but I would like her to shift into more independent work. I’ve noticed many reviews recommending we go up a grade level. I’d like her to be ready for pre algebra with Mr. D math (which is amazing BTW) by grade 7. Would you say TT is a little below average grade level in comparison to other curriculums?

This is honestly a tricky question! I feel lots of other math programs are way above grade level, such as Abeka and Singapore. They try to cram a LOT in when I feel like it's more than most kids are ready for. I feel like Teaching Textbooks is pretty much on grade level, but what your child is ready for will depend on what they have already learned in their current program. My kids are all about 1/2 a grade ahead in TT, and that has worked for us. My son is currently in grade 5, and is working on the first half of the grade 6 book. You can do a free trial of their online program, and I would dig in and see what skills are introduced later in the book as they always start off pretty easy and then get harder. If you do the online option, you also have 90 to switch to a different level if the one you are on isn't working. Also, just call TT as they have good customer support, say what your child currently knows, and they will help match you up to the right level.

@@karlacanon2507 oh that is very helpful. I’ll be sure to trial, and knowing we can switch grade level is great! I don’t want to set my daughter up for failure 🤪. Thank you once again:)

is it a super spiral style like saxon math ? where the first lesson is addition and the second one is measuring in inches and the 3rd lesson is word problems ?

Yes, is a spiral like Saxon, which is one of the things we really like! I wouldn't say the pattern of questions is quite as predictable as Saxon, but yes, the general idea is the same. Often I won't have my children do all the questions of concepts they are reviewing if they are confident in that area.
